No you cannot just cancel. Well you can but they will charge you the remaining of what you owe them. Consider it an interest free loan.
You can get the 15.00 month plan, 180.00 you pay back, when you get an instant credit of 250.00. Kinda silly NOT to. But that is my opinion, and you all know what they say about opinions. LOL

What I meant was, if I pay for the laptop and sign up for AOL at that time, then the next day is there any way to cancel AOL and stop paying them??
Maybe a little underhanded, but I just don't need AOL.

The fine print says if you cancel early you still owe the montly fee times number of months still on your contract. I'm thinking they would charge whatever card you use when you sign up. But if you sign up for the $15/month plan get the $250 rebate then cancel the AOL the next day, you still save ~$70! I don't need the AOL but since I already have broadband I just keep it for the year and maybe log on every once and awhile. Even if I never use it it will still save me some $$.

Kinda Makes Sense when you put it that way... $380 Total. $199 Down, Finance $180 Interest Free for 12 Months.

I might just do that.

If you sign up for a credit card along with the purchaseof the laptop, you get no interest financing for 12 months.

Oops, 12 MONTHS of AOL...not years.

My mom will be ther around 4, but the Ciruit City where I live is a small one in a small, sleepy town...Hopefully there won't be too many people there, but as I'm working that morning I cannot purchase the laptop myself and 4:00 is the earlierst my mother wants to go at. :crossfing

Yeah but that's real Credit (DEBT).. which is evil... I just busted ass to get myself down to nothing but a mortage. Don't want any knew Credit card Debt. I can shell out the $199 for the laptop, that's not a problem.

I just got back from Circuit city, and they were printing flyers to post around the store on one of the display printers. One of the flyers they were printing was about the AOL deal. You CAN get the 14.95 plan, you must be 18 years or older , and if you cancel before the end of your 12 month comminent, you will be charged for the remaining months right then. It also said that the $250 could be used on anything in the store (so you dont actually have to buy a computer to get this deal), so this might be a good deal for anybody that would like to have $250 to spend for christmas right now, and only have to pay back $180 over 12 monthly payments.

Does the 14.99/month plan come with any ability to use the dial-up (even if it a limited # of hours a month)? Will AOL let you upgrade/downgrade your plan mid-contract?

ForceSith

YOu probably can up/down grade, but the 15 dollar plan is ONLY for people already with broadband. I'm sure you can buy broadband service frm them, but iti will cost you.

Im in so cal and the computer tech guy at my CC told me that most CC stores will have about 33 laptops. Th catch is that only 15 of them will be at the advertised price. The rest will be listed for $100 more because of added software. He told me he was instructed to add spysweep, nortons, and do a system overhaul or something that makes the puter go faster. On a side note the guy who worked in the notebook area told me that the notebook wont even support Sims, is he lying?

Hi, first time poster here, but I noticed everyone had questions on the circuit City laptop. I work for Circuit City, and here's the deal:

It's 200 dollars with the 12 years of AOL at 25 bucks a month.

HOWEVER

We were told by managment that the same 250 dollars off applies if you only get the 15 dollar a month AOL for broadband. So, the total would come to around 380 dollars for the laptop. Get it while it's there, each store is only going to have 15 laptops.

(I'm sending my mom to get me one in the morning myself)

That'snot totally true. My CC has 28 I went in today and saw 20 in the case and the manager told me they have 28 total.

That's something I've heard about BB before, never about CC. I would be really dissapointed with them. I think I would try everything I could not to pay for any extras, but I don't know what those chances are if they have more than the minimum required...

Sounds good... just make sure everybody to CANCEL THE AO-HELL before your year is up or they'll go right ahead and charge you for another year. And my experience is that they're really difficult to cancel. There's no way to do it online... be prepared for a loooong time on hold. But, it might be worth the savings. :)

Thank you! so, I might consider even doing this and just use it (I am on a tight budget right now) , but then what if it isn't available where i live? (Out in the semi-boonies - can get cable but not DSL). I could still sign up and not use it, right?

Hi everyone! I just wanted everyone to know that in Logan, WV Walmart, the flyer says $488... and so does the website. In Charleston (50 miles away), online, it says the laptop is $378. I called AND went in to talk to Customer Service at Walmart in Logan... they said that they WILL NOT PriceMatch any other Walmart, so I guess I will head to Wally World early... I think it is odd that they will PM other stores, such as Target and Circuit City (of which there are NONE in Logan), but won't PM another Walmart. I was told that many people had approached them about the Charleston prices, and they have all been told the same thing as I was. :( Also... their HP 5 MP camera that is advertised $98 in Logan, is $88 in Charleston....

go in, buy it at the higher price, take it to the other store later in the morning and go to customer service for the refund...you will likely be one of few if they have a lot of people griping about it already and you will still get the deal

Hey everyone,

Just a headsup if anyone was interested in the 579 BB laptop that has the DVD write BF special, I just checked the website and it is available online. I have one in my cart currently, but it is not available for instore pickup, so unless there is a free shipping code somewhere, shipping is 19.99. Is that worth not standing in any line? I don't know how many people were interested in that model though.

Well, I think the best Black Friday (or weekend) deal is the v2000 from OFFICE DEPOT. I know, Office Depot bad.....but it's the system I'm buying. Here's my justification I posted on the v2000 thread on Fatwallet comparing the v2000 to the Best Buy and Walmart. Here are my two posts. Just search for v2000 to find the thread in the fatwallet hot deals forum.

Post 1

I've priced out exact same options though HPShopping (which is offering a $50MIR anf $150 instant), CompUSA who has a sale with rebates that ends tonight I believe, some refurbished systems though HP, eCost, etc.......... andOffice Depot is DEFINATELY the best deal on the v2000.

