Which credit card is your favorite and why?

CitiBank Dividend Platinum Select (http://www.gottadeal.com/click.php?id=2565) is my favorite.

Chase PerfectCard (http://www.gottadeal.com/click.php?id=2000) is a close 2nd and credits your rebates at the end of every credit statement, very nice. CitiBank requires you earn $50 rebates first then request a check be printed and mailed to you.

The CitiBank card. Seems to have the best % of cash back out there, so if I'm gonna spend the money, why not get the most out of it? No complaints really except I wish they website would post things quicker - it seems like theres at least a 2-3 day delay between when I make purchases and when they show up online. My last transaction it shows was on 12/31; there's a gym membership that was on the 28th that hasn't shown yet, plus misc stuff from this weekend. But so far I've gotten maybe 100 bucks or so back from them for buying things I was going to buy anyway, so I'll take it.

I also wish you could apply your rebates to your directly to your balance instead of having to request a check. Discover does it, and its nice.

Does anything know much about their "Merchant Dividends" network thingy? I signed up for it, and it sounds like you can get additional cash back, but do you have to do anything special or periodically check that site, too? Or does it just get lumped in with the regular cash back?

I haven't tried it yet but I've been meaning to check that out.

Most likely the dividend $ earned gets lumped into your overall dividend balance. So once you receive $50 you can request a check be mailed to you.

Yes, I was just reading that now.....it all gets put in the same dividends stuff. So you just sign up, and you can get an extra % on top of the 1 or 5 you normally get. Suh-weet!!

We're going grocery shopping this weekend armed with:

Manufacturer Coupons
Sale prices
Double Coupons
$10 off $50 coupon found in the newspaper
and CitiBank 5% grocery store rebate :)

Life is good :2afro:

I have the BankOne rewards card. You earn 1% on all purchases and it has a low fixed interest rate 7.9% I think. I never carry a balance, but if I had to I'd like it to be low.

These two cards look better than my BankOne card. I looked around before I decided to apply for it too. I have too many credit cards already that I don't use.

Keith, is your Bank One a VISA or MC?

DigDoug

Visa.... is that good or bad?

RossMAN

It's neither good nor bad, just curious if your Bank One VISA qualifies for card benefits
http://usa.visa.com/personal/cards/benefits/bft_warranty_mgr.html?it=search

Call VISA at 1-800-882-8057 give them your Bank One cc number and ask them "is my credit card eligible for warranty manager service"?

Isn't it nice to have that peace of mind that your computer/electronic purchases are covered ... for free?

The free extended warranty coverage applies to all products except for auto and property :)

I can't vote because I've only used one, but I know the CitiBank card offers that 5% cashback.

Also, once my dad missed a payment due to some family issues at the time, first time he's ever missed a CC payment, and got a late fee. He called them up, explained the situation, and they waived it. I think a situation like this is what will have my dad stick with a company unless they give him major problems.

Most cc's offer that as a courtesy.

If I were him I'd be more concerned about a possible 30 day late on his credit bureau than some late fee.

Can anybody tell me how hard it is to get accepted for the CitiBank Dividend card? Any rejections?

That's based on multiple factors, it's not really easy nor difficult to qualify.

You just have to try, cross your fingers and hope that they accept you. Even if it's a small $1,000 limit it's a start.

Yes but I would wait at least 6 months (preferrably 1 year).

Hey RossMAN,

Would it be helpful to talk to a CSR, explain my situation in length, and from there get a recommendation of whether or not I have a good shot at getting the card? Can I even do something like that? :yelclap:

You can try but that won't work because they don't know what your credit looks like.

Wow--you consider a $1,000 limit to be small? Dh was just approved for a Chase Platinum mastercard with a $200 limit (their lowest, I think) and I am thrilled about that. I consider a $1K limit to be really high, LOL.

I know I was just posting about paying things off and not using the Sears card anymore but this is dh--he has *no* credit cards whatsoever and really no credit history other than our car loan. So this was a good move for us--we got approved for a card with no annual fees and the like, and now he can build some credit history in his name while I work on fixing my credit report...then when we need our credit to look good in the future it will. All we will use that new card for (there is one in my name too but it's the same account) is to buy gas, and then we'll pay that off each month since gas money is in our budget already. Poof, instant credit history. Yay!

Actually I consider $300 - $500 to be low but lately I get approved for cc's starting at $2,000

How many years have you had a (good) credit history? Just curious as to how long it'll be before we get offers like that...not that I plan on racking up debt. I know I've had a credit history since 1996, but it's only been good the past 2 years. And as I said dh has virtually no history at all. He's a big "just pay cash" person, which is great for not getting into debt, but not so great for establishing that history.

I got my first cc in 1994, so 11 years.

My credit was never bad (always made payments on time) but it wasn't really established until 2000 or so. Up until then I had terrible loans ($100 loan fee, 33% APR), low limit credit cards with annual fees, etc. All I did was use them, paid them off, it took a while for me to really establish my credit.

Now I get 0% for 12 months APR balance transfer offers in the mail frequently. My wife who immigrated to the USA 3.5 years ago now has several cc's with limits ranging from $5,500 up to $20,000. This is quite an accomplishment for her considering she's only had a USA credit bureau history and SSN for barely 4 years. Her secret is paying off her cc every month and of course always make on time payments.

I vividly remember her first credit card. It was issued from her local 1 branch credit union, they gave her a $500 VISA credit card. After 1 year, things just got better and better.

You talk about your wife's credit cards like they're your children. :)
