For those of you in the New York area, GreenPoint bank offers free interest checking to those who have direct deposit. Not only that, they will give you a free gift when you sign up. (I got a nifty Nautica golf umbrella.)
The bank is undergoing a merger with Northfolk Bank to provide a larger banking network. Another nifty thing they have is something called DebitPerks. For $20 a year you earn points on all of your debit card purchases.
Now I don't have to worry about that decision whether or not to use my Amex card.
They will also buy unused checks at $1.50 per pad up to $10.
