Does anyone know or can predict the must have toys (or non toy item) this holiday season? Usually there is the one or two must have items. Also what about non toy items? Will there be a new item put out by a company this fall?

hmm. not a specific toy - but I think Ni Hai Kailan is going to take off like a rocket for toddler toys. (noggin/nickolodeon).

i also think that for tweens a big thing might be Wizards of Waverly place merch

We were in Target today and my DS soon to be 2 went crazy when he saw the Ni Hai Kailan stuff (NI Hai he likes to call it).

My DD6 iS already asking for Wizards stuff; Target had some pens and little notebooks in the $1 Spot and we got a few of those.

I also think that if nickolodeon came out with a Yo Gabba Gabba Toy - like dj lance's boombox - that it would be a real hot item. but that's just me. ;)

I think the DSI will be hot this Christmas. As for other toys there has been some speculation that Transformers will once again be a hot item.

The DSi does have its down falls though I just found out wont play any guitar hero games ans not backward compatiable with GBA

My kids traded in their DS lites and their GBA games to get
the DS lites; it didn't bother them at all. My DD6 loves the camera
and being able to record music on it.

I can see no backward compatibility would bother some though.

There is a new WII game coming out called Sports Resort. It has an extra wii motion plus attachmnet for the wii remote control. You can preorder on Amazon for $46.99. That price includes the game and will motion plus controller. This may be one of the hot new games coming out.

In our house the "hot toy" will be the Toy Story Buzz and Woody dolls.
My boys LOVE them and the ones they have now are in VERY bad shape(Woody has no head and Buzz has no legs but they still tote them around:no:)
I will be very happy to replace them with new ones!

I will definitely be scopping up any and all the New Moon merchandise that I can, last year on BF at Kmart I got the Edward poster from Twilight :D it was only $3.99 too, a lot better than the $7 or more at most other places.

Hey first post here, I have been a long time creeper of these sites and finally decided to join.

The New Super Mario Bro for the WII WILL be the game to have this Christmas. It is scheduled to come out in mid November and the gamestop I reserved my game at, has already stopped takin pre orders on it.

This game will be super hard to get a hold of before Christmas, if you want to make sure you get it I would reserve it...

I saw a ton of Toy Story toys @ Target. I had never seen them before, so they may be new. They had a whole Toy Story section. There were Buzz gloves that you can put on and of course, they make noise! Bunch of others but didn't look too close.

The Leapfrog Zippity looks cool. I had not seen that before now.
Not sure what will be hot this year, but I will not be buying many toys. I am thinking new TV's this year for the kids bedrooms. I am sick of buying all of the toys and they play with none of them.

Hot Topic already has a new moon t-shirt and poster.

I am waiting for Walmart to come out with New Moon merch, they had a bunch of keychains, buttons, necklaces, and magnets when Twilight was released and they were all only $5 each, which is awesome compared to most other places selling Twilight merch.

Since I think in terms of video games (blatant Nintendoholic)..... :tongue1:

The new PS3 Slim ($299 for 120GB) and PSP Go will be hot items. Sony is finally dropping prices on the PS3s to match the XBox 360. Nintendo may have to push the Wii down to $199 (even though they say they won't).

Regarding Wii Sports Resort... have had it a few weeks now and haven't tried all the sports yet. But some people might feel the island flyover is a bit lame (control layout). Huge improvement in the bowling game over the original Wii Sports. The Motion Plus attachment made the ball physics more realistic. Powerboarding is interesting but I don't like the control setup (requires constant twisting of the wrist which, IMO, can lead to a strain), but the game physics here are excellent. Frisbee's cool.... basketball's meh.

I'm looking toward New SMB Wii though. It's the DS version on steroids, with multi-player with co-op modes.

Just happened to be in our Walmart (Conover, NC) this past Friday night, the stock clerk had just put them on the shelf and my dd10 saw him. He put one box (maybe 24 pets) on the shelf and half was sold in approx. 10 minutes. While my dd was deciding which color to get. And no one knew they were there imagine if people were waiting and knew they were going to put them out. Only had 3 of the accessories to stock. Zue Zue pet was $8.00 and pet accessories were $15.00. This will be THE HOT ITEM this year!

The new iPod Nano's with the cameras integrated will be H O T. Mark my words! :flame::jump3: I also think Guitar Hero 5 will be good, but I have a feeling that there will be more "software-only" sales rather than full sets because of the number of people that already have the World Tour setup.. which is completely compatible. Lastly, I think these pet things everyone is talking about. lol. I don't have a clue what they do... but they seem like everyone wants one.

Oh my gosh..........this is all my 3 year old talks about, and we have the regular Geotrax.

