When I printed out this type of coupon on my color inkjet last time and presented it to a toys r us store on a long island store, I was told it's not valid since it's "printed" and the coupon does say "copy is not valid"? How did you guys get around it?
Thanks for the advise.

Thanks I have been looking for these. Theyreally do come in handy during the holiday season. Last year my husband and I must have used about 10 of these atleast. I really do hope they don't give us any trouble with excepting them.

I used this coupon the other day and the only problem I had was that the register could not read the printed bar codes. The cashier just typed in the number and the register took the $5off. I will say though that the cashier did give me a hard time about using that coupon and the coupon for the $10 gift card with $75 purchase. Something about using 2 Toys r Us coupons at the same time. But the manager came over and took care of it for us.

Even though the $5 off $25 coupon doesn't say that it can't be used with other coupons, other coupons say that they can't be used with other coupons. So sometimes they will give a hard time about it.

right on THIS coupon it says it "can be used in conjunction with a manufacturer's coupon"....so I pitch a fit, if they say otherwise...they printed it right on THEIR coupon!!!!

I normally use one coupon at a time to avoid conflicts.
If you take a bunch in hand then they might object - as its clearly printed - no copies allowed.

Did you print the coupon in B&W or in Color? If it's in color just say that it was emailed to you for the birthday club or something along those lines. I don't get why some TRUs will take it and some wont.

That's exactly what they told me. They mumbled something about internet people fraudulently posting coupons, but that they would accept the e-mail coupons. I thought it was fishy, because I have used printed coupons before. Just my bad luck that the manager was right there when I checked out...

I had fun using my internet printed coupon tonight at Toys R Us. I even used it in the video game dept. The cashier did tell me that if the coupon would not scan, they would not accept it. Fortunately, it did scan perfectly and I even used it on a video game and a game guide even though it said it can't be used for video games! I also used a $10 freebie TRU gift card that I got in the mail on the same purchase. Too cool!

I printed it in color and told them I got it from an email sent by Toysrus. They were adamant that they did not take email coupons printed like that. They didn't even check to see if the UPC code would scan. I didn't push it as much as I could have, I guess. I had already gotten a good deal, and I've always wondered about the legitimacy of some of those coupons we get from other sites. It just sucks that so many of you are getting to take advantage of that extra $5. I suppose I should try being a little more "assertive":smirk:

I used mine...well, I was sneaky... My first stop was at the Customer service place, and they said the coupon would not be accepted. So I said Fine...then went to the Games/Electronics area, and asked the girl how you can use an internet coupon without printing it...she said it looked good to her, and scanned it...got my five bucks off. I think they are just silly with not accepting them.

It all depends on the cashier, IMO....this sounds terrible, but I try to find a young one, who's watching the clock and ready to go out and party....they usually give you very little flak because they are ready to GO and don't want to deal with a long drawn out episode about a coupon. Male cashiers are the best...they never give me a hard time. lwj:cool:

I do most of my TRU shopping while my 3 yr old is in daycare so I don't have many cashier options. There were only 2 at the time (1 young and one who's been there forever). I waited on the line for the younger cashier even though there was no line for the other but she sent me over to the other register. I didn't even ask about the coupon. I just handed it to her and she looked at it and said "I dunno, let me see if it'll scan". Then she turned it over and said "I better ask". That was the end of that. I'll try another store today and that doesn't work, I'll leave the kids with DH and head out at night this weekend. All for $5
ETA - It's not terrible to stereotype cashiers. I always go to the male cashiers if I'm buying feminine products and using a specific coupon for a different style. Panti-liners, dri-weave, wings, super fresh, it's all the same to them.

