View Full Version : What do you take with you on Black Friday?
queenki 8-28-2007, 11:15 AM What do you take with you on Black Friday? A fanny pack, a purse, coin purse or just use your pockets? What do you have in it? What do you wear also? I wear some jeans and a long sleeve shirt, I layer it with a sweater and a hat, gloves, tennis shoes, and coat. I do this so as it gets warmer I can peel the layers for comfort.
julz0420 8-28-2007, 12:00 PM I usually wear sweat pants, tshirt under a sweatshirt then a coat. Usually the coat gets ditched in the van after my first stop cause I'm hot. My money is usually in my moms pockets since she lets me do the running and she waits in line (if they are getting long) or sits back and listens for me to yell where to go. LMAO
Julie
berry1014 8-28-2007, 12:01 PM I keep my money, debit card and keys in my pockets. I usually wear jeans, sweater or long sleeve shirt, winter coat, gloves, hand warmers, boots .
lilac100 8-28-2007, 12:34 PM I added a couple things last year. The first was hand warmers. Little packets that get warm when you squish them. I found them in sporting goods for hunters. They work fantastic when standing in long cold lines at 3am. I bought a clip hook for my keys so I could just clip them onto my belt loops. No losing them or digging in bottom of purse for them. I stopped carrying a purse. I am now just carrying a cigarette case that holds credit cards. I don't take cash it's all debit card or nothing. Jeans, t-shirt, sweatshirt, coat, gloves, scarf, sock hat. Most of the hot stuff is left in suv after the first store. I also take my sister, we take turns standing in the cold line and sitting in the warm suv.
shopping mom 8-28-2007, 12:38 PM I use one of those travel passport holders that slips around my neck. I never have to worry about walking away from it or losing it. I carry my debit card, list and car key in there. Then I bring the sale ads. Oh I also pack a few drinks and ham rolls for later.
Year before last I think I just stuck my money, credit and debit cards, and drivers license in my pocket. Last year I think I carried a purse.
Normally I would wear jeans, tshirt, and flip flops. Last year I had to wear a jacket because I got a little chilly. Hopefully this year will be back to my flip flops and jeans and tshirt, no jacket.
christib327 8-28-2007, 2:04 PM I carry one of those wallet type purses. You know, the ones that are really flat and you just unsnap it and it has a place for all your cards and $$ and stuff. I put that around my neck so I don't leave it anywhere. I'm always paranoid about stuff falling out of my pockets.
I usually wear jeans, a turtleneck and sweater or sweatshirt and comfy shoes. It's cold here in Ohio, but I refuse to wear a coat. I don't like the extra bulk when I'm trying to shop.
For my first stop, since I'm generally in line in the cold, I'm dressed for it, including a hat, scarf, and mittens. Last year, I even stopped off for a coffee first, which I usually don't waste time with, but it was REALLY cold last year, and the night before, I generally don't sleep well, between having a shorter night to sleep, and the natural high that comes from dreaming of all of the good deals I'm going to get!! I have my money/cards, phone, ID, and keys in my pockets. I'm generally not at my first stop for too long, because if I've planned it well, I'm in and out to get what I most want and then I'm off to the next place...as long as the next place is open, I am without outerwear, because I will probably end up standing in longer lines, or fighting more crowds, but I still don't carry a purse! I usually have enough to carry without having to drag that along!
mandifour 8-28-2007, 2:46 PM I put everything in my pockets. I wear jean and usually a light jacket if needed. It is usually pretty warm. I always wear tennis shoes, I like my toes and peope dont care what they run over. I carry my debit card, a credit card(just in case), and a few loose dollars for the soda machine.
I always carry my purse. I usually wear a tshirt, sweatshirt, coat, gloves, jeans and some comfy shoes or boots(if it's snowing).
delphernina 8-28-2007, 5:12 PM I usually wear a short sleeve shirt, long sleeve shirt, and a lightweight fleecy jacket. The layers help keep me warm, but I can always peel something off if I start getting hot.
I've been lucky though and have never spent too much time waiting outside. I never carry a purse, I just keep all the important stuff in my front pocket, and/or with my big burly dh. :D
I always bring all the ads so I can pricematch (can you tell I usualy hit walmart first?) and sometimes, I'll stuff a granola bar or two in my jacket along with a diet coke.
Can't think of anything else offhand.
For those who will be waiting in lines, consider the all new GottaDeal.com Drawstring Backpacks (http://forums.gottadeal.com/showthread.php?t=80271) to hold your "supplies" and be the envy of all your fellow BF shoppers :D
sns128 8-28-2007, 10:36 PM Normally I just carry my cash, credit cards, and keys. I wear jeans, lots of layers, and really comfortable shoes. I normally have the ads in my back pockets or in my coat pockets.
