I was asked to do watch a video they sent me (a horrible comedy sitcom from the late 90's from the looks of it) with commercials and all. Afterwards (tomorrow) I have to take a survey on it.

I just got curious when I got the package today and tried to look up more info on them but can't find much. Any survey pros know anything??

I am sorry if this is the wrong section by the way. I wasn't sure where to ask this!

Do you have the link where you signed up? Or, did another survey company host the survey for them? Check the email for email addresses and links.

If these are the same company, look legit to me.

They got a glurb in the L.A. Times:

Audience Studies, Inc. (ASI) - Based in Hollywood, this Sunset Strip preview house determines whether a prospective television program will be popular and whether the storylines/cast members will have audience appeal. Four hundred participants are given free viewings of new program ideas. In exchange they are asked to fill out forms providing information on their age, sex, education and income. While viewing the potpourri of programming participants operated a dial which indicated their pleasure or displeasure with what they were watching. The resulting gathered information helps production studios determine whether a specific new series pilot will sink or swim on television.

I didn't sign up as far as I know. They called me out of the blue. And oddly enough, the package came from Ohio.

I got this Audience Studies too!
They called me, he was a Spanish/Mexican guy, and they called my work, outta nowhere.. no one knows my work number...
they didn't ask to speak to me, but I guess cause I ansrd the phone??
They guy asked me some random questions, said they were gonna send me this show, that I had to watch it on Wed. and that they would call me on Thurs.

STRANGE... STRANGE....

The package, instructions, etc... very odd..
like it makes no sense to anything...
The show sucked and I think it was more about the commercials.

I dunno....
If anyone else got this, the show, the phonecall, the after...
mssg me (plz) and let me know what's going on.

I'm not sure which number I gave them to call back, so may miss the "followup"

I dunno, this is some strange ass ****....

ok.. i got the callback... and I was right...
it was about the commercials...
well the mascara one to be precise.. though they did ask me about the others, vaguely.

They asked me a total of three questions pertaining to the actual show...

What was my favorite part?
What I didn't like about the show?
and would I watch it?

Everything had to do with Drew Barrymore's Covergirl commercial.

Intresting though... she asked if I'd be interested in watching another commercial hidden on the disc... that I had to follow some steps to access it...
I said yea... but that I was at work... and couldn't.

If anyone got to this hidden commercial part, can you plz give me the code/steps so I can access it??

I'm curious now and wanna see it!

the "secret code" to watch the commercials is to input the date as January 12th. All other info, put in as normal

I know, cause i work at ASI :D

Bit of info for you guys,

Yes we are legit, but we arent testing TV Shows, We are all about the commercials. If you hear us on the phone, we carefully word our intros so it sounds like we are talking about a TV show ( "programming " )

As well, the questions we do ask about the TV show arent even recorded, they are just there to cover up the fact its all about the commercials.

I do apologize, i hate doing this branch of surveys probably as much as you guys hate taking them...its sucks having to keep people on the line for up to 1.5 hours talking about three commercials most people wont think twice about.

but hey, you might actually win, the Prizes offered are real :P

Thank you saberstorm for the info. Are you permitted to tell us how we can get on the list to be called?

unfortunately no, all audience studies work is actually done using random digit dialing. we aim to get a random sample of people, and therefore cant actually call specific people, hell that would make our job alot more easier :(

We do make alot of calls however, so just keep your ears open for audience studies.

on a side note however, our company is part of Ipsos Reid, and they do let you get on a panel, check out the website for them. Google search "Ipsos I-say". and you should be able to find it..

its along the similar lines, and you probably would have more luck getting entered into sweeps and get compensation from the I-say panel. Im guessing since im "enlightening" people about what we really do, im sure my company wouldnt mind a bit of PR as well XP

Thanks again saberstorm Great information! We love tips and information.

Ipsos I-say is posted here in the survey form for those of you that would like to search for it here rather than going to Google.

What if I did it the day they call instead of the evening before? Will they know or care?

saberstorm

We ask right at the beginning when you last watched it..we do care, but we can only trust what you say. If you did watch it on that day, then we would ask you if we can call back another day. Depending on the study, if you cant watch it another day then it may shorten the survey considerably, or end up disqualifying you.

I received a phone call from Audience Studies, Inc about a survey. The DVD came today and they are to call me tomorrow between 3 and 6 but the instructions with the DVD say not to watch it until they call!? If I wait til they call, how will I answer a survey? Should I watch it or wait as instructed?

I did this study and mine said to watch it on a certain day. I tried watching it as they requested but the dvd did not work, it kept coming up as error on my dvd player. I tried calling them before they were suppose to call to tell them I had a bad dvd but no one ever called me back. When they called me to do the survey they actually had another company doing the survey and they could not help me with the problem, the manager told me they were having a lot of people having problems with the dvd. He said he would send them an email to let them know of the problem, but that didn't help either. No ever called. Good Luck!
