View Full Version : What's your favorite Christmas decorating theme? abentley 7-28-2006, 2:54 PM My favorite is "gingerbread". Men, houses and flavor!! Ok, I love candy canes, and decorating with red & white too. Firemansgal311 7-28-2006, 2:58 PM Our tree is mostly disney we even have a Mickey topper. I want to split the kids ornaments up on individual trees and have a traditional white and gold tree in the living area. But that'll wait at least another year til we move. lennon2004 7-28-2006, 3:04 PM Old. Well, not really, but since we don't really have a "theme", we use a bunch of different ornaments, and some are pretty old. Great Dane Mom 7-28-2006, 3:20 PM I'm beginning to feel like the Kranks. I like the idea of skipping Christmas and going to Bermuda or someplace tropical. mrn8 7-28-2006, 3:41 PM Our tree is mostly disney we even have a Mickey topper. I want to split the kids ornaments up on individual trees and have a traditional white and gold tree in the living area. But that'll wait at least another year til we move. Ours is, too. We've got a Tinkerbell topper and a few of the Disney ornament sets (Peter Pan, Incredibles, Toy Story). nubeedeallover 7-28-2006, 4:00 PM Snowmen!! I used to have my bedroom decorated with snowmen all year round when I was younger. Now they just come out at Christmas-time and they are everywhere! mmm40 7-28-2006, 4:07 PM Angels sherril 7-28-2006, 4:20 PM Our tree os Looney Toons. But I like the snowmen theme. I have the whole snowmen set for the bathroom. Steakgoddess 7-28-2006, 4:37 PM I don't have a theme. The upstairs tree is done by color (changes every year) This year the tree (and house) will be decorated in green, red, and white. The downstairs tree is a small, sad little thing I picked up on clearance at Target one year. That is where all of our "memories" and funky ornaments sit. conj 7-28-2006, 4:40 PM hanukah. I hang dreidels off the Xmas tree at work :) becca0884 7-28-2006, 4:42 PM Our ornaments were mostly made by my mom, dad, and grandma in the early-mid 80s. lol They are all ceramic & painted. It has memories to them, but I just think they look tacky now. lol JazzMama 7-28-2006, 4:58 PM I guess mine is more of a color theme. We have alot of jewel-tone blown glass ornaments and tabletop pieces. We also have lots of pine sprigs/berries and crystal candleholders on all of the tables, entertainment center, etc. My main thing, though, is having lots of holiday-scented candles lit nearly every evening. Last year it was the pine tree scent from Bath&Body Works, but who knows for this year. bugsette 7-28-2006, 4:58 PM snowmen and then they stay up to the end of Feb. Scott 7-28-2006, 4:59 PM We have airplanes all over our tree... Gator Pam 7-28-2006, 6:35 PM hanukah. I hang dreidels off the Xmas tree at work :) Ditto. I don't hang dreidels on the tree at work, but my theme at home is dreidels, menorahs, blue and white, etc. Now at FIL's, who is Wisconsin Lutheran born and raised and whom we visit for Chr-stmas Day, the theme is eccletic with inherited ornaments and decorations. ccarson1972 7-28-2006, 6:53 PM We don't have a certain theme. I have all kinds of ornaments including character ones. I use a multi-color, multi-function light set and also hang candy canes on the tree. mitchandalisha 7-28-2006, 7:11 PM I decorate my tree with gold and silver ornaments and white lights. I think it's beautiful! Talking about it makes me want to put it up!! biomajor 7-28-2006, 7:15 PM I don't have a theme at all. tyler99199 7-28-2006, 7:19 PM My wife and I have the same birthstone,Amethyst,so mostly our tree is decorated in purple Gloey 7-28-2006, 7:47 PM I've become quite bah humbug and not decorated the past couple of years since I don't have any children at home anymore. I don't mind putting up but I sure hate taking down. Last year though, I bought a set of those skinny forest trees on sale after Christmas and may stick them up. Easy! bayhaysay 7-28-2006, 8:36 PM I don't have a theme. Whatever ornaments the kids have made and all the others are just all thrown on the tree with some candy canes, ribbon, and lights. Shortness 7-28-2006, 8:42 PM I have a precious moments angel topper. My aunt bought me glass ornaments (variety), so I decorate with those. I really love some folk art santas and snowmen I have. I'd do the