I don't remember... I just remember a post and replying to it and that was the last I heard of it.

I'm not sure what a flat rate envelope is? Don't we just use a regular one?

I've never done this before...is the idea to compile a list of names/addresses and send it to the first one, then they check for expired ones, add more and take what they want and then mail it to the 2nd etc??

There are several ways this can be done.
1. One person sends out one envelope, and it makes its rounds. When you get it, take what you need, but add back the same #. Takes a while for people on the end of the train tho.
2. With this many people, probably better if EVERYONE sends out an envelope to whoever the next person is. That way, every few days, you get a new one.

If Ashley doesnt reply to this soon, I would be happy to start it.

Joyce~ They're will be a small set of directions inside....
Basically you take the coupons you want and replace them with unexpireds that you dont want.

If theres any close to the expiration date, remove them. (Jewel takes them Joyce if you have on nearby...)

If you dont wanna be on the next round at any time you get the train, cross your name off.

You will ALWAYS send to the person below you on the list. Included with EACH mailing.
Please affix enough postage, its bad ettiquete to make the person next pay... If theres 30 coupons in the envelope, the current postage rate is sufficent.
Take whatever coupons you would like, but replace them.
Do not put expired in the envelope, please.
If there are coupons close to the exp. date when you recieve it, please pull them and replace them.
If you do not wish to be on the train the next round, CROSS your name off or PM me, Deals4me, and let me know and I will cross you off when it reaches me.

I took it to the post office this morning so it's on its way Patty. I forgot to write Round 1, Train 1 on the envelope though, I remembered as I was driving back home.

Ashley I photocopied the list with everybodys name on it on regular paper because it was a little lighter so I could add a few coupons. I weighed it to make sure that it didn't need additional postage. I added and took out coupons until it was just right. If you want the original list back I still have it.

Hope I didn't mess anything up.

What does everybody think about putting more postage on the envelopes so that we could put more coupons in the envelopes? I put as many as I could in the envelope today and was at the post office taking out coupons and adding them one at a time so the weight wasn't over the limit. But I have at least as many coupons as I put in the envelope still left here that I could have added. Just an idea for everybody to consider when they get the envelope.

Adding coupons for more postage should be up to the next person. If they want to do it...woo for them. But its gonna be up to the next person if they want to carry it on. I cant get to the p.o often...its to far (damnus country pokeys)

p.s. GENERAL rule of Thumb. 30 coupons will equal the current postage rate.

Question - I would like to know what the quideline is for removing those "close" to expiring? Is it within 1 or 2 days or within 1 week or what?

I guess what I am thinking is April 22 or April 30 expirations suppose to keep going or not. I have a ton of April 30 ones I could add but is that too close to expiring?

I have been cutting them from the usual sources or purhsing them from couponclippers.com and even though it isnt too expensive, I find that the quantity I have to purchase (like 5 of 1 coupon) just is cost prohibitive on some of the coupons because I would never purchase 5 of that item before it expired. Now, if I was still working, I would have just purchased all 5 but I am not.....

The thing with a train is you put in coupons you have no use for. So someone else might. Your coupons wouldnt be swapped per se. You would send them on to the night person...and them the next till it came back to you.

We need a starter for train 5, and then were set. Unless ya'll think we need more trains?

I replaced over 20 coupons that were set to expire either today or 4/30. I just couldn't leave them in there when the next person would only have a few days to use them. I'm not trying to whine or anything .. just wondering if we could have a set amount of time before the coupons expire that they're included. 2 weeks perhaps? I hope someone can decipher that sentence, it doesn't make much sense but I dont' know how else to say it! I know its sucks because it always seems there's a ton that expire at the same time. I just don't want this to turn in to a way to dump expired or soon to expire coupons ;)

Again, I'm not complaining and don't want anyone to feel offended or hurt or attacked .. I just feel that having to replace over half the coupons in an envie when I only used 2 isn't quite fair. This has been really fun so far and I'm excited that there are so many people signed up on the trains! I get sad when I have to throw out coupons that I didn't use, even though when I clipped them I knew I wouldn't .. it's nice to be able to share with others!

LOL .. Thanks for not taking it personally! :tongue1: That's what I figured and I was going to send it along with the same reasoning but the envie was sitting on my desk haunting me! .. I debated on even mentioning it but I was on a Yahoo group before that got crazy .. it seemed that every post was about someone leaving in too many of one coupon, not enough of another and since I never complained I ended up with all the junky ones that I couldn't use. That's why I'm so excited about this one ;) There's no drama (at least on this thread!) and it's more about sharing stuff that we're not using rather than getting anything we can get our hands on!

Maybe we can mark by our names on the list or something if we CAN use expireds .. I'm like you, I hate throwing out coupons .. it's like throwing out cash!

Got it and it is headed to Eufaula AL. I put 2 37 cent stamps because I added about 30 coupons to the stack myself. I was dissapointed that there were so few coupons in there when it got here so maybe we do need to put more postage on. I should have run to the post office first and checked the weight because I know it didnt need 2 37's but I didnt have any smaller stamps here at the house. However out of the coupons I got, I was able to get about $2 worth of coupons to keep. Thanks coupon train!

Unfortunately somebody is going to get stuck replacing a bunch of coupons at the end of every month, hopefully it won't be the same person over & over again. I don't know how we can avoid this... any suggestions?

Are we all part of all of the trains or are there 7 separate trains with 10 different people on each one?

If there are 7 different trains can we join more than one? If so I will also join train 7, I am already on train 1.

I think the trains stay separate-- or at least that's how others work. To work well, the 10 members on the train should have a wish list to help others see what they like, then you remove the coupons you want and try to put in some of equivalent value, not too many duplicates. You could be on more than one as long as you're careful about mailing to the right next person. Altho it seems silly to have these cross the country and spend more time in mail, i think that's the best way to see different coupons since newspapers seem to be owned by same co based on area. Maybe if you are on more than one we occassionally switch the lists?

Where are the trains?

Ashlee sent me an email that said that we are all part of the trains and that she will still coordinate it all but now I just saw another post about a train so I'm not sure what's going on and where are these trains that were already started and is it the same train or a new different one? I don't know about the other trains but it sounds like the other post is a new different train.

Ashley now has a new user title so I'm assuming she won't be coordinating them from here.
