View Full Version : Who do you shop with on BF?

My dh and I have made BF, our day. I've found that other people get a little fickle and changed their mind at the last minute, so I don't even bother asking other people anymore. There are those other folks who never want to go out, but always want you to bring them something back. There are a couple of people who I know can't get out there with us crazies and camp out, so I don't mind looking out for them. Who are you going shopping with on BF?

usually with DH. But this year he may have to work on Thankgiving overnight and wont get off from work till 530 am. SOo, I am going to take my 19 yr old son with me to stand outside with me and then meet up with Dh later that day. I am hoping that he doesnt have to work but he wants to because he gets paid triple time

My sister... it's our annual "date" and we make the plan via phone on Thanksgiving solely because we each go to our DHs' families so we have to call and plan out a route that is satisfactory. Inside each store we have went separate ways if we need to in order to get everything we need.

A couple of times my DD went with us, but this year she will be 8 1/2 mo pregnant with a 3 1/2 year old so I think that she won't feel like it.... I will bring back any goodies she wants though!

:yup: That's me. I send DH to another store (usually Target or Toys R Us) with a shopping list while I hit walmart. He wouldn't be able to handle Walmart! Then we meet up for breakfast around 7 a.m. at Bob Evans and then go our seperate ways again to finish out some shopping. We are both usually home with all the shopping done by 10:30-11:00.

My lovely wife has come with me the past couple years to wait in line. My brother was in town last year visiting and was all pumped about coming out... until it was time the night before to go and he decided that he "didn't feel like it" so we went without him and he met us up on Friday.

If mom and dad are here they will go, my DD and oldest DS DS20 and his girlfriend will go. I usually have somebody in various stores with a list. DD19's laptop that we got a BB 4 0r 5 years ago is acting funny. We are going to try a new hard drive but somone may be in line for a laptop this year.

Most years I've had my husband go along, but that's not a whole lot of fun. He hates it and since he's being such a good sport about going I feel like I can't really stay out as long as I want to.
The year before last I went with my aunt. We left my house around 330am and got home around midnight. We had a really good time.
Last year I had to go alone. We didn't have a sitter so hubby had to stay with the kids and my aunt was at her in-laws in another state. This year my aunt says she's going again.

I used to go with one of my sisters in law...or by myself. I think this year I will probably have to go by myself and maybe bring all 3 boys with me! Should be fun! Maybe I can talk my brother into going with me! DH would rather spend more money than to get up early for a good deal! He doesn't see the fun in the whole thing.

My sister, her friend, and I go!! We make it fun. Although, the've had to call and wake me up 2 years in a row!!! I get so worked up the night before, that I have trouble waking up. We plan our strategy the night before. We usually pick up stuff for each other. It's a fun annual event for us. Then we all go eat out together!!!! :) Can't wait to do it again.

My sister and I go...last year, her boyfriend went for the first time, and he LOVED it! We have our mom and dad watch her kids, and my dh takes our kids to his parents', since he won't go out, and I spend the night at my sister's. We take two (or three) vehicles, depending on our game plan, and we usually end up at different stores, getting whatever we want, so I'll pick up stuff for her, and she'll get stuff for me, so neither one of us slows the other down, and we know exactly what we are after. I even cased a couple of places last year ahead of time to see where things were going to be, to make it a little bit easier (though you can't do that with Wal-Mart, since the pallets are wrapped, and most not out yet)...it was good her bf came last year, because she had a TON to get in W-M, and having him there helped her get it all! We are constantly in contact by phone to tell each other what we got/didn't get (though it's very rare that we don't get what we went for...though we don't ever go to BB or CC), and at some point, usually after all of the doorbusters are over, and the rest of the world is awake and out shopping, we meet up...we are usually out and done and back home by 10 or 11...

OOOH, I'm excited just talking about it!! ;)

The wife came with me once a few years back for some Wal-Mart wait-in-line doorbusters. She never wanted to go again. Been lonely on BF ever since. Some people just don't know how to have fun. ;)

For the past two or three years, I have always gone with my best friend. We get together on the phone Thanksgiving day and plan our route. She has her list and ads for Walmart price matching and I have mine. We take her van or my SUV and it is always FULL and we can barely shut the door or open it for that matter because all the stuff keeps falling out. Hubbies watch the children for us and we usually do not get home until around 1 or 2.

I go with my mom. She isn't as hardcore as me but she does love a good deal and this day is one of the ones where I am actually organized, LOL.

One year there was an altercation at the Wal-Mart we were at my dh loved hearing about it. He acted like he wished he had been there but I know he would NEVER get up at 3:00 in the morning to go shopping. This year I might camp out and he will need to stay home with the kids.

My sister lives about an hour away from me so I go to her house around 9:00p.m. on Thanksgiving night to stay all night with her. We stay up until about midnight planning what stores we are going to and in which order then we get up at 3:00 and go wait in line at the store that is 1st on our list!

