For $50, you can get a brand new one of the newest model. What happens to the old models?

I was just wondering how well the refurbished ones are though? I am looking for a new mp3 player.. mine (a RCA) took a dump last night at the gym... I want an ipod... but looking around.

I went ahead and bought one. My hubby has the 30g one with video and is always raving about his, so I figured the nano would work out fine for as much as I will use it. It holds 500 songs, which is plenty for me.

I was just poking around and it looks like you can get a 4 gig ipod mini for $99 too, or a 6 gig for $129. If you don't want the latest and greatest that's an option too. They have a bunch of colors too. Here's the 4 gig silver Ipod mini

Those of you that got these, what packaging do they come in? Seems like a good price for a gift, if it doesn't look tacky.

If I were going to trust a refurb, it would definately be one from Apple I think.

Edit: You still get a 1 year limited warranty with these. That is really good for anything refurbished.

I bought one last thursday night, it came Saturday afternoon. I was shocked...super fast shipping for free! It comes in the normal apple box and it is packaged as though it is brand new. The cords and earbuds are brand new. I couldn't tell that anything was refurbished. Very impressed : )

I purchased the same 2GB Ipod (refurbished). Just got it in the mail a little while ago and it came in a boxthat says Apple Refurbished. It does not look like a brand new box you would see in the stores. It is going to be a gift but I am going to repackage it.

Can I just add a little food for thought here after reading. For jogging, working out, kids, preteens etc..The ipods are not the best as they are more hard drive based and don't take well to knocking around. This thru experience. You'd be better off getting a flash based mp3 player. The perks of those also..no docking, runs on batteries, more download capabilities and they aren't so delicate to use. Ipods are ok, but overhyped by name.

The iPod nano IS flashed based. If I were going to have one, it would actually be the nano just for that reason. There is no hard drive to be knocked around.
