I am looking for a USB 2.0 Flash drive that requires a fingerprint to be able to access it.
I would want to also be able to run a simple program on it too. This will be used to store a program that keeps information such as passwords and e-mail addresses on it. I am hopping to spend around $50-$100 on it. Any ideas where to go? |

 Unique request. I didn't even know such things were available. After looking around, it looks to me like your best bet is this Sony USM-128C 128MB Micro Vault at Buy.com for $84.92 with free shipping. Seems to have everything you want. For price comparison, check out Pricegrabber and you'll see Buy.com is the cheapest. Amazon has it for $110. More Info From Sony

Is this Sony micro vault plug & play?
I hate USB flash drives which require special drivers/software to be installed. |

I'm guessing that for normal use it would be plug & play, but if you want to use the fingerprint recognition features, it might require special software. I'll look and see if I can find more info.

From that review: "The flash drive's storage is set up in two partitions, one public and one secure. When you first insert the device in your PC's USB port, only the public partition mounts. Password or fingerprint authentication is required to mount and view the resizable secure partition." So the stuff you put on the public partition would mount like a normal plug & play drive. Read the review for more info - there is Windows Explorer and IE integration as well as standard file protection.

Very nice find. I feel comfortable to know it is a Sony product and that PCMag has a good review of it.
Anyone see a reason not to buy this item? 128 MB should be more than enough for what I want to do with it. I couldn't find out if there was the option to allow the stick to run small programs... I plan to run a password database program from sourceforge on the stick, and then have a password to access the database, and then a fingerprint to access that information. |

sounds good bobby. buy.com had such a nice price on it that i posted it today on the main site as a regular deal. hopefully they don't sell out before you can order (doubtful, unless all the other deal sites copy the deal as they've been known to do lately
)

Yay, just placed the order for this. $15 more until I get the Seagate 200 GB ATA Internal Hard Drive
Too bad it isn't 89.99 w/out rebate
