Any gift ideas for a 9 year old girl?

Hello! I'm not a huge poster but I lurk here almost every year. I am in a bit of a bind and I'm hoping some people will chime in. I'm in a group at my church who is buying Christmas gifts for a family who is having a very difficult time but needs to remain completely anonymous. That being said, my husband and I have selected the 9 year old girl from this family to buy gifts for. I'm having some issues figuring out what to buy a 9 year old I know nothing about...can anyone think of generic but still special gifts that a 9 year old girl might like to receive? The budget is around $150 and I don't think they have a computer or any up to date technology in the home so tech stuff doesn't really work. Any ideas as to what a 9 year old might like?

Free Wifi is available so many places that a kindle tablet would work too. You could even pre load it with age appropriate books and games and of course a cover and small amazon gift card.  I would also recommend sharpie marker sets and other craft supplies, board games, bath and body works, lego sets for girls, easy bake oven with supplies, puzzles ....

It all depends if she is a girly girly or the outdoor type. No t sure if you know the family well but I would try to figure out what her likes and dislikes are but remaining anonymous that may be difficult.

Hair stuff

Nail stuff

Styling Doll Head

Inexpensive Karaoke Machine

Clothes and Shoes

 Kinetic Building Craft

My Password Journal

Graphic Skinz Design Studio

Inexpensive tablet ( Walmart- RCA $35-40 )

Bath Set

Jewelry Set

MP3 Player loaded with music

Things along those lines.

I have several neices but on is eight and two more are nine. They both like the rubber band looms, they aren't too hard for her to do on her own. Also Walmart has little direction books for bracelets and charms. They also have big packs of bands in multiple colors. Also there are knitting kits that she might like as well.

Edited: because I'm forgetting my neices ages.

Thanks for the great suggestions! I'll check the rubber band looms and knitting kits out as well!

Kindle Fires are rumored to be $22 this Black Friday. They are amazing little devices. She can download books or movies and use

Them later without wifi. There are lots of free games and apps.I bet she would be over the moon with a Fire. There are also free apps that she can communicate with friends. I also like the parental controls so she can only access what her parents allow

  • 2 weeks later...

I feel your pain-- I'm buying for a 10 and 12 year old I don't know. But, I do know not all girls are girly.

I'd 2nd the m3p/ personal cd player posts.

Experiment kits and spy gear.

Sports equipment-- rollerblades

Books- Serafina and the Black Cloak is worth checking out.

Diaries and art supplies.

I think I'm going to split my $ for each into 3 parts: gc to someplace like Target, a science/art/craft kit, and a book of games or board game. One of those has got to be a winner!?