I used 3 yesterday...broke my order up into 3 seperate orders! BTW - the Flypen accesories are on clearance for 75% & up. I picked up 3 faceplates for $1, spanish help book for $9.98, batman games $9.98, speaker $1.50, flypen paper $1 and Fear Factor game $4.98. They also had the flyjournal for $4.98 but, didn't think my DS8 would be interested. There were more items I just can't remember them all. The accesories will go great with my deal from Target....Flypen & charger combo on clearance for $64.38 and with the coupon from Target's Toybook you got a one of the Flybooks for free ($19.98 value).
Also, picked up at Toys R Us V-tech phone with 3 different faceplates for $16.98 ($49.99 reg.), UNO attack for $14.99 ($24.99 reg.), some kind of light up sword with darts for $2.50 ($9.99 reg.) & Nintendo DS game Didgemon (spelling) for $2.50 ($29.99)

I think personally that the coupon is edited in some fashion or another. I have used it in the past but to be honest I am beginning to think they are not real. My children are signed up for the birthday club and they get their $5 coupon (looks just like the one on here) in the mail shortly before their birthday. You can always go to TRU.com and sign up for the birthday club and get them in the mail close to your childs birthday. Luckily my oldest daughters is in December so I just got two of them in the mail.

I shopped at Toys R Us today and they would not honor printed coupon. I was told that they didn't accept any printable coupons and it was not their practice to put coupons online to be printed. The funny thing was my daughter and sister also had one and my daughter was refused and my sisters cashier honored hers.

I have not encountered any problems in Springfield, Missouri, and I have used several. ;)
I have used 7 of them on 4 different trips. Yesterday the store manager ran me up even. Today at the customer service desk the women asked an assistant the manager what she should ring the coupon up under. For the life of me I can't remember what she said exactly but the manger knew exactly what they were and how to ring them up. I didn’t have even coupons yesterday so today with my receipt they returned 2 items and rerang them to honor the coupon. I LOVE the peron who posted these :).

I was not allowed to use my coupon today. They even called the manager over and all of them (I had 5 "helpers" at this point) said that they were told this week not to take them because they are fakes. The coupon is real but they claimed that the expiration date had been changed. No more TRU shopping for me!

Hey neighbor! I went to Joplin a few days ago and they took the coupon as well. I bought a new snowsuit (40% off) and boots (30% off) for my little one, and even though they were Kids R Us items, the manager took the coupon for me. I saved a total of $20! Nice people, both stores.

I don't think that's necessarily true either. I've tried to use a "real" coupon that was expired by a day or two once and the register rejected it because it was expired.
Anybody who's been using them successfully should finish up their TRU shopping soon before all the stores get that memo about not using them.

I was told this morning that it could not be used unless it had my name printed on it. They had received direction from Corporate not to accept anymore.
I'm going to use mine this weekend. If you're told that you can't use the coupon, walk out of the store and don't buy anything! If thousands of people are walking out of the store empty-handed, they might re-think this policy.

I'm new around here, but thought I would chime in. I work for a TRU in PA and can confirm that a message has gone out to all stores from corporate confirming that this is a fraudulant coupon and, yes, the legal department is getting down to the bottom of it.
So don't take it personally when you get rejected at the register. Some managers can be a bit over-vigilant and treat a person like they were the one who made the fake coupon.
The best advice I can give is sign up for the mailing list and wait to receive legit coupons either by email or pony express. All stores are supposed to be notified any time a digital coupon is made public, but we shall see.

Over a coupon you downloaded off of the internet that turned out to not even be real? Why don't they just start accepting monopoly money too? You sound like the person that filed a class-action lawsuit over the coupon Starbuck's pulled because it got into the hands of people that never should have had it.

First, I did not know it was fake (which it may or may not have been but at this point it doesn't matter). In a nutshell, you suggested anyone that got denied the use of the coupon boycott Toys R Us until they change their policy. Policy on accepting fake coupons? Thats rather silly and petty.
And how could you not know it was a fake? There were several posts just before your boycott stating it was a fake. Either you don't read what has been posted or are just really bad at trying to defend your ignorance.
And in reality, anyone who knows it is a fake and still tries to pass it off (like several posts I've already read) is committing a crime.

I work at Toys R us and YES this coupon is FAKE. Its a scam made up by someone just like any other scam. There has never been a coupon that has been good for over 5 months at a time. Unless you receive a coupon from an email address like this :toys@e.toysrus.com--chances are its not valid.
For those that use it....FINE...you all know that your using an illegal coupon... so be it thats your own business not mine.
But for heavens sake PLEASE if the cashier is nice to you and says sorry I can't take it please DO NOT START ARGUING OR TAKE IT OUT ON THEM!!
I have NEVER been rude to a customer EVER. But I've been called names all through the book. Unfortunetly I've had customers who think its ok to just yell and scream and treat me like crap when I have NEVER done anything to them except say I'm sorry we can't accept that. I've been screamed at, spit at, things thrown at me, and whatever else you can think of.
I'm not saying anyone on here has done that but believe me there are a lot of people who think we personally are out to get them and not accept coupons from certain people.
Just please treat someone how you would want to be treated.

