View Full Version : How much do you spend on BF?

In the past I have spent between $500 - $600 but this year I am buying larger items so I think my budget will be around $1000 - $1500.

I already have the Wii for my kids which is my big purchase for them. I'm hoping to find a good deal on some TV's this holiday season.

I noticed this question brought up in another BF thread and it got me thinking. Now I'm curious on how much y'all typically spend on BF. Do you have a predetermined set amount each year or do you just decide as you shop? Does it depend on the ads? Does it vary from year to year or is it usually fairly consistent???

Let's hear it!

(I'm still thinking about my answers...)

it does vary year to year.... usually it's about 200.00

Last year I hardly spent any(under 50). I really want to spend a lot of $$$, but I just haven't found much to buy the last few years.

with two boys ages 11 and 7 I spend well above 300 dollars just on that day alone

It depends on the deals. If I don't buy a computer, normally I don't spend any more than $200 or $300.

I usually spend a couple hundred. I wasnt impressed with the deals last year.

nedsw33
8-26-2007, 9:19 PM
Yeah, I'm kinda thinking that it just varies for me. Last year we didn't spend much at all, because we didn't get any 'big ticket' items. Probably spent under $50.
This year, on the other hand, we need a new computer AND a new digital camera, so I expect we'll easily spend a few hundred $$$. Hopefully there'll be some SWEET deals on those items... (fingers crossed).

Can't wait!!!

Last year, we spent a lot. Cuz we got a Samsung LCD TV.
But normally, I think we blow about $500 on that day. I try
and just buy for everyone, but it depends on the deals too.

I'm with the $200 - $300 group. I just can't understand how people can go on the marathon bf shopping sprees that they do, I'm ALWAYS out of cash and back at home by noon. They must spend a LOT of money to be shopping until evening. :eyepoppin

Last year I spent about $1000.00 but we got a laptop, TV, the little stuff was only about $200.00. The year before was about $400.00 and this year depending on the sales I am guessing at about $500.00..;)

I would say anywhere from $200-$500, depending on what kind of deals I find

aerosmithgirl
8-27-2007, 6:54 PM
Whatever my check is from my Christmas Club account at work. Should be around $900 this year. I "upped" my amount last year. This way it's really not money coming "out of pocket". I'm so glad we have this at work or I would not be going out at all!!

christib327
8-27-2007, 8:54 PM
It all depends. The year before last was probably around $500 or so. I didn't buy anything big, but we were out all day, so I just kind of bought whatever. Last year I barely spent anything. There wasn't anything I couldn't live without and I was only gone for maybe 2 hours, so I think I spent around $75. This year will probably be $500 or more. There's nothing I need or really want all that bad yet, but I have about that in gift cards at the moment and I've been saving them for black friday.

blakes_mommy
8-27-2007, 9:44 PM
This year who knows!! Maybe 300. I am ebaying a lot for my husband so that takes the total down a lot!

I don't know! It's different every year. Anywhere from $100 to $700 so far.

Bunniq
8-28-2007, 9:22 PM
This year will be much lower than last year. So far the budget stands at 300.00, but that may change lower or higher depending on any overtime I can get my hands on before November.

sns128
8-28-2007, 10:31 PM
Maybe $200 - $400 depending on what I'm buying. If I'm not getting a "big" item then it's on the low end.

TOO MUCH! ;)

I don't remember what I spent last year, as it ended up being combined with stuff I picked up for my sister, and vice versa, so I don't remember that part of it...the year before I remember though, and it was $300! I never spend that much in a day (unless it's a big ticket item), so I had to sit and tally it up, because it seemed like I had a million bags! Had a bit of buyer's remorse, since some of the stuff was for me, but I must've gotten over it by last BF, because I STILL bought some stuff for myself!;)

8-29-2007, 11:27 PM
I try to have at least $500.00 set aside. I figure out what my budget is when the adds start coming out, as compared to how much holiday shopping I still have left to do.

