BB Horror Story

Just came back from BB. Wanted to get the Toshiba laptop but I was like #250 in line for arriving at 4 a.m. They only had 25 Toshibas and the good thing is they started passing out coupons at 4:30. Of course there was no way in hell for me to get a coupon and that was the only thing I wanted. So I headed home and picked up some KBToys games on the way back. It was freezing cold (32 degrees plus wind chill) and I could see my breath. Before I left BB I asked those at the front of the line when they came and get a load of this: 7 p.m. yesterday!!! I can't imagine standing in this weather for 12 hours or more even if I'm buying the whole store, let alone a lousy laptop!

I wonder if they went in shifts though (are you ALLOWED to do that on BF? :D) you know, like one person stand in line while the others sleep/stay warm in the car and then change out every hour or so.....

At least you weren't mislead into thinking that you were going to get the laptop and stayed in line for longer you know?

I just got back from shopping. I decided to got to Toys R Us first. I arrived at 3:30am and I was about 8th in line (opened at 5am). Right across the street is Best Buy and I checked out the line before turning right into TRU. Needless to say at 3:30am (Im in Ohio) I could not even see the end of the line. It wrapped around the store. To what point I have no idea but I was shocked! Thank god I didnt need anything there!

No, no tent at my BB, but there were people with stools or collapseable lawn chairs. Yeah, some of them do go in shifts. I saw many cars with engine on and I'm sure the people inside are not there just for moral support or a free BF suffering show. I don't think I'm going to BB again next year.

I got to to BB at 0400 and I was about 200 in line. Waited there for 45 minutes and found out the laptops were sold out. Proceeded to CC and was number 50 in line. I waited about 30 minutes and found out they were sold out of laptops as well. THen drove to OD. I got there at 0530 and was tenth in line. I finally got the laptop.

We went to Best Buy this morning. We only wanted the U2 CD and the Aladdin DVD, so we didn't bother to even show up til 7AM. We got what we wanted quite easily, but the line to check out... wrapped around the perimeter of the store...we guestimated it was a good 2 hour wait to check out.... we quickly left! *L*

I was at Best Buy too, I expected it to be super crowded but it wasn't as bad as I thought. But When we picked up a few things we wanted and went to the cashier to buy them, there was HUGE line around the entire store, I went to the back of it and walked in the line for about 20 minutes. But then they opened up a new line and we went to that one :D We got lucky. Not to mention that was about 8:30 too, I thought everything was going to be sold out but it wasn't really that bad.

I was at Best Buy at 2:15 am and about 40th in line. After they passed me, I believe the guy only had 2 or 3 laptops left. I was in line last year at 3:45 and only 25th back, but I figured I'd try to get up closer to the door this year...boy was I wrong LOL But yes, with Best Buy, you need to get there super early. People were lining up at 9:30pm last night at the door.

I got up at 230 and was out the door at 3am. I got to BB at 330 and we were about 50 in line. Our Best Buy had 40 and I was one of the lucky ones. I also got Mean girls, and a CD for 6.99. DH had to get the upgrade memory and a bag for the laptop and we got stuff to network all the computers at the houses.. The lady and front of me took 3 tickets and a lady from way and the back was begging for a ticket and she gave her one. It made her day. :yelclap:

Then we went to Sears >OMG that was a mad house just turned around and left LOL :giggle: . Went to Mcraes and got my moms boyfriend a massager that goes in his chair for 18.00 orginally 40.00 . Also got some silverware a serving size for 12 with accessorys for 39.00 orginally 108 dollars..

Then went to Home depot and bought my mom a microwave that had a toaster built in.. We are at her house this weekend so I got her christmas early :yelclap:

I got everything I wanted and was shocked by the light traffic in all the stores I went to. I must say Best Buy was the busiest, but they had some really good unadvertised specials. All Fuji brand Blank DVD and CD were HALF price. I got a 100 pack 8x for just over $25, awesome deal. All in all this was the best BF for me. I just got back from Wal-Mart this evening and they still have pallets and pallets of everything, I picked up a couple of game boys, a dual screen dvd player for the van, and a portable dvd player, all of which were 6-11 special and all of which they still had plenty of.

I kid you not! Those people looked pretty bitter and miserable and they didn't appear chatty or to be in a good mood. Can't blame 'em, but they've got only themselves to blame, don't they?! Just read some lady got her nose broken for some $10 stuff. Now imagine what people would do for a $400 instant rebate!

As far as the laptop, I think for basic use it's sufficient and the price is very attractive. I'm just wondering if it's a wide screen (I've heard conflicting reports) and if it can take a Wi-Fi card plug-in. Th e eMachine is pretty good too, since you get a free monitor and 512MB (vs. 256MB from last year). It baffles me that they still didn't put in an AGP slot. eMachines' technical support is pretty good: very short holding time and the rep seems to be competent.

I just have to say...I am NEVER going to BB on BF EVER again. :curse:

So, after dropping by KB at 5 am, I decide to go to BB in Portland, and get there at 6:30am. It was after I drove around forever just to find a parking spot somewhere in the parking lot which is connected to Michael's, that I realized the line to the already open store was wrapping around the store, and I was one of the lucky few that got my spot in line right next to the dumpsters behind the store. Now, I have to tell you, I am not one of the people that stands outside (I usually wait until its about time for the store to open) since I am allergic to the cold, and get these nasty hives on my body, but I figured since the store was open, it wouldn't take long to get in. Well, a good 20 minutes later, I get in the store.