Christy Garner 8-28-2007, 10:39 PM I always bring the ads to pricematch at walmart, wear jeans, a long sleeved t-shirt, tennis shoes and bring a jacket for standing outside in the FREEZING cold.
nedsw33 8-29-2007, 9:15 AM It varies for me, depending on the weather situation. Always pack on more clothes than necessary, that way there's no way to get too cold. Always be prepared!
Other than that, just the sale ads of the stores I want to go to, so I can remember everything I want.
sigrist_2000 8-29-2007, 9:40 AM It varies for me, depending on the weather situation. Always pack on more clothes than necessary, that way there's no way to get too cold. Always be prepared!
Other than that, just the sale ads of the stores I want to go to, so I can remember everything I want.
same here...and my shopping list of course...
Tracy72 8-29-2007, 9:45 AM I do take my purse...I hook it with the kids straps and put my coat and all the stuff on top of it.....I am a jeans person and sweatshirt with a tee under it and my tennis shoes....I need to just take my debit card but about my luck I get to a store and it would not accept it...lol.
kselzer 8-29-2007, 9:55 AM I usually layer too - shirt, hoodie, and coat if needed. I bought the hand warmers last year and then forgot them - hopefully they're still good for this year. I take all the ads with me. I've found in the past I needed and ad I didn't think I would. So I put all ads in a plastic bag and put the ones I'm definately going to on top. I also do the pricematch list for Walmart.
Some years I take a purse, sometimes not. But I always have granola bars and gatorade in the car, besides my debit card that is my must have every year. NO time for breakfast of course!! lol - usually slow down enough for lunch though.
misshayley 8-29-2007, 1:38 PM I usually just take my keys and wallet (which happen to be connected) and my ads. I always PM everything at WM and have never had any problems. I staple all of my ads together so that I don't lose any pages and I put sticky notes to mark the pages of the items I plan to price Match.
Illinoismom 8-29-2007, 2:59 PM I carry a purse, but money yeah I remember what that was stays in my pockets, I also carry a seperate bag with ads, and notes and walkie talkies
Deviant5ouL 8-29-2007, 6:54 PM ^ IllinoisMom beat me to it... I bring WALKIE TALKIES. I found that it was hard to hear a cellphone's ring inside a busy Best Buy, what with all the people and craziness. It's usually my brother and I as a two-man team with him in line while I bring round after round of goodies. One year, we filled up 3 of those yellow Best Buy carts, not including all the TVs and computer monitor boxes that are on the floor on the side of the carts. People around us in line thought we were half-crazy. Some of them thought that they should have employed the same tactic. Anyways, i digress... Bring WALKIE TALKIES. :D
Cargo pants also help in carrying Best Buy credit cards, Driver's License, and BF ads.
sunni0913 8-29-2007, 10:03 PM I carry my debit card, drivers license, and cell phone in my pocket. I wear tshirt, jeans, coat, gloves, stocking cap, and tennis shoes. I stop and get myself a hot chocolate and about 4 extras for the people in line around me..I have figured out that most are a lot more friendly if you give them something warm to drink.. Oh and I also take all ads with me so I can price match at walmart.
ms_mckenna 8-29-2007, 10:47 PM Is the one day of the year I do not carry a purse at least early in the morning. I have my debit card, cell, and, keys. DD usually carries the ads and the list. Last year we wore shorts! Usually we wear sweats and a tshirt or jeans and a tshirt.
Am always blown away by some of the women in line that took a lot of time to get dressed lol. We look presentable but just barely lmao. If I could get away with wearing my pj pants trust me I would. ;)
Kaarak 8-29-2007, 11:25 PM I normally wear a track suit, and carry a small purse over my shoulder with my debit card, credit card, check book, phone, keys, and gum.
jarerice 9-3-2007, 6:25 PM I take my purse. this year 1 car and 1 truck. A binder with all of the ads, my phone, candy and cash!!!! I wear a sweat shirt and jeans and comfy shoes!!!!
Outside waiting I take: blanket, hand/foot warmers, lawn chair.
Inside: fanny pack, gum, ads, credit card, tylenol, water bottle...........
carheel 9-3-2007, 11:14 PM i carry a sweater, coke and some type of food to munch on, i usally carry a debit card but this year i will carry half of money cash and the rest on a debit card, last year the debit machines ran so slow, so i will bring some cash.
jellybean051901 9-4-2007, 4:41 AM long johns, jeans, and sweatpants...two pairs of socks...a long sleeve tshirt, short sleeve tshirt, sweatshirt, and coat...a hat.....hand and feet warmers....hot chocolate..snacks...blankets...chairs...a book..the sale ads...my shopping list...and most importantly my plan of attack:cheesy:
I always drop all but the bottom layer and put the other junk away about 45 min before the store opens.
jellybean051901 9-4-2007, 4:42 AM Usually I stick my debit card in my jeans pocket
virgogirl67 9-8-2007, 11:19 PM Hubby and I tag team. We layer...the temperature always dictates how many layers. We keep everything in our pockets to keep our hands free to grab and go! Oh yeah, one thing that is always a must...COFFEE!!!
