We are seeking mother-daughter pairs (daughters must be 11-13 years old) to participate in a four-year adolescent drug prevention program. Improve communication with your daughter and help her avoid drugs. Compensation includes over $150 worth of gift cards from local stores for taking surveys on the internet. Must have a computer with internet access at home.

Dear Interested Participant,



Hi! Thank you for your interest in the Mother-Daughter Drug Abuse Prevention Study. Here is some information about the study:



• This is a four-year study run by Columbia University School of Social Work. If you decide to participate, you will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. If you are assigned to one group, you will fill out questionnaires AND do a CD-ROM program with your daughter. If you are assigned to the other group, you will fill out questionnaires only. The group you end up in is determined at random before the study begins.



• No matter which group you are in, every time you fill out a questionnaire you and your daughter will each get a gift card worth $20-$40.



• The questionnaires take about 30-45 minutes to complete. They can be completed on the internet on a password-protected site. There will be two the first year, and one per year for the remaining three years.



We will mail you more information and consent forms to read and sign. The consent forms are very important! Please send them back as soon as possible so we can get you started with study activities. We include a postage-paid envelope for you to use to mail the forms back.

My friend told me she and her daughter received snail mail with 2 ID numbers. One for each of them. They were each given a link to a survey. At the end of the survey they were both given the choice to receive a $20.00 Target GC or a $20.00 Gap GC.

Wish mine were old enough for this!

My daughter and I just completed our first surveys for this study. We received our survey information in the US mail too. Both of us can't wait to get our $20 gift certificates! Whoohoo!:D :D

We did ours last night also. Can't wait for our target cards, woo hoo I can make $20 go a long way at Target.

we took our surveys yesterday were offered Old Navy & Target gc options-
I am assuming we are in the questionnaires only group, since we havent recieved a cd-rom

I emailed this place yesterday and got an email saying we were accepted today. YEAH.... I figure that a 4 year commitment might be long but it's 2 surveys first year and 1 each the next three so you know they are going to remind us either via snail mail or email. And when we are reminded I am pretty sure that I won't be so rich that I can afford to turn down a free gift card for doing a survey! :eyepoppin

But so everyone knows, it's apparrently still open for more participants!!!!! I'm off to email my sister and 11 year old neice...

Be careful with getting her too excited. If they put you into the control group, you will take one survey and then nothing for 6 weeks.

yeah we did one like that before and she hated the wait but the pay off was GREAT :)

I couldn't figure out where I got accepted for this study but this was it. Just wanted to say thanks I am doing the second survey this very moment for $90.

The letter I got in the mail said they are still taking participants and it's not just NY


My daughter and I just finished this the other day. We received 2 $25 GC's to Target the 1st time and are expecting 2 more GC's to Target now. The choice was Macy's or Target, Besides all of that, this was very interesting and helpful. My DD is 13 and enjoyed it. I highly recommend this for those that are TRULY qualified.

Sorry, we are not accepting applications for new participants at this time. I stopped the ad, but another website must have picked it up.

My daughter and I are doing this and we are doing a 9 week, weekly activity. I just got a letter in the mail about more GC for 3 of the 9 activities and then follow up surveys. This has been good so far. I see my daughter and I both trying different things with each other and has made me see things a little differently too. I would do this even if they didn't offer the GC. You can't put an amount over your relationship with your child.
