I haven't read a lot of complaints regarding sound issues.

I can offer some insight on this one.. my in-law purchased this same tv a little over a year ago and paid considerably more, around $1100 with shipping etc. The remote is nothing to write home about but it is not really an issue when you have an all-in-one remote or you program it to function off your dvr or cable remote. The sound is really lacking, there are times we turned the volume up full and still can't hear it well. I would definitely suggest that you get a component surround system to get past that. I also noticed that if you change stations, the volume automatically lowers itself. It may be something in the setup that lowers it thinking it is way too loud but when you have to have it at 95% to hear it anything above a whisper, your left without a choice. The color is not too bad, like most LCDs the black isn't jet black. We have used it on occasions where he hosts a LAN night and he plugs it right up to his computer, it is amazing. I almost bought one when they dropped to $700 but this is too good a deal to pass up. You get what you pay for, this is one of the best bang for the buck LCDs I have seen out there.

I've owned a Westinghouse 32" LCD for about 1.5 years now (paid $899 at the time which was a great deal). It has great picture quality, great viewing angles, and good blacks. I haven't looked into the new one, but I can only assume it's better. I also have not had a single issue with my 32" Westy. I'd highly reccomend them, and I'm strongly considering dropping $480 for the BF on at BB for the bedroom. If I don't get that, I'll get the 22" LCD monitor for $200 for the bedroom, but the 32" is just so much bigger, and such a great deal.

So I went to Wal-mart during lunch as the significant other had to get rocks for her fish bowl at work and wandered through the electronics section to see if they had anything of interest.. there is a 42" Ilo (their in house brand I guess?) EDTV for $1039. I haven't heard much about the brand but side by side with a smaller Samsung the picture was on point. I was stunned at how good it looked compared to some of the other brands. I did not see that particular model on the website though, they do list the same brand/size in the HDTV version though.

What he is saying is that you NEVER want to judge how good picture quality is on ANY TV in a store, because they use many splitters to get a CATV signal to each one. So if the store has 50 TVs in it, the signal has been split 50 times... and ideally a signal is only designed to split up to 4-6 times maximum before the quality drops significantly. So needless to say, it's not a fair comparison at all. Of course if you are not reviewing the HD quality, you can always have them play a DVD movie on it to give you an idea of what standard quality would be.

We currently have a 42" Westinghouse and we love it. The picture quality is excellent and bright. Dh and I spent endless hours standing in Best Buy looking at the various screens to find the best picture. I don't want to have to put my glasses on to watch a movie. We have had issues with the on/off switch and the remote. We have had to unplug it and plug it back in to come on a handful of times. Which has been the main complaint of this tv. But supposedly it is remedied easily and they will be out to repair it the week after Thanksgiving. The remote is pretty cheesy, but we only use it when switching back and forth to play video games, and watch DVD's, so it's not a huge issue.