Personally, I think this deal is at least as hot compared to the $380-$450 BF notebooks. Go to best buy and look at the Toshiba and then look at the v2000. The Toshiba looks like a $380 notebook. I think the Compaq looks much more expensive. The screen is great and the size and weight is great. And you can get it exactly the way you want. It doesn't have a crappy battery or a crappy 90 day warranty. Plus, you don't have to get in line so early in the morning. But it's more expensive.

For me this is the BETTER DEAL...even though it's MORE EXPENSIVE. I have to pay more for the base and pay to have wireless added ($30), but I also get a 1 year warranty, a good battery, a wide screen display, and a better sized notebook for me compared to the bulkier Toshiba.

The shipping for MOST stores should be $69. I called Office Depot, which forwarded me to Tech Depot, and they even verified in my store to make sure. The $69 would match what HP Shopping charges. And k01 is right, the HPShopping website will give you a very good idea of the upgrade prices and options.

Just my opinion. If anyone thinks otherwise or DID find a better deal on an HP/Compaq 14" widescreen system....I'd love to hear about it.

Post 2

Barest configureations including shipping and 7% tax where charged (at least for me). And there are more differences or advantage/disadvantages then I listed...but just wanted to give you an idea.

Base Configuration Pricing including Best Buy and WalMart vs the v2000 at OD
============================================================================

Office Depot v2000 $460 (1.3Ghz processor instead of min 1.4Ghz at HPShopping...MAYBE 1.4 will be subbed?, $150 MIR)
HP Shopping v2000 $568 (ability to return though late January on all HP Shopping systems $50 MIR)
HP Shopping v2000Z $599 (for the AMD fans out there, 802.11g, free shipping makes this close in price, $50 MIR)
HP Shopping DV1000 $749 (free DVDRW with Lightscribe, free shipping, no boot DVD/MP3 playback, remote $50 MIR)

WalMart HP $405 (std width 15" which is step down to me from the 14.1 wide, incl 802.11g, DVD/CD-RW)
Best Buy Toshiba $405 (std width 15", incl 802.11g, DVD/CD-RW, 1-1.5 hr battery, 90 dacy warranty...my WORST deal)

All other stores and refurbished models were just plain more expensive.

Possible upgrades (Prices according to HP Shopping, OD might be higher on some, lower on some)
=================
802.11G $25 ($29 at OD)
802.11G + Bluetooth $44
12 Cell Battery $39 (std is 6 cell, 12 cell does stick out of the bottom of the notebook)
Media Slots $25 (I believe this can be added on the celeron model, no CF, but adds Firewire!!!!)
BRIGHTVIEW $25 (there are a lot of fans of this option....it does look really nice)
Memory and Hard Dr $?? (memory is cheaper to add later, HDD upgrades start at $25)
....and others.....

My price justification, base unit v2000 vs BB and WalMart...there is nothing scientific about these numbers, just values either I assigned, or the cost of the upgrade. WalMart is considered the baseline system.

Value vs actual cost using WalMart as the baseline
==================================================
WalMart $405 BASELINE
$405 VALUE for $405
Office Depot +$50 14.1 widescreen, -$29 no wireless, -$10 no CD/RW, +$50 size/weight +$50 ability to customize!!!!
$526 VALUE for $460
Best Buy $405 -$70 poor battery, -$35 90 day warranty
$300 VALUE for $405

I feel for me the Office Depot notebook is a better value.....just love the form factor of the v2000 plus the ability to order it exactly the way I want it with reasonably priced upgrade.

Just wanted to share my opinions and the justfications I used. Not trying to talk anyone out of the other deals. All three are good. Hope all this made some sense.

Okay y'all, beating a dead horse here I know, but can we just break this down to the nitty gritty one last time for dear StickyKeys?

Which do y'all think is better?

Circuit City Toshiba laptop with free printer and wireless card

or

Dell computer with free printer and wireless card.

Speaking in BF terms, which is getting more bang for your buck?
Toshiba laptop for $449 @ CC is the better laptop.
More RAM, larger HD, 15.0" TruBrite LCD display, get it immediately and no rebate hassles.

Can someone give more info on the Dell deal? I went to the site and the cheapest computer I saw was about $549.

Sure, it's right here: Dell Inspiron 2200 for $399 (http://forums.gottadeal.com/showthread.php?t=21131) after rebate with FREE PRINTER!

can anybody answer, which is a better deal: Dell or Wallmarts?

Dell is better.

Dell deal is for $389 i believe

Dell laptop is actually $399 (http://forums.gottadeal.com/showthread.php?t=21131) after rebate.

If I can get it I will do my best to get the Circuit City deal. For the Dell, to get the add ons I want, it would make the computer about $700.

Circuit City is my choice. That sounds so weird saying...

You could update the wireless card for $29, upgrade the DVD drive so it records on DVD-R for $89, just all the add on crap. Memory upgrade for $29, Hard drive upgrade for $59, etc.

I figured that if I was going through Dell I could spend a bit more and do one of their payment plans, but the computer wouldn't ship out until the 2nd and they had a kind of sucky 90 day warranty on it.

There were a couple of other items I wanted (remote, wireless mouse), but I found those on Ebay for next to nothing. Also, the printer with the circuit city package says it's an all in one, where as the Dell is just a reg. printer.

Do you have any more info on the printer. When they say all in one, I assume printer/scanner/copier. Is this correct.

Wireless upgrade is to 802.11a/b/g which is totally unecessary, all you need is b/g.
DVD Burner is a good idea, you can view and burn CD's and DVD's.
Memory upgrade is also a good idea, I would recommend 512MB RAM.

