Question: With the introduction of the "GottaDeal.com" reseller special using DirectAdmin. How are backups handled, how often, where to, etc.?

If anyone else has questions regarding Idologic.com the company or their services, please post them here!

If we want to go from a whm/cpanel account(previous host) to a directadmin account (idologic.com), how is that handled?

There's a script that will convert most of the account setup (dbs, emails, etc). Since it's under continual development it's considered beta, but it works without problem so far.

We assist in moving for free if you have a reasonable # of domains.

Re. the backups, the server has 2 drives setup as a RAID-1 and the backups are going to our backup server :D

If there's anything else then let me know and I'll answer them as I will check here daily.

I'm actually waiting for Idologic to move my accounts over from a cPanel/WHM account. I will let you guys know how it goes.

Here's how it goes: we need for each account: - a full cpanel backup, uploaded to your DA reseller account - username (+user pass if possible, otherwise reseller pass) for the cPAnel account - domain for the account And that's it :) Thanks, DH

How often is there a backup to a seperate server?

Raid-1 ensures the files will be fine, but just for discussions let's say a user was deleted, the user will be deleted on both drives.

I just want to say quickly that my move from cPanel/whm to DA is complete. Hopefully everything will be propagated by tomorrow.

There are some things to consider before you decide to make that move.

Rest assured however that DH knows what he is doing and will work hard to make the move as smooth as possible.

I will give all the details tomorrow including some things that we found out during the process.

For now.... I'm tired. It is after 1:00 am here.... I need sleep.

every 24 hours. You can also backup your user files into your own reseller account at any schedule you like.

Re. the move, it turns out DA does not like having a db user use more than 1 db and sometimes the db password doesn't get copied correctly. All that needs to be done to fix this is to create the db user in DA and/or set the password.

My experience moving from cPanel to DA is posted here.

I felt that it was worth having a separate thread to focus specifically on the move.

Special thanks to Idologic_DH for his outstanding patience and support.

Hi all, just wanted to test out my new "gottadeal.com" forum's account. RossMan suggested DH and I pop in here to check things out. I must say, you folks are the most savvy collection of consumers I've ever encountered. Keep up the great work. Cheers Jeff

Jeff or Damiaan,

Regarding backups for these new DA "GottaDeal" reseller accounts.

Am I correct in assuming these are backed up twice daily?
1) Once to another hard drive in the same server (RAID)?
2) Backup is sent OFF SITE (in the event of a disaster at Global Crossing DC our backups would be safe at an off site location)?

Thanks :)

Ross

Hi Ross, RAID is not really a backup, it provides redundancy in case of drive failure. They are backed up off-server. Clients can automatically FTP their backups off-site if they wish using DA. Thanks! :)

Just wanted to add that in addition to the gottadeal exclusive discount, we now also have our cPanel packages on sale.

http://www.idologic.com/

Of course, there's a little extra there for gotta deal members:
- on any package receive a free hosted cerberus helpdesk (cerberusweb.com) that's a 299USD value!
- with the gottadeal special #3 or the intermediate reseller and up, get a free whoiscart (whoiscart.net).
- Installation is free for both packages.

note: cerberus license cannot be transferred, whoiscart license cannot be transferred. All support for both products is through Idologic Inc. Whoiscart licenses are limited to 5 for now.

You're welcome. The new site is actually not up yet, what you see is my 30 minute job to keep us going till the site is done.

Why do you have a "temporary" site? Why not just go to the new one once it's ready?

My guess would be that there was no DA information on the old site. I could be wrong though.

That doesn't explain the need for a temporary site... either that or I'm misunderstanding something

Correct, that's 1 reason, plus the site has moved servers and the whole backend is different and fitting the old site to it would have taken time away from getting the new one done ;).
