Desktops, Laptops, and Digital Camera's always seem to be some of the HOTTEST items each year. It also seems each year that flat panel TV's become more and more popular!

I'm thinking the flat panel tv's.

I also agree about the TVs. I think this will be the HD holiday season. There were a lot of great deals on HDTVs last year, but people still didn't think they needed them, but now with all these great HD sources out there (cable, satellite, XBox 360, PS3, HD-DVD, Blu-Ray) and prices even lower than they were last year, it's going to be big. More people are seeing the picture quality at friends/relatives homes as HDTV is no longer just for early adopters.

As far as prices for LCD HDTVs, you might see 32" for around $349, 42" for around $699, and very good prices on higher quality models including 1080p. Wal-Mart will likely have HD-DVD players for $199 or less.

As far as laptops, there are so many cheap laptops available during the rest of the year now (which wasn't the case a couple years ago), that it will take not only low prices to cause hype, but better-than-average specs.

Another BF prediction: a lot of people will complain that there are no good deals in the ads, but will still end up in line hours ahead of time after they get caught up in the hype, then will say "I'm not doing this next year" only to end up in the same situation next year :P

Hot item this year: A professional broadcast-quality webcam so Brad can produce his weekly show 'Deal Of The Week', starring Brad! :giggle: I really wouldn't be surprised if that was the next step up this BF. :D

Seriously, more desktops and laptops for cheap with slightly better specs than previous years, core PS3's and XBOX360's dropping in price along with Nintendo DS and PSP. Dunno about the hottest toy for christmas this year.

I will be in line for the 32" TV if they are that cheap this year! I'm lucky that I do not need desktops or laptops (hubby is a tech so we each have a laptop and desktop!!) so I will not have to stand in line for those. A newer digital camera would be nice.

I guess if the 32" are that inexpensive, that I would be tempted. My dh wants one, however, as picky as he is about specs, I doubt I would find any on BF that would please him. Guess I could always give it to one of our kids and have them put it in the living room. :)

The trauma this year hit too late in the year for them to make up manufacturing shortfalls..........of course the rumors of toy shortages will make consumers spend crazy to, so i guess i just talked myself in a circle..................never mind. have some more wine...

I think that the opposite will apply, due to the fact that the LCD war happened last season, causing some companies to close stores, and layoff workers. News reports cited LCD monitors from walmart and best buy being the root cause of these financial woes.

I don't know about other parents, but I'll be avoiding Fisher Price/Mattel toys like the plague to be real honest. I had planned to get DD3 the Kid Touch camera since I couldn't get her one last year, and YDD the bounce and spin zebra. I've changed my mind on both of those. Thankfully, Vtech & Little Tykes both have preschooler digital cameras now, so I'll go with one of those instead. But I've yet to come up with a replacement "big gift" for YDD.

Fisher Price/Mattel could really go either way on whether they'll push big sales, or hold back. I think it depends on the customer base. How many others are changing their minds about the brand and looking for an alternative?

Where are you finding them standing on shelves? The Wii's that are around here don't even last a day in the store. The online sites only have them available for a few hours at a time. They are still very hard to find and I have heard they will be harder at Christmas.

I have heard the same thing about the Wii (that they will be very hard to find) and I cannot find any in the stores around my neighborhood - please share where you are finding them standing on the shelves as that is a MUST have in my family.

Our local Wal-mart has about 7 of them on the shelf. Been there for at least 2 weeks.

We got our Wii last night at Sam's club. They had several tickets left. We've also seen them at Target and Toys R us. I'm near Indianapolis.

Wow, that is a REAL sad attitude to have toward Christmas. Have you said out loud to yourself what you just wrote "Christmas is about profit for me?" I see nothing wrong with buying and reselling on ebay, etc, but a person can do that and still know what Christmas is really about, I think :yup:

I dont know about anyone else with DD's, but mine really wants that swimming doll you can take in the bathtub. I found it recently at target for $40!! I about died. But since her bday is 1 month BEFORE xmas, i think it will be her bday present.

Well I can tell you some of the kinds of items which will NOT be in the hotlist... possibly blacklisted by consumers this year: ANY TOY POTENTIALLY PAINTED WITH LEAD PAINT!
Walmart and Toys-R-Us potentially can take a HUGE hit for this problem this holiday season as consumers scramble to find ALTERNATIVES.
I strongly encourage parents to boycott manufacturers of products which have been recalled due to lead paint this holiday season. They should NOT get a free pass just because they're now becoming pro-active about the problem LONG since children started getting contaminated.