Dell does offer financing but so does Circuit City.

You can upgrade the Dell warranty from 90 days to 1 year, which I would highly recommend.

Yep, AIO (all in one) usually implies scan/print/copy and possibly fax.

I didn't know Circuit City offered financing! That will be good to know since I'm buy a crapload of crap from them. The dell warranty upgrade would have been another $100, which wouldn't be bad, but I'll be at the city of circuits so I guess it's moot now.

Thanks for the info on the printer, it's good to know I'm not completely clueless about such things.

I just went out and got the papers. CC Flyer was in one. They show the laptop and offer the free printer. Printer isn't in the Flyer. Router is, it says "Free after $60 in MIRs".

The AOL $250 Instant Credit Disclaimer reads:

"12 month aol commitment required. AOL Plans Range from $14.95 to $23.90 based on plan selected."

So the spend $180 get $250 deal is on.

I was worried about this as well since it is the ONLY game I play:) I was assured that it will play it but we may need to turn down the graphics quality which is ok by me.

Another thing I just noticed in the Flyer below the Laptop it has

"WEB ID: L25S1193"

and

"Minimum 15 Per Store"

Why would they put a Web ID if it was Instore Only??

I just plugged that number into the CC website and it comes up as

Price was: $9999.99
You save: -$9550.00
You pay: $449.99

I still can't add it to my cart though. So maybe it will be online.

It should do Sims 2 just fine, a few pages back someone posted that they tried HALO on the Toshiba at BB and it ran just fine. The Toshiba at BB was only 256MB Ram. So CC Toshiba should handle the Sims 2.

On another note I messed with the code on the website to try to add the toshibe to my cart and I get "The item that you tried to add is not eligible for sale online."

More confusion...

Interesting yet funny sidenote on the 9,999 price tag. At our store, all of the black friday items ring up at that price (so no one buys them). I had 4 people come over to me and ask for those items last monday, and it was with a big grin I told them the current price :flame:

ok quick question. Thinking about paying the 20 shipping charge and buying the gateway notebook from best buy online.

I'd pay $20 to not have to wait in line for hours. I am going to CC because the Toshiba with the same specs is $200 bucks cheaper. I can get a Slim Laptop Dual Layer DVD-RW for $84.00 at newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827131418), or an external USB 2.0 for $94. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827131415) Just about any Slim drive will work when it's put in the laptops drive mounting. I don't need DVD-RW Though I have a Dell Lattitude D810 with a a DVD-RW already so. I can add one later to the Toshiba If i need it.

Can someone please explain to me what you would use a DVD burner for?

Um.. to Burn DVD's If you can't of a reason to use it, you probably don't need it.

So For ~$200 you could upgrade the CC Toshiba with a DVD-RW and 8 Cell Battery, make it better than any other BF Laptop and still be in it under $600, $420 if you don't count the AOL Cost. That's my thinking anyways.

Trust me, there is no way in hell we will run out of the free stuff. I don't know if it's just my store or not, but we have literally about a hundred of the routers that are free and probably 30-50 of the free printers. The deals at CC that might run out would be the 15 dollar 512 thumb drive, and obviusly the laptop deal.

The thing I hate is that the rebates listed don't cover the price of the items. It's about $30 extra. Plus, you're paying $199 for the comp (w/AOL) and then $150 for the router and printer out of pocket. Just seems like a bit o false advertising if you ask me.

For anyone worried about the "gift card" scenario that was presented several pages ago. the CC ad specifically states 250 instant savings for signing up with AOL so you don't have to use 250 on a future purchase. In fact there is no mention on the back of the ad at all with regards to a giftcard.. and other computers on the ad also state INSTANT savings for signing up.

ok quick question. Thinking about paying the 20 shipping charge and buying the gateway notebook from best buy online. Can someone please explain to me what you would use a DVD burner for?

Example: we take lots of video of our son, upload it to the computer, use Windows Movie Maker (or similar program) to make a little movie of him, then burn lots of DVDs to give as gifts to family.

There are lots of examples, but some of them would include illegal behavior.

Thank you! so, I might consider even doing this and just use it (I am on a tight budget right now) , but then what if it isn't available where i live? (Out in the semi-boonies - can get cable but not DSL). I could still sign up and not use it, right?

Ok - I just want to clarify for those who don't know. The $15/mo AOL broadband thing that you have to sign up for is NOT providing you broadband service. AOL only provides dial-up service. The $15/mo is a BYOB (bring your own broadband) service. So you pay for your cable or DSL service, then you pay the $15/mo in order to be able to use AOL's crappy little program (instead of using Internet Explorer or Opera, for example).

I'm not saying don't do it (as I probably am going to do it myself!), I'm just saying don't cancel your current cable or dsl service as you will need it!

Let me clarify--the 250 dollars of AOL is INSTANT savings. In fact, it can be used on anything in the store, like iPods, Televisions, etc. What happens is you sign up for AOL, then a little coupon gets printed out that the cashier scans and that is your -250 dollars right there.

That $199 Toshiba is the $449 one (Toshiba Satellite L25-S1193)... it's $449 minus the instant $250 when you sign up for AOL. Advertising it as $199 is a little sneaky. But it still seems to be one of the best deals out there.

Ok thank you! I think I understand now :) (I think LOL) Would that enable you to use their dial up is you neeed to at all? Or just use their program?

Regarding the Circuit City BF laptop and AOL, I have two questions:

1) is the $250.00 rebate definitely available for existing AOL
subscribers?
2) does the rebate come in the form of an actual rebate check or some type
of gift card that you have to use at Circuit City?

Thanks for your help.

