caitlinn 10-17-2007, 5:43 PM * I did a search and found this under a thread listing many different sites. I couldn't find one specifically for this company...hope this is okay!!!
I just got an email from them saying that I was accepted and that I have a product test on the way!! Looks like they're still accepting applications...
The New Balance Wear Test Program
Our paramount goal at New Balance is to design and manufacture the best possible athletic shoes and apparel. You can help us reach this goal by putting our products to the test through the Wear Test Program. This crucial program collectively engages consumers, designers, product managers and manufacturing associates throughout the product development process. The Wear Test Program requires testing products under real life conditions. We believe that subjecting our product line to rigorous field testing ensures that all of our products perform at their peak—so you can too.

* Please review all of the information on this site before proceeding with the registration process.
* If you received a yellow postcard asking you to re-register, begin the process by selecting 'Become a Tester' at the top of the page. You must create a new account; no information from your existing account will be carried over from your current account. In other words, you do not exist in the online database until you create and submit a new online application.
* If you received more than one yellow postcard, complete and submit only one (1) application.
* Once your application is submitted, it will be reviewed and evaluated. If your application is accepted, you will receive an email with further details.
* Some categories are not currently accepting new applications, including Kids. Re-registration for the Kids program will likely start in a few weeks.
* Each adult applicant must have their own unique e-mail address; the system will not allow multiple applicants to share a single e-mail account.

Shortness 10-18-2007, 12:00 AM So, they are saying that their own measuring (PDF) chart is not enough, but you still have to use it to measure, then you have to go in and have it professionally done at a shoe store? Is this how you guys are doing it or are you just using their measure chart?
Mommy2Four 10-18-2007, 1:52 AM It is important to note you will NOT compensated in anyway for your participation in a test beyond the use of the test product for the duration of the test period.
You cannot keep the test products beyond the end of the test period because all tested products must undergo a visual inspection by the NB Wear Test team and may be submitted to laboratories for more tests. We store tested products for several years for reference and research purposes..

I think I will pass on this one. What a rip off!

I don't think it's a rip off..you get to try a new product, and your regular shoes don't get any wear for several weeks...
scrabbler 10-18-2007, 7:58 AM I also thought it made perfect sense that they wanted the shoes back to see how they wear and what condition they were in.
Thanks op!

I understand that they want the shoes back but I also think there should be compensation for ones time. JMO

I do understand what you are saying.
However, my dh is on his feet constantly and if he is accepted and is able to try some other shoes without us purchasing them, that is already a win for us.
He has tried shoes from 100-over 200 in price. Unfortunately you never know how they will stand up when you are actually putting them to the test.
So extra compensation is not necessary for us personally because we would get the chance to try something without any payment.

i totally agree.
theboyzmom 10-18-2007, 9:38 AM filled it out, worth a try!
jeskew 10-18-2007, 8:38 PM giving it a try. It would be nice to use some new shoes for awhile and help my current ones last longer
jarerice 10-20-2007, 9:44 AM Thanks, I gave it a shot!

I see it how you do. It isn't really requiring any effort, and my kiddos would love it. It would be nice to be accepted and it's great that we'd get to wear the product. It's like borrowing someone else's shoes and putting the wear and tear on those instead of what we have paid for. :)
I signed up my two youngest. I'll see if my dh wants to try.
dylsar 10-20-2007, 6:12 PM Thank you so much, i love New balance

Shortness 12-4-2007, 5:46 PM We just got our first pair today for dd11. Woo Hoo! Neither of us care that we have to send them back. She has a brand new pair of shoes for awhile. It's all great for us! She is happy to be a "researcher"... ;)
tiredmom214 12-4-2007, 5:57 PM I applied awhile back, haven't heard anything. The way my kids go through shoes we could definitely use this.