That's how we roll..... :gdcar: :gdmornincoffee:
amyers12345 9-8-2007, 11:47 PM I always hit WM first, in the small towns. Much more likely to get stuff, because the nearest city has only one TG, BB, and CC, and there are over 200,000 people in it.
They let us in early, so we don't need coats. I take walkie talkies, debit card in one pocket, license in the other, ads, and DH. Oh, and coffee.
stationchief 9-9-2007, 3:45 AM For line waiting I take my portable DVD player, maybe a blaket, snacks, and pocket full of money. Maybe a can of mace cuz you never know what wierdos are around 'ya. :gdparanoid:
Be careful out there, folks, and stay safe from theifs and predators.
I use to take just what fit in the pockets, but now as the wait and lines are longer, I take a fanny pack for the DS lite and MP3 player. I also schlepp a chair, my back's not what it used to be...
Jeans, T-shrit or sweatshirt depending on the weather, a small packpack, that I keep in front of me, not on my back....inside of it, keys, license, debit card, one or two credit cards that I will use and cash, like one of the other posters found cash is quicker when the machines slow down and my cigs...a must for calming the nerves after dealing with line breakers and rude people...lol...ads for price matching, and a diet coke in my hand...a must since I don't drink coffee...
Steakgoddess 9-12-2007, 2:36 PM Phone, Cards, keys, and ID
a T shirt, a light weight jacket, jeans, tennis shoes. Hey its still in the 90's here.. Now not to say it will be in Nov, but after all that running around + walmart lets you in without standing outside....
ads for price matching, debit card, cash, keys, ID card, and Driver License...what more does one need.
tdanette 9-13-2007, 5:50 PM I'm wearing my GD t-shirt and putting all essentials in the GD backpack! :gdyes: We never know how cold it will be on BF in NC but I'm sure I'll wear jeans and sneakers. Not sure I want to bother with a jacket though- bulk slows you down :D
jenrein 9-16-2007, 7:54 AM I like to have my hands free- I would have a cell in one pocket, credit cards and ads in another. Oh and coffee, but I would ditch that upon entering the store!
kennedy's mom 9-16-2007, 10:18 PM tee shirt, long sleeve shirt, sweater, Jeans, Hiking boots with hard toes (for buggy protection not kicking lol), wool socks, hat, gloves, hand warmers, and my winter coat. Layering works because after the first stop I am hot. I also hold a huge cup of coffee in line but always finish before going in the first store. I just put my debit card, cc, and DL in my jeans pocket clip my keys to my belt and keep my cell in my coat pocket.
stacy0479 9-16-2007, 11:39 PM I normally just wear jeans and a long sleeve shirt. I carry a purse that has all of my stuff in it. I hit Starbucks first, then Target, so I carry my ads with me too.
Gotta dress warm but it has to be easy to move. Wisconsin and Minnesota winters can be tough but you get used to it. I also bring my phone and wallet, ads for matching, etc. One thing no one mentioned on here is a camera (the cellphone camera doesnt always cut it). You see some pretty crazy stuff on BF and its always nice to get a quick pic or even a video of someone doing something dumb. There are sites that pay for videos like that.:D
ebony0421 9-17-2007, 2:45 AM I wear denim cargo capri pants, t-shirt, sneakers and a jacket. I carry a wallet thingy that goes around my neck with cash, and debit card and usually it's tucked under my t-shirt. I carry the ads with me, highlighted of course. We'll have a small tent and sleeping bag since we will try and be in line by 1pm on turkey day.:eyepoppin :eyepoppin
rldelo 9-17-2007, 10:34 AM I carry one of those wallet type purses.
This could have been my post......purse on a string, comfy shoes in Ohio......
Also, I make sure to take all the ads and my printed list of plan A, B, C, etc. with me. I leave the pile in the car, but the list stays with me. I have to stay on task!!!
I always just take the essentials...
