Are you as excited this year? With more stores opening on "Black Thursday"

This is just my Rant.

LOVE LOVE LOVE getting those sweet deals on Black Friday. I stress FRIDAY but now that stores open practically Thanksgiving "afternoon". I'm just not feeling as excited. The shopping bug will probably still bite me (I LOVE to SHOP lol) but right now I just feel like Black Friday is No Longer and not as exciting.

Maybe when Target, Walmart & Best Buy ads show up. I will feel different.

What do you guys think? How do you feel about it this year? As of now what time do you plan on heading out?

Nope.  I'm not excited at all, and that is a bummer.  I loved going out on Black Friday when you got up early and were there when the stores opened up at "5:00 a.m.".  Now it's just not as fun to me to have to rush through family time and Thanksgiving dinner to get deals that you can get probably cheaper two weeks before Christmas.

We'll still go shopping.  My younger sister works at JCP and will have to work that night, so it's not like we'll do anything family-oriented anyway.

Last year my younger sister worked as a cashier in a restaurant and had to work both Thanksgiving and Black Friday.  My dad also worked at a call center for Sprint and had to work Thanksgiving and Black Friday.  It's been this way for our family for a while.  We have a big Thanksgiving meal with family on Saturday now.

Mom and I will just bum around the house until it's time to go shopping and then head out.

I am not LOVING it either.  Looking to do most of my shopping on line since I will not sacrifice family time to go shopping even though I love it.  So sad :gdcry:

I may try online this year. We can shed tears together. lol

Usually I have to keep myself from doing any shopping this early but I'm just not feeling it at all this year.  The super early shopping times aren't helping the situation.  I'm sure that I'll still go out for some BF shopping but I doubt I'll be standing in line waiting for stores to open this Thanksgiving.

Saturday dinner sounds great but for our family Thanksgiving Thursday is the one day that everyone is off from work, school etc.. Happy Shopping!

My wife and I are not quite sure what we will do this year since we have no plans to go out shopping this year. I have been getting up early for the better part of the last 20 years. My wife started only in the last 10. Last year was really no fun with so many stores opening before midnight on thanksgiving night. I truly enjoyed the 5 am store openings. Especially here in Minnesota. The true die hard money savers were out. For me, it has nothing to do with spending time with family. I have worked in a hospital for almost 30 years and most of those years I worked on Thanksgiving. I just enjoyed the actual deals from a 4 am or 5 am opening versus the "deals" they are putting out when you don't have to work for it.

I am a little sad about it, but will still go out on BF and shop.  I feel like I probably won’t get all the stuff I want if the stores are opening Thursday evening, but it does mean the lines will be shorter by the time I get out there J  For the past couple of years I’ve had pretty good luck still getting all the stuff I want even if I go out a couple hours after the doorbusters start, so I’m hoping I have the same luck this year.   We’ve found that if we drive about 20 minutes to the next town over, the stores are a lot more calm and still have a good stock of stuff versus the stores in the main shopping plazas in our town, so hopefully the early opening times won’t affect that too much.   SIL and I normally head out around 3am BF but depending on when other stores start opening, maybe we’ll try to head out a little bit earlier…around 1am or so.  Just waiting for the rest of the ads to see how opening times play out, then we’ll make a game plan.

I'll probably try and do my black friday shopping on line this year.  Unless there are some big "wow"s with Wal-mart, Target or Kohl's, there isn't a whole lot of things that have interested me.  Maybe I'm just a "debbie downer" because of the earlier starting times.

Nope. Black Friday is ruined for me, because of these new times. It use to be a special girls day for myself, Mom, and my aunts. The deals were great, but that wasn't what it was ALL about for us. It was our tradition for 24 years. I miss heading out at 2am, standing in line with my cappuccino and their coffee, finalizing our attack plan, then going for breakfast after we landed our haul. I will buy what we need online with Amazon, and Bestbuy (like last year), and possibly we will head to Walmart, or our local mall when we are ready to go out.

I hate the early start times as well.  Having said that...Am I excited about Black Friday? You bet I am! Yes, we are having to change our game plan as we have the last 2 years and probably will again the next 2, but it's still the hustle & bustle and kicking off the Christmas season! I am so ready!

Also, I get excited about this time of year every year because of this site. I have so much fun reading all the forums. I follow GD all year for good deals (of course), but when the BF site is opened I feel like I'm reconnecting with old friends.  Even though I've never been one to post much, I feel like I "know" so many people here and I only get to catch up at this time each year :).

The only good thing about "Black Thursday" is that I won't be rushing around.  I'll stroll out of the house leisurely at 12am Friday and get my shopping done.  I'm guessing by then all the lines will have dissipated.  So in a way I'm excited but I don't like the new day before openings.