Went to the customer service desk, they said "we can't accept printed coupons", went to the manager, "we can't accept printed coupons". It's always interesting when you're having a discussion with someone and they are trying so desperately to exaggerate what you've said or read between the lines. I said nothing about a long-term boycott or anything that would impact their business long-term. I simply suggested that people not settle for making the same purchase that they were hoping to make for $5 less. Big deal. Don't take it personally.
And how could you not know it was a fake? There were several posts just before your boycott stating it was a fake. Either you don't read what has been posted or are just really bad at trying to defend your ignorance.
There were also several posts stating that the coupon was working, as well as others stating that the coupon was originally valid but the date had been changed. In a forum where we're all searching for the best deals, plenty of posts end up being true and plenty of posts end up being false.
Exactly. Fun's over, the party got busted up by the cops. Quit crying already.
You view it as people crying, I view it as people just being disappointed that Toys R Us didn't try very hard to get our business. I understand that you TRU employees run into people who feel it's their "right" to get the discount, but I haven't seen much of that in here. We just let everyone else know that the coupon wasn't accepted and then we try to move on to the next deal.
It makes you wonder, why it took TRU so long to send a Corporate Letter to all their Stores, telling them not to take the coupons. How much $$$ did they lose, since Nov 1st, when we found it. Hmmm, I wonder what accountants/employees will take the heat over this fiasco. Do you think it hurt their bottomline or are their prices so inflated, it won't even come up on their radar?????
I hope TRU keeps on ticking, and doesn't go away like Child's World or the other toy stores...

Good points on both sides of the coupon issue.
I don't think anyone can validate that the coupon is fake unless they are told personally by a TRU employee.
The reason being, I've seen stores reject coupons just because it says "copies not accepted" and it's an online coupon that requires you to print it out, so in essence it could be considered just that, a copy. I personally like to save color ink, as it is very expensive to replace, and therefore print in B&W.
I think it's a personal choice if you want to boycott TRU or not. Walking out the store, IMO, will not get anything resolved, but calmly talking and expressing your concern, will.
I had an incident at TRU that clearly wasn't my fault and after expressing my anger(in a nice way), the manager gave me something free for my trouble.
As far as the coupon goes, and I expressed this earlier, if the coupon scans, then I doubt very much that it's fake. It may be that more than the average number of people are using this coupon. It also could be the long expiration date on it. It could be fake, but I can't say because I haven't received confirmation that it was.
I did use it a couple weeks ago before the reports and didn't really pay attention if it scanned or not as I was talking to someone in line while I was being rung up and so, I don't know if the manager manually put the coupon in or scanned it.
I had planned on using it this week and if it's not accepted then I will just continue my purchase.
Hopefully, a "real" coupon will soon surface.:D

So far, two of us, both employees of TRU have confirmed it is a fake. It's not 100% manufactured, like it's made out to be, but it is modified to the point it is invalid. Personally, I believe at one point, it was legit. Sometimes TRU will send out limited numbers of personalized coupons to people to drum up some business. I'm willing to bet that this was the case, except someone removed their name from the coupon and posted it for the rest of the world. By all rights, TRU can forfeit the coupon in a case such as this, if this is indeed what happened. It would explain why the barcode does scan. But still, if it had been modified from it's original form in anyway, it is made invalid.

I've read nothing between the lines or taken anything out of context. You are just one of those customers that believes they are always right, or that's how you are coming across to me. I've been in retail far long enough to have dealt with this type. And yes, what would you call walking out without making a purchase because you were denied the use of a fraudulant coupon? I'd sure would call it a small-scale boycott. People with that kind of attitude should stick to shopping at Walmart.
We just let everyone else know that the coupon wasn't accepted and then we try to move on to the next deal.
Totally against what you said originally. Making a big deal over a fake coupon is hardly moving on, unlike how I am with this discussion.

