Thanks Brad!
Was this courtesy of the poster on the Wal-Mart Store Specific thread I posted the Submit Ad link for? If so, we should all thank poster kiwibearkiss!
I believe she posted the specs on the laptop at http://forums.gottadeal.com/showpost.php?p=578135&postcount=69
She had typed up all the details of the ad before I suggested she submit it to Brad or Ross. They're all on the third page of the Early Sale Rumor (http://forums.gottadeal.com/showthread.php?t=51196&page=3) thread on the Wal-Mart Store Specific forum.

Since it's a week long add, will they issue rainchecks? Can anyone see if the ad states no rainchecks?
turq8672
10-31-2006, 10:38 AM
Yes you can use employee discount, and no on the rainchecks. Wal-mart doesnt give rainchecks on special buys like this cause they order a specific number from the company and once those are gone they will not get anymore.
In the ad posted on the Walmart thred there are $25 kids bikes and $19 razor scooters. Are we missing a page over here? I hope so I was all excited about the bike

I posted what I received. There could very well be more pages in the ad.
I went into my Wal-Mart yesterday and the electronics employee GAVE me the Nov. 5-11 ad. I am staring at it right now. (It helped that it was 8 a.m. and nobody else was there and she was still in a "good morning" mood).
There are Quest 18-inch boys and girls' bikes, one-time offer, $25. And there are Razor "S" Steel Kick Scooters, one-time offer, $16.88. Hope that helps.
Oh, BTW, no, I tried and you cannot put the laptop on layaway. They're all locked up in the back. There are 15 at my store. Sale starts at 12:01 a.m. (it's a 24-hour store). And it's regularly $598.

Does anyone know if it comes with a free upgrade to Vista? I went with my GF tonight and we bought an HP laptop at Best Buy which had a rebate for a free Vista upgrade. They were also offering the same free upgrade with their laptops purchased online. Is it something they are offering to anyone who purchases a laptop with Media Center right now?

But shop around before you buy .. I found one item priced cheaper at ToysRUs.com and Target.com.

Thank you thank you. The 18 inch bike is exactally the size I was looking for to since she is a very tall about to be 6 year old. I'll be done there Saturday night before midnight to get one of the bikes and a scooter. Saves me a ton since I was looking at a $60 bike same size. YAY :gdclap:

I don't think so. The ad clearly states which items will be available online.
The computer doesn't mention this being available online .. but it does say a min of 15 per store for supercenters 5 in smaller stores - sorry no rain checks.
What is really ticking me off about this circular is it does not give an item number for the items available online. ugh

Just got the ad last nite from a dept. manager (friend of my wife's who both work for WM). Here's some answers to some questions about the much hyped laptop, straight from the ad and from the people in charge:
It's a Compaq Presario v5305wm. Here are the official specs from HP/Compaq's website:
Compaq Presario V5305WM Media Center Notebook PC - Product Specifications (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00783092&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3231960&lang=en)
This laptop is a WM special order exclusive. No rainchecks, and because of the 'wm' at the end of the model # it's a different model than one 'ya might find elsewhere. No place will price match it. Don't try layaway, either. That's a different story altogether.
This is a 'one-time offer' deal, which means it's WM's way of gettin' a jump on all the black friday doorbuster shoppers. Because it's limited per store, minimum of 15 per supercenters and 5 per the smaller stores, it's not available online. The ad specifically states what is available online, which is pretty much the 'everyday sale' stuff.
Basically, how it goes at the supercenters is they'll either start a line once the first person asks about it on the evening of 10/4 or will start passing out tickets. Once 12:01am on 10/5 hits, the line gets led to the register and the register person hands them the laptop and they get checked out right there. They can't start it any earlier. As for the regular WM's that open about 6am or so (I forget), a line will form outside. Basically, it's like shopping on black friday.
The ads are all regional. Most places should be $398, but some towns will have it on sale for $500+. WM did the same thing with their desktop/laptop sale during last black friday. It sucks sometimes. Maybe drive to a nearby city that has it for the $398 price tag. It'd be worth the gas.
This laptop and all laptops sold at WM can be upgraded like any other laptop. I unscrewed the back plate where the memory slots are and upgraded the memory on my WM's HP Pavillion laptop just fine.
Yes, you can use your employee discount on most sale items, but it's always best to ask to make sure first. My wife's boss said yes on this Presario laptop. And last black friday I used my wife's 10% off card + her additional 10% off christmas coupon to get the Pavillion laptop. 20% off of $378. Sweet deal!
Most computers purchased between October 2006 (now) and when Windows Vista gets released next year will come with one of two coupons. The laptops that come with Windows XP Home should have 50% off upgrade coupons, and the ones that have Media Center Ed 2005, like this one, will get free upgrades.
Enjoy, and happy shoppin'!
;)