I bought some at the TRU sale this week. The only thing they had was the remote controls, and a big pack. It came with 1 remote, 2 buildings, push cars, and road. I ended up and bought that..........as I know Walmart doesnt sell Geotrax anymore, and our Kmart is pretty limited, leaving only Target. Then when I got home and added up how much it would be seperately.........I was glad I purchased the big pack.

I'm also planning to pick up the big pack from TRU for my 3 year old. I'm so bummed I missed the big sale, do you know if TRU does a Geo sale before (big toy book?) or on BF? I have 3 Geotrax lovers, so I'm hoping to also get the new Timbertown Railway for my 5 year old, and a couple smaller sets and an RC train or two for my 2 year old.

TRU also has a new holiday RC train with Santa.

I went not planning on getting the big pack. However, the only thing they had in the "Cars Geotrax" was the big pack and the remote controls. So I knew what the price of the bldgs, and the remotes were, and I added it up and it was a NO BRAINER to get the big pack. So then I bought an extra controller and got one free. It worked out well as now we have all 3 remotes.

I have a ton of bldgs in my closet that I have found on sale that I could have given him that goes with his regular geotrax, but that isnt what he wanted. LOL So they will sit for a bit longer. Oh yes........I did see the special CHristmas train..........I might have to get too.

I may be wrong but I think other hot toys are going to be anything of the new Disney princess. The Princess and the Frog, princess Tiana. I lucked up and found a doll at Toys R Us last week and bought for my DD birthday. My neighbor went back to get one and they were sold out. She called her mom in DC and asked her to get one and they were sold out too. The movie comes out in theaters mid December, so I imagine this will be very popular right before Christmas.

IF you go here:
http://http://bventertainment.go.com/tv/buenavista/regisandkelly/special/toyawards/index.html (http://bventertainment.go.com/tv/buenavista/regisandkelly/special/toyawards/index.html)

you'll see the top 10 from the list of the top 30 of 2009 that FAMILY FUN Magazine selected out of the 375 they tested and you have to buy their magazine to get the other 20.

I however, did not even find the top 10 interesting....so I am not sure that the last 20 would even be any better.

I hate those lists. I don't know who compiles the lists or tests the toys, but I never find anything fun in the top ten. So, here's my top ten fun toys that you can buy now...

1. A computer The most fun toy you can own is a computer. There are so many fun games and activities that, no matter what toys your kids get over the years, they will always love the computer most. Computers are not very expensive these days and even the least expensive are very good.

2. A video game console These are coming down in price. They are all amazing. The WII is probably best for young kids since there is a lot of action and the whole family can join in the fun. The PS3 is great for older kids and is also a blu-ray disc player if you are in the market for one of those. XBOX is also good for older kids. Whatever their friends are playing with will be the most fun. If you are on a budget, last gen consoles are still fun and less expensive -- especially the games.

3. Snap Circuits (http://www.acsupplyco.com/elenco1/htm_files/snapcircuits.htm) If you ever had one of those spring electronics projects kids from Radio Shack, this is a lot like those. Difference is that some of the components are very sophistocated and assembly is much easier -- less assembly means more play time.

4. Legos I don't think Legos need any introduction. Just a reminder that they are still around. Try to get one of the sets that has a lot of standard pieces so the kids can build something not pictured on the box. Tinker toys and lincoln logs are still around too.

5. Johnny Lightning Indy 500 (http://cgi.ebay.com/Johnny-Lightning-New-500-Indy-Race-Track-Topper_W0QQitemZ290356102470QQcmdZViewItemQQptZDiecast_Vehicles?hash=item439a928 546&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14) This is the best race track ever produced. You need to watch ebay, but there are lots of new sets in warehouses. The original came out in the seventies then somebody resurrected the franchise in the nineties. I had the original when I was a kid and bought the reproduction for my kids. What makes this fun is that you use a handle to pull the cars through a segment of the track and their momentum sends them around the track so you can catch and launch again. Your pets will love it too ;)

6. Magnetic Sticks (http://www.amazon.com/Mega-Magz-Magnetic-Construction-M1697/dp/B0006IRRYI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1254602022&sr=1-1) I first played with these in a museum. Magnetic balls and sticks that you can assemble to make shapes. Sounds simple, but you won't be able to put them down.

7. A *real* chemistry set (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BPL4Z4/ref=asc_df_B000BPL4Z4925692?smid=A7354NA522A&tag=yahoommp-toys-mp01-20&linkCode=asn&creative=380341&creativeASIN=B000BPL4Z4) This will only be fun if your kid is really inspired -- or if you are.

