whats a good card for someone with little to no credit. i had a secured card for a year but canceled it after they said they couldn't give me an unsecured card after a year of never carrying a balance. i also have a bestbuy card but have only had it for like 6 months or so. also have a fairly low income (i work retail) and not currently in school so that excludes alot of cards as far as i know.

It's odd that you were declined after having a secured cc AND BB cc.

Which cc's have you applied for?

What were the exact reasons for decline as stated in the decline letter?

Did you request your free credit report?

Do you know what your credit score (http://www.gottadeal.com/click.php?id=2679) is?

i did know my credit score back when all that happend like a year ago but i completely forgot. the secured CC was thru wells fargo, went with them because they had the lowest starting amount ($300) and the lowest fees at the time. i tried getting the non-secured card theu them as well for no real reason and they gave me no reason for the decline. the bestbuy card is farily recent 6 months or so, haven't bothered to try for any others since i don't need one but i'm in the mood to improve my credit ago so i'm looking into it.

How many months did you have the secured cc and is it still open?

I don't understand why everyone has this mentality that good credit happens overnight, it does not.

IMHO it takes at least 14 months to establish something simply because credit bureau's are usually 2 months behind in reporting credit activity. Hence 12 months + 2 months = 14 months.

You could apply for an easy credit card, such as Capital One (http://www.capitalone.com/credit101/making/). It's important to remember to use the credit card, make payments on time even if you can only afford the monthly minimum and use it for at least 18 months before you apply for a better cc with perks.

i had the card for a year, when i signed up they said i would qualify for a unsecured card in 6 months. after 6 months they said no, 12 months they said no. after they i canceld it. i used it daily for all the small stuff i buy and had it paid in full every month. i'll check out the capitol one card. i'm not as worried about the perks as i am about raising my credit score since i'll be looking into a new car in a couple years and after that maybe a house.

If you intend on buying a car or house in a few years, it's a good idea to strengthen your credit.

bockchow, it's been about 3 weeks since you posted this.

Have you applied for a credit card yet? If yes, which one?

not yet with my roomate moveing out a couple months ahead of what i had planned i've been scrambleing to get everything that was hers replaced. i decided on a capitolone card but haven't gotten around to sitting down and doing it. i wanted to find one of those free credit report things first and check where i'm at. was also going to get an amazon since i had planned a large order there but had a change of plans since i can get everything cheaper at Fred Meyers thru my ex-roomate.