- Mac Book Pro
- iPhone
- iPod
- Folding Chair
- WARM CLOTHES
= Sometimes extra clothes
- Maybe a magazine
- HAM Radio
= Since I hold my FCC license
- Food
- Starbucks Gift Card
= They're all over the place here in Louisville
- Anything else I can think of
Can't wait! :cheesy:
Booterbunz 9-18-2007, 12:46 AM I have learned to layer the clothing and make sure that what you do layer on are easy to remove during a restroom run! LOL
In your car (if you plan on staying the night in line), make sure that you have an extra blanket, umbrella, hat, hand warmers and a little lawn chair. On me, I carry a passport type carry thing that goes over my head with my ID and debit/credit card, spare key, and my ads because I like going to Walmart to price match most everything.
In a pocket, I always remember chapstick, small tube of lotion, cell phone, and a fingernail file because I seem to break nails during my black friday shopping! :tongue1:
jellybeansss76 9-18-2007, 8:51 AM I take the list of things I would like to buy, but seldom get to fill the entire list. I take my DH to push the cart and hold the debit card and money. I also leave him at stores to wait in line while I go on to the next store. He really loves that ;) . I will definately remember a coat this year after being stranded outside in the local Walmart parking lot looking for my car, while my husband waited in line. My husband dropped me off so I had no idea where the car was parked. Once I found it I realized I didn't have the keys. So obviously this year I will also carry an extra set of car keys too. Also, I think this year before BF I will make alot of new friends to wait in line with me so when the doors open we can form a side by side line as we run through the stores so no one can pass us. Just a thought! :D ;)
whitebuffalospirit 9-18-2007, 8:54 AM I BRING WALKIE TALKIES!!!!!! Every year the women of my husband's family all get togetherthe night before, lay out a plan and designate who will grab what for whom. We go to bed early and sleep in what we're gonna wear (OMG) shopping, so all we have to do is grab something to eat and drink and go. When we get there, we pass around the walkie talkies. Last year we each had a station that we stuck to like glue until those box cutters came out. I was manning the barbie doll/little people pallette, while my SIL stuck to the digital camera aisle like glue. We had someone near the portable DVD players, and near the easy bake ovens. We were out in like 30 minutes, and I was on my way to Kmart with plenty of time to still stand in line and wait to get in there. I grabbed a CPK and puppy and the Imaginext set, a Foreman grill for my MIL, and was out in 20 minutes, and was home before the kids were good and awake for the men :D
I ditch the purse and carry my cards and cash on me. This year is going to be more interesting since I'm due Oct. 11 for a c-section. Not sure how well I'll be able to scratch and claw if I take her with me, nor do I imagine the men will be eager to take on a newborn alone :D
Am I the only one upset that Wal-Mart isn't going to have Layaway anymore?? Maybe it won't be so bad this year as a result, or maybe it will be worse!
JazzMama 9-18-2007, 9:51 AM I take a wristlet that has my cell phone, key fob for my car/house key, credit card and debit card, and my list that I print off the BF site. I love it because it fits into the palm of my hand, but is secured to my wrist, so if anyone wants my stuff, they'll have a very hard time! ;)
Honestly, it depends on the Arkansas weather as to what I wear. Last year, it was pretty comfortable, so I just wore jeans and an oversized Cord shirt (I even ended up rolling up the sleeves), and my smooshy, comfy LL Bean mocs (these are always on my feet for BF). If it's cooler this year, I usually just layer so I can shed in the car if I get too hot running around.
Another Buckeye here- I wear layers as well.
I usually end up taking a sleeping bag and zipping it up to my face. It is heavenly in 10-15 degree weather.
We also bring folding chairs but take them back to the car 15 minutes or so before open.
I put all of my ads in a labeled binder too and just pull out the plastic sheet for whatever store we are at.
Tylenol is a must.
I
kellane26 9-19-2007, 11:54 AM Well, I haven't ever waited outside in line, so I just throw on a hat, wear a hoddie and put my debit card and cell phone in my pockets.
I'm a newbie to the site but a veteran BF shopper.
Stupid question...
What is a DH?
I Wear My PJ's, I Tag Team With My Husband and we have walkie Taklie feature on our cell phones, debit /creditcards, limited cash amnt. no purse just use a small case .I do the hand warmers too but its not too bad here in Seattle usually when I was on East Coast it was almost always freezing out.
MrsTrish 9-19-2007, 3:06 PM I'm a newbie to the site but a veteran BF shopper.
Stupid question...
What is a DH?
Dear husband, or damn husband depending on the mood ;)
swelsh524 9-19-2007, 5:31 PM My sister and I are already starting our plan of attack, but we usually dress in layers as well. T-shirt, sweatpants, sweatshirt, tennis shoes. I never wear a coat though it is too bulky and I feel like it slows me down. I take all the ads, my purse around my shoulder, my debit card, credit cards, money ( always have some cash you never know whose machines might be down), gum, candy, and our every year tradition of stopping for coffee and hot chocolate.