8. Trains My little ones liked the brio trains (http://www.amazon.com/Ocean-Train-Set-Table-60pc/dp/B001CGAV9G/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1254607842&sr=1-8). I wish there were inexpensive knockoffs (http://www.amazon.com/KidKraft-Ride-Around-Train-Table/dp/B0019NJCQA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1254608085&sr=1-3) when I was buying these. I had HO scale trains (http://www.amazon.com/s/qid=1254608364/ref=sr_pg_1?ie=UTF8&rs=165793011&keywords=ho%20trains&bbn=165793011&rh=n%3A165793011%2Cn%3A%21165795011%2Ck%3Aho%20trains&page=1). I'd get Lionel (http://www.amazon.com/Lionel-North-Central-Christmas-Train/dp/B000SSMZSY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1254608627&sr=1-2) if I were starting a set for a kid now. This is a gift that you can add to year after year. The train that circled the tree this year may be on a 4x6 piece of plywood by next Christmas and taking over your basement in a few years.

For younger kids...

9. Cozy Coupe (http://www.amazon.com/Little-Tikes-Cozy-Coupe-Anniversary/dp/B001NQHN7S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1254605502&sr=1-1) Any of the little tikes (or similar) ride on/in toys.

10. Busy toys Not sure how to describe these, but my kids had these free standing activity toys -- pizza parlor, store/cash register, etc. that were favorites for many years. If you are courageous, a water/sand box (http://www.amazon.com/Step-WaterWheel-Activity-Play-Table/dp/B000641DPQ/ref=pd_rhf_shvl_3) can't be beat on a warm day. You can get a tent/playhouse for indoors. Get a rechargable LED lantern that cranks.

That is a great list Len!

I have to say the cozy coupe was probably my childrens most used outdoor toy (next to the swingset).

Also agree that cash registers are great--and my kids liked a table that had both sand and water play.

I am not into Twilight but alot of kids are and I think Scene It games are always fun (we own three) so that list seems more interesting to me then the list I posted from Family Fun mag.

I would highly recommend NOT getting this game.....my DS5 beat it in 1hr almost completely by himself. I did have to read what needed done as you need to shoot certain things in certain orders for some objectives but that is it....just very fast paced shooting....you don't even get to enjoy the cute pictures/graphics because the time you have is so short! Read some reviews HERE (http://www.amazon.com/Toy-Story-Mania-Nintendo-Wii/product-reviews/B0026IUSXI/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1)!

And those printies....I am having flashbacks, I KNOW I had something like this I looped the yarn through, stuffed with cotton and finished the whip stitch, lol. They were in some book....I had a similar one of monsters you popped out on dotted lines and put together with those brads.....maybe I should hurry and redo that idea??? lmao

If you have DirecTV, the only way to go is with DirecTV's equipment. Their DVR's are quite good, but you will have to probably pay a "lease" fee, plus a fee for the service, plus extended your contract.

I would buy now and then if I found the cheaper I would return the more expensive ones. Plus some stores let you price match within a certain time period.

I hate those lists. I don't know who compiles the lists or tests the toys, but I never find anything fun in the top ten. So, here's my top ten fun toys that you can buy now...

Thank you SO much!!! Great list. I just bought the snap circuits for my 6 yr old twins. My husband was so excited when I showed him, I'm afraid he's going to want to play with it before we give it to the kids for Christmas!

Oh and I dont think this toy will be huge, but its so cute! It's leap frog my pal violet. You can upload the child's name (they have a green pup as well) songs, and some other things. I will be getting this for my daughter.

I got the laugh and learn puppy but am debating taking it back to get violet for my LO...

Zhu Zhu pets are definately hard to find right now. I have called every store in my area that sells them, and have been told they are so in demand right now they don't know when they will receive them. Toys R Us in Johnson City, TN is limiting everyone to only 1 no matter how many they get.

If you have DirecTV, the only way to go is with DirecTV's equipment. Their DVR's are quite good, but you will have to probably pay a "lease" fee, plus a fee for the service, plus extended your contract.

More info: http://www.dbstalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=112

or http://tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=7

Thanks for the reply. I have been told by a local electronics store that you can purchase a HDD DVD recorder (with hard drive) to do the same thing. It even pauses live tv. Not sure if it is true. Doing a little extra research before I commit myself to extending my contract and of course all those extra fees on my bill.

I'm planning to get the farm for my baby boy that will be 7 months at Christmas. I've never seen the Mickey Mouse toy, but I just looked at TRU and it seems to get good reviews.

We have the house...my boys are too old for it now, but my baby girl is only 4 months, so she will get to use it soon...got TONS of use! We even bought one for my nephew because our son liked it so much! Also have the Leap Frog table...that's a must, IMO! My oldest LOVED that thing to death! Great for them when they're starting to pull themselves up, too...

For those of you looking for Zhu Zhu pets, check with Toys R Us. They (at least the one here) get their items put out of Wednesday and Friday. I have been able to get 4 Zhu Zhu pets. One in each color they carry.
Also, Target has started carrying them, too. They are definitely a hot item this year.

