Dont forget all the nice utils at http://www.sysinternals.com/ and they're all FREE!

Some cool ones:
Autoruns - see what's starting up plus browser and search helpers
Filemon - file system activity in real-time
Regmon - like filemon but for the registry
NTFS drivers for DOS and Win98 - read only but hey, that's something MS didn't even do.
and MANY more...

:2welcome: to the forums.

Most of these applications are safe but you need to be more specific in which ones you're interested in?

I use alot of those programs and they're safe to download. This is the best list of freeware I've seen in one place.

As others have said... Most of these should be safe. If you post which ones you are interested in, someone here may be able to provide some feedback or offer something else that has been tested.

I just had a Web site client who needed to burn some CDs. We tried doing it over the phone using the basic program that came with her laptop. I couldn't figure it out (over the phone anyway...)

I had her download and install CDBurnerXP Pro (and I did the same). I then walked her through burning a CD and creating a compilation project. No sweat! Plus, as you mouse over the icons little pop-up messages show you what the icons do (should make it easy for newbies).

The program can create or burn .iso files, create an audio CD, or rip audio files too, so it does 99% of the things that people do with CD burner software. Works with DVDs too.

http://www.cdburnerxp.se/download.php

(It's one of the recommended proggies on the 450+ list)

I am using SyncBack Freeware V3.2.13 for my backup and synching needs. (It's one of the recommended proggies on the 450+ list)

I tried about 4 different backup solutions, including demos of some "for pay" software. I think SyncBack Freeware is the best.

I'm also using FileZilla in place of WS_FTP Pro. Advantages: FileZilla is free, can run from a flash drive and is much faster than WS_FTP Pro.

I've used SyncBack before and I must say it is a great solution. It is probably even worth the $25 to the paid version for many. It allows you to back up open/locked files as well. No need to shut down your office application or email while running the backup.

ww w.
openoffice.
or g ***

They have a suite of Microsoft Office Comparable products that work great. Whenever I tried to send someone a spreadsheet done on my MS Works software, they would always have a problem opening it. The Works spreadsheet also had problems opening Excel files. With Open Office, I don't have any more problems.

I would really reccomend simply reformatting the computer to it's new state using the restore files or cd.

Otherwise, you pretty much have to remove everything manually... CCleaner is a good app to if you are looking to get rid of stuff you don't need.

Any suggestions for a free "internet cleaner" that deletes your internet activity, for example, when I do online banking. Does the password I used to sign into my bank account, and other banking information remain on my computer, such as temp files. Does a windows washer type program really work? Thanks.

Unless you have your browser specifically set to enter the bank ID and password, it will be deleted the moment you close your browser.

You'll know if you have it set up if: when you visit the log-in page, if the ID and password appear to be typed for you.