I agree. I think people are making a big deal out of a $398 laptop. I have seen them on occasion throughout the year at various stores, including once at BB (with no rebates). You will certainly need to be there at/slightly before the store opens, but this sale does not warrant waiting hours in advance. This sale has been overhyped.

I don't!! I would much rather be up at 10:00 p.m. for a sale that starts at 12:00 a.m. than up at 10:00 p.m. for a sale that starts at 5:00 a.m. Besides.....I LOVE IT!!!! I am awake anyway at that time and there is nothing to do but shop.

Hi All,
I'm pretty computer-capable except when it comes to upgrading. I know nothing!
Can I upgrade this computer to have a dvd burner? How much does it generally cost to do this?
Also, I see from the specs that it has a 60gb hard drive....can I upgrade that to 80gb.
One more thing...I keep reading about something called Dual Core??? Does this have it? Do I need it? What is it!?
Sorry for all the questions...I need a new computer and I haven't been "in the loop" on specs since I got the one I'm using (a Dell that I bought in 2001 or 2002).
Thanks!

Hi Michelle. Do you need a laptop or a desktop? This is a laptop. Desktops are generally cheaper and easier to upgrade. It does not have a dual core. That means that there are two cores on the cpu chip. In effect there are 2 cpu's on the one chip. If the software is designed to take advantage of it you can have some apps using one core while other ones use the other core. Do you need it? Depends on what you use the computer for.
Is the Magnavox DVD/Recorder $98.87 a good buy? Will there be any left if I go after the store opens?

I am just going to hit a Walmart across town that closes at midnight. That way I can get there early in the morning. Plan to sit in my car with hubby and watch for people getting in line and then I will go. This Walmart is in a not so great neighborhood and normally you can find an abundance of things.

No, I'm saying I can one or the other period. I like the idea of waiting and buying a PS3 to pay for a better lap top. If I buy this lap top I have no money to buy the PS3. Sorry for the confusion!

Hi All,
I'm pretty computer-capable except when it comes to upgrading.
Thanks!
Michelle
Since the DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive isn't removable, it'd be difficult to upgrade it. Not impossible, as 'ya might find a part that fits it on eBay and then have to open up the laptop to install it, just more difficult than a removable drive bay where 'ya just pop it out.
Yes, you cna upgrade it to 80GB. Just need to buy the bigger laptop-specific hard drive and have someone open up the laptop to install it. If you're not a 'puter tekkie, it's be less trouble to just get used to having 20GB less free space. 60GB is a lot for a laptop.
This laptop doesn't have a dual-core processor. It's processor is a single core Sempron 3200+. Dual-core means there's more than one core processor running things inside the 'puter. In a nutshell, it means 'ya get the infamous hourglass cursor (program load times) less often, and processor-intense tasks (makin' movies and rippin' music) are more eficient. If you're just using the laptop for simple tasks like email, internet, and documents, you probably wouldn't benefit too much from dual core.

