View Full Version : What are going to be the HOT items on Black Friday this year (ex. TMX Elmo in '06) trumpet87 8-29-2007, 10:32 PM  nedsw33 8-29-2007, 10:45 PM Desktops, Laptops, and Digital Camera's always seem to be some of the HOTTEST items each year. It also seems each year that flat panel TV's become more and more popular! Kaarak 8-29-2007, 11:27 PM I'm thinking the flat panel tv's. Brad 8-29-2007, 11:46 PM I also agree about the TVs. I think this will be the HD holiday season. There were a lot of great deals on HDTVs last year, but people still didn't think they needed them, but now with all these great HD sources out there (cable, satellite, XBox 360, PS3, HD-DVD, Blu-Ray) and prices even lower than they were last year, it's going to be big. More people are seeing the picture quality at friends/relatives homes as HDTV is no longer just for early adopters. As far as prices for LCD HDTVs, you might see 32" for around $349, 42" for around $699, and very good prices on higher quality models including 1080p. Wal-Mart will likely have HD-DVD players for $199 or less. As far as laptops, there are so many cheap laptops available during the rest of the year now (which wasn't the case a couple years ago), that it will take not only low prices to cause hype, but better-than-average specs. In the last month, there have been countless laptops in the Sunday ads for as low as $349 after rebates. Nearly all stores have a model for $499 or less in their ad pretty much every single week. So the big laptop deal on BF will have to be one with a low price ($400 or less) AND good specifications. Same thing for desktops. For example, just today I posted a very nice deal (http://forums.gottadeal.com/showthread.php?t=81232) for a quality Dell desktop with dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and an included 19" LCD monitor for $379. Free shipping, no rebates, no waiting in line for hours, and Dell quality. happysunshine28 8-30-2007, 1:20 AM As far as prices for LCD HDTVs, you might see 32" for around $349, 42" for around $699, and very good prices on higher quality models including 1080p. Wal-Mart will likely have HD-DVD players for $199 or less. . Boy if they have a 32 inch for around $349 I might just have to take that plunge. Brad 8-30-2007, 1:45 AM Boy if they have a 32 inch for around $349 I might just have to take that plunge. Considering we've seen 32" models consistently (at least once per month) for $479-499 during the year (for decent brands like Olevia even), it's very likely they will be below $400 on BF, if not sooner. dmmiller 8-30-2007, 6:52 AM I think i'm going to try and get a smaller lcd/hdtv for the bedroom. We were going to buy one last year, but splurged for the 40" instead. A nice cheap laptop would be nice also. DS is buggin me he wants his own. nedsw33 8-30-2007, 8:39 AM Brad, you sound like someone who's holding the BF'07 ads in your hands already... haha! Marcster 8-30-2007, 8:58 AM Brad, you sound like someone who's holding the BF'07 ads in your hands already... haha! Brad could get a side job anticipating the BF deals, just like those people on the Saturday morning TV giving stock tips. Brad 8-30-2007, 3:07 PM Brad could get a side job anticipating the BF deals, just like those people on the Saturday morning TV giving stock tips. Another BF prediction: a lot of people will complain that there are no good deals in the ads, but will still end up in line hours ahead of time after they get caught up in the hype, then will say "I'm not doing this next year" only to end up in the same situation next year :P stationchief 8-30-2007, 3:42 PM Hot item this year: A professional broadcast-quality webcam so Brad can produce his weekly show 'Deal Of The Week', starring Brad! :giggle: I really wouldn't be surprised if that was the next step up this BF. :D Seriously, more desktops and laptops for cheap with slightly better specs than previous years, core PS3's and XBOX360's dropping in price along with Nintendo DS and PSP. Dunno about the hottest toy for christmas this year. dmmiller 8-30-2007, 4:34 PM Whatever it is, should be out @<hidden> next month. Wasnt TMX out about last sept.? sigrist_2000 8-30-2007, 6:01 PM TMX Cookie monster and another TMX is supposed to be released soon... Brad 8-30-2007, 6:31 PM TMX Cookie monster and another TMX is supposed to be released soon... TMX Cookie Monster and TMX Ernie, with Elmo now collectively called TMX Friends. Target.com had both of these for preorder for $34.99 each, but they are now sold out. Target.com had both of these for preorder for $34.99 each, but they are now sold out. Read on another website that sub-200 dollar HD-DVD players from China are about to hit the market. aerosmithgirl 8-31-2007, 8:35 PM I will be in line for the 32" TV if they are that cheap this year! I'm lucky that I do not need desktops or laptops (hubby is a tech so we each have a laptop and