The Laboratory of Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience at Boston University School of Medicine is currently recruiting adolescents and adults aged 12 to 36 to participate in the Social Perception Project. The broad goals of this research are to investigate the ways in which adolescents and adults perceive and respond to social and nonsocial information. This area of research has potential implications for understanding social interactions and for improving people’s abilities to read social cues and to respond appropriately to everyday social situations.

We plan to see each individual for one visit of approximately 2 hours scheduled at times most convenient for the for the participant and the parents of adolescent participants. Visits include a series of computer based activities in which the participant is asked to respond by pressing a button based on the image that appears on the screen. In another experiment, the participant’s physiological responses to images on a computer screen are measured. Additionally, all participants will be given brief standardized tests of general cognitive ability and language for the purpose of individually matching different groups of participants on these measures. Participants’ performance on all tests will remain confidential and all reports of this research will present only group data.

Throughout the testing we give only positive feedback and each participant will receive compensation of $15 per hour of participation following their visit and will be compensated for travel expenses incurred.