MustangSally 9-19-2007, 7:23 PM My VAN :eyepoppin
Love,
Beth
Princess7915 9-19-2007, 8:29 PM Every year I wish I could get away from taking my purse with me but I can't manage to break away from "needing it." I never take more than $20 in cash because everyone pretty much takes a card now except for a few little vendors in the mall. But I only carry the necessities in my purse into the stores and leave all the extras in the car. I'm a jeans and tee shirt girl. Some years it's not even cold enough here in Virginia Beach that you need more than a light jacket - we dont' camp out anywhere so we're only outside for a little bit before a store opens!
cherry33778 9-19-2007, 8:50 PM Previously, I take my purse with all ads in hand (just in case I may want to pricematch), now i'm thinking of getting a fannypack. I usually were my old comfy nike shox, just in case I have to make a run for it, and some nice and comfy jeans or sweats with a shirt under my sweatshirt. But thank God I'm in FL bc all that other stuf is just to heavy, and with me being 5'10 and slim I can see and get to everything. ;)
mommyofanangelb 9-19-2007, 11:19 PM I try not to take a purse or big coat because I know I;ll end up with tons of bags. So I just bring a sweater or hoodie, about $50 cash and then of course my credit card and cell phone.
jackpotladi 9-23-2007, 11:17 AM Walkie-Talkies are great idea! Too bad I didn't have them last yr. I took hubby with me for his very first BF & lost him inside the store for over an hour. You wouldn't believe the chaos that followed before I found him.
MICKEY3601 9-24-2007, 11:25 AM COFFEE is the #1 thing I have to have while waiting in line. Then it is the ads & a backpack. Having free hands is pretty much a MUST!! :) !!
I wear comfy sweater and jeans. My purse and a stroller if there is not shopping carts because my 22 month old is with me.
STacy
Turtle Mommy 9-29-2007, 5:13 PM Last year it was cool so I wore jeans and a tshirt but in years past it was always a sweatshirt in the am with a tshirt under neath with shorts. I usually have my debit card, keys, cash and phone in my pocket. I also have a list.
sweettooth65 9-30-2007, 12:19 PM I put my wallet, with cards and cash in my pants pocket.I usually wear knit pants, sneakers, and a t-shirt-to be comfortable and cool.I will wear a sweat jacket with pockets-to stash my lists and ads in,and a light coat, which I take off and dump in my sister's van, before we enter the stores. We usually bring water and caffeinated drinks with us,then grab some kind of breakfast after the 6am-11am rush is over.:hungry: Then it is off to shop more.:holiday08
amickeyfan 9-30-2007, 1:20 PM My money, my credit card and the most valuable thing... my shopping list that I generated from this site :yup: :yup: :lolrun: :gd_dollar :gd_dollar :gd_dollar
I am in sneakers (so I can run :gdlol: ) jeans and a t-shirt. Since I live in SW FL, I usually do not need a coat or jacket. I might take a sweat shirt with me and leave it in the car. I put my money in my pockets and credit card & shopping list in my fanny-pac :yup: . The only other time I use a fanny pac is when I go to a theme park :wizard:
kimmie0712 10-1-2007, 3:11 PM I usually wear jeans, long sleeve shirt, a hooded sweatshirt, and athletic shoes. I carry my purse usually, but I may just carry a small wallet and wear it around my neck. :)
Miss Star 10-1-2007, 4:17 PM I wear jeans, a t-shirt, tennis shoes. If I'm going to be standing in line I'll wear my hoodie and some gloves.
I always carry a purse but this year I'll probably take my new L.A.M.B messenger bag, it holds a lot lol - which will carry ads, money, lists, paper & pen, chapstick, bottle water, snacks, and everthing my mom needs which will probably be keys, cell phone, and money because she won't want to carry a purse lol
HBrewer 10-1-2007, 6:54 PM I forgo the purse on BF, dress comfy/warm, and make sure to wear GOOD SHOES! :yup:
imginah 10-2-2007, 10:53 AM I dress in layers and bring something to keep me occupied like a handheld solitaire game. One year I brought four lawn chairs, a huge cooler filled with coffee and six dozen donuts. I parked myself right up front next to the doors and sold all the goodies. I then donated the proceeds to the local giving tree. I took down everyone's names who bought coffee and/or donuts and put their name down as a donater too. I might do the same this year, my son is all grown and I don't know what I'll do otherwise!
mcapel4444 10-2-2007, 5:46 PM Usually my ads, a notebook with my list, my purse, and some kind of warm drink. :) Depending if we camp outside of Best Buy this year, I might add some warm blankets, a chair, and leftover Turkey sandwiches.
mommy2g 10-7-2007, 11:17 AM For the past 2 years we have camped outside of Best Buy and if the ad is worth it, we plan on doing it again. So we bring, a lawn chair or 2, sleeping bags, blankets, hats, gloves, warm boots, lots of layers to ditch before we get into the store, the warmest possible coat (we are talking South Dakota winter here), some snacks, games to keep the girls busy before they go to bed in the back of the mini-van (we adults take turn, one stays with them, while one waits in line), a book. As far as money goes, no purse, I just take credit cards and they go in my pocket.
shay_n_sc 10-9-2007, 2:27 PM Last year I know there were people getting robbed at gunpoint during the wee hours of the morning so people taking cash - be careful!
