What to do about line jumpers?

There's nothing I hate more than waiting in a long line, only to have the store open their doors and then the people who don't want to wait in line like everyone else in the cold weather, jumping out of their warm cars and running through the doors! What does anyone else do in that case? The people waiting in line yell at them to get at the end of the line, but they just keep going on in, grabbing up everything before we can get it. That's the worst part of BF!

at the local walmart here we dont have to move any carts. the store manager has his employee set up shopping carts at the front of the store and run rope down around the side of the building for lining up. he also has the local police department there at 3 am along with walmart security to make sure there is no pushing, jumping, or whatever going on outside. now this would all be great again IF walmart would let the ad out already

Last year when I was at BB, we had some tough looking folks who weren't going to tolerate any of it. Some jokers tried it, but weren't up to the challenge and went to the end of the line. I suppose if they had been a little more crazy or bigger they may have gone for it, so this may not always work out.

Our TRU is awful, the manager says he can't do anything and it usually gets kind of nasty. But Target here is great. They have police out and ropes part way down the line to keep line jumpers from running stratight in. Last year this older lady came running up and tried to tell the policeman she was handicapped and couldn't wait with the rest of us and he had to let her in....he laughed at her and we all cheered! Imagine running up and claiming handicap status!

People in line at the stores Ive been at have been pretty nice and when some people do try to jump in line everyone crowds close so that they can't. Last year at Kmart we had a few that tried that, though they tried to say they were just there to look at the flyer. Its really annoying when your waiting in line for hrs and people try that crap.

I posted this on another thread, but it was so funny I had to share....a couple of years ago, everyone in line collectively agreed to let a handicapped man in a wheelchair to the front so he could get in the doors safely....when the doors opened, he left his wheelchair blocking the doors and got up and ran. :) Some people will do anything for a deal...

I'm sorry, but if I saw somebody do that on BF in my line, he'd be needing that wheelchair before I left the store! :D

Some stores here have a "plan" either police or extra workers outside to monitor. Last year at walmart a woman called in police to report a line jumper, pretty funny especially since they showed up! My neice in law and I go every year and it seems like we always meet newbies and take them under wing cause they don't have a clue. Again, last year we met two sisters who have never been out on BF, when the doors opened we each took one by the arm or whatever we could grab and helped them in the door to their items, they would have never made it because as time was ticking to opening the crowd got tight so that no one could push or jump line!

:eyepoppin:cheesy:

I guess there is two types of line jumpers. The ones that share the responsibility of keeping their place in line...basically taking turns holding the place...and the others that wait in their cars and try to jump in just before the doors open. We tolorate the first ones...after all everybody has to pee sometime. The others don't get in...like someone else said...get to know the people around you...strength in numbers!

Maybe it was one of these threads, probably the closed one. ;)

I get a no results error when I click on that link. Do you have another? I'd be really curious to read this!

In response to the OP, I dont have any other ideas other than what has already been posted. I think most people have no patience for line jumpers, so someone will surely speak up and inform others or the right people. Unfortunately it usually depends on how much the management wants to get involved as to whether anything will be done or not

I enjoyed watching a group of 6 or 7 guys get beat up last year at the Chicagoland Frys when they tried this. They had been hanging around the entrance for about 30 minutes, and when the doors finally opened some of the folks decided that beating these jokers up would be more fun than going into the store they'd been waiting to enter for 2 days :D

When I came out of the store after 20 minutes the guys were still in the corner crying.

My wife is in a wheelchair and we still brave the lines. They'll even try and trample her if they get the chance. I try and draw attention to line jumpers with the store manager (who's usually at the front door). That's also depending on when I get there. Now that people are willing to camp out for 2 days, I generally am too far back to even worry about line jumpers.

Actually three types. The third one is the ones who has a family member or friends, perhaps just someone they paid, to save them a place in line. It would be somewhat tolerable if they replaced the person who was holding the spot, but instead they get in line with the person holding the spot. Sometimes it could be 2 or 3 people who show up and get in line because someone will let them.\

As far as what you can do? Nothing really, other than yell at them and call them names. If you want to get physical with them you can start a fight, but not many people really want to do that, despite what some would say. Besides, you start a fight and you could go to jail, or the person can sue you for hurting them. The best part is some stores will call out the police before hand in anticipation of these types of problems. Last year at our Best Buy they had 3 or 4 cop cars cruising up and down the line looking for problems. While they were doing this they were announcing over their PA system that everyone needs to remain civil, and they would arrest anyone causing problems.
