Hello!
You are being contacted because you expressed interest in participating
in a study with Goodman Research Group, Inc. (GRG) in the past. We are
currently trying to recruit 4th grade teachers for an evaluation of the
Fetch show on PBS.
Following is the timeline of the events involved in this study:
* Mid-May:
* Teachers will administer consent forms to students to have their
parents sign to participate in this research project.
* GRG researchers will administer a 15-minute pre-survey to all
students (The entire class fills out the survey at the same time.)
* Late May:
* The teachers will have the students watch five FETCH episodes. Each
episode is just under 25 minutes long. The shows should be watched
twice a week.
* Late May to Early June:
* GRG will administer a 15-minute post-survey to all students who have
taken the pre-survey. (The entire class fills out the survey at the
same time.)
* On the same day, three or four researchers from GRG will lead
students individually through a Science Process Skills Assessment activity.
Through this activity, the researchers will assess any changes in the
following basic skills involved in scientific process as a result of
watching the FETCH episodes: observing, classifying, measuring, inferring,
and communicating. The researcher will work with students individually,
about 5 to10 minutes with each student. We envision with a class size
of 25 that this whole activity will take approximately one hour of
class time.
Please note that all consent and survey materials and series DVDs, as
well as all pre-paid mailing envelopes will be provided by GRG. In
return for the participation in this evaluation, the school or classrooms
will receive an honorarium of $150 for each teacher/classroom
participating. If you are able to have two or more teachers and their classrooms
participate, the honorarium will increase to $225 for each classroom.
Please contact us if you have questions about requirements for
participation or any other matters pertaining to this study or our general
evaluation of the FETCH series.
Please notify Katie Franich toll-free at 866-577-4377 (or 617-491-7033)
or at Franich@<hidden> by May 13th about your availability to
participate. Once you have agreed to participate, GRG will send you a letter
of agreement to sign. In a few weeks, we will send you letters of
consent to be signed by parents of all participating students.
We look forward to the possibility of working with you!
Sincerely,
Rucha Londhe, Ph.D., Program Manager

I hate tornados too. They really scare me. We had thunder and lightening but nothing too bad. I didn't have anxiety over that but I promptly got a migraine at 7:00 so I listened with my eyes closed until the aura part went away.:yuck: I taped it in case I had to review. I never thought of looking online. I like that idea better. It was interesting, next week looks good too.
limabean718 1-9-2008, 8:11 PM Is anyone else having trouble accessing the survey? I tried calling it up on my desktop and laptop and it won't load. I'm using Internet Explorer if that matters. Help! I want to make sure I get my gift card!!

I got that too. Do you think that is all there is to this project? I was a little baffled. It seemed like the small survey we took, last time I did a survey with them, prior to watching a 2 part tv documentary, but this one said nothing that would indicate there would be more to come???

I also got the survey today and took it. It was short, imo. And also did not mention any further info. :(

To me it seemed like I had to take that to lead into the study. It was more like a precursor to it in my opinion. I am expecting there will be more to it. Maybe we had to take this part to confirm our interest in the study itself.

Yes. That's exactly what the last one was. I was just given prior notification of what the project entails and how much it would pay. Hmmm. Hope it pays as well as the last one...

Yeah I found it odd that no payment has been mentioned. Maybe it is a great payment and they don't want people to take it just for the money. lol -- Hey a girl can dream ;)
