No more MIR's, so I wonder how good their doorbusters will be. In the past, their best sales involved MIRs. I usually stop here because they are right next to my local Best Buy.

Yeah, OM BF 2005 was just like their regular sales. http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Indifferent/rolleyes1.gif

I was always a fan of office max, but I havn't bought much there since they did away with MIR a year ago. I liked getting stuff free, but i agree that bf 2005 was a dud. I drove by after visiting best buy last year maybe 5:30am...nobody was in line for their 6:00 open. I didn't even go.

Those deals, along with NO mail-in rebates is going to make OfficeMax a definite stop for me! Looks like they learned their lesson from their BF 2005 sale.

And that one has pretty decent reviews:

Just remember that it is going to have a "starter" toner cartridge in the box. You'll need a regular toner cartridge before long. That is the case with virtually ALL printers out there though.

It looks like it says at the top of the ad that Online shopping for the sale starts at 12:01 am Thanksgiving day. I wonder if that's for all items or just for the online only printer they've got. If it is for everything, I'll buy some cheap SD cards in my Pajamas when I put the turkey in the oven Thursday morning.

Office Max was one of my favorites but with no FAR stuff I don't think I will be stopping there this year on BF. Maybe Staples will have some good deals....

Some of the lower priced items were regularly "free with rebate" before OM did away with MIR's. I bought two "free" OM Computer Tool Kits in the past but I'd still recommend them @<hidden> $3.99 because they're a good basic kit. The Surge Protectors @<hidden> $3.99 you can probably find cheaper w/ MIR's at Staples, OD, CC or BB, on BF or other times during the year. I've bought Webroot Spy Sweeper three different times for "free" with rebates although you usually need an "upgrade" rebate to get it it for free. The Sandisk 2 GB SD card is a good buy though, at $12.99. The last one we got was $29.99 w/ rebate. It can be a hassle to use MIR's (other than at Staples & CompUSA where their system are great!) but getting items for "free" is a good incentive. Our OM shopping really dropped off when they discontinued MIR's.

I belong to the MaxPerks for Teachers and they just sent me a 15% off total purchase card good until 12-1. If you know any teachers that are signed up, they may give you the card. The enrollment into the program took about 3 weeks so I don't think you'll have time to enroll and get the card for BF.

About the Averatec 2370 laptop that's supposed to be on sale on BF, I called my local OM and they said that none of the stores carry laptops; they can only be purchased online. Does this mean that the laptop will be available at 12:01 at BF? I'm a bit confused.

OfficeMax stores don't normally carry laptops, but they probably will for Black Friday. Try calling closer to BF, or just call a different OfficeMax (to get a different manager).

I just returned from visiting two Office Max stores in Houston and neither one of them had laptops. I talked to the manager at the last one and he said that only 4 or 5 stores in Houston are allowed to carry laptops. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? I asked him why they ran ads for laptops if all the stores wouldn't have them and he said that all the laptops in the ads can be ordered online. That I don't believe because the Avertec laptop in the BF ad isn't even listed online and someone in an earlier post said that the ad says that the laptop is available in store only. Houston is a large city and if only 4 or 5 stores have laptops, I can only imagine how hard it would be to find a store that carries them in a smaller place. Anybody got any comments or thoughts on this?

What time would you recommend getting in line at OM for the Averatec 2370 laptop?

They open at 5am in my area. The worker mentioned that they had like 7 laptops in stock that were in the back (I tried looking for the display one, so I can try it out - but none were on display since they are selling it on BF is what he told me). He worked last year on BF and told me 4am is the time to get in line. But 4am sounds late, I want to make sure that I can get the laptop. ;)

I looked at the ad on the officemax website (if you go to the "weekly ad" tab on the right side of the screen and enter a zip code, you can view the ad for this week). None of the items are the same as the ad posted on gottadeal.com

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, because I hope I am. The sale that I see SUCKS.

A lot of the "rush" will be for stores like Best Buy and Circuit City. I've gone to Officemax, Office Depot and Staples for the past 2 years in a row. In my experience, going an hour early is good enough. I bought the 27" widescreen HD LCD TV from Office Depot (3 per store) and we only arrived 15 minutes before they opened.

This is the first time that Officemax has opened at 5 am though.

What you can do is go to OM for 3 am. If no one's there, hang out in your car. Keep one eye on the door and another on other vehicles arriving in the parking lot. Once people start showing up, then you need to get in line too.

Unfortunately, you'll never know if you were too early, only if you were too late.

I'm in the same boat. Plus the $1.99 USB goodies and the 64-Disc CD holder are in-store only. The Averatec Laptop is too, but I'm not after that...

I went to store Friday morning and I must say I have never seen customer service the way they were set up and ready to go....................They were GREAT we were IMPRESSED.

They had an associate meet you at the door and help you get everything you needed.
I dont go there very often so I dont know if this is usual stuff, but we were tickled about it. Im thinking I may even call Monday morning and tell them how impressed I was with their organization!

They even had a girl at the door speaking over their walkie talkie thingys telling them when a car pulled in and how many people, so any free employee could greet them at the door.

Kudos from me to Office Max!!!

Called officemax today about the 2335 notebook I ordered friday morning at 5:30 am. They promised 7 working days delivery when I ordered. When I called they said it was back ordered and would be 7 to 10 working days maybe! The maybe was that I might not get it at all. There was a hint that I might be able to substitue but no word what the terms would be.