I have a couple questions for you all...
1) does anyone have any scans of this advertisement?
2) does anyone know where I can find some pictures of this laptop? Im curious to see how the design of this thing is
3) In the advertisement, I can see that it says the LCD screen is 14" HD. On the compaq website, it says the LCD screen is 15.4” HD Widescreen. My first question is, which information do you guys think is correct. Furthermore Can someone please explain to me how it is possible to have a 15.5" screen, if the dimensions of this laptop are: 10.2"(L) x 14.1"(W) x 1.38"(min H) /1.77"(max H). Makes no sense to me...

I want a laptop!!! One guy said the the $398 price tag was no big deal, but when I looked at other laptops for around the same price, they were lesser quality. Lower memory, smaller hard drive, or not even name brand! The cheapest one listed on the website is all of the above plus it is refurbished. I think these laptops will be a big hit, and I just hope noone fights over them this year. On an earlier post someone mentioned that the blitz laptop will be $350, I wonder if it will be the same quality or less??? :gddjmusic:
If it's only going to be a $50 difference between this laptop and one on BF, I think I'll pay the $50 and sleep in.
My WM had every single thing in the ad out today....except the laptop, I saw all the other stuff and started hunting!

Ah college days...When I was in college, laptops cost like 5 grand and had about a 6 inch screen. All I am saying is that there have been numerous opportunities to get $400 laptops throughout the year and people didn't need to wait hours in line to get one. Case in point - Sunday 9/3 - Best Buy Toshiba laptop, similar specs, $399 no rebates. Got there 5 minutes before open and snagged one.

I'm with you, I do value a $$$$, but not at the expense of my time..I have very little of it as it is. I don't enjoy standing in line and waiting for something I can find elsewhere for the same price or similar and not have to stand in a line for it. If I were younger, you bet I'd be there in a heartbeat!!!! :eyepoppin But I do have fun seeing that people do enjoy it, just cause they enjoy the hunt.

Well... as of 5:30 eastern time - my DH started standing in line at Wal-mart. There is one person ahead of him. They are telling everyone they only have 7-10 of the laptops; however, the lady in line in front of my DH said her DH works there and they actually have 45of them. Not sure if they will hand out "numbers" for all of them or not. Once we get a number at 10:00 in the vision center you have to walk back to the layaway department to buy the computer at 12:01. If you leave after you get your number you still lose your place. So we are going in shifts - DH 5:30 to 9 and me 9-12.
Since I am not working and a full time college student we have to save money on Christmas gifts anyway we can. Our 16 y/o has wanted a laptop for several years and I hope this is the year we can give it to him. This really works out better for us as I cannot get my DH out of the bed early to hit the good BF sales and I dont like to go out by myself on that day!
I went to Wal-Mart today around 3pm and was informed they start selling tomorrows Ads.. TODAY! so I picked up their MP3 player a day early which was nice.. Good Luck to all the laptop go'ers!
I just called my Wal-Mart. There's people already in line. They say they will be giving out numbers at 11:00pm and 12:01am people will be able to purchase the computer. If you're not in store and do not get a number, you do not get a computer. That's just crazy that everything these days requires some massive amount of time standing in a line. Way too many people with too much time to blow off. I'm going to go later and check, but no way I can or will stand in line for hours just for this laptop.
They are telling everyone they only have 7-10 of the laptops; however, the lady in line in front of my DH said her DH works there and they actually have 45of them.

I have a question! At my walmart there is a flyer at the registers that says if you sign up for their credit card you will get 20.00 back on your first purchase of 100.00....think this will be good on the laptop? That would make it 378.00.