FYI: I just used the coupon tonight at TRU and it scanned. There was no question or debate about this $5 off coupon. There was no corporate "Memo" anywhere to be found. It seems that it's a the store's discretion whether or not to use this coupon.
Personally, I don't think the coupon is fake. Nor do I take the word of anyone on this board that it is fake as I was able to use it without incident. Just because someone says they work for TRU is not proof enough for me, when a whole store, including MANAGERS accepts a coupon with no questions asked. Sounds like the so called "Memo" didn't reach all stores.
I think it's a bit overboard to say that anyone on this board is committing a crime by using this coupon, just because a few people in this thread said that the coupon wasn't accepted at their store.
As far as the coupon being partially manufactured, that's ridiculous. Either it works or it doesn't. That's why it has a barcode. If people could go around altering barcodes that easily, why don't they just change the prices of everything and not bother with a coupon at all.
IMO, if the coupon works for your particular TRU, then you should continue to use it until your store tells you otherwise. For the people that are being denied use of the coupon, I would ask to see the corporate "Memo" that says not to accept it. As a couple people that say they are TRU employees is not enough evidence for me. It's nothing personal, so please don't PM me any hate messages.
I take what is being said on these boards with a grain of salt. Nothing is set in stone, here. This is just a means to get better deals that we may not have found on our own and a way to help each other find those deals. As the old saying goes, "there is strength in numbers." Which is probably one of the reasons it's being said that the coupon is fraudalent when it's "probably" not. My reasoning: In all the years I have used coupons, especially online coupons, the stores are usually the last to know about them. Last year I had coupons emailed to me from Circuit City and almost always the employees didn't know anything about them. Often times, the MANAGERS, as well as employees didn't read their "MEMOS" about online promotions, if they got one. Usually, the managers are to print out these memos and have them at each register so that cashier could refer to it, if needed.
What I think is going on is that because of sites like GottaDeal, people are sharing these coupons and codes with more and more people and mass use was unanticipated. TJMO, so no reason to debate with me about this.

The coupon has been copied from a TRU original coupon. Most likely from a $5 off $25 Birthday club coupon. Just because the barcode scans doesn't mean the coupon is legit.
The printable coupon was not put out by TRU for people to print and I don't know why anyone would feel put- out if TRU doesn't accept it.
Would you accept a fake $20 bill if the bank gave it to you?
It may look like the real thing, and you might get away with using it, but that still doesn't make it real or right.

It may look like the real thing, and you might get away with using it, but that still doesn't make it real or right.
"Most Likely" are the words you used which means you are not sure. With a fake $20 bill, hopefully you would be sure, unless you were blind and even a blind person could probably tell by touching the bill whether it's fake or not. So, that analogy is NOT good, as it doesn't even compare. I PERSONALLY WOULD NOT SPEND MONEY THAT I KNOW IS FAKE. I don't know that this coupon is fake and therefore, I don't have a problem with using nor should anyone else.
My point is, I don't know that it's fake. As I stated in my previous post, just because 2 people in this thread claim they are TRU employees and that the coupon is fake, is not a good enough reason. Just because some stores do not accept it, is not a good enough reason.
At one point in time, almost everyone said the world was flat. Where they right???
Even you, can't seem to say with 100% certainty that it's fake and that's my point. If anyone can prove that the coupon is fake, they need to offer proof to this thread or stop with the accusations and finger pointing.
I think it would be safe to say that most deals found on this site are deals that were personally sent to someone and then that someone shared it with others, through forums like this one. Companies a well aware of this and many times it is a part of their marketing ploy.
If they didn't want the coupon to be shared or used again, they would make the barcode unique and then disable it after each use or find some other method. Many retailers actually do this, including TRU. I know if Scott Tissue can do this for a $1.00 tissue coupon, TRU should, definitely be able to.
So, to sum up what I've been saying or trying to say:
I don't have proof that the coupon is fake and therefore I will keep using it.
When I receive proof that he coupon is fake, I will stop using it.
If my TRU stops taking the coupon. I will look for other coupons to use. :D

Your second statement could probably apply to almost everyone on this board that uses coupons or codes from other sources that were not sent to them personally. Oh, and all the people that give away these coupons and codes, fit into your "dishonest" category, as well...including GottaDeal.:g_think:
Basically, a person would have to know that they are being dishonest for any of your statements to qualify.

