What do you put in your kids' stockings?

Well mine are big now. I usually try to get things to go with their big gifts. Like model kits and gaming figures will get paint, brushes, and small tools. Record player got cleaning supplies. I also get small tools like multi-tool gadgets, or this year one is getting a caliper. Also mechanic gloves, and probably 3D printer filament.

Other staples are gaming cards, earbuds, a favorite snack, and candy.

Both boys play hockey, so they get 1 stocking with stuff like stick tape, sock tape, new laces, mouth guards, wax, any little hockey trinkets I pick up at tournaments, etc. and 1 stocking with the regular stuff: toothpaste, new toothbrushes, deodorant, boxers, socks, Nintendo gift cards, etc. I will wrap any and every little thing in the month of December and count it as a “Christmas gift”. Lol

When my sons were younger we would put hot wheels, playdough, another small toy or two, and some of their favorite candy.

When they got older I would put gift cards in them.

For my daughter, when she was really young I put in a few pieces of candy and a few small toys (one year I put a small Barney in it).  When she got a little older, I put cheap makeup in it.  She used it for dress up.. I also put some of her favorite candy, chapstick, bracelets, necklaces, playdough,  and other stuff like that.

She is now 13, and for the last few years I've put in a few gift cards, chapstick, and candy.  I also got her fuzzy socks last year and she loved them, so that will probably become a tradition.

I also put glow sticks in my kids' stockings when they were younger and something that has been in stockings since they were all very young is gummy worms.  To this day we still put them in everyone's stocking..lol

My son just turned 16 so this year I'm going to get him some gift cards for gas and restaurants, some air fresheners for his car, candy, and he always gets socks and underwear which he loves. My daughter is 11 so she is getting some body spray, lip gloss, an itunes gift card, scrunchies, candy, socks and underwear. Stockings are actually my favorite thing to buy for on Christmas. I think it's so fun to find the perfect little gifts for the stockings. Christmas morning its the first thing my kids can open. Then we have a big Christmas breakfast and then we open gifts.

I might have to try this order on Christmas morning. We usually ( they usually ) wake up early and make a lot of noise to make me get up, then I ALWAYS read over the birth of Jesus to make sure they understand the reason for the season and then open gifts afterwards we eat breakfast but they are so into there stuff that the last few years it has not gone well.

When my boys were growing up, I always filled their stockings with candy.  Now that I have grandkids, their parents only let them have 1 or 2 pieces of candy at a time (they're probably better parents than I was, LOL), so I hate to give them a bunch of candy that they aren't going to enjoy.  I just quit doing stockings a few years ago. No one seemed to notice or care. LOL

I used to put candy in my kids stockings when they were younger and I didn't care if they ate it all that day because it was Christmas  :holiday12  :holiday07

This is the one area I struggle in.  I have an 8 year old son who is turning 9 on New Years Day.  Since his birthday is so close to Christmas I have to shop during the year so that I can afford to get him what he wants and not combine the two occasions because he doesn't deserve that.  I have no trouble with his gifts but I have trouble figuring out what to put in his stocking, and what to put in my husbands stocking.  I think it's fun to find little surprise things they will like and put them in there but then get discouraged because sometimes I get the feeling they don't care.  They know how I love stockings and putting surprises in them but then on Christmas morning they almost completely overlook the stocking and mine is usually empty.

Stockings are my favorite part of Christmas morning. They were always filled with surprises whereas the gifts under the tree were mostly things I asked for or needed. Have you talked to you husband and son and flat out told them that you have been really disappointed that they don’t take the time to fill a stocking for you since they know it’s your favorite part of the holiday ? I think sometimes hints are not enough for some people to pick up on and you have to be straightforward and to the point.

As for stocking stuffer ideas for boys/men, I like to get accessories to their big gift or small things that relate to their hobbies (like fishing lures/hooks/sinkers/line or golf balls/tees/gloves etc). Then I add some of their favorite snacks like beef jerky, cashews or chips (I prefer Pringle’s chips because the chips won’t get crushed and the canister fills up a lot of room in the stocking without breaking the bank).

EDIT: I just looked at the Lowe’s ad and on page 2 they have dewalt bit sets and a craftsman tape measure for $4.98 each. Small tool items like this might be great for a man who is handy around the house.

Another Edit: a new phone charging cord or portable cell phone battery pack always come in handy too.

When I was a kid, my mom put things in my stocking that "would keep me busy".

I was allowed to open and play with anything in my stocking til my parents woke up, Little toys, cards, puzzle books, ect.

One memorable year there was a Tamagotchi (my mother regretted that), but normally it was things that would keep me busy (& quiet) for a few hours.

There was usually also a couple pieces of candy, & a couple snacks so I wasn't a little starving monster when my parents got up.

Also I'd wake up Christmas morning to my stocking filled on the foot of my bed. (Easier to keep me quiet I guess.