I find what I went there for pretty fast, and get in line. Now the thing is...there was only 4 registers open! One for the computers, one for cameras, one for home theater, and one for all the other stuff. After getting in line, I noticed...the lines aren't moving. So, I keep checking my phone for the time, since I really want to go other places. After a while, I realized it took 5 minutes at the minimum for them to check one freaking person out. :splat: That was when I started to get mad. After 3 hours of standing in the same freaking line, and numerous candy in my mouth to stop me from telling everyone off around me, I am the third person from the register. A cute blond comes up and asks me and the woman ahead of me to come with her and she would take us to another register to speed up the process. I was like...woo hoo! So, we follow her, and low and behold...she takes us to....ANOTHER LINE. So, instead of me being the third in line, I am now the 5th in a new line. The computer freezes up and they have to call someone to work on it. By that time...I realize it's time for me to tell her off. She just ignores me....like she doesn't know what I'm talking about when I ask her why I was almost at the start of line before, and now I have to wait again. She just tells me...yup. No sorry, nothing sweet...just ....yup. Since then I have needed a drink. :2roller: Best Buy made me go crazy.

The only thing that really pissed me off this BF was a man standing behind us. We were all chatting of course along with him. The woman right behind me and right in front of him was talking about how next year she won't have the extra "weight" of a baby inside her to slow her down and the baby will be old enough to leave home with hubby etc. Well as soon as the doors opened we ran into the store only to hear a pretty loud boom. I had no idea what it was so I kept going only to find out a little later he slammed her into the doorframe to get past her. I'm sorry but what an :censored: ! When I seen her she had a lump on her forehead. I knew what she was there looking for and had told her in line that I would make sure I grab one for her just in case she couldn't get to it. Needless to say she got the portable DVD she wanted but also got a nice lump too.

That's not a horror story compared to my BB horror story. I ended up getting the Toshiba after getting there at 5 am! And yes... at 5 am, there was a line of approx. 300+ people!

Door opens at 10 min. before 6! People start walking in. As soon as I get in, I asked a BB employee where the Toshiba laptops were situated. Unfortunatly, he didn't know. And neither did 3 or 4 other BB employees who work in the COMPUTER department! Then finally, some manager looking employee told me they were at the back of the store. I quickly rushed to the back only to find another waiting line! This time it was for the laptop itself.

So I got into the line and saw about 40 or so people ahead of me. And moments later there was about 10 or so people behind me! This line did not move more than a few feet with in a timeframe of approximately 2 whole hours! All the while BB employees went up and down the line looking for people with the early bird laptop tickets. They were hell bent on getting all the early bird people their laptops first. This was completed at approximately 9:00 AM! Yes... I had to wait in another line for over 3 hours just to see other people walk off with the laptop I wanted! However, BB employees kept reassuring the people in line that they have a stock of laptops for the non-ticket people as well! A little sigh of relief!

So finally, the line I was in was actually progressing forward. Eventually I end up at the front and I'm redirected to a office to get my laptop! Or so I thought! I walk into a room with two tables full of computer stuff like flash drives, laptop bags, routers, ect... And a salesman behind the tables. And so I walked up to the tables and began the process of getting what I want. The BB salesmen then told me that they have the laptop I want, but there was one SMALL LITTLE CHANGE! The $500 laptops were all gone! They were given to the early bird ticket folks! Then I asked, what are those laptops stashed behind the tables? His answer: They are the exact same laptops, but we installed extra software on those laptops such as Norton Anti-Virus, anti-spy/adware software, ect... and the laptop price is now $623! An extra $123!

At that very moment, I knew that I was being taken for a ride! They jack up the price of the laptop by installing software I have no need for! WTF? I have better software already at my disposal. I felt like I was being ripped off! But at the same time... where the heck was I going to find a brand new Toshiba laptop for around $600? And it was already 9:30 AM when I was called into the office. I had planned to go to Fry's Electronics as soon as I was done with BB. But by 9:30 AM I was certain that all the smoking deals at Fry's were gone! Kind of a genius idea to whoever thought of it because it explains why they had such a long delay before they started handing out the laptops! It prevented the people from going anywhere else such as Circuit City, and CompUSA (nearby stores) because all the good deals at those stores would be gone by the time BB would begin handing out laptops! So I was stuck between a rock and a hard place! I ended up just accepting the laptop. Also got the carrying case, wireless router, and an extended warrenty. Hold on folks, the story ain't over yet!

After placing my order I was instructed to wait in another line to pay for these items! This line was not very different from the line I had just got out of! I would move approximately 5 feet every 30 minutes! No joke folks... I'm serious! The line was going into a employee's only area where only five people customers were taken at a time. At approximately 11:05 AM, I was finally let into the employee's area where I had 3 other people ahead of me and one behind me! I finally walked of Best Buy just after 11:30 AM!

I was joyous and furious at the same time! I got ripped off, I had to waste my entire Black Friday at Best Buy and didn't get a chance to go anywhere else to get gifts for family and friends. And I was really determined to go to Circuit City for the $700 42" TV. Unfortunatly, none of these happened! I was left disappointed and the only thing keeping me from total disappointment was the fact that I had a laptop in my hand! And right now... I'm not quite satisfied with the laptop and I'm thinking of returning it.

Well folks, I've decided. The Toshiba laptop I got at Best Buy is going back! I will return that and exchange it for a better laptop at Fry's Electronics.

In a way I'm glad to hear that. Only because I felt bad for not getting there to get it for my son who is going to College next year. I'll just keep my eyes and ears open for a good deal on a GOOD laptop!