I'm guessing TRU will just move to bricks or such for all of their coupons from here on in like the grocery world had to. .pdf and .html coupons are just too easy to manipulate. Or they'll be like a ton of grocery stores and just stop accepting printables altogether. It just takes one mass used manipulated coupon for the system to change and for them to change their policies.
I have no doubt that this coupon is manipulated, but no, can't prove it. Been through this with grocery coupons and have no desire to go through this with store coupons. I just won't use it. That is my choice. What others choose to do is completely up to them.

She also said because of this fradulent coupon people are having problems with the 12 deals coupons. Employees are worried about letting people use any online coupons! It makes sense to me. If I were working there, I would be nervous too.

I don't know that this coupon is fake and therefore, I don't have a problem with using nor should anyone else.
I am not saying you shouldn't use the coupon if your TRU accepts it.
That is up to you.
What I am saying is that TRU corporate HAS stated this coupon is fake.
I have heard it personally.
Many, many people on this board have stated it.
With a fake $20 bill, hopefully you would be sure, unless you were blind and even a blind person could probably tell by touching the bill whether it's fake or not. So, that analogy is NOT good, as it doesn't even compare.
PLEASE! If counterfeit money was that easy to spot why is there so much in circulation?
Oh wait, I guess I can't PROVE that either because I didn't hear personally from an FBI agent.

The voices of self righteousness get so tiring to hear. I haven't personally used the coupon and don't plan to but why make others feel bad about doing it? If some stores are still accepting the coupons with no problem and a memo has been circulated then it must be store manager perogative. To some - that $5 make a big difference in how much they can give their kids this Christmas. I'm sure Santa is taking that into effect when he is making his list.

That is up to you.
What I am saying is that TRU corporate HAS stated this coupon is fake.
I have heard it personally.
Many, many people on this board have stated it.
People, stating the coupon is fake is not proof. Why don't I state to you to jump out of the window on the 50th floor and that you will spread wings and fly and see if you will do it. It's just crazy to think that because someone has stated something or several people have stated it, that makes it true, WELL, IT DOES NOT and it's very ignorant to say so.
PLEASE! If counterfeit money was that easy to spot why is there so much in circulation?
Oh wait, I guess I can't PROVE that either because I didn't hear personally from an FBI agent.
Again, ignorance on your part...the problem is not about something being easy to spot, it is about KNOWING that it is "FAKE" and using it anyway. If I had a fake $20 bill in my hand, there's a 99% chance I would know it's fake and therefore wouldn't use it. There's the difference. I CAN'T speak on what others would do, I can only speak for me.
For the people that think it's fake, it's your choice not to use it. For the people that DON'T think it's fake, it's still your choice. It's not the right of anyone on this board to try and make someone out to be a criminal for using it. If a "Memo" went out then all stores would be aware and if I can go to a TRU and use the coupon w/o as much as an eyebrow getting raised, then that leads me to question the validity of the posts about the coupon being fake and until I can go into a TRU and be told personally that the coupon is fake and cannot be used anymore, then I won't use it.
For the people that make the blanket statements about people needed a $5 off to be able to afford holiday shopping, that is another ignorant statement. I don't think $5 will make or break anyone on this board and I wouldn't say that about anybody here specifically or in general. We are all in search of deals and no one would be on this board if they weren't. If you are so rich that you don't need a deal, you shouldn't be on this board at all.
I live very comfortable life and even if I was a zillionaire, I would still look for deals and bargains as this is just something I enjoy doing...I don't believe in paying full price for anything!!! :D But, I would not do anything illegal, knowingly, to get something at a discount. I can't speak for everyone on this board, but I don't think it's anyone's intention to use a coupon they know is fake. For those that do, please do not lump me in the same category.
Another thing...It doesn't seem like GottaDeal thinks the coupon is fake, either, because they haven't taken it down from the site. They don't make any money off of us printing the coupon and using it in the stores, so what would be their motivation for keeping it up? At this point, they are about the only people on this board that could tell me they verified the coupon to be a fake.

