I’m with ilikefree. This year is just so different that I’m not obsessively checking the forums for ads. I’m hoping that I’ll get more excited as we get closer but right now I’m definitely not anticipating it like normal. Hopefully reading the threads on here will help have everyone else’s excitement rub off on me.

I'm not even taking the ads that seriously because there won't most likely won't be any single "huge" ad with everything split up over multiple sales.

 

I mean the first 2 Walmart "BF" ads came out and I was asleep and didn't post them for like 6 hours. That would NEVER happen any other year with their real ad haha.

I'm struggling with the way everything is being split up. Do I buy now or do I wait? Will prices be better closer to actual Black Friday? I used to just ignore all the "pre Black Friday sales" because I knew day of was always the same or better. This year I'm obsessive on what's to come. It's terrible.

I do like how they are splitting everything up though. It does make the pre sales more enticing. I am eager to see how it all plays out. I look forward to seeing the chess match retailers do with each other.

My brain has zero concentration or real desire to do anything since working from home/quarantine started March 17th. I think the only thing I need, which I didn't know I needed, is a stainless steel pressure cooker.

I  am not as focused on it as in past years, checking at least once a day though.  As Brad notes, with more emphasis on spreading things out, individual ads are less prominent.  Retailers have been using the "Black Friday" label for events that aren't on or around Black Friday for some time, but they will do it even more this year, as evidenced by the first two Walmart Black Friday events (which I note Brad put in the "Additional Sales" group.  Only the third is actually on Thanksgiving week.

 

However, if you check the past years release of ads here: https://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/Dates, you see that we are actually just at the start of when ads normally come out each year.  Who would have guessed that the first real BF ads posted would be Dell Home and Dell Technologies (on October 15)?  Regular contenders Harbor Freight, True Value, and Half Price Books have not appeared yet, but will probably have ads.  

 

Another change this year is the demise of BFAds https://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/Story/18197/Welcome-Former-BFAdsnet-Visitors.  In past years, quite a few of the early "leaked" ads came to GottaDeal (and other sites) via that site.  It is not clear yet whether people who leaked ads to them will leak to another site now (hopefully GottaDeal).

I must be checking these forums at least 4 times a day, if not more. Hoping and waiting for some ads to drop so i can make a plan. My brain is on overdrive and i cant sit still. What are you doing to help ease your mind?

You need to treat this year -- every Christmas season -- as a shopping event.  Compile a list of stuff you want and the prices you'd be happy to pay.  As you peruse the ads, jump of deals that exceed your expectations.  You can always return/price adjust.  I expect popular items to sell fast as there is almost certainly limited supply and the other stuff to get cheaper going forward as demand is just as certainly limited.

 

I am excited but not to anxious. I think that there will not be to many big items as the supply lines were horribly delayed due to the virus. Thee will be some gotta have deals, but I know this year is just going to what it is.

We aren't winding down at all.  It's just a very weird year for everyone and that includes the retailers.  Once all the dust settles from Covid, I'm sure eventually Black Friday type sales will return.

It has bern a weird year. I am still checking in for ads but have almost completed my shopping. Only waiting on American Eagle/Hollister for kids wishlist and then till after 11/1 to order the requested shoes from shoes.com. I want to wait till the holiday return period hits just incase we have to deal with size issues

Nah just as you said it's a weird year all around. I do think BF won't be the same moving forward if the retailers find the way they are doing things works moving forward. I do guarantee though that the minute people can be back in Walmart assaulting each other over $3 towels and $5 toasters they will be. :sidesplit

Back when they started their first preview sale, they said the rest of their ad would come "later this month" and their current sale & BF price matching promotion ends Wednesday night. There will most likely be another early access sale for some of these newly revealed BF items Wednesday night, so be ready for that.

 

- No inside news on the 3rd Walmart BF ad (for BF week) but my guess is that will come out during the days between the first 2 sales, so sometime around November 7th through the 10th.

 

- As I posted in another Kohl's thread, there will be a one-day-only $15 Kohl's Cash sale on November 6th. This will likely be the day they reveal their Black Friday ad and have a one-day-only early access sale for some of the deals. It's on a Friday, which is the same day of the week as they did it last year.

 

- Target says they will be having Black Friday deals all November long, including specially marked Black Friday deals in their weekly ads. I'd expect the first of these deals to come out in next Sunday's ad (November 1st). We should have that ad posted Friday.

 

- Black Friday appliance deals at Home Depot and Lowe’s will likely start on November 4th and 5th respectively.
