amberjobryant Posted October 11, 2009 Share Posted October 11, 2009 Ok what does everybody do in stockings?? my kids are in those twilight zone years where they are not really little kids but they are not teenagers yet, and in years past I have done candy and small toys, but I am wanting to start heading more towards things like bodywash, bodyspray, accessories, socks, boxers and that kind of stuff so what does everyone else do, I have a dd7 and dss10 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Iliveforblckfri Posted October 11, 2009 Share Posted October 11, 2009 I don't do gift cards unless they are for something the kids will use during the Christmas holiday..(Movie cards, fast food). When my kids were your kids age they always got lots of socks in the stockings. Go to the little toy section and pick up toys that you still love. Maybe my kids are lucky in this area, but I still love rubber bouncing balls and kooshes. Things little enough to fit in the stocking, but toys you never outgrow. Like do the girl's with all Hannah Montana stuff- lip gloss, socks, undies, etc. (or whomever) do the boys' with some other character. Or you could always use the stockings to do a miniature scavenger hunt for the large family gift or something like that. It would give the kids a chance to work together to solve a puzzle and it is something you could do every year no matter how old they get. My dad still sends my sister and I on a scavenger hunt every easter for a 20 or 50.00 egg. We are 23 and 26. We still love having the competitive side come out of us once a year. carheel Posted October 12, 2009 Share Posted October 12, 2009 ever since i can remember i would put in my kids stockings a new toothbrush and toothpaste, some type of little toy like playing cards or such. my girls i would give lip gloss and my boys chap stick, pencils or pens, candy and my girls hair stuff, and lotion, nail polish things they need body wash or body spray, there was a time i would buy all little toys but they would lose them before they made it into there room, oh i also gave them a little wallet a few times. now my kids are older 20,19,18 and 15 so this year my 15 year old will get a cd maybe one of those hand held games the little cheap ones. good luck Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I fill the same stocking for them every year since they each entered the family. They are all about 24" long. Everyone gets a large apple in the toe of their stocking. DD, I use things like eye mask, aloe socks from B&B, AVON eye makeup remover, a seek n find word puzzle book, gummy lifesavers and she loves sharpies. SIL chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate and this year a Star Wars trivia book. DGD whatever she it into that year. This year some art pencils, an artist eraser, dvd, stuffed animal and some other things. DGS, some little Fisher Price cars, a candy cane, board books and little stuffed animal. I plan on picking up for her chapstick, lip gloss, tooth brush, hand lotion, warm soft socks, cd, dvd, candy. DS is 3 so he will get small toys, dvd, candy, warm socks, gloves, toothbrush. I pick up: the usual trial size lotions and small colgnes also,car fresheners, fishing lures,hand warmers ( alot of outdoor sports during the cold) their favorite candy and fast food gift cards for the younger kids,lottery tickets for the adults. georgiapeach717 Posted October 12, 2009 Share Posted October 12, 2009 i love claires (its an accessory store in our mall here) for things like mini purses, keychains, hair accessories, nail polishes, body tattoos ,bracelets, anklets, funky knee high socks, ect. for boys, maybe try hot topic (another local store i dont know if you have in your mall) for wallets, keychains, buttons, cool mint boxes, belts, ect. good luck! Normally his stocking gets to be so heavy, I can't hang it back up when I am done, it has to sit on the floor. Does anyone wrap what they put in the stockings. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. My parents did it with me and my siblings so I do it with my kids. I try not to go overboard but, somehow, always manage to overbuy for all 3 kids:D Every stocking is different since there is such an age difference. DD18 gets make up, gift cards for fast food or movies, socks and a few pieces of candy. DS13 used to get match box cars but he's out grown those so I'll be putting some I-tunes gift cards, a can of Axe spray(he's noticing girls now..ughhh:eek:), maybe a gc or two for fast food and a few pieces of candy. DD9 will get some lip gloss/chap stick, some crayons or markers, some costume jewelry from Claires , and some candy. tn20 Posted October 13, 2009 Share Posted October 13, 2009 My kids' (DS7, DS3, DFS2, DFD2months) stockings aren't filled by me... they are filled by Santa, so it depends on what they asked Santa for that year. They usually get a Lifesavers StoryBook & some candies, but everything else is up in the air, depending on what they ask Santa for. Sometimes its something small... sometimes it is their biggest gift that year. Gifts are wrapped, candies are not. Anything too big to go in the stocking is laid on the floor below their stocking. DH fills my stocking with Christmas socks and Applets & Cotlets (my favorite candy, but I only get them on Christmas Day). I fill DH's stocking with Turtle candies (his favorite) and little hunting things or tools. My kids have huge stockings that I put movies, lip gloss, video games, DD 15 will be getting her class ring in hers this year. I lucked out at Target and picked up the HSM and Hannah Montana camcorders for my 2 little ones, those will be going in there as well. This year however, it looks like we are going to have to skip filling the stockings and concentrate on the gifts. Not alot of money to work with this year so I want to make sure what money we do have to spend on the kids' Christmas goes a long way. Going to try to skip the little not necessarily needed things (like the stocking things) and get them each a couple large gifts and thats about it. aleighc1 Posted October 14, 2009 Share Posted October 14, 2009 All my kids (their ages at Christmas will be 8, 7, 6, 3, and 2) will get toothbrush toothpaste bubble bath fun bandaids scotch tape (my kids love tape and always use mine up!) socks and underwear DVD (you can often find kids DVD's on sale on BF for $3-$7, and Walmart always has a cheap DVD section) flashlight yoyo (my 6 year old is the only one that asked for one, but I know if she gets one, everyone will want one) umbrella (same story as above, it one gets one, they will all want one) Then for my girls they'll get maybe a new lip gloss and small body spray, and my boys might get a couple of hot wheels I also have a baby that will be 7 months at Christmas, but he'll just get things like new snack bowls, gerber baby snacks, sleepers, etc..... I've gotten better over the years (right!). Usually I set a limit of $50, but I try to include some sort of "real gift" in there that is wrapped. One year I gave him a nice eel skin wallet. Some years it's a DVD or CD. The past few years he's become a coin collector so now the tradition is for me to put his silver coins that he gets into his stocking. It has gotten to be fun for both of us. I look forward to putting it together and as much as he puts on about not needing a stocking I know he likes it - he even does one for me now too!! For adults: small size coffee or hot chocolate packets,lottery tickets,a special pen (DH likes the G2),lottery tickets,upscale candy like Starbucks or Ghiradelli chocolates,those small bottles you get at the liquor store,a favorite magazine rolled up,bath goodies,good razors,cozy socks,gift cards to their favorite places (restaurants,book stores,movie theaters)really just about anything you can find at the Dollar Tree or Dollar Spot at Target. For children: they are so easy to please that their favorite candies,coloring books rolled up,little toys of most kinds will bring a smile to their faces. For tweens and teens: BREATH MINTS/SPRAY/GUM (they all think they 'neeeeed' these)-which are perfectly sized for stockings! This is a big hit too: go to dept. stores and pick up samples of colognes/perfumes (of course name brand is the key) and if they really love a scent,you have another gift idea ; of course gift cards to restaurants,movie places,tokens for Putt Putt game rooms,online music stores,earbuds,candy,slipper socks,anything with a favorite sports team logo on it. Personalized things make good gifts for the 10-12 y.o. kids. Believe it or not,the kids enjoy those pencils with their names on them like you get from Lillian Vernon et al. I also might get my almost 4 yr old twins a book each. This all adds up though so I was wondering does everyone put a cap on their stocking stuffers limits? DS does get a GC, either a Target, BB, or Visa one to use wherever and it is normally $25, unless I get one with my points from somewhere else, then it will be a different amount.