Microcenter doesn't do tab advertising, it's a 1/2 page ad in today's Cleveland Plain Dealer, minimum 5 per store though! Also, their day after thanksgiving specials aren't on the website either.
some other tasty buys there (most are after rebate, but they are really good with the rebates!
Maxtor 100gb int. hard drive $14.99
Acer 19" LCD Monitor 189.99
50 pack cd-r discs 1.99
copy paper ream .99 (limit 10)
Winbook A210 459.00
54Mbps G router free
26" HD-Ready LCD TV 399.00

I'm in Atlanta, GA ans we have a Microcenter here, but I cannot find a ad anywhere is our paper and nowhere on there website. Can anyone give me info on tis deal, before I skip CC to go here and then they dont have any of the laptops on sale. Thanks

My son is heading to Afghanistan in February for a year. We thought we would get him a laptop to bring. (I called and checked, they can bring them).

Any of the low end ones would be fine. If they only have 256 MB RAM .. I would upgrade to 512MB ... but othe than that ... he'l be fine. Sand get in EVERYTHING there ... so don't spend tons of $$$.

Dell has notebooks on sale for 399.

Yes...they're $399...but that's with a mail in rebate. It also doesn't include $24 shipping, and $50 to upgrade to a 15 " monitor, or $39 for the 1 year warranty.

Suddenly that $399 laptop turns into $500.

Hello all fellow Black Friday Fans! I have been snooping around all this week for the best buy on a laptop. I am hoping to get some advice from others who have purchased one before. I am looking into a laptop for my daughter to use, but not go online with it. She wants it to view DVD's and play computer games on.

I am wondering if anyone here has a recommendation for a system for this type of purpose? The deals at BB and Walmart are incredible, but getting one of those in hand in my area will be almost impossible.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions that you may have!

Happy Turkey Day!

You can buy it without AOL, but it'll cost you $450. What you can do is get AOL for a year and the comp for $200, then sign up for the $15 a month AOL for broadband - then the total is $380.

I was able to get to the point of confirming my order online for the $379 lappy at BB.

Go to all notebooks. Find the $379 one. Click on "protect your investment". Select the 2 year plan. This puts you on a shopping card, ready to checkout with the $379 laptop, and the warranty. Remove the warranty, you're left with just the laptop, with a $19.99 shipping/handling charge.

Sorry DMA, it's not on Microcenters website, it was in our local paper. As to another post about Atlanta, all I can say about the ad is it says 5 PER store, and there's only 1 store in Cleveland, so I don't know to assume if it's an ad for all the stores or not....pretty much a crapshoot if it isn't in your paper.

Hi,
Most of the stores I know (BB, CC) will give out coupons(more like a piece of paper) to people standing in-line before they open the door, and after they open you probably will have to go to a counter of some sort to pickup the laptop.

They won't have them just laying around.

I have never been to BB for BF sales. If I need a laptop and two DVD players will I have to get more than one coupon? How do these things work? My husband thinks I should wait until Feb. for a better laptop deal so I thought I would give this a try and not get stressed if I don't get one but I don't want to waste 2-3 hours standing in a line for nothing.

I went ahead and ordered it. If I get it--great. I'm still going to go to Wally World because the wife wants some things there anyway. If I can get their cheap lappy, this one's going on ebay.

Otherwise, I'm going to throw a royal fit to Best Buy Customer Service if their site allowed me to order (and charged my card) for something that I couldn't order.

Order Confirmation
November 24, 2005
Order Number: [removed for my protection]

Dear [removal of my identity]:

Thank you for shopping at BestBuy.com. We have received your order, and it will be processed as soon as possible.

Shipping
We will send you an e-mail that includes the shipping date of your item(s) once the tracking information is updated in our shipping partner's system. Your credit card will not be charged until we ship the item(s) to you.

I don't know how the check card system works. I didn't have enough cash in my bank account to use my debit card to attempt to get it immediately deducted. Further, I am using my mothers MasterCard, so I can't check the balance online either. I bet they will "reserve their right to cancel any order". Again, I don't know how the check card system works.

With my bank and debit card, many times have I seen a different amount between my balance and money available. I can only speculate as to what this really means. Perhaps that they money isn't _yet_ debited but the company is in the process of doing so. Thus they are checking to see if the funds are available and than making the bank know that they will debit your account $x.xx in a short time.

The reason I didn't do an "in store pickup" is because I have a feeling that wouldn't go through. Either way I will attemp to get the Circuit City Laptop tomorrow. If I can get em than Ill just cancel my BB order anyway. Not taking the chance but having a hopeful backup feels better.

Just curious. I'm going to Wally, but I thought long and hard about the Staples laptop, because the Celeron Ms now slightly out perform the Semprons, and the Staples laptop has a larger battery cell.

The deal breaker for me is that the Sempron is quite a bit less of a gas guzzler, and the video card is better (ATi vs Intel). Also, I have the employees discount card from a friend.

Had the pricing stayed $400 vs $450, I'd have gone to Staples.

yes....do that...and remove it before completing the purchase.

Something tells me that we are all going to get an email tomorrow that says the order will not happen. Does anyone know where it says in their legal stuff that they can cancel the orders?

Ironic that your post is 1192... same as the Toshiba model you purchased.

That's a lot of posts!

Sigh.... Circuit City's online website won't let you purchase the Toshiba laptop through the web. And someone posted that there are already 30 people at their local store (wherever it is).... so looks like I'm SOL on this. What the hell, I'll head out to check the line and see what's up....