I went to my Toys R Us in Florida, and I went up to the manager and asked him if I could use this coupon because I heard it was a fake.(I didn't want to feel guilty), and he said he may of heard about some fake coupons, he couldn't remember, but if it scans I could use it. So I don't think Toys R Us is so upset about the coupon, I have bought things at Toys R us as opposed to other stores because of the coupon so they are getting more business from it so it can be a good thing for them.

How about I print out the memo from corporate to the stores and post it here? Or how about I do the a'hole thing and direct corporate to this site and see how long it takes for a cease and desist order and the coupon to vanish? I would bet it wouldn't take very long.

You shouldn't be made to feel guilty. No one should, especially if your store accepts it. That's the reason I originally said something, because I saw so many people bashing another poster because he or she chose to use the coupon, even though there's no proof the coupon is fake.
I'm sure there are fake coupons out there, but it's hard to believe that a coupon that scans is fake. TRU changes prices on hundreds, if not thousands of products every week and so it's hard to believe that they can't disable the barcode for one coupon if it were really fake.
THE WHOLE POINT TO EVERYTHING I WAS SAYING IS THAT NO ONE CAN PROVE THIS COUPON IS FAKE(Yes, there is a way to prove it) AND NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO BASH ANYONE OR MAKE SARCASTIC COMMENTS BECAUSE THERE ARE SOME(INCLUDING ME :tongue1: ) THAT CHOOSE TO USE THIS COUPON. I don't believe it's fake and that's why I use it and I'm not a bad person, a criminal, or a desparate parent.
As far as I'm concerned, this coupon is good until a store manager tells me it isn't, not because two people that claim to be TRU employees, in a group of thousands of people, on a message board, that I don't know from a can of spray paint, says so. Was that a run on sentence?(rhetorical):D
This board is getting bad a bashing people. If this coupon makes that much of a difference in whether or not a person can buy gifts, they don't need to be shopping at all.

I called my TRU to make sure they would accept the 12 days coupons and she told me that those were acceptable but they were not accepting the fake 5 off $25 one people were getting off the internet. She went on to explain that someone was posting TRU flyers ahead of time and "adding on" coupons that TRU did not put out.
I will say that I agree with deals4mommy, $5 is really not going to break anyone here. If your store lets you use the coupon then fine but if they tell you its a fake then deal with it. Why should anyone here expect an associate to get in trouble so they can save $5 ? Also, store memos from corporate are for employees, not customers so no the manager doesn't have to show anyone anything as someone here suggested.

I have used 3 of these and don't feel guilty at all. They scaned every time so if it is fake why dont they fix there system so they dont scan? I also have a friend who works at TRU and he says his store never received anything saying they are fake so if they scan they take them. I dont know if TRU is all corporate owned or not but if they are not that may be why some are taking it and others are not mabe only the corporate stores received the email and the independently owned stores are on there own. I know we have a grocery chain called Giant Eagle here and some are corporate and some are independent and they do do some things differantly at the corporate stores. Just a thought I had.

Apparently the only people in this thread that "get it" are the ones who work in retail. If I was told that the coupon was fake (whether it scanned or not), I would not use it. Remember kiddos, this is how prices go up. Scamming just to get $5 off isn't really worth it in the end, is it?

Wow, what a turn this thread has taken. For what it's worth, I don't have a huge problem with not being able to use $5. I didn't assume it was fake since there are plenty of valid online coupons but I know there's always a chance when you find them online. I certainly wouldn't argue or boycott TRU for not letting me use it either. I would however raise he!! if I had a problem using a coupon that was sent to me either by mail or e-mail if I was told they wouldn't take it and if my TRU did take the $5 off, nope, I wouldn't feel guilty at all. I knew it was a YMMV situation going into it.
As far as the coupons scanning, I don't think that's really TRU's fault either. From what I understand, the coupons are a scanned copy of a real coupon. The bar code works because it's the same bar code that a real coupon had. I don't think there's much they can do about that.

You seem to be one of the sensible people on this thread. Which brings me a conclusion: All the self righteous people need to stop seeking out deals and wait only for the coupons and discounts that come to their mailbox or Inbox, as anything else may be considered "illegal" by them when applied to the character of someone other than themselves.

