I want to get my son a tablet for his 3rd birthday. I mostly want it for learning games to keep him entertained on long car rides. If he knows that it plays videos, that the only thing he's going to want to do. Everyone I've asked has said to get him an iPad but I don't really want to spend that much.

I'm wondering if anyone here has some good recommendations?

First off, the kindle fire is on sale right now for $39.99. In case you didn't know.

Your son would probably be happy with either, but my personal choice is the kindle fire. There are so many free apps/games/books and it's even better with Amazon Underground. We have both at our house and I don't even know when the last time the leap pad was used.

Kindle Fire.  He will outgrow the LeapPad, but the Kindle can grow with him.