I do almost all of my christmas shopping on that day but manage to stay around $500. It just depends how much cash I can get my hands on as I refuse to use anything but cash that day.

I may have to work this year though which will totally stink. I'll be dog tired by the time I get off since I'll have to go shopping before my shift starts. :D

8-31-2007, 1:10 PM
I did most of my shopping on BF last year so I spent over $500 I am sure. I have Christmas Club this year too so I should have around $900 to spend It sounds like a lot but I have 6 kids 2 sets of inlaws, my parents, nieces and nephews. If I can add more I will otherwise I have to stick to the budget (until BF I am going to try to scrimp and buy some stuff so I can do a little more, I really want to get dd 19 the acoustic guitar she wants)

8-31-2007, 1:58 PM

9-1-2007, 10:46 AM
I'd have to search the '06 BF archives here to remember exactly what I spent last year but I'm pretty sure it was under $500. This year I may end up buying a couple of big ticket items so it may be more like $1000.

We spent about $2500 last year but I did get the 32" LCD Westinghouse from Best Buy $479 as my new computer monitor. Thinking of going to 37" or 42" this year:D .(hopefully DW will let me);)

kc4braves
9-4-2007, 12:11 PM
We only have a budget for the kids of about $500-$600 all total and we don't usually find everything on BF. This year we are looking for more electronics type gifts so may spend more this year. I'm also hoping for a lap top for me. So we may end up spenidng the $600 that day...just not all for them. We also like to look at things we NEED that go on sale that time of year like small kitchen apppliances, etc.

berry1014
9-4-2007, 12:51 PM
It varies each year, depending in what I need to get and what is on sale but the average is around $250. Sometimes less , sometimes more.

stationchief
9-4-2007, 1:40 PM
It varies each year. All depends how much I can save, when I can start saving, and how much in Best Buy Bucks (McD's Monopoly Game pieces I send for) I can get this year. ;)

Deviant5ouL
9-4-2007, 3:23 PM
The Sale Price that I got my items for was all-in-all worth: $5293.59
The Actual Price that my items retailed for at that time was all-in-all worth: $9534.79

That means for Black Friday 2006, for items that I would've bought throughout the year anyway, I had a Grand Total Savings of: $4241.20

:D

Last year I spent around 600-800 dollars. This year will be the first time I won't be able to buy big items so I guess I won't be spending that much unless it's small. (We'll be in Kansas for thanksgiving for the first time in 10 years. We're driving so with three kids it'll be hard to hide any big presents.)

Last year was probably about 200 but I didnt get that much shopping done. Really disappointed in the deals. If I can get 60 % of my chrismas shopping done on BF I am a happy camper!! I never really have a $$ in mind, it just takes what it takes to get it done with out going overboard. The better the sales, the happier I am and DH as well!!

I go all out on Black Friday and evey year and I spend more than I did the previous year. Last year, I spent a little over $450. This year tho, my dd is in to Hannah Montana (what little girl isnt) so I think I'll spend at the minimum $600.

jellybean051901

9-20-2007, 5:41 AM
I dont get any big items that day. I dont want to stress about getting that one big thing- I have more fun getting a lot of the littler things so I would say $500 or so...I am shopping for 3 kids and extended family.

stacy0479
9-21-2007, 1:16 AM
I got a $400 Thanksgiving bonus from work last year, that is what I spent on BF. No big ticket items. The year before, I think I spent about $500, again, nothing big but a GB Advance. This year DS wanted the Nintendo DS and grandma bought it for him over the summer, so I lucked out this BF!

I should spend about $500-$600 on BF this year.

elena_398
9-21-2007, 12:59 PM
I don't have a set price. I do make a list to make sure I don't forget anything, but I always end up purchasing some items last minute.

I try to have a few hundred at least saved before heading out on BF. I dont like to charge anything so I pay cash or use my debit.

I buy throughout the year so BF is extras. Never really buy tons on BF. Around $100-$150.

