Stories about Guaranteed Delivery that never showed up and other shopping complaints.

OK -- I can't be the only one here who ordered something with a "guaranteed Christmas delivery", and come Christmas morning -- no package.

My worst online purchase award for 2005 goes to Lillian Vernon. On 12/12, I ordered 2 personalized lunch boxed from them, and 2 personalized jewelry boxes -- all in time for guaranteed delivery.

I received one lunch box on 12/20. On 12/22, I received the 2 jewelry boxes, but they weren't personalized. I called cs, and she said that she could send out personalization plates, but it would be 4-6 weeks. Wha? The only reason I ordered the jewelry boxes from LV was for the personalization. Also, they were supposed to be from Santa, so how was I going to explain that? Santa must have forgotten to personalize them, and mailed them? Complete PITA, and I paid for personalized boxes, darn it! She did offer me 10% off my order, and I refused. We settled on 20% off.

On 12/23 I called to ask about the other lunch box. The cs lady said she wasn't the post office, and had no idea. It never arrived. This was also problematic, b/c the lunch boxes were also from Santa -- which would make it hard to explain its sudden appearance 2 weeks after Christmas.

On 12/26, called cutomer service again. I was very polite, but I explained that LV goofed up 75% of my order, by either shipping an incorrect item, or not shipping it at all. She stared out by telling me that in fact, my name plates for the jewelry boxes weren't coming at all -- they had been discontinued and didn't the last cs rep mention it to me?

Then she offered me another 10% off since I never received the lunch box. I said what's the point of advertising "guaranteed Christmas delivery"? Besides, the LV said "guaranteed", not 10% off if not there in time. After being put on hold for awhile, she came back and agreed to credit my account for the price of the lunch box.

So on one hand, they did offer me some concessions, but truthfully, I rather would have have 100% of my order there and correct on Christmas morning.

Anyone else have a less than satisfactory shopping experience?

I had one with KB Toys. It was guaranteed to be hear by 12-23. They shipped it overnight on 12-21 through DHL. On 12-22 no delivery! In fact even on 12-23 DHL had no idea if they had the package or not. I guess they don't scan all the packages. It was DHL's fault and not KB Toys though. KB assured me they sent the package out. I called DHL several times. I got disconnected 3 times. Waited on hold once for 16 min. I was told it would be 1 day late.:( Then I was told they never picked it up. Then I was told that I wouldn't get it before Christmas. So I asked to talk to somebody else. This guy emailed my nearest DHL office for them to find the package and deliver it on 12-24. It was delivered on Christmas Eve. :yelclap:

Have you ever seen the DHL commercials? They are not as friendly as the actors during the customer service commercial!

Go with UPS if you have want good tracking on your packages!

Actually, UPS isn't so great either. I would say Fedex.

Our UPS driver is great -- he stopped by just to let us know that he couldn't find a package that was supposed to be delivered that day 12/22 and that he had no idea where it was. We did end up getting it on 12/23.

I just thought it was nice of him to stop and let us know it was lost, incase we wanted to get something else for Christmas!!!

Frazier, since LV screwed up the order that bad did you hand out any of the presents? If not then I'd send them back and get the money back, they only care about getting whatever money they can out of you even with a discount. I'm adamant about sending things back for a refund if the company screws up like that, it's the only way to hold them accountable. Sorry for your troubles!

I didn't order that much online this year, but the few things I did order arrived in plenty of time for Christmas. DHL had me a little nervous for a few days though, thinking my package was lost since their website said "out for delivery" for three days straight.

We use our Discover cashback bonus to give a handful of people LobsterGrams for Christmas.

For the 2nd time in 3 years, they never showed up. This year, I order some at the beginning of November. they arrived 10 days later. I realized that I needed one more and ordered that on 11/24. It still has not arrived.

Now, once these arrive, I still needed to call Lobstergram and use my Discover certificate to order an certificate in ethe name of the person who i was giving it to.

Luckily, I could call Lobstergram directly, explain the situation and they had the capability to find the missing certificate from Discover in their system and place the order.

The Discover certificate STILL has not arrived.

