OK, we are seeing wayyyyyy too many threads asking "where can i find a wii?", "does anyone have wii's on sale?", "will there be wii's on sale on black friday, cyber monday, christmas, easter, flag day, etc...?"

So this is it. I've merged as many threads I could find into this one thread. Keep all "finding a Wii" talk in this forum.

If you post another threads, we're going to delete it. We're not even going to merge it into this one. It's quicker to delete it, so keep everything in this thread and we won't have a problem. Got it? :)

And don't forget, we're giving a Wii away in mid-December right here on the forum. See here for details: http://forums.gottadeal.com/showthread.php?t=86202

RULES FOR THIS THREAD (effective immediately):

1. No offering to sell or buy Wii's to/from other forum members.
2. No links to eBay auctions.
3. No discussion of re-selling Wii's on eBay or elsewhere.

This thread is just for finding Wii sytems (or bundles) at retail stores or online retailers at regular price or less.

Anyone who cannot follow these rules will be permanently banned from the thread.

Just wanted to let you know that in my morning paper today, Target, Meijer and TRU are advertising Wii's for $249. I just left to get mine at Meijer (limited 10 per store), and got one. The other ads didn't mention how many were available. I'm in Louisville, Kentucky, so I don't know if its nationwide or just here. Just wanted to pass it along.

UGH! I just picked up my paper, and I didn't get a Big Toy Book or a Kmart ad!!!

DD18 works at Target. I dropped her off this morning before her shift started at 8. There were no less that 15 people (probably more) waiting in line. She says there are NEVER that many, two maybe three. It wasn't even 8 yet. I got her there at 745am. She said she's glad she doesn't work in electronics with the Wii and guitar hero in the ad today.

Me too. Wii's around here are still pretty hard to find during the week - so I wanted to make sure I had one come Christmastime - especially since I knew it wouldn't be a BF item.

My niece just told her mother Fri night that she wanted a Wii for XMas. Big panic over the fact if we could get one or not. Sat morning a light bulb went off in my head, "call Planet X to check" as there is one in the mall where my daughter works. Called they had 4 in stock. As I was dropping my daughter off I noticed a GHame Stop (Polanet X is owned by same Compnay). Went in and got one. The clerk said he had gotten the shipment late Fri night. I then went to Planet X on the lower level and scored another one! II just foubd out htat my almost 17 yr old daughter is interested in Wii. Boy was I lucky!

If you have an extra I am sure you will be able to unload it to someone during the holiday season. I have been tempted to pick one up even though I have had one for some time but then I don't believe in making a profit on someone trying to buy a gift for their kid.

I've been seeing them quite often around here too. I notice that if I see them one day, they are almost always gone the next. Glad I went ahead and picked one up last month. I'm sure it will only get worse as Christmas gets closer.

No luck at Toys R Us or Circuit City this morning. The guy at TRU said that people were in line at 8 AM yesterday for them to open at 9 AM. They anticipate that people will be camping out for a Wii by the time Christmas gets here. Circuit City said that we could call them in a couple of weeks to check for availability.

We stopped by Target just as a last shot - they had several. The sales person said that they got in 50 for yesterday's ad insert. We also opened a Target charge account which saved us 10%. We bought the system, charging station, WiiPlay with extra remote, and silicone sleeve set - after the 10%, it was $329.09. I was doing the happy dance the rest of the morning!

We were the crazies several months ago that waited in line at Walmart to get one at midnight - we got one and then after that i see them everywhere. I am sure we will have a "shortage" again the closer to Christmas. It was definately worth the wait. the whole family plays it from 4 year old son to 54 year old grandpa!! 4 year old has to fight with dad to play sometimes. lol

Is it better to buy this thing at a wal-mart, tru or target...

I think Wal-Marts extended warranty is cheaper than all of the rest of the other stores if that makes a difference. I paid $18 for 2 extra years I think. A post on one of the other Wii threads (I think in the Deal Discussion area) has a list of the warranty terms and prices for each store. I do know Wal-Mart is the cheapest.

Otherwise I don't think it matters except that sometimes you TRU will have a coupon you could use (check their website they post their coupons there) or if you open a Target account you will get 10% off your first purchase.