Well, good luck for anyone waiting. It sounds like many here get to wait indoors at a SuperWM, which helps. I'm about an hour from any 24 hr. Walmart, so any waiting I do would be outside at the Walmarts that are closer. For any that don't want to wait long and don't mind putting up with waiting on a configure to order computer, apparently Office Depot is having a Compaq V3000Z & HP F380 AIO printer for $300 after $280 in MIR. At that price the laptop is pretty slim on what is comes with, but since it is made to order you could add a couple of upgrades or catch some extra RAM or a bigger hard drive on BF. See this post: http://forums.gottadeal.com/showthread.php?t=53485
I've decided to pass. I'm not up on the idea of having to stand in line for this plus have to do it again come Black Friday. It's a decent computer but not one worth spending 7 or more hours in line for. When I called, that's what it would take to get it. There's just too many people with nothing but time on their hands these days and are able to fill up a line before anyone else has a chance.
Does anyone know anything about the TVNOW thing in this weeks ad? It doesn't say anything on their website about how many shows it will hold etc.? I also googled it and nothing. I also noticed that you can get some of the items online now that are in that ad for tomorrow.

The laptops dont seem worth it. If you search eBay you can see some that went for $399 + $25 S/H, and you don't have to have to freeze your rear off in the colder areas. Am I missing anything? I don't see anything worth standing in line for at this point.

I've been scouring the big-box electronics stores' sites and the best cheap-o computer sites that I know of online ever since I got wind of this ad about 10 days ago. I have found several $400 laptops, but none that compares with this laptop's specs. All had only 256 megs of ram and smaller hard drives/slower processors, and most were no-name brands. That said, I want more than this laptop has, and I'm holding out hope that BF will deliver, so I probably will put this on layaway when I go to meet my DH in line later tonight.

I was at our Walmart @ 10:30 pm picking up a few things for the dog. Took a walk over to electronic and nobody was waiting. Ask in the department about the laptops but they would not tell me how many. They will be selling them at 12:01. I asked where and they said here in this department. I am not sure how many people here in my area will be buying them. I plan on getting up early in the morning and checking the Sunday sales papers and if I don't find anything I will drive to a Walmart across town and be there right when they open. If i get one fine if not no biggie. For some reason I have a feeling we might see a good deal in tomorrows paper at a different store.

I got to my store at 10pm. They had 45 instock. At 11pm they were giving numbers away. They gave away about 20 while I was there.. I was number 2 (and 3 & 4 with my daughter & her boyfriend). I am not sure how many they ended up selling. I bought the 3 of them along with 3 of the backpacks at 29.99 each... I am giving each of my daughters one laptop & one bag for Christmas. While the laptops may not be the greatest. My one daughter is 14.. it is good for her. The other is 18 & I don't think it will be good enough for college for her (she is local anyway) she can still surf the net with it.. download her pictures & songs etc... she may still have to use my desktop for her papers... I don't think the laptops have microsoft word on them...

Same exact story at my WalMart. I picked up two laptops with my fiance - the 49 my store had were sold out (all tickets given away) by about 11:15. I haven't powered one up yet, but took it out of the box. It has the 15.4" BrightView (glossy) widescreen. It was overall a nicer package than what I was expecting. Thanks to everyone for the advice.
Wooo hooo!!! Just got home from Wal-Mart. I got there at 9:05pm. I was 17th in line. They gave out tickets at 10:20pm. My Wal-Mart had 44 computers. They gave out 43 of the tickets. At 12:01 the cop who handed out the tickets still had that one ticket in his hand and I asked if I could have it (they were limiting the computers to one per household). I had been talking to him off and on during my wait (making nice!) and guess what??!! He gave me the ticket! After he gave me the ticket there were at least 20 people that walked up asking for them and he said "sorry, you should have been here earlier". I was afraid he would ask me for that 2nd ticket back but he didn't. So, I scored two of the laptops...one for my dad for Christmas and one for me. I haven't taken a look at yet but I will shortly.
Thanks everyone!

I was first in line at 9:30 pm and by midnite there about 30 people waiting to get one. My Walmart got 40 of them, so there were a few left. They did not have the backpacks, though. They looked, and no one could find them. Maybe later in the week.

It is 7 hours into the sale now. I called all the WMs within a half-hour of me. There are at least 50 left. Some of the stores kind of laughed when they told me some people were there waiting for hours last night. I really want one, but I don't need one. I guess I just like the thrill of the hunt!