I wear jeans and sneakers and keep my credit/debit card in my pocket. Thats about it. Its never really cold enough in SC around BF to worry about coats, gloves, etc or either my adrenaline is pumping and I just don't get cold :)
lisajonathan00 10-9-2007, 6:41 PM I always have my purse with only my one wallet which holds my liscense, cc, debit card, cash and my keys attached to the purse on the inside with a clip. I wear a t-shirt with a light jacket and pair of sweat pants on. (I change into jeans or capris after my first stop) It could be snowing and I still will. My coat is off about 10 min. after I start. I wore flip flops before which is all I ever wear, but wont do that again, some one broke one by stepping on it one year and I had to go around bare footed until my sister found a pair of flip flops for me. LOL that was funny.
lisajonathan00 10-9-2007, 6:53 PM Oh yea. I forgot I put alll of my ads and list in my purse as well. I have a purse I ONLY use for BF!
My hipster with insulin pen, tester, MaxPlex bar (just in case), cell phone, driver's license and one credit card.
Bobbi0125 10-10-2007, 8:36 AM Unfortunately here in WV it is usually cold so in the past I have on the whole nine yards-thermal underwear, jeans, a t-shirt, a hoodie, a coat, hat, scarf and gloves (of course depending on how cold it is.) Last year however we had our new Super WalMart and they let us stand right inside the doors (bc they are open 24 hours) so this year I may think twice about all the extra clothes. It gets really hot with all those clothes on pretty quick. I also keep my money, credit/debit cards, and lists in my pocket. No purse bc it is just too hard to hold on to. I also plan out in my head where I am going 1st, 2nd, etc. and if there are others with me we really try to help each other out.
tlock1945 10-10-2007, 9:40 AM I only take my purse and coffee for in the car. We don't camp out as we are lucky enough to be in a small area that we can get there around 5:00 and get what we want.
rsb7706 10-10-2007, 10:16 AM i usually bring my purse, but it has to be a messenger bag type. i bring the usual...CC, cash, debit, cell phone, and i bring my pda with my list on it and update it as i go. As far as layering i wear long sleeves and a puffy vest so i don't have the restriction of a coat.
mgreen 10-11-2007, 3:04 AM I usually take my sister, cash and cards for shopping (carried in my front pockets), dental floss for after breakfast and lunch, my id and insurance card (in case I get ran over by a mob of angry shoppers), my cell phone for those across the store communications, all of the relevant BF ads with the appropriate markings and a list of the items I plan on purchasing. I hang my car keys from my belt loop on my pants. We have tried taking other people with us, but BF shopping is not for amatuers.;)
cdeuser 10-11-2007, 10:20 AM I take my sister, my niece and my cousin. We all take turns standing in different lines and we all have our cellphones. Since we have kids of all different ages and want different things at different stores we help each other with our shopping. I love Black Friday and we almost always go to Walmart first and price match. We have a new Walmart in town that we will be trying out this year. I can't wait. We spend Thanksgiving day after lunch pooring over the ads and getting our lists together so we all know what everybody is looking at in each store. Then we figure out where to go first (Walmart), second, third etc. Sometimes we just run in a store for one or two items but we're in line forever. That gives us time to plan or replan if we have to. Also, since some of the stores don't open as early as others here we have time to get from one to the next. We pack a cooler in the car with stuff to drink and have muchies in there too for breakfast. We usually stop and eat at a buffet for lunch and then go to a different city (Kansas City) for afternoon shopping at the malls.
rwimbish 10-11-2007, 10:33 AM I use one of those travel passport holders that slips around my neck. I never have to worry about walking away from it or losing it. I carry my debit card, list and car key in there. Then I bring the sale ads.
I carry the same thing!!
Havoc904 10-11-2007, 2:42 PM Loose fitting pants that are easy to move about in, Boots to avoid people smashing my feet, regular clothing depending on weather, my iPod, and a 4 pack of redbull. My wallet of course. A list by store of what items I need from each.
rickjs 10-17-2007, 10:53 PM I bring a hoodie or my puerto rico coat, long pants and converse, and chicken noodle soup to go.
