Okay, ya'll i need help, i am a little confused. My DH and i purchased a new car in NM in Aug 09. The dealer agreed to include tax, title and registration (TTR) on the vehicle in the price of the car. They paid transport fees as well. (I live in central texas.) When the agreement was written up it showed a charge for TTR. I questioned this and the saleman said they have to show it was charged because it was government money that has paid to the gov. Okay, i understood that. Now here it is one month later and my DH and i received a check from the dealer for the exact amount of the cost of the tax and registration and and additional $ to cover titling in the state of tx. The check was for almost $3000. My husband says we shouldnt deposit the check. He thinks it was issued erraneously. Has anyone had this happened to them or is my hubby right??????

Call the dealer. Usually when we negotiate, we also have them include tax, title and license in with the price, and when you look at your contract, they should have reduced the cost of the car.

Check your contract first though.

Might want to check and see if the TTR were actually done in your state. I would bet not. That seems to be a problem for some dealers/states when working with people living in one state and buying in another. We ran into the problem buying from FL and living in GA.

Weird thing is I went and got a tag for the car and we ask the clerk about it. She said she could not charge us for TTR because our bill of sale showed the TTR was paid to Texas by the dealership. She just charged me for the tags for the car. Oh well, i'll deposit the check in a savings account we don't use and wait for the verdict!!!!!

Update. I checked w/ the dmv and sure enough the dealership paid TTR on the car. I will just consider the check an unexpected blessing. :yup:

Aren't you paying interest on this because you bought a car?I am assuming you didn't pay cash for the car I would be taking this money and putting it back into the the loan if you paid with a loan for the car

Yep, but I am using it as a write off for business transportation.

I would still hold on to the money for a while the dealer might catch the mistake and want their money back.
