Last year I shopped for my sister in law in PA. I was in Fla. She wanted a laptop and I had to spend 5 hours in the computer line :yuck: .. This year I want a laptop for my self but I have no plans on shopping for anyone else except my mom :cheesy:

i think it kinda just depends on the situation and the person who's asking.

i will pick up Christmas gifts for family members though, if its something that applies.

One of my MIL's ( sometimes both) gives me money to shop for her gifts for my family, if my mom is out of the US I will do the same for her. Sometimes a co-worker, a friend or a cousin will ask me to get something and I will if I can(and usually do) but it is not top priority. My dad has been my best helper (standing in line at a different store) in the past, I am hoping he will be here this year. He gets so excited when he gets a good deal. It must run in the family!!

I always offer to pick stuff up for my Cousin-in-law, but he never takes me up on it (we're both computer geeks).

I will if it's someplace I am already going...I figure if they can't get up like I do to get the deal, then they don't get the deal, unless it's not out of my way...

And along those lines, here's a good laugh, for those of us that have been doing BF, even one time...my dh's best friend is the optometrist at Wal-Mart back home, and he wanted to get one of the laptops on BF, and thought that if he went to work a little bit early (mind you, 8 instead of 9 in the morning), that he'd still get one...when he told me that, I looked at him like he had two heads and an eyeball in the center of each forehead, and said, "You've never been out on Black Friday, have you?" Needless to say, he got no laptop!

I will pick up items for others as long as I am going to that store. I don't go out of my way.

I will if I'm already going to that store. I will get what I am going for 1st then I will get theirs. I won't go to a store just to get someone else's stuff. If I am getting up and out of the house (usually with my 3 boys) then they can do the same!

I've picked up a few things for my mom in years past. She works in retail and there's no way she can ever get that day off. She's the only one though. I guess if someone else asked me I'd consider it, but it would depend on who and also depend on why they're asking me instead of getting out there themselves.

I pick up things for my Mother to give as presents not a big deal because they are always for my boys so if she didn't buy it then I would have too. She just told me that she will be getting the boys laptops this year so that will free me up as to what I will be getting them...:yay:

I shop for my sister and my mom. We sit down on Thanksgiving night and they give me the money and list of what they want.

I will for my grandma. She is too old to get out there with the crowds. We usually pick her up a little later in the morning though and she will go out with us then for a while.

yeah I am ok with shopping for Mom and those who can't get out, but I will have friends and other relatives who want me to shop for them when they can easily just get up and go themselves. So I usually say if what they want is at a store that I am going to and I can get my hands on it without a lot of hassle then yes I will get it, if not then o well.

On Thanksgiving the moms in our family (myself, daughters & daughter-inlaw)go through the adds, even thought I usually have the list in advance. Then on BF I start with anything that can be ordred online usually with free shipping. As for the stores last year we each went to different stores with cell phones & what someone could not get the others bought. Worked out great! We even ended up with 1 or 2 extra digital cammeras! As for friends I give them the link to the BF site & their on their own! What I buy alone usually fills my car & alot of items have rebates & I do not want to deal with separate reciepts it's too crazy the way it is!

I usually buy for my grandmother for my own children. She gives me the money and I get presents from her for THEM.

If another family member needs something, I'll get it for them. I go by myself so its quicker that way. In and out for my stuff and someone else. I won't though get an entire list (I tell them my stuff comes first then I'll go grab theirs.) Only fair, right ??!!

Try not to.. In the past I shopped for my Aunt was bedridden but since she passed now me and my mom just shop for ourselves... we try and hit so many stores that you grab what you want, get in line, and get out.. no time for anything else.. especially for my lazy cousin who always ask because she doesn't want to get up that early!!

dmmiller
8-27-2007, 8:42 AM
Not really, I just try and convince them to shop with me.
But they're not too crazy about getting up that early.
SO, its they're loss. LOL

I always shop for my mom and my mil, because I always split the kids up and they babysit them for me. They're not quite spry enough to handle bf, AND I get the benefit of not having to worry about my kids while I'm out shopping. Oh, and I get to come home, take a nap, and wrap presents while the kids are away. It's a win/win situation for us.