JEEZ ITS COLD ON BLACK FRIDAY
Mikesgirl 10-18-2007, 8:39 AM i wear a long sleeve tshirt jeans or sweats use my smallest purse carry only cell phones, cash, chapstick, and keep a small bottle of lotion in the car. i will stash DH somewhere in the store that will be most helpful to me..
diecastbeatdown 10-18-2007, 11:31 AM this year i may finally be bringing a laptop if i can get it working. i have two dead apples but each of them have parts enough to make one working laptop. im gonna take this weekend to work on getting it done.
i posted here already but can't stress enough how important it is to bring all the ads, i ended up bringing a backpack and stuffing them all inside along with a list that i made for what im buying. also gives you something to do if you dont have a laptop or are alone.
Illinoismom 10-18-2007, 12:22 PM I know i answerd this before, I take all the ads, a list that has everything i am after, with a note on what ad they are on for easier price matches, Walkie talkies,( 6 ) of them, myself, 3 of my four kids, the nieghbor girl, my daughters friend and my mother in law, Our Walmart never closes so my kids are placed in places where the items i need are, my mother and the friends two, I stand in line if there is a big ticket item i wanted, like the Laptop two years ago, Then after my children score what i need they will then run and get things for the people Ive befriended in the line. so they do not miss out on stuff, that year it was gameboys and cabbage patches something I didnt need. I am in Walmart about 12:00am or 1:00 and out by 5:30-6:00 then on to the next store,
katiesmommy01 10-18-2007, 12:35 PM I usually layer too - shirt, hoodie, and coat if needed.
OMG that is the best idea...i usually start dragging from not eating or drinking for so long! I'm going to put some gatorade and begals or something in my car ahead of time this year...thanks! You'd think that would be obvious...but not for me ;-)
sinvids 11-15-2007, 1:40 PM Lots of people saying jeans, but if you live in a cold environment once jeans get cold, they stay cold! Better to wear cotton or nylon, they retain the heat and are still very comfy and mobil.
kbabral 11-15-2007, 2:00 PM I take my purse, coffee and breakfast! I wear sweats, a tee shirt and a jacket. I used to wear flip flops (Black Friday used to be pretty tame around here and you could show up 20 mins before opening) but this year I'll wear socks and my crocs!
dad2trips 11-15-2007, 2:22 PM Last year I had the people in front and behind me in line with tents. So this year I am taking mine too! Also will have a camp chair, portable DVD player, my Archos media player (will alternate w/DVD for charge cycles in the vehicle), BB ad, magazines, thermos, and cash.
Planning on about a 17 hour campout so I will have the porta pottie in my vehicle and some snacks for the duration.

Good point...
I think we will bring: hot chocolate (I wish there was a way to keep it warm), credit cards, cell phone, DH, Chairs, Yatzee, flashlights, the laptop with a good movie, books, snacks, sleeping bags, possibly a small pillow?, possibly a propane heater, possibly walkie talkies, WARM CLOTHES, THE LIST, the ads...my husband has started to call it urban camping. :smirk:
This will be his first BF, my 4th BF, but first time camping. We plan on getting to CC around 9pm. I really hope we will have nice people around us so we can go to the bathroom etc. Weather is going to be 20's and snowing...so that should be fun:o
Am I forgetting anything?
Question: How do those of you who bring tents set them up on the sidewalk?
Good luck to you all!:D
tootsieroll23 11-15-2007, 3:10 PM Van, ads, DH and charge card!!
I was thinking of bringing my dlp projector this year and projecting movies on the side of the building. We always have a laptop to watch dvd's, plenty of warm clothes, food, drink, sleeping bags, chairs, games, and of course money and lists. There's a few of us that go and I always set out a gameplan for everyone so we are totally efficient as a team. It's important to get what you want fast and get in line so you're not stuck in that one store for 4 hours while deals at other stores pass you by.
flyjar 11-15-2007, 3:36 PM The usual, cell phone, wallet, sun glasses, keys and "the list" containing stores with products and prices of the items most wanted.
cassgurlie04 11-15-2007, 4:02 PM i take my bank card, keys, coffee, and thats about it. usually wear sweat pants and a few shirts in layers to take off it to warm. oh yea and leave your sanity at home cuz you'll lose it anyhow :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy:
jenrob29 11-15-2007, 4:10 PM Defintly wear layers of clothing, so you can peel them off when you get hot. I do not suggest carrying a purse. I try to avoid getting a cart if possible, that way it's easier to get around a store. Last year my friend and I packed an aircompresser and a big tool kit from one end to the other at sears, lol. Carts take up too much room, and carrying a purse is too much to keep track of. stuff as much in your pockets as possible. I also remove the remote lock from my keychain and put it in my pocket instead of having to carry bulky keys. We also take every BF ad with us into every store. If you have a fanny pack, that is handy, I just think it looks dorky, lmao. Be sure to wear a coat or sweatshirt that has plenty of pockets. That way when you are in line waiting an hour to pay, you can check to see about price matching. LAst but not least don't forget your money/credit/debit cards. I did that one year, I got in line to pay and realized i had left it in the truck, thankfully the line was a mile long and my friend was there with me to stay in line with my stuff so i could run outside and get it. Happy shopping !