desktop!!) so I will not have to stand in line for those. A newer digital camera would be nice. Jade280 8-31-2007, 9:40 PM Same thing for desktops. Nothing but crap. lilac100 9-1-2007, 8:09 PM Another BF prediction: a lot of people will complain that there are no good deals in the ads, but will still end up in line hours ahead of time after they get caught up in the hype, then will say "I'm not doing this next year" only to end up in the same situation next year :P Man it's almost like you know me personally. Said that last year and what am I doing? Already hittin the boards lookin for the deals. :D nirvana4all 9-1-2007, 9:43 PM Dell Quality... now that is funny! Never again will I purchase a Dell. Nothing but crap. I would not go quite that far...close, but maybe not that far. thechef71 9-2-2007, 8:01 AM I saw that toysrus also has tmx cookie monster available for preorder but for $29.99 :eyepoppin Marcster 9-2-2007, 2:21 PM Read on another website that sub-200 dollar HD-DVD players from China are about to hit the market. Ernie is BIG in our house - but hey, if it goes for $100 on Ebay, out he goes! nedsw33 9-2-2007, 7:29 PM Probably loaded with lead and waiting to be recalled... :D oh geeezzzzz, haha! kimber6337 9-3-2007, 2:16 AM after the elmo mess I was in last year I'm not going to fall for the get the emlo and hold deal, had a room full of those buggers and ended up selling them at "cost". I'm back too ready for some deals. DD informed me tonight she wants a pink dell laptop, nano or mp3 player and a wii - she's lost her mind or I've lost my wallett, not sure but I need some deals!!!!! And I wonder, why does it now say posts 1 when I've posted bunches here :( oh well... Shortness 9-3-2007, 2:41 AM Brad could get a side job anticipating the BF deals, just like those people on the Saturday morning TV giving stock tips. I was thinking the same thing... ;) I guess if the 32" are that inexpensive, that I would be tempted. My dh wants one, however, as picky as he is about specs, I doubt I would find any on BF that would please him. Guess I could always give it to one of our kids and have them put it in the living room. :) cherry33778 9-3-2007, 3:42 AM Well my mom had that teddy ruxpen remake last year for my nephews, and as she stated if they are high in demand then bye bye birdie :D Marcster 9-3-2007, 11:09 AM In light of the fact that OfficeDepot has 512 MB SD Cards and Flash Drives for free after rebate this week, I think that places will have 1GB SD Cards and Flash Drives for free AR on BF. nedsw33 9-3-2007, 11:12 AM Yeah, for sure. Especially considering that buy.com even periodically offers 1gb & 2gb SD cards & flash drives for free after rebates. :D TENIA66 9-3-2007, 5:20 PM LCD tvs, digital picture frames, wireless technology, cheap wii games.....I'm going to go out on a limb though and wonder if mattel and fisher price won't hold back some due to scandal and lack of availability of product as well as some lost consumer confidence. The trauma this year hit too late in the year for them to make up manufacturing shortfalls..........of course the rumors of toy shortages will make consumers spend crazy to, so i guess i just talked myself in a circle..................never mind. have some more wine... jarerice 9-3-2007, 6:11 PM the fur real pets will be hot and so will the Wii jaymacfla 9-3-2007, 9:35 PM I also agree about the TVs. I think that the opposite will apply, due to the fact that the LCD war happened last season, causing some companies to close stores, and layoff workers. News reports cited LCD monitors from walmart and best buy being the root cause of these financial woes. noaimhere 9-6-2007, 11:16 AM I'm not sure what will be hot, but i'll be out. PS3 maybe? Some nice bundle? We got Wii last year. We are now the owners of 2 Wii - between 3 kids. I don't know about other parents, but I'll be avoiding Fisher Price/Mattel toys like the plague to be real honest. I had planned to get DD3 the Kid Touch camera since I couldn't get her one last year, and YDD the bounce and spin zebra. I've changed my mind on both of those. Thankfully, Vtech & Little Tykes both have preschooler digital cameras now, so I'll go with one of those instead. But I've yet to come up with a replacement "big gift" for YDD. Fisher Price/Mattel could really go either way on whether they'll push big sales, or hold back. I think it depends on the customer base. How many others are changing their minds about the brand and looking for an alternative? Reneeahoke 9-7-2007, 12:00 PM I am surprised to hear the wii will be hot again this year. We managed to get one on the first day they came out last year, but now they are standing on the shelves. We managed to get one on the first day they came out last year, but now they are standing on the shelves. Should I be investing??? Nah, let some parents catch a break and be able to get one for their kids. You won't profit