We're looking to get my son a new cell phone for Christmas. We just don't see the point in spending $700+ on a galaxy s9. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good android phone? Thanks.

Top of the line phone:   Oneplus.net  and get a 6t  - under $600  (stands up to iphone or s9, but does not advertise same, etc)

Upper Mid range - tons of options  - depends on your specific wants

Lower mid range - honor 8x - $169 on sale, keep eye out

Get the 6T if you can afford it.  Otherwise, we would need your price range.

Also, Check out the Essential phone.  $400 gets you a very good phone.  I had a coworker score a new one for about $350 about a month ago.

Both of the above suggestions will work for either ATT or TMobile (and their MVNOs).  If you are on Sprint, you have much fewer choices.  If you are on Verizon, good luck.  The Samsung S8 is still a good phone if you are stuck with Verizon.