I think overall I spend roughly $600 for my kids. Maybe more. (2 kids)

I allow for up to 600. This year I'm going to go waaaaaaaaaaaaay over that, IF I am able to score the big items we all want. (laptop, LCD HDTV, Camcorder, Fur Real Pony) So probably around 1200 with all the other items I want/find.

2005 - cant remember but I think it was about $500 split up between me and my hubby

2006 - I alone spent $600 just on my hubby at Best Buy on black friday - video games and dvds, and then around another $200 at other stores, and then he spent I think around $200 on me the whole day and then another $200 between the 2 of us for the rest of the family. So altogether around $1200.

This year, hubby is on deployment so its just me and my sister thats going this yr. I will have around $800 for BF. Weither or not I spend it all, who knows. If not, well the rest is going towards one of my hubbys credit cards or I'll save it for christmas shopping for like in December.

10-7-2007, 1:36 PM
Just depends on the deals.....I will have around 700-900 dollars to spends from Xmas club account and overtime worked. I would love to spend it on some great deals but if not I will just hold it and wait until I come across some deals after BF. I have bought a few items over the past few months so I am watching deals now as well...so I really hope to just be able to pick up last minute things on BF. I won't buy the PSP now....Hoping for a good deal on BF!!!!:smirk:

We usually spend $1500-$2000 every year. We mostly go after electronics; TV's, camera's, camcorder's, PC's, and stereo equipment. Not much on other stuff.

This year we are going after a few 42" Plasmas and a XBOX 360 system

usually 250-500 in the last 4 years, when tracking deals all year long it's easier not to splurge.

I think my budget will be relatively low. I too shop all year round for Christmas. Though mainly I don't do it until end of summer and beyond. I only buy things that are esp good prices, otherwise I do wait for BF and after.

This year, I estimate I'll spend $400 max on BF. I don't have set items in mind though, only that I'll probably have to shop for DH, the kids (stocking stuffers mainly) and then my Dad.

I have about $700 from my Christmas Club this year, so that's my Christmas budget. I usually do all of my shopping on BF, but I usually end up over-buying and selling things to my various family members to give each other. Since I bought a house this year, I've had my eye on some bigger ticket house stuff (mostly kitchen stuff) that I might have to splurge on. My family doesn't do BF, so if I want expensive stuff on sale, I have to buy it myself.

It really depends. Last year I spent about $3000 -- 2 laptops, 1 desktop, a 32" LCD, about $1k in toys for my daughter, digital cameras, and a bunch of other stuff. Sounds like a lot, but you wouldn't believe the amount of stuff I got for that much. I also saved at least $2000.

This year, I will probably spend a lot more. In addition to toys and electronics for my daughter, I am looking for another desktop, a projector and screen for my media room, 2 home theater systems, stereo system, a camcorder, some Wii games for myself, and any other great deals I can find (new house :) ) I was 8th in line last year. Looking to for similar placement again.

I can usually keep my costs to aroun $200-$300(searching for deals and using this site). This yr I am purchasing some other stuff for myself and it will probably be more like $500

About $1600, which is by far the most I've ever spent on BF. $1500 of it was for me though.:D I did almost all of my Christmas shopping throughout the year but saved up to buy me a new TV for BF. Got the 42" plasma and the Garmin nuvi 660 from BB. :woot2::groovin::g_dance:

I spent around $1000, but that is my main buying day. I got 16 of the 24 presents I had to get (family) and bought for my 4 kids. I am done with the oldest 2, but now have to get a few more things for my toddler and baby. I still have some odds and ends left too like stocking stuff and candy, but all in all I am done!! I have spent as little as $200 on BF before, but it just depends every year how much of a budget I have. Last year I got a credit card with a $2000 limit and I spent almost all of that on BF and saturday.

Quoting myself here.. I spent around $325, but $75 of it was on myself (much needed clothes that were on SALE).

That doesn't include the $62 I spent on TRU's web site, which I only technically paid $2.99 OOP (had $60 in GC's).