mom2monkiesx3 12-23-2007, 3:35 PM Thanks I signed up me and my 3 youngin's with 2 boys in the house I am always buying shoes !!
Anyone have to try clothing yet? I am looking foward to that but I am sure they won't pick me :(
LoveNcMountains 1-9-2008, 11:33 AM I got my shoes yesterday...I was very excited. I gave them a test "run, walk, jog, climb" on the treadmill this morning.
I look at it like it is a month I don't have to put wear on my shoes too. I TRY and jog 5 days a week for atleast 3 miles, now my normal running shoes will last a month longer.
They sent me BLACK sneakers, and it says to wear them all the time (unlike my running shoes which I only wear running) so this is good. I have black jeans and these look better with them, although they look stupid with shorts, Color shorts my blinding WHITE legs, white socks, black shoes.
Shortness 1-9-2008, 12:50 PM The shoes they sent my dd were a little big on her, so I ended up wearing them the most... They are seriously wide. She wears a wide, but these are really wide. And a little long. She wore a 3 when we measured for these, now she is in a 3 1/2. These are a 3. My ds's seem really narrow... I don't know that they are so comfy, as he doesn't seem to want to wear them.
The pair my son got were a bit long and a lot on the wide side, however he has grafts on the bottom of both his feet so he is in Heavan with shoes that are wide. We did note on the info sheet that they were really wide for the normal wearer and that they were to long. Ethan is not looking forward to having to send them back.
mstamper 2-23-2008, 11:05 AM I got mine in today. I had been eyeing these shoes in the store!
.The tested shoes are inspected immediately upon return to NB at the conclusion of a test, and then kept for a minimum of 2 years, during which time they are frequently referenced for research and quality assurance/verification purposes. After that, some/many of the shoes are donated, en mass, to charity, while some portion of the shoes are retained in the wear test shoe library. (Just the other day, we pulled about 50 pairs from the library from tests conducted in 2001! )
Even if we chose to try to annually reunite 10,000+ test shoes with their testers from 2 years earlier, we know that most testers would not be interested in getting these old shoes back. There are additional reasons behind our decision as to why we donate the tested shoes to charity as the last step in their lifecycle, and I won't go into all of them here but I can say that I this is something the company is committed to and of all our options, this is the one we feel is the most socially responsible in that it does the most good for the greatest number of people.

Shortness 4-27-2008, 8:35 PM We are late (again) sending Dd12's back. We don't want to, as she and I both love these shoes. They're so cool. She hates girly, and they're not girly at all. She wore them every day...
I want to be a test wearer, but I wear kids' sizes. :( I don't think they'd accept me as a kid, being 38 and all...

So, you signed yourself up as a kid or were able to put your age and get kid sizes? I admit I ended up wearing the first pair dd got more than she did, as they were too big and pink-which she didn't like. ;) I'd love to sign myself up though.

I signed myself up as an adult and gave them my size. They sent my length but one size too small in width.
I have to email them. I am sooo screwed. I had mine in my gym bag. I made my rounds all over town. Place to place. Using several different buses. Got home that night got everyone washed and to bed. Long story short the next day my appendix burst I ended up in hospital until the following Monday. I now can't find my gym bag. I can't remember coming home with it. I don't remember the last place I had it. I called all the places I was that day including the bus company. No one has my bag. I'm gonna have to pay a whole lotta money I don't have right now. *sigh* I'm afraid to email them and tell them.

Man... You have not had it easy. Sorry about your appendix. I know that's really bad when it bursts.
Hopefully they'll be easy on you. I would just explain everything. Last time I was really late just because I forgot--with everything going on with ds and school. They ended up hunting me down and were pretty nice about it. Good luck with it all. Sorry you've been sick.
Yahoo we just received a pair of cleats for Ethan to test, I wonder how often they send shoes out.

I think it depends. With ds7, the pair they sent didn't fit right, so he didn't wear them. He's never gotten another pair. Dd12 got her second pair not long after we sent the first pair back. We sent the 2nd pair back about 3 weeks ago and haven't heard anything else.