The plan was to get to Walmart on Saturday night at midnite but my husband fell asleep and I was the designated driver for a bachelorette party so I couldn't get to Walmart until 3am - needless to say they were already gone. Both stores within 5 miles of me sold out by 12:10. I was told they are expecting 20 more though so I need to keep checking back with them, but I keep getting conflicting stories as to how they get their stock. One manager told me via UPS the other one told me it comes on the truck, anyone have any good guesses or insider information?

It really isn't about allowing ... Stores make virtually no money off the sale of the Game Systems. They buy them at pretty much the same price we would and sell them in the stores. When I used to work at Media Play, we were offered no discount on any game system, because then they would be losing money. Microsoft and Sony are already taking a hit for every system they sell. The cost to manufacture and distribute them are actually HIGHER than what they initially sell the system for. When they start gaining efficiencies in hardware and software, then the price goes down.

Sony and Microsoft both have switched the hardware inside of the systems already to more efficient and cost effective processors, which in turn have allowed them to reduce the price of the system. The negative aspect now, is that there is so much change within the same system, the real winners will be the people who wait to purchase the next generation technology later on in the game. The PS3 and Xbox 360 are already on newer versions of their own hardware, and run cooler and are more energy efficient (which also means less prone to overheating) This in the long run, make the cheaper, newer systems out last their predecessors by leaps and bounds!

As with the Wii, the hardware inside cannot really be considered Next Gen. Without full 1080 HD support, they created a new system using old technology. Nintendo just focused more on the inclusion aspect of gaming. It is a fad that they can hopefully ride a little longer, and since the hardware is already present, the cost can be kept low.

The only way I can see people saving money, is to purchase the system somewhere online, where you will not have to pay sales tax. This would be the same as saving $20 on the WII or $40 on the PS3 ... think of the price of the system at the end-all-be-all price.

I just tried calling 4 different Targets in my area. None of them had wiis in stock and none of them knew when they would be coming in. I am hoping that they are just being tight lipped about them being on sale on Sun. Do you know if Target's sales are the same nationwide?

I do not know if it will be any cheaper due to Nintendo rules however they might have a special bundle pack.. For anyone still looking for a Wii try Gamestop. I went on Friday morning and the manager told me they had none in stock but checked on his computer and told me that a shipment was due that day or the next day and to call him at around 12 o'clock I did and he told me that UPS just left and he had one and was nice enough to hold it the fifeteen mintues while I raced over there.

This is so odd to me as all of our stores are stocking this and no one in our area is having a hard demand for them. Our economy here took a very hard hit though recently so perhaps it's the fact that with games it's a $300.00 setup.

it's definitely not about the price. they are hard to find and only going to get harder as nintendo has already announced shortages due to unexpected demand. if they are advertised in the store flyer, it means they are expecting a shipment and you should plan to get there when or even before the store opens on the first day of the advertised sale.

This is how we got ours. Got up early on Sunday, about a month ago. Circuit City had them in their ad, so DH and I wend about 2 hours before the store opened. We were number 2 in line and they only had 15 in the store. What a relief!!!:D

I hope that each of you finds a wii system. I got up one morning at 2 am last year (about this time) and went and stood in line at our local Target for this game system the day it was released for my ds Christmas present. Everyone thought I was crazy... even I wondered if I was crazy. He loved it though, so that made it worth it... I can't believe it is still so hard to find one.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE.

I got mine at a GameStop today. There are 15 GameStops within 45 minutes of me and I have been calling them all everyday! I happened to hit the right one at the right time today. Worker who answered said he just got 9 in and he would hold one for me if I could be there within the hour. I got there and he had held it and all the other ones were gone. The customer in front of me was buying one, so I think that last one would have been left anyway. What a relief to check that one off the list.

