Kmart, I think, is one of the smartest companies out there to open on Thanksgiving Day for a spectacular sale. For me it is a BF kick off, what is it to you?

I was tempted last year to go. But I ended up staying home and going the day after. Really busy day on Thanksgiving for us.

There isn't any K-Marts near me. However, last year I went to my cousin's house for Thanksgiving. Before dinner started, I asked my cousin where's the closet K-Mart. He said 5 minute drive. So we went, nothing was really good.

The K-Mart was small and one of the older K-Marts. I did buy two 2-L of Pepsi and a CD.

We used to go all the time when it was only 10 minutes from here. I always bought wrapping paper multi packs for a great price. Now the closet one to me is about a half hour away and I always cook Thanksgiving dinner, so I really don't have the time. I was tempted to go last year for the Kodak deal they had, but ended getting the BF Kodak deal at Walmart online Thanksgiving night.

I love go to Kmart and Big Lots every Thanksgiving. I always stop at Big Lots when they open for whatever giveaway they have then I head over to Kmart after I'm done shopping at Big Lots unless Kmart has a great deal I want to get then I go there first.

I have in the past, but not last year. I wish I had b/c they had a game boy bundle that would have been great. If the teenager every gets scheduled for her orientation at Sears, and IF she lasts in the job, she might have to work on Thanksgiving.

I have been once or twice - never really found anything good, but I didn't go right when they opened. The first time I went to K-mart on Turkey day, my sister and I went that night, and any good deal they had was long ago sold out - so nothing.

I'll look at the ads, but probably not try to find one - since there's none close now that we've moved.

I have been running out to Kmart every year for the past couple years!
One year we went after dinner and after we had seen the BF ads. I actually *gasp* hid something that my brother wanted in the bowling ball bag section!!! It was still there the next morning!!!!! YIPPEEE!!!

I LOATHE shopping at Kmart. 2 BF's ago my wife convinced me to go to Kmart first because they had certain toys that we wanted for our kids in their ad. I got into line Walmart style... at 1am... only to stand out there by myself until the nexy people came at 4am. But I am used to having to get in line at midnight or so... because Walmart DOES get that packed. And Walmart was the same that year. I spent the whole night standing in front of a Kmart by myself like an idiot... missing 3 hours of extra sleep I could have gotten... and the whole time thinking... "man.... Walmart has a HUGE line... I am missing out on something good there!" :gdparanoid:

EliteABombAZ
9-13-2006, 10:12 AM
Anyway.... the reason I LOATHE Kmart is because they are RUDE, their customer service has gotten worse since announcing their bankruptcy and then merger with Sears, and my local Kmart DOES not have adequate air conditioning in these hot Arizona summers!

I went last year and it was great. I really needed a cheap digital camera and wasn't about to camp out at Best Buy all night. Kmart had them on Thanksgiving so I got up at 7:30 before the kids got up, went to the store, straight to the photo dept. and was the first to get one. I got home just as everyone was getting up. It was like a little known secret and I got a fantastic deal. I'd do it again this year if they have anything I want.

I found out about Kmart being open from this site last year. I went and got a BUNCH of BOGO free games. It was great. I normally HATE going to Kmart or is it BigK? I never know. They have rude cashiers, only ONE lane is open and its old and dumpy. They need to remodel!

I went last year to score an item on my daughter's wish list. I managed to get three people knocked off with very little touble. I managed to go back for the next week when they had special sales. Picked up some really good deals. The store by my house has great customer service. They even had staff on hand to help people with lots of bags to their cars. I just wish the store was a bit bigger. The aisles are a bit cramped and I would have to utilize the team effort of one person standing by the cart while the other darted down the aisle to get the item.

I usually shop the sale on Thanksgiving. They usually have bed sets and board games for good prices. Last year though I was frustrated. My sister, husband and I were the first in line, but when it was time to open the doors the managers opened the middle doors first and let everyone else in. I was so mad. I don't like to make a scene so I didn't say anything. The manager must have been cranky that day. I just ended up grabbing a few things. I wouldn't go back this year but I moved to another state and won't have to go to the same Kmart. I can't wait for the sales to begin. COME ON NOVEMBER!!!!!!!!

I can agree with that, I do like to spend my Thanksgiving with my family.

While I love my family and it's great to spend time with them... I'm single with no kids of my own, and after being in a houseful of siblings, parents, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and great-nieces-- I am READY for a little break by that afternoon!:(

We have Thanksgiving lunch, as everyone but me and my parents have other family to visit for dinner. So by mid-afternoon, most everyone has cleared out, and my mom and I get these crazed looks in our eyes :cheesy:.... and it's off to K-Mart we go!:D Our closest one is about 30 miles away, but apparently few people in our area go to the TG Day sale there, so most everything we want is still available when we get there.:g_dance:

Oh, and I agree it is good BF practice too-- except not quite as hectic! LOL

I go to our Kmart every Thanksgiving Day. I have gotten some great deals there and it's never crowded. I don't cook on Thankgiving, we go to my aunts that afternoon.

for some reason, while other Kmarts were going down the tubes, ours stayed nice. The store always stayed clean and had good customer service. We actually shop at our Kmart on a regular basis.

Our K-mart is pretty pathetic. We just got a super wal-mart less than 2 years ago, and it seems like K-Mart has really dropped the ball since the Wal-Mart opened up. They hardly ever keep anything stocked, and it's rare for their to be more than 1 register open. Half the time, you have to stand there for a cashier to actually come to the register. I haven't even stepped foot into the place since our Wal-Mart opened.

That said, if they have something for a really good deal that one of the kids might like, I may consider venturing out.

I have not been to Kmart in a long while, they used have a blue light special, do they still do that, it was fun to be in the store when they did that.

My local KMart put a huge bluelight thingy on the ceiling toward the back of the store. They did the blue light special for a little while, but l haven't seen one since. The light is still there, tho, so maybe for the holidays?

We have a Kmart about 5 min. from us but it's what we call an Old School Kmart. LOL You step foot in there and it's like walking into the 70's. Just about everything is outdated and they never have what the ads show. It's usually a total waste of time even during a regular sales week.

That is funny about the pillows, I have specifically waited for T-day for the pillow sale.... I despise Kmart as well. Anythign that you could possible want to just run in and grab on a regular basis is placed as far from the doors as humanly possible it seem. Its always dirty, understocked, and overpriced when compared to walmart or target. And I also agree with the comment on there never beeing more than 2 cashiers there at a time, its just horrible.

I go there every once in a while for a sale, if it's something I want. Usually go to Wal-mart. But, with Wal-mart doing away with LW, the BF and TD ads will decide which I go to this year. Comparable items or prices will get me in the door of KM. Bad deals at KM will drive me to WM. They are only a couple of miles away from each other in my town. AND they are the only two big retailers in my town (no Target, BestBuy, CC, etc.).

I haven't went to K-Mart on T-day simply because they make people work on that day for the greed of money. If they would only be open until 11:00 it wouldn't be bad since the people could still be with their family. That's probably why the people are in a bad mood and the place is dirty. K-mart doesn't care about their employees so why should the employees care about how the store looks.

Can't say I do... turkey day is for eating turkey, watching a little football and getting to bed early (or not sleeping, depends) for BF.

I used to back in the day for certain hit it on BF though. It seems however that they've been dropping off the "must hit" page.

That, and their stores have a sad, desperate feel to them any time I've gone inside lately.

KMart was my second store to visit on BF for about 3 years, but always was a problem to pay the correct price for the BF Items. They scan and the regular price appears, and if you don't have your BF Ad on hand, they don't change the price. I know that those employees are working so hard in that day, but i think is the same in all the other stores that open early on BF. This year i think my firsth stop will be BB, then maybe TRU or WM. I think that the sale ad they put out on Thanksgiving day is great, but the store that we have you can't find anything in. If they don't have it on a pallet there is no hope of knowing where it will be. They also don't have any prices on the product or on the shelf. If I'm in the area on T-day I will go, but I won't go out of my way.

I agree that the t-day ad doesn't look appealing to me either. So I probably won't make the 45 minute drive to the nearest k-mart on t-day. But maybe on bf....we'll have to see what the other stores are offering in comparison;)

I know in the past it was only crowded around the gb games because everyone wanted them. If I want that 7mp camera I will probably get it without any problems. I know our Kmart gives ticket for the more expensive hot items. That is how I got a GBsp on year for 49.99. They were advertised as a regular gb color but shipped the wrong item. So I got it for over half the going price of the GBsp that year. I had no clue other than the guy in line insisted I take the ticket when I told him I wanted sp not the regular one.

Most KMart workers are volunteers or those who really need the double time and a half pay. I worked at one for 9 years in Ohio and volunteered for a 6 hour shift every Thanksgiving to earn extra money for Christmas gifts. It made for a very nice paycheck and still had time to be with family.

Now that we live in an area with Meijer, that is the first stop for Thanksgiving sales. Garden Ridge is usually having good deals too. Anymore we do more shopping on Thanksgiving than we do on BF, ad dependant of course.

Very few retailers are closed on Thanksgiving anymore-and now with stores opening at midnight on BF, the employees actually must report to work at 9-10 PM on Thanksgiving to prep for the rush. I would rather get a 6 hour shift in at KMart than have to sleep all day to work a midnight shift the day after.

I like getting out on thanksgiving. We go to Michigan to visit dh's family. Last year fil, sil and I went to Meijer and Kmart together. So I guess that makes it family time lol. I'm a sahm so everyday is "family" day and I really look forward to this one time of year when I can enjoy shopping alone, or with adults guilt free.

Even when there is nothing we need by mid afternoon a couple of us usually head out of the house to go visit a store. Only so much eating one can do:eek:

I started going to Kmart on Thanksgiving Day three years ago by myself and love it. It gets me pumped for the big day and I get a lot of great things. However their ad is not as great as the past few years. Usually they have gameboy games for 6.99 and body lotion sets 60% off and others that they do not have this year. I also go to big lots they are open on thanksgiving day in Michigan too. Last year they had the lighted deers and trees for 8 bucks. Great deal.

I have gotten so I avoid K-mart. Lately the ones here are dirty, understocked, no help and I just get frustrated.

Same here, but i'd like to add overpriced. I'll stick to Walmart.

I filed for the ADA lawsuit class action suit against Kmart. We are supposed to get $200 gift cards (Texas settlement) before the end of the year. It would be really great if it came before Thanksgiving day.:) But I'll probably be there on Thanksgiving morning since there is no one to cook for here anymore.

I used to always go...but they closed our KMart down   and now the closest one is an hour away so it makes not sense to drive that far. I really wish we still had our Kmart so I could shop there on Thanksgiving morning. That was great!

Kmart is not my first pick of stores to go to, because they have told me before that they only get 2 or 3 of certain items.

I go every year to K-mart thanksgiving day, i find they have better deals and more of them than the day after! last year they had games buy one get one free. was awesome for the kids, and other gifts! but I always make k-mart my last stop on bf, they always have very small quantities.

Thanksgiving Day sales at Kmart are great. There is hardly anybody there because they are in bed for BF rush and you can scope out the exact layout of the store and guess where bf items will be, and demise your game plan.

Yes, I am also looking for the Thanksgiving Day Kmart sale scan. Am I missing it? I've looked here and several other places online with no luck.

We love doing the Kmart thing on Thanksgiving. My whole family gets together at my Aunts house (Kmart in her town just a couple of miles away) we have our big dinner, and then we all hurry and get the dishes cleaned up and about 15 of us head on over to Big K and check out the good deals. It's just something fun to do. Some of the men come along while others watch football or take naps. It's a fun day.