No! And, I'm bummed about it. I always joked about BF being my holiday =) But in all seriousness I would never give up Thanksgiving for it. I love shopping, the tradition of going out, the feeling of the holidays officially being here but not the craziness it is turning into. I will still go out and have a great time at my regular time on Friday and if I miss stuff I don't really care. The part that bothers me is that I have a choice and some don't. Some cannot just say so what if I miss a big deal because they might be on a very limited budget and the only way to give their kids Christmas is by bf deals. I can say I will just spend family time on Thanksgiving and go out at my leisure but some are being forced to work and in some stores the majority of the holiday and have no choice. For those saying that people should just get another job if they dont like it are CRAZY! They are working because they need it I'm sure and cannot just get another job. So what bothers me the most is that many are not thinking of others on the one day of the year where we are supposed to think about others the most! So I am sad for me that the Black Friday magic is fading but I'm more sad for others who have to lose out on the magic of Thanksgiving because of it...

I, like so many others, miss the early morning starts on Friday. It was a long tradition, 25 years, in our home and as the kids grew up they joined in  the crazy fun. Looking for that special deal, the standing in line with others, the mad rush to get the deal. Only the true bargain shoppers would get up in the middle of the night to be there, now you see a flurry of people come in the door the last 30 minutes trying to get the deal, they don't care about those who have waited a long time to get that deal. The crowds are immense, more than in the days before the Thursday opening times. I am doing more and more shopping from home, maybe we will start some new traditions such as all get on our computers to order the deals we want, then go out to eat and take in a movie. I would rather the country go back to honoring that day as a day to give thanks for what we already have and our families but alas it has probably changed forever. I still love GottaDeal for all the help you give to help a person plan and shop so that tradition will stay :gdclap:

I'll still go out, but it's kind of a "meh" for me this year.  Just too many companies scrambling for the once almighty dollar.  I too remember the "good old days" where the the crowds were civil and the stores handed out donuts and coffee to say thanks for coming out so early.  Now if you want the doorbusters, you have to give up Thanksgiving (and sometimes the whole Thanksgiving week) waiting in a line.  I remember spending the day with family, getting a chance to sleep off the turkey, and then getting up and heading out in the wee hours.  That was fun...not so much now.

I'll miss the traditions of getting up at 2am to get in line for stores to open, rushing like crazy, and trying to get to the next place. My mom and I have BF shopped since I was 15 years old..it's our "thing". This year, we'll be staying in our jammies at my house with laptops and iPads in hand and shop online. I'm just not excited about this year.

I am still excited about black Friday. I refuse to let these retailers who open on Thanksgiving ruin black Friday for me. YES, there is a chance I won't get my door buster whenI get to the store at 3am but I DONT CARE!! I haven't had that happen to me yet b/c I still get soooo many great deals and come home very satisfied with all that I got. If you choose to go to walmart then I say go for it! I went last year for a tv but came straight home and went to bed for a few hours. Yes I do feel bad for those employees who have to rush thru thanksgiving to be a work b/c all of us shoppers had a choice to not go or stay home with our family. I guess the employee has the same choice but they may lose their job. It would be nice if these employees got a good incentive for working on a holiday. I to also just miss the tradition of getting a good nights sleep and the stores not opening til 5am.

Yes, I miss the 5am opening.  It used to be my husband and I going out, shopping, and then eating breakfast.  Crowds are different now.  No more FUN or Christmas spirit.......a lot of stress and exhausted people.  I didn't see a lot of people smiling last year......sad.

I'm not going out this year.  The stores opening so early has ruined the fun of it.  Last year my Walmart was packed all day long with crazy people waiting for the sale to start.  My daughter and I went at around 6pm and you couldn't move in the store.  We left and came home and did our shopping online.  I imagine this year will be worse with the stores opening so early.  I only have a few things left to buy and I'm sure Amazon will have a deal on the things I need between now and Christmas so I'm not even bothering with all the crazy people this year.   Sad though because I used to love BF shopping!

I know our family is not as excited as in years past. We are hosting many family members this year for the Thanksgiving weekend and we won't be giving up Thanksgiving day to go shopping. I already told my husband that I'd like to go to bed and maybe get up at 4 and head out on BF for a few hours. I'm disappointed that things have changed. I'm glad that my kids are older so that I'm not waiting in the crazy toy lines.

I gave up years ago in trying to get any door busters on BF.    I'm from the old school of BF shopping where we could get in line about 2-3 am and still get door busters but as it got more and more popular with people lining up days before then it's just not worth it anymore.  I do still go out on BF but later in the morning after waking up at a normal time.   So, stores opening on Thanksgiving don't really affect me although I do feel bad for the employees and consider it just a sign of greed from the store's end.

ill go out but not until either late Thursday night / early Friday morning ... we eat around lunch time on thanksgiving but im not going to be one of those 5pm shoppers thats for sure on Thursday. I know people that work at these stores know that they will be working crazy hours but i dont agree with them having to come in on an actual holiday just so the store can make an extra buck.