My husband went to WM shortly after 12:00 and got one with no problem. At 7 am they still had at least 3 left. The computer is nice but comes with too much junk preloaded. Thanks to this site for letting us now in advance of this sale!

The ones around me sold out! And I was one of the ones standing in line for hours and I have NO regrets. We all made it one big party bay passing out snacks and watching movies on a display portable dvd player. I loved it!!! And as long as I don't have to stay out in the cold, I am alright. :groovin:

Does this laptop have Word in it?
Thanks!:)
It has Microsoft Works, which is a really annoying non-Microsoft Office substandard suite of programs. There is a word processing program within it, but it's kind of useless and you have to convert everything to real Word for it to be compatible with anyone else. A real pain.

I'm happily sitting on my couch in my living room connected to the internet on my new laptop!!
I was #4 in line, at 11pm they passed out numbers. I went and got a wireless router and got back in line as #1 at 11:25. At 12:01 they said they weren't going in numerical order, ayone with a paper could get in line to purchase. SO, I was #1 out of the store. They made us all pay in layaway to make sure no one left the store without paying.

Glad everyone is pleased with thier laptop. I went for the bike. I was so annoyed. They didn't have a copy of the ad anywhere but the office. The manager up front didn't know what was on sale. They said they didn't have the bikes which made me pretty mad. I went back and found them myself @@. There was only one girl bike so I'm glad I went when I did since someone right behind me wanted it to. Got the bike though and am please. They only had blue razor scooters and only 3 of them. Over all I'm annoyed with my walmart. We have 5 within 20 min of here maybe I should have picked another one lol

my walmart had pleanty of bikes and pleanty of scooters, seems noone here went shoppign today.

Next ... you need to sign up for DSL/cable (non-dialup) internet service and buy at least a wireless broadband router. Your new laptop (congrats, BTW!) should come already setup for recieving wireless signals, so now 'ya just need to send the signal through your home. A friend of mine got his WM laptop and tested the wireless by makin' a quick stop at a local hotel parking lot and 'bootlegging' the room's complimentary wireless internet service. :D Kinuva cheezy way of getting on the net. :cheesy:

If you can find an external DVD+-R/RW that's compatable with it. But unless you're a tekkie yourself you'll probably have to hire someone to do it for 'ya since the optical drive bay isn't removable. 'Ya gotta open up the laptop and do a few 'tekkie' things to it.
Even so, it's still nice to just be able to burn CDs on the go, ain't it? :D

I wanted the Baby Alive with the party pack and no one knew what I was talking about. They also said they didn't get any in or maybe they were still in the trailer. Did anyone offer to go look? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo! So I grabbed one of the Baby Alive on the shelf and it rang up for $49.97. I quickly protested and to make a long story short I made them at least give it to me for $39.97. They told me to call tomorrow to see if they got the one with the party pack in. However, since reading the reviews about it and comparing it to the interactive Baby Chou Chou, I am returning it and getting one of those.

Time for my story. ;)
I sorta wanted this laptop, but I don't have my 'play' money just yet so I couldn't go for it. :( However, earlier in the week, I told a friend of mine at work about the sale as he was in the market for a new computer. He went for it and sucessfully snagged the first one. :D
According to him, the supercenter he went to (over in waaaaaaaaaaaay north part of Phoenix) had set up about 20 folding chairs. If 'ya wanted a laptop, 'ya sat down at your place in line. If you moved from your seat, your place in line is up for grabs, so 'ya couldn't move from your place in line without possibly sacrificing your laptop. He showed up about 8pm and there was no one there for the laptop yet. Left and came back about 10pm, still no one, so he sat down at #1. Soon as he did so, a bunch of people around the electronics department suddenly jumped into a bunch of seats behing him. They were all hangin' around and waiting! By 12:01am there was a very long line well beyond the chairs as they did have a few more laptops than they had chairs. He didn't mention exactly how many laptops they said they had, but they did sell out before the line ended. So, unfortunately, a few people were too late.
Oh, and for the record, the WM discount worked for the laptop. His total out of pocket cost, laptop cost + tax - 10%, came to about $389. (Don't ask how he got the WM employee discount card. My wife would kill me!)