I'm no expert, but I think this will be a great BF. Lots of merchandise currently on the shelves and in warehouses will lose a lot of value after Christmas, so I expect the Big Boxers to liquidate.

Start with HD TV. Two new technologies will shake things up next year -- LED backlighting and higher refresh rates. The higher refresh rates will cost nothing to implement, so, slower LCDs will become obsolete. Good news for all except sports fans ;) The LED thing will add a new high end and push prices down on the current premium technology.

I think PS3 and Xbox promotions will abound. Wii is kicking their butts (http://www.eproductwars.com/vg/) and Sony needs to get PS3s in homes to push their HDDVD format. Plus the money is in game sales. Gouge the early adopters then dump on the masses.

I'm not sure if this will the The Season of HD, but I wouldn't be surprised. Liteon is already creating inexpensive burners, so the window may be closing on the premium status of HD. If the marketers agree, look for inexpensive players and a wave of inexpensive movies.

I also expect computers to be blown out this season. MS won't allow XP to be installed by OEMs after this year, so the supply chain will need to clear out all that not-ready-for-Vista hardware.

I expect to see a lot of preemptive promotions. Retail sales are down this fall. Walmart showed a willingness to jump the gun. Others will follow.

I'm thinking I'll be in line for a big TV on BF and an Xbox or PS3 via pre-BF promotions, and a bunch of HD movies. I'll grab a couple cheap PCs if the opportunity presents itself. Should be fun!

The Game of Life Twist and Turns is an electronic version of the Game of Life. I think it was about $35 at TRU. I have not not heard of Dirt either.

... the multiplayer support is really the only thing about DiRT you can call truly disappointing. On every other front, DiRT delivers a racing experience that's a lot of fun to play, as well as visuals that are an absolute joy to watch. The PS3 version's inclusion of a steadier frame rate, slightly better audio quality, and support for the Logitech G25 force feedback steering wheel helps define it as the best of the bunch. If you already picked up one of the previous releases of the game, there's not enough new content here to make this version worth your while. But for those who missed out on DiRT the first time around, this is the definitive version to get.

I guess I'll have to see if I can get any deals on this. :)

The Little Einstein's Pat Pat Rocket is going to be huge this year. I have been trying to find one for almost a month online and in stores with no luck. It retails for $39.99 but people are selling them for $100 and up. I may have to wait until my middle one's birthday to get it. If anyone finds one, please pm me.

The Little Einstein playsets were just about sold out at the Target by me. The rocket was sold out. It looks really cute so I may have to go on a hunt for it. I got the Mickey Mouse clubhouse last year and my dd doesn't really like it. It is kind of boring. I am hoping that the rocket and playsets are better

For those who live near Brookpark, OH: I found that the Walmart out there was a good place to find the hard to find toys. Last year they had the TMX Elmo and the Mickey Mouse clubhouse and characters. Hope that helps someone:)

I was surprised to see as many Wiis at the Best Buy close to me yesterday. I had gone to get a couple DVDs and saw about 20 of them.

But what was kinda funny is I was there maybe 20 min looking at a couple other items for my bday/christmas and when i went back by the Wiis at least 10 of them were already gone.

last year meijers here in columbus ohio had 42 inch plasmas for $499 on black friday.

Any ideas on whether GPS systems may be a BF item? After using one while on an out of town trip I think it would be a wonderful gift item. Now just need to do all the research to determine the "right" ones to be looking for.

Also about the lead paint. Hubby works in a plastic plant.. I asked him why they put lead in the paint..he said to make it shiny.. that kind of unnerved me because those plastic toys are shiny and Im always wondering if it has lead it in. I think some toys the plastic is colored before being molded rather then painted....not sure on that but Mattel and others are going to have earn their trust back before people start buying them again...

I should have grabbed the Pat Pat Rockets when I saw them at Target. I thought I would wait for a sale. I'm disappointed. My daughter loves Little Einsteins and I haven't been able to find any of their merchandise for the longest time.

I really hope someone has high quality digital photo frames at a jaw-dropping price. My husband loves the Phillips one I bought last year, but I was lucky to pay "only" $180 for it. It has awesome picture quality, though. I hope to be able to buy between 5-8 this year for family members, but our limit for some of them is only $50. Huge! We mangaged to get tickets by buying a fan club membership. Fan club members got to purchase tickets 4 days early. I got on as soon as they went on sale. The seats I got are not the best, but my daughter is happy to be going at all. On the day of the regular sale, they were sold out immediately. I know tons of people who tried to get tickets and they were sold out as soon as they went on sale!

