CNET product brief
for HP LaserJet 1018 - printer - B/W - laser
Description: The HP Laserjet 1018 is a 12 ppm, black and white laser printer. Compared to other black and white laser printers on the market, it is inexpensive at around $130. This unit has a maximum resolution of 600dpi.
Pros: At the small size of 15" x10" x8", this printer is easy to use in a small office. This unit is also relatively light, weighing in at mere 11 lbs. At 150 sheets, without optional media trays, the HP Laserjet 1018 can handle more printouts without refilling than would many comparable printers.
Cons: Only has a 3000 pages monthly duty cycle. This is not out of line with the product's price, but is less favorable than the average laser printer on the market today.
Suitability: A black and white laser printer, suited for basic SOHO printing. This printer can handle A4 (8.25 in x 11.7 in) documents.
Value: In view of its inexpensive price, this laser printer has great features for the money. Still, considering the resolution, similar black and white printers usually cost $250.

Jeff428 9-18-2007, 1:51 AM Sounds great. Going to try and buy it ASAP.
georgi55 9-18-2007, 8:06 AM Be careful, the rebate may get denied as it seems like some other retailers are selling the printer with same rebate but 2x the price.

I did think it was odd that Newegg didn't have a link to the rebate directly, but Newegg IS an authorized HP reseller as is required on the rebate form.
On the rebate's terms and conditions, it says that it cannot be combined with national or reseller offers. I don't think they'll honor the rebate with newegg's sale.

So it can't be on sale? How ridiculous is that...
How about Buy.com? They have the same printer for $127.99 w/ free shipping. They're an authorized HP reseller too.

I would be weary of it just because NewEgg doesn't link to the rebate. But then again, buy.com doesn't either. It may be worth trying, its still a great price at $79!
Did anyone contact Newegg and ask about the rebate?
stufuller 9-18-2007, 11:10 AM Last month, I bought one of these at Meijer (a Midwest retailer) for $69, and sent in the rebate form. I got an acknowledgment confirming my eligibility, and that I should receive my award in 2-4 weeks.
georgi55 9-18-2007, 11:11 AM Well staples has it for $130 shipped and $65 easy rebate so you don't even have to send in any material, just enter serial number online.

If it is a Manuf. rebate, do they care if it was on sale?
They already got their money out of the retailer. That doesn't change.
I haven't had a problem with getting a rebate on sale items in the past, but I could be wrong.
happyrat 9-18-2007, 11:28 AM About 6 months ago I bought a better printer from Newegg, and mine was refurbished. It was a P2015 and I got my rebate. It took forever, and they kept claiming they never received it, and I had to fax it to them 3 times, but I got my check. Never once did they question my buying it from Newegg. PS check under open box and see if they still have the 1018 for $51.99. If they do, then you would get paid to buy it.
YMMV as you may get the rebate and you may not. If you need a printer anyway, its still a good price. Look at the rebate as a bonus, and you won't be disappointed if you don't get it, and delighted if you do.
missyjane 9-18-2007, 2:07 PM Well I'm in for one. My boss's printer died yesterday and now I'm a hero for "finding" a great deal. Thanks Marcster!
wnielsen1 9-18-2007, 2:45 PM In for one. Rebates aren't a problem unless you LET them become a problem.
So is this free after rebate at Staples?
Marcster 9-18-2007, 4:07 PM So is this free after rebate at Staples?
No, Staples has this printer for $130 shipped. The $65.00 rebate would make your cost $65.00.
yellowlilax 9-18-2007, 10:14 PM how much are toners for this model?

Marcster 9-19-2007, 8:38 AM Wow, mine has shipped already.
Newegg doesn't mess around. Most of my orders are shipped the same business day. Even if I order as late as 3 pm EST.
dbobrow 9-19-2007, 9:08 AM Where do all of you see free shipping? Mine keeps coming up as $12.52 for 3 day UPS shipping. Help!!!! :eyepoppin

Sorry... it was free shipping yesterday. Still a final cost (AR) of $27.51 isn't bad.
Jeff428 9-19-2007, 4:49 PM Luckily I ordered mine on time. I got the free shipping for it. :D
Jeff428 9-24-2007, 1:06 AM FOr the people that purchased fmo newegg, can you tell me what all you sent out to HP for the rebate?
I printed out the first page only of the rebate(with the blanks, the 2nd page just had instructions so didn't need to print that out. Do I need it?)
And I have the UPC and serial sticker offthe box. What else do I need? Do I need to print out a receipt from new egg?

I didn't review the rebate, but yes, typically, you need your order confirmation (receipt).

All I put in my envelope was 3 things...
1) Peeled off the UPC/Serial sticker on the side of my HP Box. then I taped it to a blank sheet of paper and wrote "UPC and Serial Sticker".
2) I printed out the new egg.com receipt/invoice confirmation e-mail on yahoo.
3) The HP $65 rebate coupon from the online website PDF file and wrote my information on it.
---
I'm assuming that's all?

Sounds like you got everything. :)
sterlingjeanne 9-28-2007, 11:33 AM Last minute question: Is this still considered a great deal (other than no longer free shipping)? It seems the rebate is good thru purchases today. THX!

A laser printer for about $30 after rebate... Yeah, it's a deal that's tough to top, short of buying one second-hand. You won't even find a refurb for that price.
sterlingjeanne 9-28-2007, 12:38 PM Marster,
Thank you for the original post and prompt reply. My question probably related equally to whether you had any concern about the $65 rebate working regarding a couple of the comments. YOU, I think all of us recognize, are one of THE experts (based on you I bought a prior printer! that I am still happy with)!
Jeff428 10-8-2007, 10:18 PM Woo! :cheesy:

Great news - I was a little concerned about this one. Congrats to those who got in on this excellent deal :)
mahalia52 11-11-2007, 11:35 PM I saw this when it came out, but was unsure of it (sounded to good to be true). I hate I missed this deal, good for those of you that got in...I want a laser printer now...It is now $109 on website...
missyjane 11-16-2007, 4:15 PM I received my rebate check today! Thanks for the awesome deal, the little printer is working out really well. I wish that I would have got another one because my printer on my desk died. Thanks again!