My husband and I went to Walmart at 9PM to waite for one of the laptops. It was a small town Walmart that was listed in the extra fine print as minimum of 5 per store. Anyways, they had 20, but they were very secretive of where they would be lining up for the laptops. The assistant manager told me he would make an announcement at 11:30 and not before. I stated I did not get there at 9 pm to waite for some announcement, and he told me the two locations that were possible. My husband stayed at one and I stayed at the other. We did get one, however by the time I made it back to where they were giving them out there was a huge line. Thank goodness my hubby went with me, or I wouldn't have got one and I wouldn't have been very happy either. I am still pretty ticked about ow they did it, and don't think I will be in there black friday sale line after this bad experience with Walmart. That was just RUDE! And their customer service people were really rude. I am very frusterated with Wally World   :(

I can't believe it :eyepoppin but I got the 398 laptop at 1pm on Sunday. I didn't go to a super walmart I think that is why they still had them. They had two left. I was still there when they sold the last one at 2 pm. I would say I was pretty lucky after reading the comments.:)

I told my mom about these when the sale first came up on this site and she didn't say anything. About 9PM Saturday, she says "I want a laptop from WM" Grrrr anyways, so they (sis & mom) called WM to see how/where they were selling them and to see how many they had in stock. They told her they were handing out #s and wouldn't say how many or where, but there was already a line. So they played around a little bit longer and I thought they had given up. Finally around 9:45pm, she says "I guess I'll try and get one."
When she got there, they had to wait in line at Layaway and she was #12 and my sis was #13 in line. Some dude ran to sporting goods and came back with 6 chairs for them and a couple of other to sit in.
The store had 34 computers and they were gone a little after 11PM. It was limited to 1 per household, but they let my sister and mom both get one. So I got the one my sister bought. :D

This came off the Walmart store specific thread:
"A friend of mine was in line on the 5th to get one of the $398 laptops and he got one but one of the ladies in the back of the line did not and was upset. He overheard the Manager tell her that they would have more of the same laptops on BF for $298!!!!! He said he did not know how many they would have though. I took this as code for you may get one after the workers horde up their share. Anyway, if this is true, there will surely be a crowd and hopefully some more great deals."
Do you think it is true, if so I AM SO THERE!!! The one I got in layaway will still be there in case it is a hoax. :gdstooges:

If it is true, congrats to the people that get them for $100 cheaper. I will get to use mine for almost a month. I got mine and never had to stand in line, my mom waited in line for 1 hr 45mins, where on BF, she might be standing in line for several hours and then not even get one. Plus, I have to be elsewhere on BF. So anyways, I'm happy to have mine right now. :)

Yaaaaaay. I got my WM laptop! :cheesy: Its waaaay better than I expected it to be. Great window display! I agree it comes with too much preloaded things from Compaq's sponsors, but those can be easily removed.
My experience:
Went to what was supposed to be a new super-WM Friday night around 10:30ish. Only to be told that they would be closing at 12 b/c they were understaffed and wouldnt reopen until 6am. I asked a few associates about the laptops, everyone acted like they didnt know what I was talking about!
So went back Saturday morning around 5:30am. Since it was so cold people, including me and my fiance, were sitting in our cars until about 5 minutes until the doors opened. Once the doors were opened, people literally ran to the electronics department. The manager passed out tickets then went to get the laptops from a cart in the back store room. In the meantime, we kind of formed our own line and started talking among ourselves b/c the manager was taking forever! While waiting, an associate walked up and was like who was here first (attempting to start conflict). We all were like, we are already in a line, leave us alone. But she kept on insisiting on knowing who was 1st!
Once the manager finally came out with a cart, there were exactly 15 laptops and probably 12 or so people in line waiting. My fiance ended up getting one after listening to a techie standing in line with us telling us what a great deal this was.
In conclusion, I'm glad I got one!!! That way, that will free up my time for other things on BF!!! :smart:

I had posted earlier about my DH standing in line....Well, he started talking to one of the managers of that store who told my Dh that the store had exactally 45 of the computers. How many did they give out??? 38 - wonder who got the others??????
Funny thing was the lady that was first in line was that managers wife. Dh was second, but I took over waiting after they gave out the tickets. That manager was the one ringing up the computers back in layway and he could not ring her up as she was family. Then I noticed that half of the line was related to people in the electronics department. They kept having to ask each other to ring up family members. I know anyone could have got in line, but just seemed fishy! I guess most people were not aware there would even be a line for this.
There was a man in line behind me who said he called Compac to get specifics on the computers and they could not pull up the model number. Said they must have been special made for Wal-mart only. So there could be more stored back for BF. I'm just glad I have mine and wont have to venture out early on BF!
Does anyone know anything about the TVNOW thing in this weeks ad? It doesn't say anything on their website about how many shows it will hold etc.? I also googled it and nothing. I also noticed that you can get some of the items online now that are in that ad for tomorrow.
It is made by Hasbro. It comes with internal memory (128 mb) that is supposed to hold 1.25 hrs (on low quality). You can add up to 2 GB sd card to hold much more. However, I wouldn't waste your money. I recorded off a dvd using highest quality. The playback of the show was barely recognizeable. You have to hold the player at just the right angle and even with the adjustable contrast you will have a hard time enjoying the picture. They sold out online, but our store has lots of them left on the floor. Two more, now, because we returned ours.

I own one of these laptops, the wife got it for me the next day as a suprise, I must say it's not bad.
Things you need to know though...
I did upgrade the RAM to 1GB you can go as high as 2GB (waiting for the price to come down)
HD though 60GB is still good, I think it's a toshiba, as I did take it out to see.
You'll need to download AMD 64-bit driver for Sempron Mobile CPU, since this is really 64-bit CPU which has the 64-bit disabled. But eventhough the CPU is rated at 1.8, I did get 1.9 out of it using the AMD Power Driver. Neat feature you get from AMD for free.
I laptop does run very hot ( use a ANTEC COOLER FOR LAPTOP DUAL FANS)
When you get it they set the default in the bios for Video Shared Memory to 128MB out of the 512MB you get. But you can set that to 32MB instead.
ATI PCI EXPRESS GRAPHIC IS nice and you get an ultra bright LCD 1440x768 Wide screen.
Mine did come with Windows XP Home Edition, plus a bunch of software pre-installed. I quickly back that up to *.TIB image file (like GHOST) and installed my Windows XP Pro SP2 instead. All the drivers you need is on the HP/Compaq web site...
Bluetooth wireless with high 54G speed mode 125Mbps
10/100 Fast Ethernet
Modem
2 USB
S-Video
I think the new one has SD inputs
The battery is a 6-cell which will last 2 to 3hrs, but to get that to run at that time you'll need to have the unit run at 800MHz instead of 1.8GHz. If you use the AMD Power feature you can keep the system at 1.8 to 1.9GHz or higher. But then it runs so hot..
I did get 12-cell battery I get 4 hrs @ 800MHz to 6 hrs max, if I go to 800MHz

I told my mom about this deal Thursday. She was excited and nabbed one....she was 17th in line and arrived around 10:00 pm. They had 20 computers and had 20 chairs set up for you to wait. They actually handed out #'s around 11:15 and you could go look around the store until it was 12:01 am. Needless, to say everyone who got a # stayed right there until they had the laptop in there hands. I'm glad she got one but, I sure do wish I could have gone with her to see her face (we were at Disneyworld). She called me soooooo HAPPY :cheesy:
