With all the craziness and only 20 or so per store, wonder if WalMart will do another laptop this year as they did last year. I think a whole lot of that was PR....what does everyone else think?? :g_shrug:

It was the same way with their desktop PC 2 years ago.... not enough... but then last year there was plenty to go around.

Well CC won't have the AOL deal because AOL broadband membership is free. I just found this out about 2 weeks ago, called AOL, and was able to terminate my 1 year subscription that wasn't up until the end of November.

Now maybe they'll do the dialup deal, but my guess is they won't bother with that nightmare of having 40 people lined up to get registered on one POS terminal like last year.

I'm hoping to get another laptop this year since my wife took over the other one....:mad:

Every store wants to out-do what they did last year. I think every store will have better things and deals than they did last year. Maybe there will be a laptop that will be $200 with no rebates! :) That would be a great dream!

I was at WM last year around 2am - and there was a line already formed for the laptops - it began at midnight. There were already about 8 people when I got there. I was not shopping for a laptop, so I was able to observe the line better. It got CRAZY and when it started, they only had 11 laptops to sell. There were A LOT of MAD people in line.

My WalMart laptop from last year is still sealed in the box. :eek: But I'm getting the itch to get it out (actually... I'm getting tired of the wife whining about me using her VAIO :razz: )

But we also got the desktop and had it setup before Christmas, and it's been working fine.


(btw... my WalMart had 90 laptops and 32 desktops last year.)

I plan on watching Walmart for a HDTV and a laptop. My MIL is buying the toys for the kids, so I don't need to be there for that stuff. Hopefully though, the TV and laptop will be in the same area.

There have been a few different reasons, Ross. But the biggest one is I just haven't had the time to get it out.

Mine only had 9 of the plasmas and they had them out front at the checkout area, already on gondolas right next to the stack of desktops I was standing next to. And by 2am when I got there there were exactly 9 people, lined up across each one. :)

I'm curious if WM will BF any gaming consoles this time. With the PS3 and Nintendo Wii coming over the next couple of months, I can see a blowout of PS2s and GameCubes. Or possibly even one of the handhelds (the Nintendo DS has been replaced with the DS Lite)

My stepson does the parking lot security at my WM and came home the other night to let me know the price on the Nintendo GC controllers have been dropped down to $11.83 from $19.95. So it looks as if the move is already on to clear out space for the new stuff.

I wouldn't be surprised if WM only had a limited number of laptops again this year. It was such a big draw that even the people what didn't get laptops still ended up shopping.

Last year my son wanted a Furreal Chimp and on their website it was cheaper than in the store so I printed it off the computer to show them and they wouldn't price match it. I don't get that at all if you price match other stores why wouldn't you price match your own website?

I'm not touching Wally World w/a twenty foot poll on BF!!! Our Walmart is WAY to small for the number of people who chop there... I don't even go there for normal shopping because of the hassle. They were going to build a new super Walmart but I guess that got shot down for a Home Depot instead :rolleyes:

We're not really sure, but if they do run something I'm sure it will be about the same or comparable to last years deal.

Ya, alot of stores are like that. The reason for it is because the Websites are not run by the store in question, but by a third party who runs the site, like a Webmaster or something.
I ran into the same problem with Verizonwireless. Last year when I was looking to upgrade my phone I saw online I could get it for $50. So I thought I would print it out and take it in to my local store to get the deal, they basically laughed at me and told me they could not sell me the same phone for that price or they would go out of busness. :confused:
So I ended up ordering online, because they wanted me to pay almost 250 for the same phone in the store. I was thinking to myself that was crazy, but if you think about it Websites don't have the same overhead costs as running a store.

I think that a lot of the special offers from Walmarts are just a gimmick to get us into the store. I always get told that they already ran out of the item that I wanted.

It was a bit strange at WM last year, a couple of days before BF , they were handing put late price black and white flyers, I had to change my entire game plan becasue they came late with the real pricing, not to mention I did not find out until the day before the big day from my cousin that they were handing out flyers at the store.

AOL for broadband is free IF you have your own provider.

Electronics department manager told me today there will be a laptop. The November tab ad will have a laptop in it. That same laptop will be in the blitz at a different lower price. So when the tab comes out for November you will know which laptop it is. I told her of the rumor about no blitz she said they may try that next year but it is not a sure thing.

yes that is the adverisement that comes out. It will be in the Novermber 1st advertisement at one price and then on Black Friday that same one will be a lower price. She showed me the paper she received that had that information written on the paper.

If you go to aol.com, there's a link (a blue banner on the right side) to allow you to switch to a free account. If you switch to free you do lose some priviledges like support. You can still use the software if you want.

Edit: I don't think there are any penalties. You still have aol you're just switching the type of plan you use. Or that's how it was explained to me. I had a few months left on my account, but switched without a penalty.

I bet walmart will have the laptop deal again. I know people who normally do not shop walmart who were out in the freezing cold trying to get a laptop and even though most didn't get one they bought other things while they were there. It was a big draw.

If you really really want something you need to be some of the first people in the door at the store. Yes they run out of the most popular items. That is all in the fun and in the hunt of Black Friday. The good things sometimes are sold out within ten minutes or earlier of the Black Friday sale starting. It is unreasonable to think that you can go in there at any time and get the really good stuff that just is not how it works. If you really want something then you get there and be one of the first people in the door. You snooze you loose. That is just the way it goes on Black Friday!!!! And to me that is what makes it all so much fun!!!!

The laptops were the only item last year that they ran out of supplies. Everything else you could still get at 12noon. I'm rethinking the whole getting up at 4am thing!!

I'd love for them to do the emachine laptops this year like they did the ones last year (I can't remember what brand those were for some reason). I'd have to rethink my DH's christmas gift entirely if they did.

I am already teed off with walmart for stopping layaway, but if they do not have any blitz items, they are not on my list.

The laptop was not the only thing to go quickly at my Wal-Mart last year.

The portable DVD player lasted about 2 minutes.

I found all of the BF items at a Walmart across town weeks later at the same price with the exception of the laptops and the spongebob/dora tv/dvd player. Even a whole shelve of those Cabbage Patch Newborns I read people were fighting over.

Last year we went from store to store (Walmart, Circuit City, etc) trying to get a laptop deal with no success. A woman in one of the lines told us about the deal that Dell was running on line - their basic laptop with free printer and wireless card, $399. She was right, we got two of them and I will be watching the Dell site again this year leading up to BF. The laptops are used daily and still running strong almost a year later. Can upgrade if needed, too.

I was one of the lucky ones to get a laptop last year, I didn't even show up until around 6am and was able to get one and they was still bring them out. I live in a small town and most people went to super walmart that is about 20 minutes away. I guess they should have just stayed close to home. However, I guess I wasn't as lucky as I thought. Because just a couple of days ago it just quit working. I had no problems before then and it just died on me. I am getting it fixed by HP, motherboard problems or power switch? I am rather upset that it didn't even last me a year, but I am glad that it was still under warranty. I have considered contacting the walmart headquarters, just to give them a heads up about this problem. Has anyone else had any problems with there's?

I had a compaq laptop that did the same thing. It apparently was a problem with the power connector to the motherboard. I saw from other people on the web that it was a major problem with the laptops but compaq did not do a recall. I know HP bought out Compaq and I was hoping that they would do a better job of building their new line of laptops. The Compaq Presario's stunk. Glad you could get your's fixed. It would have cost me more to fix mine then to replace it.

I also changed my AOL account to a free one for broadband. Initially I called to cancel my dial up plan (went to comcast) and they tried to sell me a $4.95 cent/month plan. When I repeatedly stated that I wanted to cancel, I was offered the free plan as a "courtesy". Other than the fact that I have no phone tech support, I don't see any real difference

I heard there is going to be a good deal on HP Laptops before BF and then a better deal on BF.......$300 and less.

I got the laptpo last year and it is wonderful, if they have them again this year for that price or better, i will get another just as a backup plan..:D

I would love a laptop for school...getting back into the game and it would help so much. My hubby uses his for so much and I would love to have his mobility and be able to take it to school...makes note taking so much easier. Of course a PDA with keyboard would be nice too...hopefully he gets on this forum to read this...gave him the links.

Just A FYI AOL is free now if you have your another server you are using.I just recently got verizon dsl which is great by the way and AOL is free.I was paying 100.00 a month for my phone bill and aol now i pay $42.00 for phone and $14.95 for my DSL AOL is free.If they try and tell you its nt there are lying.(LOL)

That is the same problem I had with WM over the summer. I bought luggage at the store to find out it was cheaper online. I tried to get them to adjust the price and they wouldn't. Check online first for the toys your after!
