View Full Version : Coupon Fraud!!!
Deal Grabber 3-13-2007, 11:52 AM Im nt sure where to post this but i just received some huggies coupons in the mail today and just happen to read the bottom of them and it now says selling or auctioning of coupons is FRAUD.So i decided to look on other coupons i got in Sunday's paper and it says the say thing on the bottom on alot of them.I never remember seeing this before.I dont know if this is something new because of all the fraud thats going around with coupons lately.So all you coupon ebayers beware...
bayhaysay 3-13-2007, 12:05 PM That's why most of the auctions on eBay say something like, "You are not paying me for the actual coupons, just my time to clip them.", or some crap like that. I have never paid for coupons.
Melissa 3-13-2007, 1:02 PM Every coupon I've ever seen has something to that effect printed on it - it's nothing new. I never did see the point of PAYING for coupons anyway. Kind of defeats the purpose...

Unless you can get some $1 + off coupons for 2 cents each and a stamp....

That's the truth! Considering you can only print some coupons once and the expiration date isn't that long; plus the stuff in the paper being name brands - and you can get the store brand for much cheaper. . . I'll pay 2 cents each for 4 coupons, $1.00 off, of Scott tissue, a few coupons of Scotch-Brite sponges- $1.00 off or a couple of coupons, $1.00 off, of Poligrip or Polident that we purchase regularly--basically, the stuff we really use, anytime. They're also sent out within 24 hours. It doesn't defeat the purpose when you're only paying - say for the above example - .54 (9 coupons, including postage) and saving $9.00.
I'm lucky, I guess, that within a 15-minute radius we have Walmart, Shaw's, CVS, Rite-Aid, BJ's Wholesale for bulk items, a Dollar Store and a Liquidation Center.
alimfp 3-13-2007, 10:19 PM Paying for coupons can be worth it sometimes. You just gotta do the math.
I just bought ten Lean Cuisines for .59 cents each after coupons and sales. I had to buy the coupons on eBay. After the cost of the coupons from eBay, I still saved over $6 (not including sales, just the coupon savings alone) and I only spent .87 cents.
A lot of stores here will not take printed coupons. So I don't even bother with those anymore.
Rockfordmom 3-14-2007, 12:37 AM I've seen that on coupons before & wonder how they can sell them too. I have read the thing on ebay about paying for the time to clip coupons... but what about the sites that sell coupons (ie: coupon clippers)? And they also say ...may not be traded... does that mean we shouldn't be doing coupon trains? Or what about when my mil gives me coupons that I use and I give her ones for things she uses, is that illegal?
hobbledegaagaa 3-14-2007, 9:39 AM If you want some extra free coupons try what I did. I went to my local Cumberland farms ( wawa and 7-11 type place) and asked them for all the extra inserts from the Sunday paper. I explained what I wanted them for and each Sunday afternoon I go pick up the inserts. I have to take all the advertising just to get the coupons and get rid of it but it is forth it. The store manager is happy to help considering I toss him some extra when on sale that I get free. I also send lots of the stuff that turns out to be free to the troops. I do this at 3 stores and all seem very willing to allow me to have them.

Some area stores are cracking down on this (someone must have complained) I had a friend who worked at Cumbies and used to send me the extras :)
hwolf6330 3-14-2007, 10:44 AM I bought 20 coupons on e-bay for 2 bucks to get $3 off the pledge dusters. They were 2.99 at target, so I got them free. I only ended up with about 12 but still worth the money I spent. What I couldn't use, I gave to friends and family.
bellastarr 3-19-2007, 5:02 PM It has always been illegal to buy or sell coupons. I have always been scared to use coupons that you buy. With all the fake coupons being made I don't want to be the one to get caught useing them and then have to explain that I bought them from someone and didn't know they were fake.
They had a big thing on tv here about this lady that was taking legit. coupons and somehow makeing fake ones look like real ones (they looked like the real store coupons not internet coupons) and she was selling them and using them. She is facing a min. of 10 years, and some of the people she sold them to (who didn't know they were fake) are being charged also.
picadilly 4-1-2007, 11:41 PM My husband always jokes that the "Law & Order: Coupon Fraud Unit" is coming after me.......not so funny anymore
fairydustcrissy 4-2-2007, 11:59 AM Thats why when I buy them, I get them from a reputable source :) Makes all the difference in my mind, lol.
flowerchildsmom 4-10-2007, 1:58 AM I have received coupons off ebay several times and most were legitimate although I was suspicious of some. If I didn't feel comfortable then I didn't use them. I would get them when I couldn't find the coupons locally. It has been awhile since I personally put any up on Ebay and I am now leary of doing it. It just seems like companies are cracking down more and more over coupons. Like someone had said on a post it took people to spoil it to ruin it for everyone else.
happyrat 4-10-2007, 11:39 PM I would ask your newspaper delivery person, or the warehouse that distributes your local paper for their extra inserts from Sunday papers. I have once or twice, and they usually have quite a few left over. It never hurts to ask.
GrandmaWK 4-10-2007, 11:49 PM Is there any problem with trading coupons
CartersMommy06 7-9-2007, 11:20 PM I dont think there should be a problem with trading? its not selling, and doesnt say anything about trading!!
threadless 7-9-2007, 11:23 PM Who seriously thinks the FBI will drop down from helicopters from ropes and bust into your house for selling a $1 off coupon. What's the judge going to do anyway? Make you pay for them.
savvyshopper56 7-15-2007, 11:30 AM I honestly don't think they companies really care how you got your coupons- they are just happy that you are choosing to buy their product over the competitor.
I believe they add all the legalese at the bottom so they could prosecute someone if they needed to. But, those are extreme cases when people have illegally produced thousands of free coupons and sold them.
picadilly 7-23-2007, 12:40 AM Its not the manufacturers I'm worried about. I'm more concerened about the overzealous cashiers and store managers that think you are stealing or committing fraud.

You can't change what people think...if I get an overzealous cashier who doesn't want to accept a coupon I just take the coupon back and tell them to take the product off as well if I am only buying it because of the coupon.
Linda81 7-25-2007, 12:37 PM Wait a minute, I buy the newspapers just for the coupons. Is someone going to tell me thats illegal., Hogwash!!!! Someone is just jealous that there not as clever as us.:smart:

i spent almost 5 dollars total on 3 different auctions of coupons on ebay.
one = 20 $3.00 off pampers
one = 20 $3.00 off wipes and diapers
one= 20 $free kandoo.
i loaded up that month, and combined with teh real simple coupon that was out, i got a closet full of diapers and wipes for about 5.00

Thats okay with me if its only a couple of things. When they reject half of my coupons I start to get nervous and annoyed.