whole things that way if I had enough. Steakgoddess 7-28-2006, 10:45 PM We have airplanes all over our tree... Dh would be ecstatic with that. codeblue 7-28-2006, 10:56 PM The tree is mostly hallmark keepsake ornaments and everything else is snowmen. bayhaysay 7-28-2006, 11:01 PM Angels My mom does angels, I love them. :) JBKing 7-29-2006, 12:31 AM Tons of white lights, indoor and out. fulfam 7-29-2006, 12:43 AM No theme here. We have white lights on the tree with ornaments from our childhoods, and some new for our children, I have made ones with their names on them. Then we hang all other ornaments and icicles on the tree with a snowman for a tree topper. The icicles are great I love how they glow, and they are just cheap ones I got at the dollar store. rabx5 7-29-2006, 9:20 AM We have airplanes all over our tree... Cool- i would like to see that. I really don't have a theme either. 99% of my ornaments are hand made though. Every year growing up my mom would buy a special ornament for me and my sis. When we moved out, we got to take them-a nice start.Well, she did the same for my kids and now they each will have their own box of their ornies when they leave too. It's awesome because everytime we go to hang one up, one of the kids will say "remember that year? ect...." We started buying an ornie from when we vacation. Last year when we went to Epcot in Disney we bought one from each country in the World Showcase, and if they didn't have one, we bought a lil flag and just tuck them in the tree here and there. This year at Disney, I bought Mickey Mouse lights :D I will wrap them in my evergreen swags and hang them in the doorway. Geeze, I really had a lot to say about this-sorry. I just enjoy decorating for the holidays I guess :tongue1: Illinoismom 7-29-2006, 10:01 AM we decorate trees, The living room one is done in all dated ornamints and multi function lights, That is the Santa toom, Santa village, Animated Santa cat and dog, Santa with sliegh and two riendeer animated, Santa standing alone Animated, Santa feeding reindeer in Barn animated, and a teddy rupskin dressed as santa and a 5 ft singing dancing Santa in entry way, Alcove has a small village that sits on my desk there with a tree thats white decorated in red, and on the wall across are hung all the first two years of the kids stockings, The Bathroom has a small tree done in green and white that sits on the counter, Kitchen is the snowman room with the entry way to the family room has a 5 foot singing and dancing Snowman , the Family room has a skinny tree that is decorated with stuffed animals and Rudolf that would be the rudolph room, complete with table top snowglobe also Rudoph and a smaller version of the out side ones huseboy 9-8-2006, 5:05 PM I like the western themed tree I try every year to get more after Christmas to add. Gporter34 9-10-2006, 1:35 AM I usually don't stick with just one thing, but I have snowmen everywhere. This year I am going to try to not buy anymore snowmen. But I will still use both the white tree and the green one. We also have the small trees in each of the kids' bedrooms and one in our room beside the fireplace. The outside of the house will be covered in lights...again.LOL ebony0421 9-10-2006, 11:40 AM The tree that goes in the living room is done in burgundy and gold with white lights and bows. There are Angels and Santas on there, as well as a Santa topper. The tree that goes in the family room is done in snowmen and snowwomen, candy canes, fake peppermint candy ornaments, white lights, a snowman skirt and a snowman topper. The little tree that sits on the kitchen counter has ornaments that the children made. The tree that goes in the dining room has gold ornaments and white lights only. Outside we use white lights only, reindeer, sleigh, an angel and a wreath. Lvnlakers78 9-10-2006, 12:17 PM My husband loves the M&M guys so we do an M&M Christmas tree it is very cute!!! cleverbffool 9-10-2006, 3:46 PM The tree in the family room is mostly ornaments that the kids made, but the tree in the living room is more formal with bows and all the same colors usually red and gold. ~*~Jess~*~ gisellerol 9-10-2006, 5:00 PM no theme here I just pick up cute ornaments whenever i see them. next month im going to florida so I will definitely go to downtown disney to the