I just completed the online purchase after finding that the lines were already excessively long at Best Buy, Circuit City, and three Wal-Marts that I hit starting at 1 AM. I really, really hope that Best Buy will honor this deal or at least provide some kind of compensation if they do not.

yahoo! got my laptop from WalMart. first in line. they only had 14, but the line was at least 40-50 deep. even after they marked the first 14 with marks on our hands and told the remaining people they only had 14, everyone stayed. not only that, but more people came and stayed in line. it was a little strange. there were also a ton of shady people trying to get to the front. the whole experience was cool and i met some really nice people, but after my purchase getting out of the store was insane. i was almost run over a dozen times.

anyway, good luck to all out there. time for sleep.

Hi, new at posting, but I've been haunting this website for several weeks.

Anyway, I think you're right. In addition to the laptop, I just ordered the Kodak 5 Mg digital camera, even though it stated that it was "out of stock", to see what would happen. It still processed my order and sent me the confirmation email. Obviously the website isn't designed to "catch" errors like that, so I will be totally shocked if either of these orders go through. I'll keep my fingers crossed, but I think that once a human being actually looks at these orders, we will all be receiving that email you are referring to.
(Well, after he gets done laughing at our belief that we can buy these things without going through the work of standing in line for hours and hours.)

QUICK IMPORTANT WALMART NOTE:
(sorry for the yelling)
Hubby said that they dropped the price at the last minuite from $389 (Here is Greensboro, NC) to the $378 price; so he got the laptop AND the $10 bag for a total of $415 and change. Thought this might be valuable info to remeber for next time;seems they had to match their other stores price or it is some kind of sales incentive/trick.

Did everybody that ordered the Toshiba laptop, from Best Buy, get an e-mail thanking you for your order and suggesting accessories for your laptop. This makes me think they are going to honor the orders. I sure hope they do anyway but it could be an automatic email that issues when you order any laptop.

Mission accomplished at BB. We got there at midnight, were 17th in line and got the 12th unit out of 15 standard configurations they had. They had 15 more units that they installed their "security pack" on for $479 and alot of people weren't happy, but it was within the minimum they had guaranteed stock in. Check out was a bear, almost 2 hours, but got a lappy, a desktop, 20" stereo tv and 4 DVDs for less than $700! I bought a BB rewards card for $9.99 and got $31 back on my purchase!!!!! It amazed me the people trying to jump in line outside the store for the buy sheets for products, there were some upset people behind us, and can't blame them. And the amount of people who walked into the store an hour after they opened and got upset they didn't have the good deal laptops or desktops.

Got the Toshiba from MicroCenter in Cleveland. Same as the CC one minus 256megs of RAM I think. Got there @ Midnight, noone around (except for the dozen or so at the CC in the other end of the plaza). Sat in my car until 2, then got in line (FIRST!) when others started showing up. Some stuff went FAST (512 thunb drives - $15AR, Power Strips - .69, Nice looking camera bags - 3.99), but still ended up with the laptop, 7" portable DVD player, USB wireless adapter, Epson all-in-one, and a cordless rechargable mouse for $450AR including tax! Was tempted to get the desktop they had ($200AR - including another epson all-in-one), but decided against it.

I'm sitting here typing on my new HP Pavillion from Walmart. I got there about 10pm. I went in, looked around, didn't see any. The store closed at 1, so I waited in the car. Then, a couple got chairs out and sat down outside the door. I joined them, and found out she was a Walmart employee, had to be at work at 4...but was only waiting around to be with her hubby, who was after a Powerwheels for $80.

After awhile, she made a phone call inside to a friend and found out exactly where the pallet of laptops were. At 5 when the door opened, I made a flat out sprint for the laptops. I was the first in line, and got to them first. Within 30 seconds, all 40 were snapped up.

So, what kind of memory do I want for this thing? Just pc2700 ddr?

Just Got back from CC.

I got there at 10PM was 19th in line.

Pretty cool crowd, No trouble really. Had a few people try to cut the front of the line but, it turns out there were CC employees in street clothes starting around 1AM, they walked the line talked to people. Turns out they were scoping the line to see who was there and when 3:30 rolled around all of a sudden they were in CC Shirts and started giving people the bums rush to the back of the line. There were also a few weirdos caseing the line like they were checking everyone out.

The people that got there after 1AM were bummed because by then there were 125 people in line. There was 350 or something by the time the store opened. The people that showed at 4AM or later were visually stunned.

THE CC Employees did a really good job on making sure new arrivals got to the back of the line and handing out vouchers.

When they handed out the vouchers for the Toshiba laptop for $199, (Not the $299 w/ Antivirus. there were 28 of those.) The CC Guy handed me Voucher 19 of 19!!!

PHEW!!!

The Nightmare begins after the store opened.

Store opened at 5AM I was in Laptop Line at 5:04 7th in line.

The whole AOL Process was a Nightmare, First the system Crashed. so we had to wait. Then the system was up and I got setup with AOL, but something got screwed up. After they sent me to the "Done with AOL, Waiting for the Laptop Line." They handed out Blank pieces of paper and we had to fill out our AOL Account Info and give CCard info again so they could "Call it in" and get some . But they did thet with everyone in line and all of a sudden there were peopel from the back of the line getting called up first. People were pissed. Before a riot broke out they put the line back in order and started calling people in turn. I had to wait MORE because they didn't know what CCard I gave them, DUH! first four numbers.

Mean While the weirdos scoping the outside hung around the Cashier where you turned in your vouchers like vultures. One lady was walking the line saying "If anyone wants to give up the Voucher for the $199 Laptop I'll take it." On her third pass everyone finally told her to STFU!.

I Finally got my laptop in hand and was out of the store at 8:16am EST... Three Hours and Nine minutes to pay for a laptop that I had a voucher for. As I was leaving some lady walked up to the Cashier and pointed at all the laptops behind and said "Is that the $199 Laptop? Could you give me two of those?" the people in line just started laughing and told here she was wayy too late.