that much as christmas. Think about it. You pay 299 + tax for the Wii = about 315 dollars You sell about 350 + shipping You give about 5% in fees for paypal and ebay listing fees... You only made about 35 bucks... Not worth it IMHO... Christmas is not about making a profit, you'll probably have a better time hanging out with your family. Would you really want to have your Christmas memories being that you made a 100 dollar profit on an elmo doll? savaladez 9-7-2007, 6:09 PM Nah, let some parents catch a break and be able to get one for their kids. Christmas is not about making a profit, you'll probably have a better time hanging out with your family. Would you really want to have your Christmas memories being that you made a 100 dollar profit on an elmo doll? Well, first, I can get them for $259, and, since this is how I bring in necessary income, Christmas is about profit for me. nikkilugi 9-8-2007, 3:01 PM Where are you finding them standing on shelves? The Wii's that are around here don't even last a day in the store. The online sites only have them available for a few hours at a time. They are still very hard to find and I have heard they will be harder at Christmas. Christy Garner 9-9-2007, 10:12 AM I have heard the same thing about the Wii (that they will be very hard to find) and I cannot find any in the stores around my neighborhood - please share where you are finding them standing on the shelves as that is a MUST have in my family. guilliam 9-9-2007, 10:50 AM Our local Wal-mart has about 7 of them on the shelf. Been there for at least 2 weeks. irisbee 9-9-2007, 11:28 AM We got our Wii last night at Sam's club. They had several tickets left. We've also seen them at Target and Toys R us. I'm near Indianapolis. Reneeahoke 9-9-2007, 4:48 PM They have been available every time I go to our Walmart or Target for months now. jbalicki10 9-10-2007, 11:17 AM Well, first, I can get them for $259, and, since this is how I bring in necessary income, Christmas is about profit for me. No offense, but that's pretty sad... Well good luck and I hope you make boatloads. Marcster 9-10-2007, 11:33 AM Please refrain from discussing whether or not people should or should not be selling hard to get items on eBay. Please return to the topic of "What are going to be the HOT items on Black Friday this year?" trumpet87 9-15-2007, 12:36 AM Well, first, I can get them for $259, and, since this is how I bring in necessary income, Christmas is about profit for me. Wow, that is a REAL sad attitude to have toward Christmas. Have you said out loud to yourself what you just wrote "Christmas is about profit for me?" I see nothing wrong with buying and reselling on ebay, etc, but a person can do that and still know what Christmas is really about, I think :yup: nick_jenni_jocelyn 9-15-2007, 7:26 AM I dont know about anyone else with DD's, but mine really wants that swimming doll you can take in the bathtub. I found it recently at target for $40!! I about died. But since her bday is 1 month BEFORE xmas, i think it will be her bday present. tmc8080 9-15-2007, 10:53 AM Well I can tell you some of the kinds of items which will NOT be in the hotlist... possibly blacklisted by consumers this year: ANY TOY POTENTIALLY PAINTED WITH LEAD PAINT! Walmart and Toys-R-Us potentially can take a HUGE hit for this problem this holiday season as consumers scramble to find ALTERNATIVES. I strongly encourage parents to boycott manufacturers of products which have been recalled due to lead paint this holiday season. They should NOT get a free pass just because they're now becoming pro-active about the problem LONG since children started getting contaminated. len_mullen 9-15-2007, 12:48 PM I'm no expert, but I think this will be a great BF. Lots of merchandise currently on the shelves and in warehouses will lose a lot of value after Christmas, so I expect the Big Boxers to liquidate. Start with HD TV. Two new technologies will shake things up next year -- LED backlighting and higher refresh rates. The higher refresh rates will cost nothing to implement, so, slower LCDs will become obsolete. Good news for all except sports fans ;) The LED thing will add a new high end and push prices down on the current premium technology. I think PS3 and Xbox promotions will abound. Wii is kicking their butts (http://www.eproductwars.com/vg/) and Sony needs to get PS3s in homes to push their HDDVD format. Plus the money is in game sales. Gouge the early adopters then dump on the masses. I'm not sure if this will the The Season of HD, but I wouldn't be surprised. Liteon is already creating inexpensive burners, so the window may be closing on the premium status of HD. If the marketers agree, look for inexpensive players and a wave of inexpensive movies. I also expect computers to be blown out this season. MS won't allow XP to be installed by OEMs after this year, so the supply chain will need to