I contacted Zhu Zhu people and they say items will start hitting the self the end of this month and begining of Nov. I call my walmarts in my area and toyru daily. There is a hallmark in AZ that charges 12.99 then ship for cost. They have them. But I think I am waiting for the 8.00 walmart.... Also the company told me there are affilated with the people selling them on amazon for inflated prices and not to pay it cause they will be out.

We have the Laugh and Learn House, bought it for my DS3 for his first birthday and he LOVED it! MY DD 9 months is now putting it to very good use and has been for the last couple of months. It is wonderful! The batteries last forever in it too. Highly reccomend it! We bought the Leap Frog table for my DS and he enjoyed it, but my daughter doesn't show much interest in it. Fisher Price has a really cute table that has more for the kids to do also, maybe check that out. If we didn't already have the other table I would def. be buying the Fisher Price one.

Anyone know where The Beatles: Rock Band: Limited Edition Premium Bundle for Nintendo Wii can be bought at a discount? There's a plain one too, but from what I've gathered, the instruments that come with the premium bundle are much better. I'm a tech dinosaur - this is for my kids - can anyone give me advice about it? Thanks.

I'm predicting that the hot toy trend is going to be Zhu Zhu pets and their accessories! They WERE $8.00 at Walmart and Target but they are out of stock everywhere and are showing up on eToys and Amazon for $20.00 a piece!

And of course, my little girl wants the WHOLE set!! ;)

ITA. Zhu Zhu's are extremely hard to find and when stores have been getting in their handful of hampsters they go almost as quickly as when they hit the shelf (if they even make it that far between associate & the shelf before somone swoops in like an eagle to snatch them up). The accessories are seeminly easy to find- NOW- after Black Friday probably not so much as the Zhu Zhu craze gets into full swing. Even at $20 a pop on ebay it's still a relatively cheap toy that a parent will purchase. The supply/demand on them is warm right now and I almost bet that on Black Friday & there on out until the holidays the prices will only get hotter. When you're out and about keep an eye out for those hampsters ya'll! ;)

Does anyone know or can predict the must have toys (or non toy item) this holiday season? Usually there is the one or two must have items. Also what about non toy items? Will there be a new item put out by a company this fall?

I predict the Matchbox Rocky the Robot Truck will be a HTF item before the fatman comes. I bought mine early & it is sooooo cool, well worth every penny we spent on it! It is AWESOME!! I think it will be a huge hit! *That's my opinion & everyone's entitled to it!*

For those looking for Zhu Zhu pets, check your local Kroger. I found a whole stack of them at my Kroger Marketplace. My kids don't want them, so I picked up 3 for a friend. They didn't have the accessories, but they did have plenty of hamsters.

I agree!! My son is already asking for it, he saw an article in the Nint. Mag he gets. It looks awesome, brings back memories of Mario Brothers 3, I loved that game. My hubby wants to get it for my son just so he can play it too!

Looks like those Zhu Zhu pets are the most popular gift so far. If your not there when the store opens they are gone within minutes. DS is asking for Bakugan Maxus Helios ToysRUs exclusive. I found it after a couple of weeks of looking.

The closest TRU to me is about 40 minutes away. I called yesterday and they said they had Maxus Helios 7-in-1 in stock and would hold it for me until end of business. I drove all the way up there only to find out they held the wrong one! The put back a Dragonoid for me (which I can get at Wal-Mart for $34 thank you very much!). I was totally frustrated. I have two bakuchildren :-) and I wanted to get Helios for one and Dragonoid for the other. I guess I will just get Dragonoid for both and mark the pieces somehow. Oh well.

Wow. I would have been sooo mad. They may get them back in. I looked non stop for 2 weeks. Called TRU after every shipment. They expected to get them in the day the new Bakugan game for DS came out. I called that morning. They had gotten 200 in and told me they had alot of them. I live about an hour away and went on down. I got there, they had 4 left. Whew.

Toys R Us is getting the majority of the shipments. If you have a local one try calling them and find out when the trucks run. You may have to be there when the doors open to get one though.

Along with the other toys and video games mentioned. DJ Hero will also be a hot item. It is from the same people who created Guitar Hero. My DS 7 wants the eyeclops mini projector, this is all he keeps talking about. They also have a commercial which is where he first saw it. Also the PIXO's toys are suppose to be hot for Christmas too. I am definately buying the DJ hero and the projector.

Pixos were hot last year. They're back? In that category my kids are asking for Paperoni. I am still undecided on that one. And that darn projector is like $100. Ouch! After all I spent on Bakugan and zhu zhus I don't think that one will fit in the budget (it is really cool though). The good thing about the company making the projector is that their toys seem to last. We have the eyeclops thing from two years ago and the night vision goggles from last year. They still work really well, and the kids still play with them.