The Scooby Doo action figures and mystery machine are HTF around here. I have been on a hunt for the figures. I finally found two of the two packs at TRU in the return cart. The five pack of figures just became available online at TRU so i hurried up and ordered those. I have looked at every store I go to and that is the only time i have actually seen them in the store. The sales associate said they sell out as fast as they get them in.

I am hoping for a good deal on digital frames. I would like to get one for my MOM and MIL.

The carebears are cute, but since they are white I can see them getting dirty quickly. This item would stay in the box for my little one. I have seen these in WM for around 19.

I was hoping that there would be digital picture frames this year I think that I'm going to give them to the inlaws and parents.

I was able to get 2 sets of the figures at toysrus they were in the back though chatting with the employees really helps... Also called my cousin in UTICA NY she says there are loads of them on her shelves at toys r us.

Get the role-playing kid this game neverwinter nights for the PC. That or a game called oblivion. Those are hugely popular RPGs(role-playing games).

Get the inventor some kind of DIY kit for kids.

The other kid....Not sure, you could just do what my parents do(I'm 16!!) and give him 20-30 dollars and let him choose what he really wants.

For the inventor, I would suggest Knex a large set, a micorscope, various national geographic science kits, maybe even a small chemistry set if you think he is responsible enough.

For the 10 year old I would suggest some kind of game system with new role playing games, or if your budget allows his own laptop to play games on.

The six year old, I would do a variety Hot wheels set, books, heelys, action figures, videos, etc.

I use to take my kids to the toy store and let them show me things they liked. You could try that with the six year old. We called it pretend shopping.

Anything painted, or processed in a way that it could have LEAD in the product it to be avoided like the plague. Retailers deserve to get hit HARD for allowing China to go so cheap without any product materials controls. Many people can remember what a horror the 1960s 1970's, 80s were with lead products everywhere being BANNED, lead gasoline.. BANNED, lead paint BANNED, etc.. Well... its BAAAACK..... even pencils went to graphite...

Kohl's online has the smart cycle right now for 54.99 IF you can find it in stock. It's been hit or miss, usually late at night or early in the morning and only stays online for 10 minutes before it sells out.

Little Einsteins pat pat rocket is no where to be found except ebar or amazon at a 100-200%markup. I called Targert the other morning and the sales person said I was his fifth call regarding that item that morning. This was 30 minutes after they opened up. :mad:

There are two stores in Deptford, NJ that have the Smart Cycle. TRU by the Deptford Mall, KayBee inside the mall.

I suggest you call ahead and get them asap.


BTW- Two weeks ago, I got a Wii at the above TRU. I got up and stood in line @<hidden> 5am. Was told the evening before that there was 80 coming in, but still did not take the chance. Got there and was 22nd in line. Manager came out @<hidden> and handed out 24 tickets and announced that they only rec'd 24!!!!

I think one of the big items this year will be the digital picture frames. I doubt there will be a shortage since there are so many manufacturers for them. They are finally coming into a "reasonable" price range. I can't really say that I would want one though, give it another year and there will be plenty of them at garage sales for a couple of bucks!

The digital frames are nice, I'll probably pick one up for the girlfriend.

I bought a Sponge-Bob TV/DVD combo last year for a friend's son and she said it stopped working after about 6 months.

i don't get it - the pat pat rockets are around $40-$50 on Ebay - not all that much more than retail from what i understand. The U.B. Funkeys are not moving much at all - most of them $10 or less - and the pink anniversary care bears are around $20 IF they have a bid at all - so if any of you need/want these items and can't find them in the stores, i'd go to Ebay now before Halloween.

25th Anniversary G. I. Joe figures. I'm just old enough to be excited when I saw the original Snake Eyes, Cobra Commander, and Storm Shadow yesterday in WM.

Little tyks to my knowledge has NO recalls for lead. I LOVE Little tykes stuff. I have alot of it in my house and yard. I have a rocking chiar I bought 13 years ago for my daughter. My neices now use it and it look the same (with added stickers) as when I bought it. That stuff last forever..

The new TMX Elmo will be on shelves Nov. 13th. Not sure what's special about it, it looks like the other ones to me.

JCPenney online has the Rubix cube too. I ordered 2 for gifts, just got them last week.
