Do you secretly get nervous the moment leading up...

So, I look forward to BF EVERY YEAR!  Its literally my favorite holiday!!  Every year I am so excited and coming on this website everyday from about sept until the big day and then every day after BF.  HOWEVER, it never fails, the night of BF when I head out, I always get alittle nervous. IDK why.  I guess its just anxiety and hoping that I get all that I am wanting to get.  I get really nervous when we show up at Walmart.  I see all the cars and people who have been there since earlier that day and I just think, "there's no way there's anything left!!"  Surprisingly enough, there's always stuff left and I, for the most part, get all that I am looking for, plus some!  But am I the only who get these nervous/anxious feelings?

I don't get nervous, but I had had some anxiety while waiting in Walmart for them to unwrap the doorbusters. I think its just the rush of the event itself.  I have compared Black Friday to the Super Bowl to many people who have never done it. Not to say I've participated in the Super Bowl, but both require strategy and preparation so anxiety I think would be pretty common.  People don't realize that Black Friday is a sport and really should be treated as such.  The sales are equivalent to wins and losses and the doorbusters are considered the playoffs.  Get the majority of what you've wanted and you've won the championship.

I'm glad you started this thread, because I sometimes get a little nervous at Wal-mart as well and thought it was just me! I've seen the results of a few BF "battles", and as the time gets closer for the merchandise to be unwrapped, I get anxious that people will get too eager and start pushing or worse. Usually though, after the initial unwrapping, people tend to concentrate on quickly picking their item and moving on.   :holiday08

I wouldn't say I get nervous. I do get butterflies and my anxiety increases, but for me it's thrill and excitement.  Now, sometimes if there's something I really really hope to get, I might get nervous leading up to the event, but it's not very often anymore (since my kids are grown) that I'm shopping for MUST HAVEs.

Yes, Yes, Yes..... this is so meee!!!   I get anxiety driving to the store - I guess my fear is that everything is gone or I haven't looked at the ads right and I am going to miss out on something wonderful.  Online, I am in a panic when it goes slow and I have to wait...then I start thinking that I might have to go to the store if this doesn't work and did I know when everything is opening and.... and.... and.....

The most funny part about this is that I am usually shopping for things for the house, or as a family. Nothing for gift really. Then it dawns on me that it really doesn't matter because I have been Christmas shopping for months and if everything WAS gone, I still have presents.

Wait, after reading that, why do I love Black Friday? lol......

Yes, that is awesome!  It is a sport that requires skill and planning and a bit of chance and luck. I will think of it more this way and know that I will be winning a championship of shopping!  Yessssssss!!!!! :greenappl

I start to panic because I know some relative of mine will ask me to get some major item for them at the last minute and then get mad when I don't manage to get it. It happens every year, even after I started giving the same speech every Thanksgiving about "If you wanted the TV/laptop/video game console, you should have been in line hours ago and I cannot get it for you". I even got a phone call last year asking me to get something on BF, on the day AFTER BF!

My favorite was last year. I cooked a full Thanksgiving meal for 25 people without help, no one helped clean up, and then my sister and a BIL asked me to go to Walmart to get TVs for them because they were too tired from all the food. Needless to say, I'm not hosting the holidays this year.

I get anxiety while driving to the store too... but that's because there are about a gajillion people are out driving around sleep deprived on icy mid west roads.  At the store, not not nerves, just adrenaline! I think that's because i never go for small appliances. anywhere near those things and I'd be terrified! Truth is:  I love the rush. When 8,000 people are dead silent for 30 seconds and all you hear is the rip of the plastic....  only time i was ever actually nervous was the year a walmart 'temporary employee' threatened to cut me, then i started a near riot. My hands were not near anything, I was waiting nicely. one of us was escorted out of the store, and it wasn't me. :)

I have some pretty severe social anxiety that likes to flare up on my way to do my BF shopping. I don't do well in groups of strangers as it is and because of rheumatoid arthritis I struggle with mobility. The last couple of black fridays have been a little unnerving as the disease has worsened. I worry about trying to maneuver through the crowd. I walk slower and with a pretty pronounced limp these days. I can't lift anything heavy and I'm prone to dropping things.  These issues get exacerbated because I'm already fatigued from holiday cooking, and then you throw me in a group with people reaching over you, hitting you with carts, etc..I took a pretty good beating two years ago just from minor interactions. lol Last year was much better, though.

I don't get secretly nervous, just full blown crazy nervous : )   Seriously, I'm a mess up until the first item is in hand.  At that point I can relax a bit. Too many times have I been screwed by employees putting me in wrong lines or missing an item because they just rip off the covers and people that were in the back smash people to get an item.  So, yeah, I hate it until I've got something : )

I used to get nervous, but now it's just more excitement than nervousness.  I go to a Walmart now that allows you to get the merchandise without having to wait until the pallets are unwrapped, so it's just chill shopping for me.

Me too!! My Rheumatologist gave me a handicapped parking pass one year and it was heavenly, except that I had to get out of my car and ask people to get out of the handicapped parking while waiting for whoever to come out of the store. I also usually do the holiday cooking too, mainly because no one likes how my other sisters cook. It just isn't worth it to me feeling wiped out for days afterward, so I try to do most of my shopping online. I also guzzle green tea for energy and it seems to help with the stiffness a bit, too.

My handicap pass was a life saver last year!  Best thing I've ever asked my doctor for. lol The year before that we had to park at the bottom of the hill and I was in tears just from trying to cross the parking lot, let alone getting back down the hill to the car itself.

Yes, because  I never know what I'm gonna find.  People fighting over things, getting trampled, getting bonked on the head.  One year when Walmart had their small kitchen appliances for $3, people were tossing them to other shoppers, boxes flying were over my head, pure craziness, but still fun!!

I always get nervous and anxious.  I wonder what kind of crazy I'm going to run into this year!  LOL!  There is always someone starting fights and those folks who have no manners!  I just don't want to get caught in the crossfire!  But it's always fun to watch!!!

I too get anxious. And nervous.

And then all of that turns into excitement and energy.

I think all the good BF shoppers get it a little bit!

The nerves had mostly died down, but with the new opening times and stores here change their rules every stinking year, the nerves are back. I never know what is what and if I can find it, let alone get it.