I,ve used them quit alot and never had a problem with UPS.

Maybe it's just where I live then. I rarely get a package from them at the expected ship date. The company I work for has had some major problems with them where we've sent small packages for next day delivery and it would somehow end up taking three days (on more than one occasion). I know someone else who had to wait three months for his package to arrive because it was stuck in Florida for some reason. I live in New York.

Compare that to Fedex who almost always gets packages to me a day before it's expected ship date, and never later (even for shipments from California). That's why I always go with Fedex now.

My brother called last night to ask why I hadn't called to say thank you for the $$ he sent me for Christmas. I had no idea what he was talking about. He said that he sent me a check for $1000.00 for Christmas via Fed-ex and he tracked it and said delivered so why hadn't I called. I NEVER GOT IT!!

So I called the local fed-ex hub and asked where the driver put it. He said that he left it on my front porch beside the flower pot. Okay, are you serious??? I live in an apartment complex in downtown Jackson Mississippi where every single apartment has burglar bars on the windows and security doors and you just left a package on the front porch??? Did you attach a sign to it that said, "Hey, this lady isn't home, but here is a Christmas present just for you!!" What level of stupidity does it take to leave a package on the front porch of an apartment complex in downtown Jackson???

So I talked to the manager of the local hub and she says, "well, our policy is not to leave packages at an apartment complex period so I will handle that, but as far as filing a claim, if it wasn't marked for signature required then there is nothing that you can do about it."

My brother is calling the bank now to see if he can stop payment on the check but the other stuff (20 Disney DVD's that he sent my daughter) is just gone.

How horrible!! Isn't there automatic insurance on FedEx packages? I had to declare the value of my inlaws box and they put insurance on it then. Maybe the check hasn't been cashed yet and you could use the insurance for the movies?

The check hadn't been cashed and he was able to stop payment on it. His wife is going tomorrow to re-purchase all of the dvd's for my daughter and he is sending another check.. this time to my office.

I wish I could find the person who stole them though..... Oooooh I'm mad... but on the bright side, the ex-fed-ex driver (he was fired today) is paying for the dvd's and we were able to stop payment on the check.

Don't get me wrong, I HATE that that guy lost his job. I've lost my job before and that is the absolute worst feeling in the world and I don't wish that on anybody, ever, no matter how badly they screwed up, but I'm glad that Fed-ex is taking responsibility for my package.

I'm glad that things are going to work out! I didn't realize that FedEx's policy was that nothing was insured unless they had signature confirmation. That is good to know. I think that it's a stupid idea though, geesh they expect you to pay for everything don't they?

OMG! I am glad to hear that the person who stole your Christmas check can't cash it now. And I always make sure that I get things that need a signature when getting packages through Fed-Ex.

UPS and UPS/Walmart/ShopAmex fail again --

1. American Girl shipped my $ 500.+ order via UPS. It never made the arrival scan for the delivery hub. 3 days later, and several calls to American Girl and UPS, a man showed up at my office door with the box. It went to another building in our complex and the man opened the box with all of his promotional materials. Upon finding the shipping invoice with my correct office address, he very very kindly brought the box to me. UPS never figured it out, and 2 weeks later called me to ask was it still missing. I told them what happened in terms of the box being mis-delivered. No comment from them - not even a "sorry".

2. I ordered a 2GB Philips mp3 player from ShopAmex at the beginning of December, using a small part of my Amex points. I ordered online, filled in ALL of the required information, and lo and behold -- somewhere between ShopAmex and Walmart, they managed to combine shipping and billing addresses. I found this out when I went online to track the package. I called UPS, and they said I had to wait until it reached the delivery hub and then call before it got scanned out for delivery (which would be anytime from midnight on). If I missed the scan, chances were pretty high that the driver would just mark it "address unknown" and it would get returned, losing me the points, etc. 1 hour on hold with ShopAmex/Walmart later,

my points were supposed to be straightened out and a 2nd mp3 player was on its way to the proper address. So I went online and ...yep, you guessed it, a screwed up address yet again. Almost a full hour-and-a-half on hold through another combo call, a 3rd mp3 player was ordered; this one had no points associated with it, just a straight cost to me, as I found out when I went online to check up.