princess01 11-15-2007, 8:19 PM Well, my sister and I go together every year. We dress pretty warm, but don't camp out. We put our coats in the cart over top of our purchases while shopping and one of us ALWAYS stays with the cart. Normally, after the first stop we leave the coats in the car, but it was so cold last year that we wore them into every store. We've been taking my Expedition the last few years because I have an automatic start on my remote. That is soooo nice. While we are waiting in line to pay, I just push the button and it's all warmed up by the time we get in. We take some ads but they normally stay in the car. On Thanksgiving, we sit down with them all and make our lists of exactly what we need at each store. We actually both carry two lists. One with the people we are buying for and what we want to get them. I type this one in a table in Word and print it out. I also add the amount I spend on each person behind their name and then I write the price beside each item to be sure I don't overspend. I tend to have a problem with that. ;) Then the second list, I write it on the back of my first list, has the stores listed in the order we are stopping at them and what we need at each store. After we come out of each store, we cross off the items on our lists and then head to the next one. We normally stop for sodas after I first store, and sometimes a quick breakfast at McD's. I always carry a purse over my shoulder, but am extremely aware of it and make sure zipper is closed and towards the front at all times. Last year I carried mostly cash and just a few credit/debit cards. I really liked having the cash though. It helped keep me on budget for sure. Not sure what I'll do this year yet.
love a deal 11-15-2007, 8:25 PM Two things: Cash & Coffee:tired:
bringadozen 11-15-2007, 8:47 PM if it's a BB BF, then it's 2 folding chairs, a blanket, warm clothes, a thermos of coffee and credit cards. Although this year we're buying BB gift cards to use from a grocery store that's knocking 20 cents per gallon off of the price of gas for every $50 gift card you buy. That'l lwork out to $1.60 per gallon off the price per gallon of gas!!!
heavenlyvalo 11-16-2007, 11:34 AM This will be a long post. Christy & I attack this like we are BF navy seals. We plan everything. We've gone together for 4 years. Yup since she was 9 yrs old. Let me tell you she is like Puss in Boots. Cute as can be but she WILL get want she wants.
I have a fleece shirt with zipper pockets. BIG zipper pockets. My keys are attached to my belt loop on my pockets. With a spare set of keys attached to Christy (my 13 yr old cousin). She has her hoody on with pockets but no zipper so she carries food non-important inexpensive things. She also stashes our hats, extra gloves with fingers in them, and scarves once she has room and we put them back on once we are outside the store. We have gloves without fingers in them we keep our money in. We have 2 hunting chairs that fold up and hand warmers. Plus these blanket/coat wraps things for waiting in line. I'm not sure if this year we are taking the portable DVD player since no guys will be with us. You can never be too careful. We do our make-up in line cuz we get bored. Then Christy goes and put the make-up cases in the car. We do pretty much anything to fill the time. I’m ADHD and shes 13. We need to be amused or someone could get hurt! Also one thing no one else mentioned is a small garbage bag for candy wrappers, empty drinks, and stuff. I hate having nowhere to put that stuff. 20 minutes before the doors open, Christy runs to the truck to put away the blacketcoats, chairs, trash and anything else we don't need. Then on us is our clothers debit card, cash in the gloves, ads, shopping list, and cell phones. Also have have our angel tree kids that we get early for inspiration. We put our cell phones on a chain on viberate around our neck inside our shirt. We never call unless we HAVE to. Like someone is hurt or took one of our items. Keys on our belt loops. We are going to take some hot chocolate with ginger in it to settle our stomacs. Now as for comunication. You can’t use 2 way radios here cuz everyone has them and it gets confusing. All channels are full. Trying to answer a cell phone while shopping is BF suicide.
Plan for inside the store. We NEVER use carts unless we have to. We use basket if need be. If we have to use a cart someone will get in line with the cart. We don’t like to use the cart because it takes longer. Our adverage per store if we are there when it opens is 4 minutes. Seriously we time it. Our best so far is 2 minutes and 24 seconds.
Is this post too long and involved cuz I can't help it?! We wait all year for this!
Renegade03 11-19-2007, 8:35 PM I definelty Taking My Coat an extra sweater that i would leave in the car