I feel bad for the CC employees they did a pretty good job and were taking a beat down from all the angry people having to wait because of the SAOL Screwups.

When everyone signed up for AOL they were put on the $23.90 Plan. We were told that if they tried to put us on the $14.95 plan it would crash the system, they told we would have to call AOL and have our service downgraded to the $14.95 Plan. Everyone in line was suspicious, that maybe they figured out they were losing money on the $14.95 Plan.

Anyone else run into the same problem?? Hope it won't be a hassle, I saved my sale flyer where it states the $14.95 plan was included.

Second in line at Walmart at 11:30 pm, but had my bases covered (I thought) just in case for some reason we could not get the HP. My sister went to CC in Waco, Texas at MN, already 30 people in line. Still, she hung in there thinking that they may not all be there for the lappy. After five hours of standing in line, some ugly scenes, etc., CC handed out only THREE vouchers, she said!! When Walmart opened the doors, I raced to electronics where they handed out vouchers for the 30 laptops they had. I was #6, daughter was #7, Yoohoo!! Met some really nice people, and had a great time.

I got to Best Buy at 1 AM but he line was way, way too long so I just came home. I read this thread an ordered the Toshiba. They system locked up during the final step and when I tried to refresh, there was no indication of an order, nor any email. I started the steps to order again and then went to bed for a few hours before heading back out to the Andrews AFB early bird debacle. When I got back, I had TWO confirmation emails for TWO orders as well as the obligatory "recommended laptop accessories" email. Sure hope they show up and sure hope that they sell well on ebay!

I was about 25th in line at BB (got there around 2am). I just missed getting the Toshiba. I'm disappointed, but glad to see that BB handed out vouchers so the people who really earned them by standing in the cold received them. It's amazing how many losers show up at 5am, lurk around the entrance and then rush into the store, cutting in line and pushing ahead of folks who have waited for 10+ hours. BB and others need to address this, because we almost had a riot on our hands today.

First a Thank You to Rossman for the sage advice on the Circut City offer.

This is what went on at the stores as related to me.

My wife and sister-in-law went and got on line at CC around 11pm. They were first in line. At 4AM they handed out vouchers for all the hot items that were in limited supply. Some people in front of the line took vouchers for items they didn't want and then resold them for 50 bucks down the line. She said at least they asked each person down the line in order, instead of highest bidder.

My sister went to Walmart at 4AM. She wasn't there for laptop or other main items, so she went late. Long lines and chaos was the best way to describe the situation there. At 5AM a few people took shopping carts and said they were just looking in the windows, but as they opened the doors these people pushed the carts in the way and jumped the line. Many people ran directly to the computer area and mobbed the lone salesperson there and demanded a computer ahead of the line jumpers. Fights broke out and the salesman was also hit. Some customers jumped the register area and took the computers to other registers for purchase. Security was called but was too little too late.

I'm glad we opted for CC. The lines there were smaller and it was far less dangerous.

BTW- We got the 2 Laptops also.

Got a Refurb from dell with 256MB, Celeron 1.4, 40GB HD for $402 shipped including tax! So I'm not feeling so bad...

If you haven't checked out Dell Outlet - it now lets you select from: Refurb, Unused (returns, cancels), and scratch and dent. It will tell you which category a given machine came from too. This is helpful for gifts like this - a refurb, or unused was ok to me. A scratch and dent wasn't.

I'm so sad to hear so many poor experiences from Walmart...

The Walmart here in Tuscaloosa, AL did a fantastic job! About 15 of us were waiting since midnight-2:00am and at about 3:30 the electronics department decided that in order to protect those of us who had been waiting they were going to make a list and check ID's. This of course ticked off the people who got there later than 4am, but they didn't even roll the laptops out on the floor. They brought all of us on the list into the layaway department and pulled them straight from the stock room to layaway and opened a register for us to pay.

No fights, no hassles. One kid was attempting to pretend he was e of the people they called from the list, but other than that no problems. And he was informed they would be checking ID's against the list, and then he mysteriously disappeared. :)

Also found out from checking the startup software that the laptops have Lightscribe drives.. Bonus! :)

Thank god I have a girlfriend that is devoted and stayed in line for 2.5 hrs for me. I had a similar experience with walmart in dayton, ohio. we were in line at about 2:50 9th and 10th in line, at about 5 till 5:00am a employee came out and told everyone there were only 14 laptops so please no pushing and shoving( yeah right) when the doors finally opened we found ourselves fighting to keep position so many people were just coming from the parking lot out of slowing cars to rush in, needless to say on the way in my friend got violently shoved to ground I kept going at her request I made it over to the laptops where the employee was just handing them out randomly...I looked over and my friend had made it up there...the laptops were going very quickly we thought all hope was gone...when from out of nowhere came a guy that had stood in front of me for a good 2 hours for his wife, his wife stood the last hour with us...he came out of the door and took control turned out he was a manager there (thank goodness) knowing who stood in line with him for hours he gave us 2 of the last few they had. Still very scary will not do that next year....I mean it this time...LOL:)

My girlfriend and I went to cc at 10 pm and were the first people there. By midnight there were thirty people there and every one wanted a laptop. Four kids showed up and the guy in the fourth spot said he would sell them one spot in line for a hundred bucks! The kid took it! I couldn't believe it, the guy said "well I'm off to bed, and a hundred dollars richer!" We sat there until they brought out the tickets. The sales person inside told me that the AOL would be the 21.95 plan so I didn't do it, I don't need AOL anyway. Now I hear that I could have changed it later and saved a couple of bucks, but oh well I'm happy. First BF camp out was a success, met some cool people and had a blast! Wow. That would have been cool. I was first in line (second...but next to the guy who was first). It bothered me to see losers show up at 4:30 and crowd in the side. I had been there since before midnight, and only started camping out front when the store closed at 1.

