I prefer lite on but any brand is worth a look if the price is right.

I also want it at least 8x and prefer usb over firewire or preferably one that will connect both ways.

The most cost-effective method is to buy an internal DVD Burner ($50) and mount it inside an external enclosure ($30).

I would recommend FireWire, assuming you already have FireWire on your desktop/laptop.