8-23-2007, 11:02 PM
I take my DD with me. There's no way I'd find (or could afford) a sitter for that early in the morning. I've already done most of my shopping for her either before BF or after it so whatever I find is either for me or both of us. If I'm shopping for gifts for others, she helps me decide which one to get for who. :) Last year I did get to shop with a couple of friends I met up with in Walmart but we only hit a couple of stores together since she had more people to shop for than I did.

8-25-2007, 1:40 PM
:gdyeahthat: I was coming in here to say the same thing! My family and friends say I'm "out of my mind" for getting up that early and heading out. My son has been bugging me to go and this would be so helpful to me, but I shop for him, he's 14, and he would see what I am buying. Plus, he would probably run his mouth to his sister as to what was bought!! I can't trust him. Maybe this year, if I can get his xBox 360 without him seeing it. YEAH RIGHT!!

I shop with my dh. He makes a big deal out of saying he HATES to shop black friday but we really have fun. There's nobody I'd rather go shopping with. In years past I've shopped with various members of my family, and a couple of friends but unless someone begs to go with us - I'll just prefer to stick with dh.

Growing up BF was mommy and me day. My mother and I would take that day just for us. Later on she started staying home with the grandkids so I started shopping alone on BF day.

Last year, I hope, was the start of a new BF for me! I went with my sister, (her first BF out shopping), my mother, and my oldest aunt. We had a blast!

The last 4 years I have shopped with my Mom. Two years ago I talked my sister into going with us. She did not have a good experience the first year and in '06 she got more "aggressive" and got items. She is now hooked!! We are excited about our BF outing already!!

It has varied for me for the last few years. My dh went with me the first couple of years because he said he likes to see how crazy people get. I think its because he wanted to make sure I didnt spend all of our money:D But it really is a huge family thing. Last year my husband stayed at home with the kids and my mom, sister, cousin's wife, her mom and I shopped. When I was younger my cousin and I would go with my grandma, two aunts and my mom. About 10 or 11 my dad and her dad would come pick us up and take us to lunch and a movie. They'd shop until like 8 or 9 that night.

When I became an adult and started doing some mega shopping I was astonished to find myself done and ready to head home at 9 or 10 in the morning. Of course, I also go by myself so I don't have to wait for anyone. When I'm in line I sometimes wish I had someone with me, but I love getting done so fast.

Normally solo and run into family while out shopping.
Last year was the first time I went with my very best friend. My son and I drove to her family Thanksgiving noon since my husband is a police officer and had to work that coming weekend. She lives nearly 3 hours away. Her husband gladly babysat for us. We had such a great time and looking forward to it this year.

My oldest son has gone with me the past 2 years. Then we hit Denny's for breakfast. 2 of my brothers go out in the Orlando area and we call each other to see if there is something we need in the stores they are in, if it is out of stock in Jax. Strangely, doorbusters that sell out in Jax are often still avail in Orlando??? And my oldest brother went to Walmart in St Augustine 3 hours into the fray and got doorbusters the past 2 years, so I am willing to call on others to get out of their beds!!! But I like the anticipation of standing in lines and talking to the people around me.

I always go with my sister. we have been known to drag her DH along with us and that works out fine. I took a boyfriend one yr to fry's. Fry's is stupid and its a grab what u can store with no tickets handed out. I was first in line. i went one way with my list bf just had to go another and grab a tv. by the time i got over there all the tv's were gone!. One guy was sitting up in the air on a stack of 4 tv's!!! and my lovely bf had none. he just couldnt hack the pressure and competition hahaha. i think that is why he is now my X. That is the true test of a relationship----true love----how they deal with my BF plans. LOL
Ya just gotta be tuff enuff to handle it. So i will stick with my tried and true shopping buddy my sister. Even when she moved 3 time zones away we did BF by phone. It worked great cuz she was able to give me heads up on happenings with stores that opened 3 hrs b4 mine did :D

But she is back in vegas with me again and we are already discussing BF and anxiously awaiting the release of sales ads to plan our strategy. All i can say is thank God for Gotta Deal. Does anyone else remember the prehistoric times we u had to rush and get the paper on thursday and figure out ur game plan all in one day while cooking Turkey day dinner then head to the stores almost blind hoping ur paper had ALL the sales ads in it LOL. Awww....thank u gotta deal for bringing us into the 21st century :D

I've usually gone by myself, it's just easier. But last year DH met up with me around 6 and went to a couple of stores with me. It was nice to be able to take his car for the rest of the day while he took mine home and unloaded. He also was a good line place holder, and is extremely tall, so he was able to get a few things that were "out" on lower shelves. I've hit him up for going this year to a few stores and he probably will. However, I'll probably still do the bulk of BF on my own. It all sort of depends on who's living at our house by then (foster parents).

Well it turns out my sister wants to go to Best Buy this year with her hubby!

