You should be able to configure these pretty much anyway you want them. I just got a coupon in the mail today from my DPA account good for $50 off a $799+ system purchase. One-time-use only though.

I just got one. Not as much "base choice" as a month ago, but I got the money now and have the need with a recently died laptop (compaq)
Anyway... this might be able to be made better, but here's what I got. Build up system starting from the dell save750 page. Unlike a month ago, you NEED to start with one of these to get the big discount. There are more limitations this time (can't drop 1 year in home service and just have mail in warranty and save $35, can't get the 7200rpm HDD, etc.) Get your total over $1550. (Might work with total of $1500) You should already have the ~$49 free shipping discount. Apply the big $750 off code. You should have a total now over $799 (which is why I started with a total over $1550 rather than $1500) allowing the free shipping ~$49 discount to remain. Apply the Dell Home "electronics and accessories" $35 off >$300 and it works! (I am getting a rather plain laptop, no extra software nor accessories, etc. My $1550 was all hardware like WXUGA display and larger hard disk. In other words, I didn't get any "accessories or electronics" like cameras, cables, printers, etc.!) Anyway, this discount now shows up. I tried applying the $50 off when using Dell Preferred Account, but couldn't get it to be accepted while the $750 was in there. Hmm, -$750 or -$50?? I discarded this one. Apply the -2% Dell Preferred Account discount. This 2% discount shows up later when are at the last payment page. for Payment, sellect Dell Preferred Account. Apply if you haven't. I don't get the no-interest-if-paid-before Jan 2006. My interest rate is still over 21%. But I do get 20 days or so to pay in full and avoid any interest AND get the 2% (~$15) discount. Ok, that's the order and best stacking I could manage. Last edited by Insouciant; 5-24-2005 at 9:29 AM. |

Most of these "selected available base systems" will have the 1 year in home warranty... and this is what is forcing the "extra sales tax" that many haven't seen before on their Dell orders. Usually you get the configurable/customize option to just go to 1 year mail in warranty but not with this deal. So this is a double whammy for me ($35 mandated extra cost for in-home and same again for tax). But it still works out to a great deal for me.
Thanks for the welcome. I've been lurking for a long time.... you have such good deal info I never had anything to add before. PS. could one of you Admins edit my UserID to capitalize the first letter? It lets me log in as Insouciant but only shows insouciant. I know vBulliten will allow this (but I can't do it myself). Thanks. |