I do pick up an occasional item for a friend of mine if I happen to be shopping at a store that she needs something for one of her kiddos. But other than that, I kind of feel like if someone wants something - they should have to fight for it themselves. I'm not being grumpy - its just that I don't use carts on bf, and the more stuff I pick up for other people, then its more likely I'll have to handle the crowd with a cart.

Cart + Black Friday = no fun

We usually partner up and go to separate stores, so I will be picking up things for people who are getting things for me. But the only person who I will actually shop for is my grandma.

Sometimes my sister or my hubby.

Sometimes for my brother or my mom. My mom hates shopping, so I'll offer to pick up something for the grandkids if she really wants it. My brother only has Sundays off, so he's usually dead tired on BF.

I will for my mom if she wants something at the stores I'm going to. Last year I did for my sil but she just moved out of state so I don't see that being an issue this year.

I will pick up things for my mom, but that's about it. Between all the stuff my sister and I buy, there's no room for other peoples stuff!LOL

I would shop for my mom if she asked, but she never has. She doesn't mind paying retail! Gasp!

The only person I will shop for is my mom. She will be watching the kids for us on black friday so it only seems fair. She went shopping on BF with us twice but didn't care for it so she opted to babysit for us instead.

My next door neighbor had to work last Black friday so I took her list and bought the things she needed. She had so much fun telling her co-workers about her personal shopper and how she didnt miss a thing

I have in the past, but I try not to make a habit of it, and of course it has to be a store on my shopping list.

I give lots of warnings that I may not be able to get the item so if it is a must have they may venture out on their own.

Well, the past few years I've sat down with my sisters and our families after Thanksgiving dinner and gone through all the ads. Then we planned our attack. My wife works in retail so I've been the one to go out and shop as she always works BF. I actually found that I enjoy it (not so much the shopping, but watching the people go nuts in the stores and on lines.) So it's come to pass that I've helped my sisters do shopping for their kids, and last year I went out and was the DS (designated shopper) for a number of family members hitting stores that they couldn't be at. Funny, I didn't get a thing for me or do my shopping. (I had done it all on-line earlier.) I helped them with their shopping... and will probably do it again this year.

I just love shopping on BF so I will shop for anyone who gives me a list and money. My only rules are that i get the money up front and my list comes first.

I pick up a few things for others, but my shopping comes first...usually it is something I am getting also so that helps and they will pick up for me if they are going somewhere I am not.

If it's not for anything big then yes I would, but if it was for a laptop or lcd then I definately wouldnt. Probably because that would mean for me not to get my big ticket item.

Last year there were three of us on our street that were going BF shopping. Instead of going together we split up, I took three stores, my neighbor took 2 stores and my other neighbor took the other 2 stores. We looked over the hard ads the day before, made lists and all made a trip to the ATM so everyone would have cash so we didn't have to worry about that. It worked out really great, everyone got what they wanted from each store without having to deal with trying to make it to each store before they ran out. We were just talking about it the other day and are hoping to repeat our master plan from last year, lol.

I usually buy things on behalf of my parents and my in-laws. After all, it's for my kids usually, I don't mind picking up stuff for them if I will be out anyway!

I will always pick up items for relatives, assuming:

It's a store that I'm already planning on hitting.
It's not a limited item doorbuster.
I can find their item in a reasonable amount of time once I'm in the store.

My niece (16) goes with me. She gets things for her mom and other SIL (works that day), while I'm getting my things. Her mom usually goes to different stores (JoAnn's, Michael's, Family Christian, etc...) than us and gets things for me if needed.

My brothers and I coordinate for Black Friday. My youngest one takes my mother down to my middle brother's house in the Orlando area and so the 2 bros are willing to hit stores down there (they like bargains too). ANd my oldest brother is in St Augustine so he will go out, not as willing to get out of bed, but his Walmart doesn't seem to get the same traffic as Jax or Orlando. And I usually pick up the presents that my MIL gives my boys so I do her shopping every year now.

I haven't do this yet, but I might start getting some "orders" from family members with young kids that are coming of age for some of the hot toys.

I would do it if I went, however, I have stayed home the last few years due to my perfume allergies. I'm trying to figure out how to go out this year, as my oldest dd has offered to go with me. If anyone asked me because they couldn't I sure would, as I know how it is not to be able to go and have nobody to ask.

I go with a group and we split our shopping list up so each person is in a different department. It goes faster and everybody gets what they wanted.