clear out all that not-ready-for-Vista hardware. I expect to see a lot of preemptive promotions. Retail sales are down this fall. Walmart showed a willingness to jump the gun. Others will follow. I'm thinking I'll be in line for a big TV on BF and an Xbox or PS3 via pre-BF promotions, and a bunch of HD movies. I'll grab a couple cheap PCs if the opportunity presents itself. Should be fun! jellybean051901 9-16-2007, 1:03 AM I am hoping for a good price on a LCD HDTV. I think that there will be good toy prices due to all the recent recalls to boost sales. guilliam 9-16-2007, 7:26 AM I don't know about other parents, but I'll be avoiding Fisher Price/Mattel toys like the plague to be real honest. I also heard its like $80!!!! If so, what is sooo special about this game? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I just did a search re: dirt. and found this ... ... the multiplayer support is really the only thing about DiRT you can call truly disappointing. On every other front, DiRT delivers a racing experience that's a lot of fun to play, as well as visuals that are an absolute joy to watch. The PS3 version's inclusion of a steadier frame rate, slightly better audio quality, and support for the Logitech G25 force feedback steering wheel helps define it as the best of the bunch. If you already picked up one of the previous releases of the game, there's not enough new content here to make this version worth your while. But for those who missed out on DiRT the first time around, this is the definitive version to get. I guess I'll have to see if I can get any deals on this. :) Kalel 9-17-2007, 11:56 AM Nice to see u again, greetings from Mexico! kpmdjm 9-17-2007, 2:15 PM That doll that swims by baby born to already sold out every where around here. I know they are HOT now but I cant see myself forking over the money for them unless there is a deal going on. Also about the lead paint. Hubby works in a plastic plant.. I asked him why they put lead in the paint..he said to make it shiny.. that kind of unnerved me because those plastic toys are shiny and Im always wondering if it has lead it in. That really is the hottest item this christmas season for me and still eludes me. msomnipotent 9-21-2007, 2:31 PM I should have grabbed the Pat Pat Rockets when I saw them at Target. I thought I would wait for a sale. I'm disappointed. My daughter loves Little Einsteins and I haven't been able to find any of their merchandise for the longest time. I really hope someone has high quality digital photo frames at a jaw-dropping price. My husband loves the Phillips one I bought last year, but I was lucky to pay "only" $180 for it. It has awesome picture quality, though. I hope to be able to buy between 5-8 this year for family members, but our limit for some of them is only $50. Meijer had a good deal on an 8" Pandigital for $79.99 plus a mail in $25 Mejier gift card and another $10 MIR. I was only able to get one (it's staying with me!), but I hope they have similar deals on BF. krissy72 9-23-2007, 7:13 PM Has anyone ever heard of a U.B. Funkey? My DD9 is asking for one of these. For the 10 year old I would suggest some kind of game system with new role playing games, or if your budget allows his own laptop to play games on. The six year old, I would do a variety Hot wheels set, books, heelys, action figures, videos, etc. I use to take my kids to the toy store and let them show me things they liked. I'm just old enough to be excited when I saw the original Snake Eyes, Cobra Commander, and Storm Shadow yesterday in WM. For DW and I, it's a LCD HDTV and maybe a new desktop. Thanks for all the tips and tricks, I'm making my list! RaineeDay1 10-30-2007, 9:08 AM It is hard to know but if I had three in that age range I would be looking at Little Tykes, I don't remember them having a lot of recalls and they have some very nice toys for that age range. If I am wrong about them somebody let us know please. Little tyks to my knowledge has NO recalls for lead. I LOVE Little tykes stuff. I have alot of it in my house and yard. I have a rocking chiar I bought 13 years ago for my daughter. My neices now use it and it look the same (with added stickers) as when I bought it. That stuff last forever.. krisee30 11-2-2007, 5:42 PM The new TMX Elmo will be on shelves Nov. 13th. Not sure what's special about it, it looks like the other ones to me. I mean...my kids all went to TRU to make their lists last night and the stuff on the shelves that was gone or going, wasn't on most want lists. They had more than enough TMX Friends and Pat-Pat Rockets. They also had Buterscotch, Hanna Montana's and the Smart Cycle. Maybe people are waiting for these things to go on sale, but I went and got some of my shopping done to avoid a headache. (Wii bundle, Pat-Pat Rocket, Rose Petal Cottage, Transformers, MP3 players.) msomnipotent 11-3-2007, 4:23 PM It's hard to say right now.
