BB $199 PC?

I was there today looking at this computer it doesn't look too bad the only problem I have is that it is 400.00 in MIR . I'm not sure how fast they are on rebates and I needed a cheap new computer as a backup because I use mine for work. I'd be interested in other people's opinions on this computer. Things are very tight here and that would be about all the money I have and then some - meaning no other deals. I was even considering one of the cheaper laptops advertised but I have DSL and I'm not sure how much of a hassle it would be to use a laptop with it :(

anybody have specs? opinions? thoughts?

A few thoughts:

1) $400 is a lot in rebates.

2) If this comes with a 17" CRT monitor then it's a Hot Deal. Otherwise it's luke warm.

3) If this comes with regular Windows XP Home and 17" CRT then BUY IT!!!. If it comes with Lindows then ...

Dell usually has the Dimension 3000 PC with 17" CRT for $349 with free shipping.

can anyone verify the ad says it's a 17 inch? When I went today they had it hooked up to a 15 inch and when I asked about a 17 inch for it I was told they were sold out < which could mean they are in back waiting for black friday> I can't really tell in ad pic, can anyone confirm?

Also am I right about the 400 MIR , I am pretty sure thats what the ad said?

I think its a good deal, the Dimension has less memory and a smaller hard drive for more money. It is a 17" CRT Flat screen monitor or for $379 you get the 15" LCD flat panel monitor Here is a picture of the add:

This has 512 mb memory with 80g HD, the dimension 3000 comes with only 256mb memory and a 40g HD.

Yeah, the 15" LCD is a beter deal probably. But for $199 with a 17" CRT and XP its a pretty good deal. I'd almost buy one if I already didn't have 4 computers and a PDA at home (yeah, I finally bought a HP 3115).

Best Buy does not deal with Lindows or any Linux system pre-installed as far as I know. Maybe in concept stores, but definitley not in any I've heard of.

So you will definitley get XP Home Edition.

Those emachines are alright if all you're doing is web and MS Office and occasionally dealing with some mp3s or something. I wouldn't recommend it for gaming or serious development.

I am planning on buying one again this year. It will be my third year in a row. Last year I payed closer to 250.00 after rebates without the monitor so this year is the best deal yet. Yes they come with windows xp. for family use we are perfectly happy with them. We play all kinds of games on them with no problem. Any time I have had a question and have had to call the emachine company I have been happy with the phone service. 400.00 in rebates is quite a bit but I pay with my credit card and put the refunds on the credit card as soon as it gets in (you have to be determined and not waver from your plan when you do this).

Guest Luckycharm

Says 17" CRT flatscreen Monitor in the ad.

This is a H*LL of a deal, how would I know that? It's what I'm typing on right this second only w/ a 15" Monitor LOL! It's XP home that comes w/ it and I love this darn puter! The boyfriend bought it for me last Xmas at BB and there were a million rebates on it then too. If you buy it, you are gonna wait good and long for those rebates.........think he finally got the last one in March???