11-8-2007, 5:03 PM
I am beginning to wonder if the high demands are due to the fact that the stores are stockpiling them. This way they become more rare and a bunch of people who do not even want them rush out and buy them all up only to put on ebay in hopes of making a few bucks. There will probably be thousands on ebay right before Christmas. All while the rest of us suckers, who are spending day and night searching so that our children can have the one thing that they are asking for on Christmas morning go absolutely insane!!!!!! Its kind of funny, I try to keep my children focused on the real meaning of Christmas and here I am 2 months before glued to the computer and the phone in search of this year's Holy Grail. I event have family in search all over New England. The things we go through for our kids.....Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
Few I feel better now. Sorry I just need to get that out! Anyone else feel as frustrated as me? Really, I am not insane! lol

There were a few at a best buy here in Atlanta, the Buckhead store. They went fast too. Luckily i had already gotten my nephews or that lady would have been pissed, because I was just checking out the new packaging for the Wiimote.

yea, to get that Wii off my list was a relief. it was like a stakeout, me and my girlfriend holding our front parking spot in a stealth all black 300. Then me jumping out at the first site of someone trying to be first. Reminds me of the stores my mom would tell me when she tried to get my things for Christmas. The lines, the tactics, and the madness. i guess it's my turn.

No, you are not insane. That is the point that bothers me the most. People who horde them make me crazy. I searched high and low for a wii since last July and finally found one last week at Gamestop. Hopefully my DS will think it is worth the trouble this holiday season.

Yep, unexpected. A GameStop manager/video game geek told me that one of the other systems (don't remember which one) was expecting to release a lot of new, hot games and when their release date was pushed back to after Christmas, the demand for the Wii shot through the roof.....

Just my 2 cents..

The thing that really sucks for me is not being able to tell a customer when we'll have them in stock. I don't know how other chains do it, but at WalMart the bulk of our games & systems come direct from the supplier via UPS instead of our own distribution centers. As a result, we can only tell if it's on order. For most items, we can see how many have been pulled for us at the warehouse, and how many are in transit. Until we're able to stockpile Wii's and hold them in our warehouses (for nice 3 day turnaround from on-order to in-stock), we'd be lying to customers if we knew when we'll have them in stock unless their advertised in the circular.

HD is just not that important currently. Next generation yes, definitely; they'd be stupid to skip HD at that point. But right now HDTV penetration is still so low it's not really worth the extra cost for a feature most users can't utilize. That's why they've chosen alternative, more affordable, and arguably more inventive routes to counter the competition. THAT is the definition of "next gen".

My father in law finally found one for me at a gamestop in NH yesterday. When he called to tell me I was driving like a mad women trying to get to a gs about 20 miles from my house. When I called they only had 3 left and the manager wouldn't hold one for me. The relief was overwhelming!!! I wanted to have a party!! So my suggestion is that if you are looking for one ask family members that live in remote areas go check out their local stores for you. Especially if you know anyone in NH. Apparently the demand up there is not that high, at least not in the Dartmouth region. Good Luck!!!

All I can say, is that I hope the people hording them and selling them on eBay are doing their taxes right. Not only is it wrong to exploit things like that from an ethical point of view, but continuing to make big bucks tax free will bring the long arm of the IRS right into eBay and make things tougher and less private for everybody. Not in this "me first" society though, where people place making a buck ahead of any greater concerns.

Saying this, my son has somehow learned that my mom has three Wiis stashed in the trunk of her car, so I suspect my kids are going to be gifted some Wii goodness from ol' grandma who somehow found a few.

finally ordered mine yesterday for the kids. As for the grandma thing, grandma's rock lol!! Just ask my kids they'll tell ya. This year is going to be harder for her since Santa is bringing the Wii!! Poor mom has to hide all of the goodies she accidentally bought and THANK GOD Santa brought my kids a Wii *wink wink* so she didn't have to bring it all back.

I seem to find them quite frequently at my Target. It's the only store in the area that doesn't sell out within hours of getting them. I've even seen them in stock 4 days later!

I was told that Toys R Us had them for sale Sunday 11/11. My store had 21 units to sell. I know Target also is getting them tomorrow morning.

I have finally decided to get one; I will hit Target at 8am and try to get it there. I decided I can change my mind and return it later but it will be much harder for me to find next month.

I didn't wait and bought Guitar Hero III (Wii) yesterday. Figure this game is going to be hard to come by around Christmas time. The game is a blast! It is a little tough, my 8yr DD and myself have some difficulty, but my 12yr DS of course is doing great at it. If your on the fence about this game for a present I'd highly suggest it. It really is a lot of fun!