christmas shop and pick up some new ornaments. shaneslove 9-23-2006, 9:46 PM this year we get to pick a new theme since last year my dog ate ALL of my ornaments shaneslove 9-23-2006, 9:49 PM The tree that goes in the living room is done in burgundy and gold with white lights and bows. OK I would love to see your house at Christmas time :yup: :holiday07 tiggstt 9-23-2006, 10:18 PM I used to love Christmas, not just the holiday but the feeling in the air! My christmas would last from Thanksgiving until Little Christmas (one week into January). Then my ex put my littlest one's live in danger during christmas time and I almost lost her. Now we (my 2 girls and I) try to get away from home that time of year. This is the 3rd year in a row we'll be on a cruise ship for christmas. love2beurwifey 9-23-2006, 10:21 PM Mostly Red & White Turtle Mommy 9-24-2006, 2:26 PM My favorite is "gingerbread". Men, houses and flavor!! Ditto! f1rstclass 9-24-2006, 5:46 PM Not really a theme kinda person...we enjoy just getting nice things and setting them around the house, not going for any type of theme or design, just what makes us happy! oldandintheway 9-26-2006, 12:51 AM This year I'm planning on a "Grateful Dead" tree with GD ornaments, GD mini bears, purple balls as fillers and purple lights. We also might be doing multiple trees this year. I have too many ornaments, and I would like to display more of them, so multiple trees might be a good idea. cactusmom 9-26-2006, 9:29 AM I like my tree to have an old fashioned victorian type 'feel' to it. I have a lot of homemade and hand painted stuff I have made, and a lot of lacey looking stuff. I also like my home to have a lot of deep red and green colors going on :D misshayley 9-26-2006, 9:45 AM Right now we don't have a theme, but I have enough ornaments to do a Coca-Cola tree and a small care bear tree. kbrady2 9-26-2006, 5:02 PM Last year I did "Christmas has gone to the Dogs" I had dog bones on the tree, milkbones and rawhide. I had lots of dog ornaments, Doggie Jingle Bells playing on the speakers, A picture of the dogs in santa clothes above the mantle, dog bowls (new and clean) with people food in them for the Open house, and hanging outside was a wreath and garland with dog ornaments and bows with a sign saying "Fleas Navidad" on the wall. meow62 9-26-2006, 6:52 PM At our house, Christmas goes to the cats! Our tree is filled with cat ornaments, and we always add the new releases each year; if our ceilings were high enough, a 12-foot tree would probably hold all of them! One year I got really ambitious and put up 5 trees: 3 cat themed, 1 artic theme with polar bears, penguins, and snowmen, and 1 with assorted miniatures (don't think I'll tackle that again any time soon!). And you can't have a cat tree without the motion-activated caroling cats in a gift box, the singing cat wreath, the stuffed cats with Santa hats, cat stockings and stocking holders, etc. Meow-y Christmas everyone! :D Hummingbird 9-27-2006, 6:26 AM I don't really have a theme, usualy ornaments my girls have made in school or girl scouts. I have purchased a couple of glass hummingbird ornaments I have found so I'll eventually make that the focus. I have a miniature tree that I decorate and put upstairs between the girls bed rooms that has an assortment of little ornaments you can tie onto packages. NeepNeep 9-27-2006, 5:07 PM No theme here. Just an assortment of mostly handmade ornaments over the many years. This year I did some plastic canvas ornaments for our tree, and to give as gifts. Having some ornament sets to spare comes in handy if I need a last minute gift for someone. smangham 9-27-2006, 7:06 PM Okay...now I KNOW what I'm going to do this year. I was at the Old Navy clearance sale today and found really cool black and white graphic designed paper for $2.50 a roll (regularly $5). I"m going to wrap all the presents in that paper...and use bright jewel colored bows and ribbons on them. Whadda you think? Does it even sound cute? I tend to like the dramatic. Cecilliadb 9-28-2006, 7:04 PM I don't really have a theme but I like the european style I guess. I like to feel like I'm walking into my own little world back in time with embroiderd bows and all the trimmings. holly2hottie 9-29-2006, 12:11 PM Well since my name is Holly, That is my favorite theme.