Actually, they can do something about it. Just disable the coupon. Simple.
I doubt if the coupon is fake. As far as we know this so called "Memo" could be about a totally different coupon. :smart:

And all consumers are lying thieves who would rob you blind if given the opportunity. Stereotyping goes both ways.
This thread certainly does provide some interesting insights into the issues of consumer ethics. On one side, you have those that will say "well I heard it was fake by some who I trust are employees, so therefore I think it's wrong to use it" crowd. Then you have the "well, I'm getting mixed messages, I'll trust that the system is taking care of itself (i.e. if it scans and TRU isn't disallowing it, then it must be ok" crowd. And finally you have the "well even if it is fake, it's TRU's own fault and they should do something about it, I'll use it anyway" crowd.
The poster who deals4mommy is replying to is absolutely correct when they state that it's things like this that will end up haunting you later. deals4mommy, you're right, I don't think the "corp bigwigs" are in this for the good of all people, they want to make money and in the process they employ tens of thousands of people and allow them to make money. It's far too tangled a system to flippantly blurt out stereotypical "big bad corp dude" comments and I'm really hoping that you were just kidding as it would show a startling (but not necessarily surprising) lack of understanding of the whole retail system.
If anyone has been following the 12days thread, then we have already seen some fallout from this coupon. I personally choose to not risk it because I feel it's the wrong thing to do (there seems to be enough doubt and I realize that I only hurt myself in the end). While I won't go out of my way to verify every single coupon I run across (and you know this scenario will only occur more frequently over time), but I won't choose to selectively filter out the information here to only include things that benefit me.
OK, off my high horse now :)

Self-righteous? More like not ignorant. Let me explain something to you. I work in retail. I know what's going on and why it's WRONG to use the coupon. I see this happen all the time where I work. A few people scam the store which results in cut hours for the employees. Which means less salesfloor employees to help YOU and less stock on the salesfloor. Which also means less cashiers. Which means more wait time in line to check out. Which also means less customer service people. Which means disgruntled employees who don't want to deal with bullpoop and who will give you a hard time when returning things. It HAPPENS. And you'll go to another store. And it'll be the EXACT. SAME. THING. ESPECIALLY because this is happening at more than one TRU store. All this for $5. But that doesn't matter to you. Who's the self-righteous one now?

This is a dead topic and I have stated how I feel about the situation. You can go back and read all the posts I made, whoever chooses to.
In summary, I, as well as a couple other people do not believe the coupon is fake. Therefore, we have a right to continue to use it. Those of you that feel it's fake, have a right, not to use it. It's just that simple.
If I go into my TRU today and they tell me that the coupon is fake and we can no longer accept it, then I will have to honor that, no biggie. But, if they tell me the coupon is legit and continue to accept it, why would I believe otherwise, because a bunch of "no names" on message board says different. This was the point I was trying to make. Instead you turn this into an attack on my character. I'm glad I know myself better.

Wow, I just came to this thread because of what I read in another thread. I actually read the whole thing, all 197 posts. I am in complete awe of a couple of members on this board. Like someone else posted a bit back, we never know if coupons posted online are real or not. But as far as I am concerned, when you have this many people telling you it is fake, as well as store employees, theres a pretty darn good chance its fake. It blows my mind that people would still try to use it after all this. And some even saying that they need more "proof" to believe its a fake. That TRU should do something to keep it from scanning. Guess what? In my book, that makes you a thief and a liar. There is reasonable doubt to the validity of the coupon. As some have posted, it is an alteration of a birthday coupon. The birthday coupons all have the same barcode! So, if TRU took it out of thier registers, no one who had a legit coupon would be able to use them. And they aren't going to punish the customers who are following the rules. They are going to send out memos that say not to take the internet printed ones. Use your head a bit.
And yes, fake coupons DO change things. Because of a fake Dove coupon a couple of years ago, most grocery stores stopped taking printables all together. Companies lose LOTS of $$ on these. Its not as if they are losing $5. Try $5 x everyone who used one. In the end you are talking alot. It just blows my mind how ignorant people can be. No, ignorant is not the word. That implies you don't know any better. Stupid is the word I need here.
And Deals4Mommy....you know deep down that what you are doing is wrong. If not, I pity you. You are trying to instigate this whole thing. And it is very obvious. Sad. :( So if the police are called when you continue to use this fake coupon, don't expect any sympathy here.