Well, the morning player #1 was due out, I got a call at home from UPS (was home due to snowstorm) - they were asking what address should have been used. I am apparently in their computer system.... Player #2 showed up several days later at my OLD office address - still in the same complex but another building and floor altogether. A former employee of ours e-mailed me that she had received a package with my name on it. Player #3 showed up the same day as Player #2, but to the correct address - my office.

Player #2 and #3 have finally been returned to Walmart.... my credits were processed correctly as far as I know - but it sure took a long time!

I shipped something out at the beginning of December via USPS. I asked the PO lady if I needed to purchase priority to make it in time for Christmas and she assured me it would make it in plenty of time. Soooo....Christmas Eve I emailed the person I was sending it to. (She purchased it from me as a gift for her husband.) She said she still hadn't received it. I checked the tracking number and it went from Illinois to Texas. I was sending it to Oklahoma. Then I kept checking the tracking number and it didn't budge for awhile. She finally received it yesterday.

With UPS Don't think you're going to get delivery even if it is marked for "signature only" delivery! A few months ago I ordered from Major Surplus & Survival. It was clothing that would come in a small 10x12 envelope type package, not a huge box or anything. They could not ship USPS to my post office box (I forget why not) so the next best choice (I thought!) was UPS marked SIGNATURE DELIVERY ONLY!!!!!!!!! Now any normal person would think that that would mean "if nobody's home DON"T DELIVER IT!". Right? WRONG! Not where UPS is concerned!!!!!!!!!!!!! A few days later, about the time the pacakge was due to arrive, we had an emergency out of town and I called the UPS terminal to ask how to "re-route" the package to where we'd be.

They said they couldn't do anything untill after the first delivery attempt, that it would come back to the terminal after the first try (since it would not be left since signature was needed) and then I could call them and have an alternate address used. Sounds simple enough and the website tracking is good, so I said okay.

BIG MISTAKE!

The next day (the sechduled delivery day) I checked the website... and instead of seeing that it was returned to the terminal for lack of signature... I see DELIVERY was MADE by LEAVING THE PACKAGE UNDER THE PLASTIC SHEET that was THROWN OVER THE GARBAGE CAN IN THE YARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After coming back home over a week later and finding my (wet, molded and mildew covered) package still clearly marked with it's Signature Required card, I called UPS to complain. Talk about beating your head against a brick wall for an hour!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems the driver has the "option" of LEAVING IT ANYWAY DESPITE THE LACK OF SIGNATURE!

:eyepoppin

Okay, before I explode any further I'll just say that Majors (the shipper) was just as surprised as I was and they were very good about the whole thing, offering to fully refund my money or ship again. That wasn't needed since a heavy dose of Clorox and Lysol and PineSol, (yes all 3) took care of the mildew and mold and I'm wearing the things just fine. But it's UPS I will never again trust.

UPS supposedly delivered a package to me on Wednesday(12/28) at 2:38pm. I didn't get any package, so I called. I was told it was left at the front door, I told them I was home all day and no package came. It's not like they can sneak up to the door either, we live in the woods, our driveway is pretty long and our dog ALWAYS lets us know when anything is coming. They didn't have a clue and told me I had to call the shipper(Nintendo) and have them call UPS to start the investigation process.

Here's the up side, I called Nintendo, told CS what happened. They told me that I would be getting a call with in 2 business days and that it would be taken care of. I thought that was pretty good. Not 1 minute after I hung up, no exageration either, Nintendo called back and told me they were going to be shipping out my order again today and not to worry about the UPS thing, they would deal with it. :):)

My huge issue was with the post office. I ordered from BestBuy 3 different times. The order I placed on 12/04 had issues, 5 of my items didn't make it out of the post office on time. They got to the post office on 12/06 and I didn't get them until 12/29. So, I can't really be mad at Best Buy; just the post office. To top that all off, the order I placed with BB on 12/15 made it to my house on 12/19.