After my experience atAnn Arbor, Mi area WalMart, I don't know if I will ever go there again.
I cruised the parking lot at about 11pm and nobody was there. I thought I would hit CompUSA. Bad idea. 300+ were in line there. So, I headed back to WallyWorld. As I am parking, 4 students show up. They run and get in line. The next thing I know, 5 of their friends roll up and get in line. The security guard on duty says there is nothing he can do about it.

As the witching hour came closer, the line got longer and longer. About 4:30, manager comes out and hands out maps of the store, showing where everything is going to be. About 5 minutes till, the security guard shows up at the front blocking one of the doors saying, "Nobody comes in this side, Nobody touches me, I will sue you." I just laughed to myself. At 5am they opened both sets of doors. Oh my God! The guard wound up on his stomach between the inner and outer doors, people were knocked down and the outer door was ripped off it's hinges. What a cluster. Everyone runs to said location and nothing. The next thing I know a saleswoman in Electronics yells she has pick tickets. The crowd mobbed her, grabbing at tickets, pushing her, knocking over displays. It was pandamonium. This mini crowd chased her around the womans apparel dept to no avail. Finally, a store manager (about 6'3" and 220) demands everyone get in a line. I looked at him and told him, "Remeber me, I was 8th in line." The next thing I know he says the line starts here and handed me a ticket. I couldn't believe it.

So, all in all, I was very happy, but also, very disenchanted by behavior of so-called human beings.

Just thought I would share my experience.

Got to BB at 12am and got everything I wanted. I was 15th in line and got laptop #9 of 12. Saw vouchers being sold, (Laptop vouchers went for 40.00) and everyone was pretty relaxed. Had a guy that drove his motorhome there and parked right up front and played movies for us to watch. The camp out was prob the better part of my night. Spent more time inside the store then I did outside. I ended up getting the tosh notebook, case & essentials pack, DVD-r disks, Kodak 360 (#4 of 30), 7 in port DVD player, Dlink wireless router, 1 GB PNY flash, several games & some DVDs. All that said my wife locked us out of the car. (Thank God for roadside assistance) We still had a little time ti go to a few other stores for some non-doorbuster items too. All in all not a bad night for my 1st time. However it'll take quite the deal to get me to brave the 8 degree temps next year! Hope everyone faired ok and stayed safe.

I got to BEST BUY in MD at 11:30 pm and I was 20th in line and I didnt get the 379.99 lap top I had to settle for the GATEWAY for 579.99 ....... The most unorganized Event I have ever experienced..... I see Y I quit workin for that company

CC on Rte 40 in Catonsville, MD wasn't any better, I was the the first one in the parking lot at 9:00 p.m. Thursday evening, the 4th person in line, the 4th person to get my voucher, the 4th person to be brought inside to sign up for AOL @ 4:15 a.m. (which they messed up, signing me up for for the $23.90 plan instead of the $14.95 plan and wouldn't fix...so now I have to call AOL and deal with it myself), only to be sent back outside and re-enter the store at 5:00 a.m. to get into a ridicullous "computer voucher only" line with only one cashier who took at least 15-20 minutes to ring everyone up. I was then taken out of the line by a sales person who promised to correct the AOL error, and led me all around the store only to tell me he could't fix it and I have to call AOL and fix it myself and bring me back to the line, in which then I was last and told they couldn't guarantee they had anymore laptops left, even though I had a voucher, because some vouchers had been stolen and some worker's friends came in and were given laptops without vouchers. By this time it was 6:30 a.m. and I didn't make it to the cashier until 8:30 a.m. I told them, it was really ashame that I was the first one in the parking lot to get a laptop, etc... but the last one in store 4 hrs and 15 minutes after the fact. I DON'T CARE IF THEY SELL THEM FOR $50 NEXT YEAR I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THAT CC! One of the first things I will be doing on my laptop is writing complaint letters!

My sister, Daisimae in Massachusetts, didn't get into her CC until 5 a.m. she got her laptop, left and went to Staples, Target and was back at her home, in half the time it took me to be led on a "wild goose chase" throughout the store and be brought back to the line. I told her, if I ever tell her again that I'm too tired to drive to MA and go shopping with her she is to tell me to get into my car and head north, no ands, ifs or buts.

Pounding this out was really good therapy, thanks for reading! :)

I got to my CC at around 3:40, and the line was already wrapping around the side of the store. Someone brought a bon-fire esq contraption. It looked like a trash can but had prongs that seemed to keep floating debree from the fire in side. Weird...but it kept them warm throughout the night (I can only assume they were there the entire time). Around 4:00 an ambulance and a fire truck were seen headed towards the BB that was across the street. I didn't find out till later that people stayed over from 8:00pm the previous day. I can only assume that they were unprepared for the cold temperatures last night.

30 minutes later I am about the 40th person in line when they say they didn't have any more laptops left. No big deal, I didn't expect to get one anyway. I just had to try because if I didnt' go, i would have never known. So i hop in my car and head across the street to Office Depot (BB, CC, and OD all in the same 200 yard proximity). Upon arriving at 4:30 there were 2 other cars than mine in the parking lot. We all sat there looking at each other for 5 minutes before someone decided they would be first in line and walked up. I followed and since they were a party of 3 I was fourth in line. Waited until 5:45 (OF opened at 6) before they come out and told us they have "exactly 0 (zero) laptops and desktops in store." WHAT !? "They are all made to order so if you take this form [hands out form for desktop/laptop deal] you are guaranteed to get one so long as you fill it out online or at the store by tomorrow." So I waited at OD for nothing? Eh I dont think so. The laptop was after upgrades basically the same as the Toshiba at CC. The only difference's were that you didn't get the 60gig instead of the 40gig. And the screen was a 14" wide screen instead of a 15" normal. Both I believe are TrueBrite screens although the Presario didn't mention this in the add. However, I went to BB and they had the exact same model except with wireless preinstalled, and that Presario was a truebright.

