View Full Version : Can you have two AMEX cards?

Or is there a good reason to? I recently applied for a received an AMEX Blue card (~2 months ago) because they had a 0% interest on purchases until next spring and I wanted to use it to help with a larger purchase and pay it off over the next couple of months. I don't use it for anything else, and my "daily" card is a Citibank Dividends card, and I don't see any real advantage to using any other credit card. Anyway.....I received in the mail yet another credit card offer, but this is one from mbna|amex that has a snazzy logo of my alma mater. Now.....if I were given the choice between the two AMEXs I would love to have the one with the logo. Heh, actually, I would love to have the citi dividends card with my school logo, but I don't think it works that way. Sooooo.....I guess one question is is it worth it to have two identical "brands" of cards? Would it be possible to or worth it to cancel the first one? Heh, could they "reissue" the one I already have with the one with a logo, or doesn't it work that way?

In all likelihood, I'm probably going to be lazy, not apply for the branded one, and that'll be the end of it. Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts. Thanks!

Let me get this straight you want another Amex cc just because of the snazzy logo?

I've had two cc's from the same company, no problems at all. If you really want it, go ahead and apply.

Yeah, but...it is my understanding that the more open credit cards you have, the worse it impacts your credit rating. This is true, I believe, even if you have zero balances and pay all amounts due in full? Go figure!

Let me get this straight you want another Amex cc just because of the snazzy logo?Ross? Are there any credit cards with no finance charges or annual fees?

Heh, yeah its pretty much just because of the logo. I actually probably wouldn't use it at all anyway....I get better rewards from the citi card, and I don't use it enough to build up travel points or anything. The rate seemed alright, but that isn't really an issue either. I don't think I want to mess with the hassle and extra record keeping of having two AMEX cards open anyway. Thanks for all the advice!