She saw how busy it was when we passed there at 3AM last year, but she still wants to go. I told her no way I was going to Best Buy and good luck! :eyepoppin

I will babysit her son Thanksgiving day, and my mother will have him the rest of the night as I do plan to head out to WalMart and a few other stores.

So I am back to shopping alone on BF, which is good as I can go where I want, when I want, and most important come home when I want. :cheesy:

It depends on what we did for Thanksgiving and who was visiting. I've gone out alone, with my dad, and most frequently with my partner.

Any one that would be dumb enough to fall for the whole "I'll be glad if you come. I'll even help you make sure we get your stuff first! " Of course... as soon as the doors fly open, we "somehow" get seperated and never find each other until we get done. Hmmm... wonder how that happens?

My sil and I have been going for the last 4 years or so together. last year dh went to bb and I think he is going to go do that by himeself--I really don't think I could do bb. sil and i usually hit walmart, kmart, meijer and JcPenny's. However this year I am going to be home (in Ohio) where we have a lot more stores to choose from--I'm hoping she'll come down from MI and keep up the tradition. She's fun to go with and we help each other out when we can.

For the first time I will be going alone, and like others said I think I might enjoy it better.. No one to nag me or rush me or give me a headache and there will be room in my car for all my packages.

I go with my mom when it's our year to spend Thanksgiving with her (off years, I go myself...no mother-in-law ;) ). If my sister's not scheduled to work until later in the day (she works at Hastings), she'll go. Mom, sis and I scour the ads and come up with the "Game Plan" and decide what to do...generally, if we find out a walmart nearby is PMing, we generally just go there, then Walgreens and others after we're done there...

*Generally, we run by JCPenney first, however, 'cause they always have their annual ornament, and it's tradition for the 3 of us to get one*

I go with my BFF on BF!! LOL Our hubby's generally have to work that day... Plus, they could NEVER handle it!! My hubby is the most impatient person I've ever met!! He enjoys all of the things I get, but could never handle standing in line in the COLD!! We live in Michigan and it gets down right frigid sometimes!!

Something else to think about... my friend and I take either our cell phones or 2-way radios, that way if we get separated, we can find each other again!! A lot of times, we can't get cell phone signals in the store, so the 2-way radios work best!! I'm sure most of you do this, but maybe some of the BF rookies hadn't thought about that!!

I'm so excited for this year!! Even though I know it will be a while... I check here everyday to see if there are any more ads!!

I go with my sister. It is our annual tradition. We get the ads and make our lists, then plan out where to go first. We have spent many, many hours standing in long lines, while freezing from the cold-especially at the toy stores.I remember her waiting in line at Walmart, for what seemed like forever, while almost 6 months pregnant with twins! Everyone in her husband's family think we are crazy, but we get great deals, save money, and add to our wonderful sister time memories.:) We can't wait for Black Friday 2007! :holiday08

I go shopping with my mom. We usually devise a game plan after Thanksgiving dinner, if we haven't already done so. Then, she comes and picks me up and we begin the waiting game at the first store. We are usually done with all of our shopping by 9am, if not earlier.

It depends on what our Thanksgiving plans are. Over the last 5 years it has varied from alone, with my mother, with my mother and daughter (she saved the checkout line while we ran and got things), and last year mom and I tagteamed over cell phones but in differant towns and states. This year will also probably be a tagteam effort as we will be at my mil.

I go alone. I will meet my sister at Walmart and we'll split up and get things for each other that's on our list, then we meet and trade items and I go onto the other stores alone. If I go with someone I hate having to wait for them and everything. I go with a plan and get in and out as fast as I can.:)

My sister and I have three times a year where we get together. The LA Times travel show, day after Christmas shopping and BF shopping! We tried taking someone else with us before, but BF is not for the faint at heart. We decided we would keep this day just for us, no husbands, kids, etc. Just the two of us shop, shop, shopping.

my wife usually meets up with me after i've done the waiting and the store opens up. not line cutting, just helping with items at the register and then we go on to other stores together. i'll always pick one store to wait all night at then the lesser ones are more casual. either that or she'll go with her mom to somewhere like sears and jcpenny after it opens.

Well, my first year (2 years ago) was with my cousins, but last year was with friends. Being in High School, its a lot more exciting to go with friends. Last year, I did something stupid at Circuit City where I screamed out "I FOUND THE HARDDRIVES" to my friends. It was nice that all of us got the hard drives, but it was a really bad idea.

Dh and I go in one car and meet up with my mom and 2 sisters at WM around 4am. We get all we can from other ads for PMing, while dh & youngest sis wait at the DBs we want. Dh is 6'4 and the size of a pro-linebacker so he usually gets whatever we need, lol. After WM, we head to seperate stores w/ combined lists, then meet back up at Gordman's or Target. Have to dump mom after WM or we'd never get out of there, lol!