E-town, haha, small world.

I've bought 2 Wii's at Walmart in Elizabethton and 1 at Gamestop in JC. I kept one, sold another to a coworker, and the 3rd is for my GF's sister's kids.

Walmarts in small towns usually don't sell out of them too fast. I see them at Walmart about every other week.

Ethically wrong? Is it ethically wrong for an antique dealer to charge a high price for a piece of original Stickley furniture? It is simple supply and demand, the basis of capitalism. You act as if the people selling them on ebay stole them before putting them up for sale. The people who have them had to spend the time tracking them down, going to the store to buy them, listing them on ebay, dealing with potential buyers, and getting them shipped out. Sounds like they earn the money they make off them. However, if you check out ebay right now, the systems are going for about what they cost, so all that effort is pretty much wasted. That's another thing, they're risking their money, betting that the systems will be hard to come by and people will be willing to pay more. If they are wrong, they stand to lose money, it's similar to the stock market. Do you have money invested in the market, is it ethically wrong?

The thing about taxes, well, you're right. That is unreported income.

Ethically wrong?

The essence of my problem with it is that these deals sometimes represent a great way for someone to get something they may not otherwise be able to afford. I would much prefer for something to be unavailable because the person got there too late than all of them being taken by speculators hoping to turn a buck on eBay. My words may have been too strong on the point, but I happen to think that real businesses don't resell products purchased at big-box stores. They deal with real distributors or manufacturers directly.

The thing about taxes, well, you're right. That is unreported income.

Now we get to the real deal here. I saw BF deals all over eBay last year. There is no ethical case to be made for buying something and selling it that day/next day if you aren't a real business or going to claim that money as income. Under most law, you have become a sole proprietor once you start selling products/services, I believe. That means you need to claim that business income. I've had people argue that it is "just business", yet they aren't really a business and are trying to hide the income. That's not "business." That's illegal.

Your words were fine, not too strong, I just disagree. As far as someone not being able to afford these deals at other times, I really believe if they want something bad enough, they'll find a way. They'll get in line really early, earlier than people who are buying to resell. On an item such as a Wii, they'll research the best way to get one (as others have mentioned), they'll call stores and ask when shipments arrive, etc. It just takes effort, but if they're not willing to put forth more effort than those who are buying just to resell, then I can't really have pity on them.

This is just my personal opinion, since I've already agreed with you that unreported income is not legal, but the income tax is a rip. I understand we have a need for taxes, they pay for many things we use everyday, I just don't think an income tax is the right way to go. Mainly because it punishes you for working harder or trying to do more. You work overtime, you have to give up more money. You spend your free time coming up with ways to make extra cash, you have to give more money. How does that motivate people to do better? A sales tax on nonessential items is the way to go. Housing, food, etc. should be exempt, but everything else should have a heavier tax. That would allow people to keep what they have earned, as long as they are not wasteful with it. It just seems like a much better idea to me. That's why I have no problem with someone not reporting extra income on the side. They put in extra effort, they shouldn't be penalized for being creative or working harder.

What all this has to do with a Wii, I have no idea, haha. So I won't clutter the thread anymore. :)

We got ours from Gamestop as well. We have a few in driving distance and my motivated 8-yr old had a list of them with phone numbers. Our local Best Buy told us back the first of November that the Wii's they had in the back were all that they would be getting until after Christmas. I guess because of the demand they are rationing them to each location. I think they only had 8 left then. They were not on sale, just the regular $249 price. We went ahead and purchased one, I'm afraid they are going to be limited everywhere! However, I saw a post or ad somewhere that indicated Wii bundle packs would be on sale BF (not the unit itself, but some accessory items.) Hope this info helps a little.

By years end 16 million units worldwide will be bought, making it the number one console of its generation. I was at the WillowBrook Mall last night in Jersey and FYE had them sitting in the floor under the games that they had hanging on the wall. Now it was just the boxes but I did ask the cashier and he looked at me funny and said yes we have them.

They dont seem to be that hard to find here in Northern Jersey.

I was in BB yesterday to return something and someone came in and asked if they had any. The salesperson looked over the counter @<hidden> customer service and said "no, we had over 40 but they are gone" Then he spoke to someone on his walkie talkie and they said that they still had 3. The lady got one and I got one for a friend. They did say that they will ahve more for Sunday and BF.

My Walmart in Mobile, Al got some in Thursday. I went there like I always do just to check. I walked up and a man was telling the other man, both worked there, to move the stuff over in the cases to make room for the WIIs. I said you got Wiis???? He said yes, but it would be like 30 minutes before they brought them out. I said no problem, I've only waited a YEAR. I stood and the man brought them over with in 10 minutes. I got the first one!!!!! There was like 5 other people behind me.

LOL

I don't think the man ended up having to make to much room. I bet they were all gone with in a hour! They said they had 20 of them.

I honestly didn't realize these were still so hard to find. On Thursday, I just walked into my local Walmart (Huntsville, AL) and told the guy in electronics that I wanted to buy a Wii and he pulled one out from under the counter. They had about 10 boxes in their locked display case, but he didn't take one from there. I guess I got really lucky this time--usually I'm one of the people searching all over at the last minute for something.

I just called TRU and the guy said they are getting them in tomorrow, but he said there would only be 15. :( I don't know if I will have a shot at getting one. I also was at Kmart today and the guy said they would have them sometime after thanksgiving and that they haven't gotten any in since 3-4 weeks. Which makes me wonder if they are even going to have them Thanksgiving day or BF. It is in there ad but I know how Kmart is, they don't stock for sales as most people have found out recently.

My TRU in Rockaway, NJ had about 190 this morning. My MIL was 13th. on line at about 6:00 this morning , when I called her on her cell at about 7:30 she said there was about another 40 people behind her. It was snowing here so they gave people tickets and let them wait in an indoor section of the store, they were letting them in 10 at a time. She was out of the store by 8:30 with Wii in hand.

My TRU got in 70 yesterday as well. I got there right when they opened to get some of the games and was dissapointed that the selection was blown out as soon as they opened. I can see them maybe being out of stock on the Mario Galaxy game since it was popular last week but they had nothing recent and mainly just the cheapo unpopular games. The guy said they will being getting more so hopefully I'll have better luck later this week.

Getting back to the Wiis though, they ran out about 30 minutes after opening but it was very organized. The manager who was nice enough to ring me up seperately so I didn't have to wait in the wii line said they won't be getting more for Black Friday and probably not again until the second week of december. I know there are probably going to be a lot of unhappy people Friday who planned to get it then.

There are some WII tracker sites out there that you can keep an eye on. I found one at Amazon last week for a friend that way. They track the major websites and update when someone has one in stock and the price. Keeps you from searching all the sites yourself. Google "wii tracker" and you will see some sites to check.

I got mine by calling Walmart the next morning after I decided to get one...They told me to call every day between 10:30am and 12:30 pm to see if their truck came in. When I called, they had gotten 25 in store, not sure if it was 25 boxes (x3per box), or 25 wii's. It was the original console box with the 1 wiimote, etc. for $249. If you are in a busy town, try the outskirt towns and call them! :) Good luck!

He couldn't have been just barely 16, and apparently drew the short straw for the electronics department. The poor kid was almost in tears, and when the women were yelling at the manager, the manager looked at him and told him to get out of the department, but he was going to be speaking with him first. I was so upset!! I searched out the manager before I left, and told him what happened. The manager said I saved that boys job this morning. I felt so bad for the kid. It is kmarts fault they didn't stock, not the employees. I guess it was just an easy target for the women, picking on a mortified young kid!

I went to our kmart at 4 am this morning and was the 7th person in line. they had eight wii's available. instead of checking with the people in line to see who wanted a wii and letting the first eight have them, kmart decided to do a lottery drawing for them that would take place an hour after the store opened. needless to say i did not get one through the drawing. i drove 70 miles in the snow to make sure i had a decent chance to get one for my girls and kmart stole that away. in their advertisement it states "Limited quantity. No rain checks." it clearly implies a "first come first served" basis. NOWHERE does it talk about a lottery drawing. that was sprung on people by a sign on the door.