The total came to $510 after rebates. I have to send those in but I usually get my rebates as listed. So for only $60 more and 20gigs less, I didn't have to spend 8+ hours waiting in freezing temperatures. Fine by me. I won't use the entire 40 gigs so I nullify that. And the $60 seems like a good price to pay for the certainty of obtaining a laptop, where as others at CC weren't so lucky even when they were there the night before.

My brother, a friend and I waited in line at the CC in Roseville Michigan (suburb of Detroit) starting at 11:45 pm. When we arrived we were about 15th in line, by 4:00 am we mysteriously were 25th. The temperature was between 10F and 15F with a wind chill that put the temperature a 0F.

At 3:30 a vending truck arrived and handed out free coffee and donuts compliments of Comcast Cable.

At 4:00am store employees began to hand out the vouchers for big ticket items. 14 laptop vouchers were distributed, prompting the 15 person in line to lose his mind. He berated the store employee and called him virtually every name in the book. I felt sorry for the clerk, but CC in their flyers claimed to have minimum of 15 per store.

Many of the first 14 customers weren't in line for any more than one hour. Their buddies had held them a spot in line. The first 4 guys were in line at 6:00 pm. Needless to say, we didn't get a laptop, but did do a bit of shopping at other stores.

I probably won't partake in another Black Friday...

After reading all the previous posts I seem to have been lucky and got one of the laptops at Circuit City and a very decent shopping experience.

I arrived at my local CC at 11:15 PM and see a line up already camped out. I asked how many were there for the laptop and almost all put their hands up. I quite some quick addition and guessed I would luck in and get one of the laptops at 5:00 AM. I set up my chair and got ready to camp out. As the night/morning pressed on the core group of us talked quite a bit and got to know each other. By 2:30 the line now include over 100 people and some of the later customers looked like they might try something underhanded. A group of us near the front of the line made sure nobody acted untoward and enforced a "no idiot" policy. At 4:00AM the CC Asst Mgr came out and explained the voucher & AOL policy.

I got voucher # 11 of 15 for the laptop (including bundled printer & router). At 5:00AM the doors opened and we all streamed inside making sure nobody behind us pushed ahead. It was pleasant seeing the "no idiot" policy being enforced throughout the morning.

Once inside it got a bit harried but that was to be expected seeing as the line outside was almost a 1/4 mile long. I picked up a few other items on my list but missed the 512MB SD card by milliseconds! Oh well I had my laptop ;-) I did the AOL for Broadband sign-up for $14.95 and waited in line to pay for my items. I waited about 35 minutes in line and was out by 6:15AM.

Overall a pretty good experience for my first BF camp-out. The initial group in line were very decent people and the staff at CC did their utmost to ensure BF went well.

I stopped by that CC after lunch and thanked the Mgr & Asst Mgr on a job well done.

Time to mail in the rebates. :-)

I wasn't able to get the cc laptop on sale because I was thirty in line at 12:30 a.m. of only 15 vouchers for the laptop. :( I was able though to get the acer laptop for toshiba and was wondering does anyone know what type of memory to install on this computer or point me out to a website that has this memory. Thanks.

i think this is a circuit city goof, not yours, the store here had about 10 stocked on one hanger in store, but later found out they had a few hundred in storage but did not have a display for them, I am thinking something similar might have happened at your store. most of the non voucher items they should have had more than 100 to go around.

Is the laptop computer that Dell is offering for $399 after rebate a good deal? It states you will also will get a free printer. Has anybody ordered one?

that is a very basic system...i ordered it but by the time i did upgrades etc and w/ shipping and taxes it came out to 687 but will get 100$ rebate
i am sooooo not thrilled and i did camp out all night at CC i got there at 114 am and was 16 in line....madder than hell i called wed and was told that they had recieved 27 they had 15 vouchers. really irritated there was a couple of dads w/ young (under 10) kids who each got 2 vouchers and they allowed one of them to pay for 2 puters at same time on one credit card....i complained to store mgr about both being told there were 27 wed and about the guy buying 2 and he said that the latter shouldnt have happened but was too late and that they did recieve 27 but their employees got first pick and they had to reserve only 15 for the sale.
considering they are the only cc for 100 miles i really thought they should have had more and was disgusted w/ the way some acted....really cracked up at 400 when guys came out w/ vouchers 2 guys came up out of their cars and tried to get inline and were like weve been waiting but its cold out here....yep it is cold out here but we have alll been waiting in this line and you shouldnt be allowed to jump in here....
doubt i will ever do this again....ive done bf before and always had a pleasant experience but this was b/s....i did still wind up w/ a laptop not to be delivered till dec 12 but guess i will survive till then...lol

I got shut out at my local Best Buy and Wal-Marts (long, long lines) and also had my $375 Toshiba Notebook online order cancelled by bestbuy.com but there is a happy ending to this story. For those of you with military ties that can order from AAFES.com, they have special deals with Dell, however, the price goes up and down like stock prices. As of this morning, the Dell Inspiron 2200 is currently sellin for $489 with a free printer. This time they have also added a $100 rebate which beats any Black Friday deal when the printer, no sales tax, and no shipping costs are thrown in. By the way, if you are really hooked on AOL, 6 free months of service are included. Way to go AAFES! :rwb:
