asilenceblossom Posted December 26, 2006 Share Posted December 26, 2006 Today, it was just my husband, dog and me. We ate breakfast and took a nap in the afternoon. We filed some paperwork and paid a bill. We watched a lot of tv ...and I spent a few bucks doing online shopping this evening. My siblings visited earlier in the week and it was CRAZY during that time, so I guess that relaxing today was nice...we tried to order Chinese food, but the local Chinese restaurants were closed...I suppose we could have gone to the movie theatre but I didn't want to blow 20 bucks on that. I kind of feel bad for my husband that I have so few relatives and friends that my husband and I had nothing to do today...he even fibbed to one of his friends in another state and said that we were in bed in the afternoon because we had the flu ...did anyone else have an uneventful Christmas? This year, everything went right, and I floored my stuck-up family that set a $5 limit, by giving VERY expensive gifts, due to GD. Disney trikes for all the kids ($7), and free new release CD's for the rest. Dollar Tree lotion for the one I can't stand, LOL!!! We always have a slow paced Christmas even though we have five kids. We stopped the madness years ago. For us, it just wasn't worth rushing everyone so that we made it everywhere. Families change and we've all adjusted. We don't leave home until 12:30, and that's just for a short drive to the il's for dinner there. Our kids are 24 (he's married, so dil too), 19, 18, 13, and 6. fairydustcrissy Posted December 26, 2006 Share Posted December 26, 2006 We did, and I LOVED it! Hubby and I talked last night, and we both feel it was our best Christmas ever. We did the big dinner with my family on Christmas eve, so yesterday was very slow paced as well. The kids got up, did the Santa thing, and we all exchanged gifts. From then on, we just chilled out. I made a turkey and some mac & cheese for dinner, and my dad & hubby's brother ended up dropping by. We stayed in our PJs all day long! Christmas used to be insane for us, 4 dinners in 2 days, with 3 kids in tow. But everyone really had a good time this year. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Kayakmom Posted December 26, 2006 Share Posted December 26, 2006 We opted for the slow-paced, stay at home Christmas this year for the first time and we loved it! While it's nice to see family, it's really nice to have time to stay and enjoy your own family. I made lasagna on Saturday night and just had to heat it up and bake a pie from the orchard (gift). It was soooo nice! We got up about 5:45am and took our time to do presents for a couple of hours. My 10 year old came back from his dad's at 10am and had plenty of time to open his stuff and enjoy it. Normally he comes in and has to be rushed out to a dinner. He really enjoyed the time to play with his PSP from his dad's and his laptop here. My hubby says that he's going to be just like me now. He had that laptop open and in front of his face almost the entire day, lol. My 5 year old loved having the time to play with all of his new toys. In fact, he still didn't even open his Roboreptile yet, but we'll probably get to that today. I think we are going to make it a tradition to stay home. My mom lives 1200 miles away but we talked to her a few times on the phone throughout the day and hubby's mom is a nurse and had to work but called in the morning. Although we are all developing a cold, I wouldn't say that's why we were lounging around all afternoon. I'd say we were enjoying the rare opportunity to just hang out together that we seldom get any more. Hubby is absolutely loving the 4 days off. Illinoismom Posted December 26, 2006 Share Posted December 26, 2006 My family lives 1200 miles away in Florida, My inlaws went to texas, So our big night is Christmas eve when my husbands family comes over. But since they are in Texas his sister choosed not to come over. So it was just the six of us and the neighbors. We ate, exchanged a few presents the kids went to bed We adults played Scene it and then Santa Came, Went to bed about 1:00am, I got up at 3:00am did some dishes, made coffee. then went backed layed down. Kids got up about 7:00 am we all them got up, Put breakfest in the oven, opened presents, ate breakfest, kids played, I download music I got, Played with the kids, Had left overs from Christmas eve which is a tradition,. so we too love the layed back feeling and never leaving the house. My BIL and nephew ended up spending the night at our house Christmas Eve (long story) anyway we got up about 7. About 11 when my nephew finally got up he took them home. Later in the evening my bil and his daughter and her kids and hubby came over but it was very laid back. It was really nice. Gator Pam Posted December 26, 2006 Share Posted December 26, 2006 Our's was very low key, as we haven't celebrated it (yet). FIL arrives around 2:00 pm today, and we'll do 'Chr-stmas' Eve tonight. He works graveyard shift, and would have just gotten off work at 8:00 am. Even though he's taking a nap before he heads up here, I didn't want to throw opening gifts on him when he arrives after a four hour drive. Open gifts and stockings I make christmas breakfast. Get ready and go to my parents house Exchange gifts Eat christmas dinner Come home and put all the toys and gifts away and open what they want to play with then Get pjs on and RELAX. Swampbaby Posted December 26, 2006 Share Posted December 26, 2006 Quiet time for us. DS, age 16 didn't even get up until I woke him at 8:30. By then the breakfast casserole was in the oven and I had already downed my first Diet Coke. Then we opened presents, called relatives (who all live out of state) and plain chilled out. DS had built me a pantry between the studs, completely finished off inside and out and during the evening I put things in place. Went to father in laws for cinnamon rolls, came back and had our Christmas, mother in law came over and played games. Then off to my parents for supper. It wasn't bad at all. But the 3 DS's had me going since 5:30am with opening things, putting things together, cleaning up boxes/wrapping paper, cooking dinner, baking a pie, cleaning up, etc. I literally crashed and burned by 8pm. bayhaysay Posted December 27, 2006 Share Posted December 27, 2006 Ours really wasn't too bad. In years past we have loaded up the kids and driven either an hour or 2 to one of my grandparents houses. Not this year. We decided we weren't going to leave town anymore on Christmas day. We went to 4 different places on Christmas Day but they were all within 6 miles of each other and spread out throughout the day. It was good.
