So far, this is the only ad that has made me say "WOW"! I think I might be hitting the Big M on Black Friday...and to think, I won't have to camp out in the cold to take advantage of the sales!

Couple of questions from some "experienced" BF'ers...

1- What is the price matching policy at Meijer? I've never PMed on anything before, so I'm just kind of curious...

2- Are you able to load up your cart before 5, and just sort of wander around till then?

I guess the only downfall I am seeing is that I don't think Meijer does a gift card for the first "x" number of customers (or do they??)...but that's a small price to pay!

This will be my first BF...I'm so excited! I guess you could call me a BF virgin! :rotflol:

andrea

btw...just a general computer question for some of you techies out there...I'm looking into purchasing a laptop for typical student needs (writing papers, email use, some games, etc). Should I jump on these BF specials or would I be better off just paying the bigger bucks and ordering one later on? If you buy a BF laptop, they basically come as is, right? You can't add extra features to it (for a fee of course!)...? Basically hope that whatever it comes with is what you need? thx!

They are in NW Ohio in a few places.

Yes you can load up your cart early there, did it last year. They are usually well stocked on what they are using for BF ads and you should get one.

The bigger Meijer Stores carry computers, the smaller ones dont

Dont know what their price matching policy is. Call your store and ask because here they pricematch every day to Walmart and grocery stores.

thank goodness for luckycharm! :yelclap::bow:

1 Meijer PriceMatching - DO check in advance with your local store as YMMV - but-many Meijers will PM general merchandise with certain limitations - I believe that the exclusions are BOGO, percentage off, and closeout. A number of Meijers have also been PMing grocery items! :clapping:

2 I have not gone there before 5am, so I am not certain - I would suggest that you try to ask somebody who works the floor about what will happen, THEN go ask the front desk. Again YMMV as Meijer is open 24 hours and I have seen very different policies in different stores regarding regular sales.

techie question - generally yes, it's like buying a car off the lot - you can make SOME minor changes later, but not very many and they can be expensive. If you know what you want, unless you can find something extremely close to that in a BF package, you may prefer to order to your laptop to your specs. A key consideration is the processor - do you want or need the power of a full Pentium M? or will a Celeron M suffice for your needs? There is also the Athlon option, but I have not heard anything good or bad about their laptop processors yet. Good luck in school!!

I had been planning on hitting Walmart & Walgreens first, but after seeing this ad I'm heading straight for Meijer on BF!! Found my coffeemaker on there for less than Walgreens has theirs. :D And the fact I can get in before 6 means I can get my stuff and be out of there early enough I can still go to the other places. LOL

But if you wait till BF, don't you get 3 free games with the GBA SP? Or is it, you get to choose one game out of 3 available titles?

I noticed that they have their Trim a Tree stuff on discount on BF...I was wondering...we desperately need to replace our artificial tree...when is the best time to buy one of those? Any one know of any good sales on trees right now?

thanks!

Was just there today and had a blast. Bought a WONDERFUL back massager cushion for my chair after trying the demo near the pharmacy. It's a Homedics (sp?) brand and does a shiatsu style massage that you can program to do whatever area you want. On sale for $99.98 :yup:

I don't know if all of the Meijer stores are doing it, but mine also has a deal where if you buy $100 or more you get a $10 coupon good on your next purchase of $25 or more. The coupons are good thru the 24th.

Unfortunately for you this year, I'd have to guess that the best time to buy an artificial tree would be just after Christmas. Beyond that, the next 2 best times would probably be BF or in some places on Christmas Eve maybe.

Some stores will have special one day sales between BF and Christmas -often a Wed or Sat - that may help you save some money at least, in the event you don't want to wait.

As for the 3games etc - as I said, today may not have been the best or even a really good deal, but it appears to me that a lot of people are looking for it, so I just wanted them to be aware of a possibly good deal.

Our Meijer might be a special case, because this weekend was their "pardon our dust" event. They just finished a remodel (coincidentally, just as the Walmart SuperCenter was opening across the street...) and I had a 10% off entire purchase coupon to use.

So I don't know if it was location-specific, but my checkout coupons included a "$4 off any item $19.97 and up" and a "$6 off any item $29.97 and up" They're good the 21st through 27th, so Meijer is inching up my priority list.

I can also add that my Meijer did the price-matching for the exact hours of other stores' doorbuster ads last year, and I had no trouble arriving early, loading the cart, and checking out at 6:01 am.

MY question is: The last year (or two?) they had a "phased" BF sale--some Thursday-only specials, some Friday-only specials, and some good Thurs-Sat, if I recally. Anyone know if they'll use that setup this year? Seems there's only one known ad so far; last year they were all layered together in the T-day paper.

wow! good memory Mark! I forgot about how they layered those pages in the ad. I wonder if the confusion they had to deal with was more trouble than the benefits of getting people to come in at different times of the day - some folks just don't read the ads  , they see a pretty picture and want it on sale, NOW!! :rotflol:

I started sniffing around through some of the ads listed on this site, and I think I may have spotted a possible good deal on a tree...

Either Kmart or Walmart (I suspect it was WM) had a 7 foot prelit tree on sale for $30-39...should I jump on that offer? Of course, I won't really know for sure until I see the actual ads in front of me, but I think that's what showed up on the computer screen....

Does Meijer have a limit on the number of items you can PM? I've seen alot of things that are on sale elsewhere at a lower price, and would love to get them all at Meijer if possible...

Also, I think from what I recall, Meijer doesn't PM ads for % off, BOGO, etc...but I saw the My First Leapfrog in the TRU ad and started wondering...it says "40% off" but it also has an actual sale price underneath it ($14.95 i believe). Would that fall into a no no catagory at Meijer, or would they possibly honor it?

Looks like Mother Nature isn't going to favor us BF Michiganders, so I am glad that I am making Meijer my first (only?) stop of the day!! Of course, I guess it won't be a "true" BF experience unless I camp my big ole arse on the concrete outside the stores beforehand...but I'll make due somehow!! :rotflol:

Personally I'd go to the store before BF to see if I liked or not - a tree to me is a rather personal choice, which you will most likely live with for 5-10 years. Also check this weeks regular ads, a few did have deals on trees thru Wed.

I'm not aware of a "hard" limit on the number of items, but I assume that the the old "reasonable" standard will apply. If you have too many items - break them into smaller lots, preferably with different people going to the cashier!! I'd also recommend going to different cashiers. Otherwise, maybe buy half of the items, put them in the car. Go walk around the store for a while, have some breakfast - then buy the rest. Use some common sense basically.

% off with a specific price - YMMV - It depends on the cashier usually - I've had this problem a few times. Frequently, after they raise it to me as a problem, I try to politely point out that while the ad does list the percentage, the actual sales price IS listed, which is their requirement. This usually does the trick, as the rule is primarily intended to avoid having to PM another store which has a higher retail price, who then gives 20% off of that inflated price, which brings them close to Meijer or Walmarts regular price. It would be like giving a double discount. If that doesn't work, try the same thing at the customer service counter or with a manager. The main thing is to be polite but firm.

Weather is starting to look like a serious consideration!! :( all the more reason to hit the 24/7 Meijers or Walmarts where you can go inside to wait!!

Don't pin your hopes on getting one of the video now players, laptop or the game boy sp from meijers. Because it's open 24 hours, people will grab the stuff before the sale officially starts and then when It does they will either bring In their receipt for a refund or purchase It at 5am. How do I know? Well I work at one.
