My dh ruined his gift. Now, MINE's ruined!!!

I'm glad it wasn't a main gift, but my dh ruined one of his already.

We have always watched "24" on DVD from Netflix. We had cancelled though, due to lack of activity/waste of money. Anyhow, I found it on sale at Walmart.com awhile back, and used a gift card I had a remaining balance with and ordered it. Anyhow, this year his work schedule will allow him to watch the new season on TV, so he wanted this past season that I happened to order him. He tells me to renew the Netflix and make sure 24 is still on our list. I told him I would do it on the 15th, as that is when it's coming out (a tad bit of a lie). Then, I was planning on telling him I forgot to do it (as we're leaving town on the 19th). Anyhow, he goes and renews our Netflix account from work. Since it was always in my name, I find out with an email welcoming us back--and showing our next 3 rentals as "24". I called him up and gave him heck and told him he just ruined a Christmas present... I didn't know how else to avoid it. I knew Netflix wouldn't let us cancel right away.

Has anything like this happened to anyone else? I'm bummed because I had to work hard to figure out things he wouldn't expect, and now one is blown.

Sorry to hear about that! He should know better than to do something like that this time of year! I brought home a PS3 thinking I would give it to my oldest, but dh had other plans, so he got his Christmas gift early, so no need to worry about him messing it up. I was really surprised he got so excited over a game system. :)

i'm afraid my bf is going to see a wii magically in stock somewhere and run out and buy it.

Steal his wallet and hide it. Then he has no money to buy it.

My Mommy told me I wasn't allowed to buy myself any more toys because she doesn't want to buy me something I just bought.

dh did this one year. I told him he'd ruined his present and was getting nothing. Made him wait till Xmas morning when one appeared at his dads house.

We have a deal in the house, no buying yourself things from NoV25-Xmas.

DH only thinks he ruined his gift, LOL! Somehow he came up with the idea of a gun cabinet. (he only has 2 guns left, and they are already in one) So I pretended to get really upset and tell him that he always ruins his gifts. He has even rearranged the furniture to fit his 'gun cabinet'. Funny thing is, that his gift is a BBQ grill and a new Matthews Bow! Even when I tried to tell him it wasn't a gun cabinet, he thought I was lying.

That stinks. :(

My dh did a similar thing for Father's Day. He went out and bought himself the Band of Brothers DVD set while I was bidding on one on ebay. Luckily, I got outbid at the last minute, so we didn't end up with 2. But I was so irritated about it.

My dh never buys himself anything! He can't even find the stores in town except Home Depot and Walmart, and we've lived here 2 years. I still think he knew and did it on purpose. He's used my eBay account to bid on stuff before and then when I see the winning notice from eBay in my inbox and ask him, he's like "Oh yeah, pay for that, please."

I actually have been the guilty party in a situation like this. I called my mom to tell her that I had just bought the movie Curious George and she told me that I had ruined one of my presents so she would just have to return in and then she told me to not buy Over the Hedge, so I know that I am getting that for Christmas. I felt so bad, I didn't mean to do it, but I just needed an easy viewing movie to watch after finals.

My husband already got one of his gifts. I bought him a pair of new FUBU athletic shoes. I had them hidden and yesterday he said he has to go out to buy a new pair of shoes because his old ones had a tear in the bottoms. He actually had his jacket on, so the smart butt I am went to the tree and pulled out the one box. I told him "Merry Christmas". lol.

I think it'll actually work out nicely, as my parents also enjoy 24, but don't get to watch all the time either. Since he'll have the set, I think we'll burn it for them and give them that along with their other gifts so they can watch in their own time too.

Well, now my gift is ruined. My dh got me a commercial juicer, and it came yesterday in the box with it's picture all over it. Of course, I was the one home. I guess there will be no surprises this year... I absolutely love it, just wish I didn't know what it was already. ;)

The gift I have under the tree for my dh is driving him crazy, he keeps calling me from his cell phone with all kinds of guesses lol, I've told him that I'm not going to tell him one way or another. so now he is convinced that I got him a blue-rock thrower, he says the box is the right size and shape, evidently he thinks that is the only thing possible that could be in that box lol, so I'm letting him think that, I just hope he isn't dissapointed when it's not!

That's funny how we can convince ourselves of something. When I was little, I wanted this playset and it was /-\ <---that shape. There was something that shape under the tree for me and I just knew it was the playset. Ended up it was a lampshade... As a child, I must admit I was disappointed about a lampshade. Now, I don't care what it is, I'd just rather not know at all what it is until I open it. ;)

My BF was going to go out and get a drill last weekend because he needed it. I had to tell him that he might be getting one for Christmas and not to get one. He wanted to know who "might" be getting him one and I wouldn't tell him - it was his stepmom. Then she found out he was going to buy one from his daugter, so she went ahead and gave it to him. I am sure she is going to go get something else for him to open on Christmas now even though he said she doesn't need to. :holiday16

I narrowly averted this same situation! I ordered DH the Magic Bullet from Kohls....it was delievered in it's regular box...The ups man left it by the door, I was not home, As I pull up I see it, run oout of the car and grab it as DH is opening front door. to which I yelled " Close the damn door, There's "christmas business" out here!!!" (He knows what that means!)

Narrowly averted disaster, as that is the ONLY thing he wanted!

I am SOOOOO glas you guys have all posted to this thread. I just didn't think of my son's gift possibly shipping in it's retail packaging. I will have to watch the tracking e-mails to make sure to get home before him the day it comes. Alex is only getting one gift and he has NO idea what it is (LEGO Mindstorms NXT.)
