Man that isn't fun! Do you work retail? At my last job, I told them on my interview the only day I wanted off was BF. Hey, they asked if I had any vacation plans! LOL And for the 4 years I was there, I got BF off while everyone else worked!

Black Friday is a company holiday for me, so I should be off, this year we also have Christmas Eve.... It makes more sense because people are less likely to call in sick (and we're not a hospital, fire or police department where people are needed to work on those holidays...).

As of now, I'm scheduled to work Black Friday. There is still a strong possibility that I can get that day off though. So, there's still hope. *fingers crossed*

I work in primary care pediatrics and there are 9 other pedis we cover for so we all take turns. The offices are open 365 days a year for somebody to cover from 8a-8p...it really sucks :( I may try to go before work if there are any deals too good to pass up.

I said earlier Christmas will be small this year as we are leaving for a cruise on 1/3/10 and will be sure to spend lots of $$$ then

I don't shop on BF but our offices are closed. I have worked that day in the past.

If Christmas Eve is a work day we close at 3pm.

I always turn in my vacation schedule in Jan for the following year to make sure I have 1/2 day Vday & Halloween for the kids parties. Then always schedule 12/26. I do shop the day after Christmas.

I do not plan on working on BF this year.
Last year I had to work on BF. The first time in over 10 years that I could not shop all day. I only had time to shop 1 store before going into work.

I don't know if I will be scheduled for work yet. I do still have time to request off. But really I work evenings/night anyway so even if they do schedule me I can still go out in the morning if I wanted to.

Unless something drastic happens, we'll be off the entire holiday season. My wife has taken up travel nursing, so if ya don't wanna work the holidays...don't take a contract then! It'll be the first Christmas in a while that we don't have to worry about how work will screw up our plans again (they always liked to pull the "everyone has to work a half shift on Christmas" routine, vs rotating).

I got those days off too (though the week in Dec. was taken as "mandatory vacation/office closure" so we got 6 days Vac. the rest of the year instead of 10 :( ) but we just got bought out by a bigger company and no longer get those days off unless we use Vac. time :(

I work for the school system so I've always had BF off....who needs summer break when you have BF? My problem has always been the DH who has to watch the kids while I shop...he prefers it that way. He's in a job now that works M-TH and has Friday's off...thanks goodness. For once I won't have to ask him to take off that day to babysit. Yea me!

I work in an operating room in a pretty busy county-like hospital and we always run a skeleton crew on Thanksgiving and BF. I have signed up to work on Thanksgiving a few times just so I could make sure to have BF off lol.
Last year I was on call on BF and thankfully didn't get called in, and this year I am totally off, no skeleton crew or call for me...YAY! Come on BF!!!!!

Very Good!

I work county government, so we have 13 holidays (and our union traded having Flag Day off for Black Friday)! We have 4 holidays in November - Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Black Friday. This is why I like November so much at work!

I got shafted this year because I was sick when the Holiday Schedule went out and had to take what was left. 4-12 Thanksgiving, 4-12 X-mas Eve and 8-4 on NYE. (yuk!!) I could have bumped some people because I do have seniority here, but I didn't want to walk back after a three-month absence, and start acting like a jackass because of the Holiday Schedule.

So I'll do 4-12 Thanksgiving, go sleep for about four hours and then get in line at TRU around 4:30.

Our company only gives 5 off days all year. So of course I will be working BF, Christmas Eve, and New Years Eve again this year. I always shop before coming to work on BF and take my hour lunch from 8-9 so I have til 9 to be here. Then its wrapping those just bought gifts the rest of the day!!!

DH just told me he has BF off as well as Turkey Day but I reminded him that last year he told me that too and he ended up having to work!

I'm thankful for those who do work on BF whether by choice or no, be it retail, medical or otherwise. I know the feeling because I've worked several myself :)

I don't have to work Black Friday this year but I did have to work last year. I got my deals online some as early as 2 am on Thanksgiving morning. They were delivered in plenty of time for Christmas. I also had my mother do some shopping for me.

This year I am seriously thinking of doing the sleeping thing or just going to crowd watch. Money is tight with my husband having lost his job this past year for the second consecutive year. There are more important things that we need and the kids need. If not I have a feeling I will be looking only for specific things. I may get something for the schools to give for the post-prom parties. (2 daughters- 2 differant schools and this year since 1 is a junior and 1 is a senior we get 2 post prom parties that we have to help out with.) Thinking about those cheap microwaves that seem to come out every year around Christmas. Just not sure though- will depend how money holds out.

I have been with the same company for the last 7 years, and BF is a contractual holiday so I have always had it off. This year we have a large order that needs to be filled by the end of the year and they are saying we might be working BF. Since it is a holiday in the contract that means they will be paying everyone holiday pay plus double time that day. I don't care. I save more than enough to make up for that. I told my boss last week that it doesn't matter if the company is open and working on BF - I will NOT be there. I will take vacation if necessary. We can only have one person per department out on vacation at a time but I happen to know that I am the only one in my department who has vacation time left! Ha!

Seriously though, even if I wasn't going BF shopping I would still have to take the day off. My MIL always does Thanksgiving dinner Friday afternoon (so no one has to run around to multiple Thanksgiving dinners on the same day). That is one thing she does that I really appreciate. And she doesn't expect me to do a lot of prep for the meal - as long as I do her BF shopping. DEAL!

I'm a county employee so we get the same holidays as the state. Every year for the past 45 years the governer has signed an order making BF a state holiday. It hasn't been signed yet this year so I'm starting to wonder if I'm going to have to work. And there's no way I can take it off as I know my boss will and only one of us in the dept can be gone at a time. I'll have to see if I can come in late so I can go shopping before.

I work Monday thru Friday midnights. So, I might miss some of the early door busters at some places, I'm still gonna go and hit some deals after work. That's the nice part about overnights, I might have to adjust my sleep schedule a bit, but I find that I'm able to do more things.

All of the police dispatchers that I know have to work on holidays if they fall on their regular days to work. You have a very good deal going on if you get all holidays off, as the officers surely don't.

We have a calendar in the break room where we all write down our names on whatever days we need off and 99% of the time we get it off. I always ask off for BF. I work at Hallmark, in a strip mall in a small town, and we don't have any specials for BF. Its never a problem for me to be off that day, thank goodness. The days I can't ask off are Christmas eve, day after Christmas, and the weekend before Christmas. I don't even mind working Christmas eve because we are only open 8 hrs, so we have 2 4 hr. shifts going and I usually get the early shift, so I'm done by 1:00 pm anyway.

Yea I know my hunny is a Police Officer and he's usually working on holidays. This year he's working Thanksgiving, but off on Christmas Eve and Day, so our boys will be thrilled to spend it with their daddy. Although I'm a Police dispatcher, I'm employed by the city and all full time city employees (with the exception of officers )get all paid holidays off. This year we are short though, and if they do ask me to work, I'm calling in sick!! lol Can't miss my BF shopping!!;)

I too have to work on BF and I am literally the only one in the building, my office is located on the 3rd floor. I stay up all night, do as much shopping as I can before 9am and then I am off to work. I have my daughter drive me cause I am scared I will fall asleep while driving.

Ughhh what a Mom will do to save money for Christmas! I will work 8 hours in an office where no one will call or come by and then have my daughter pick me back up so I can sleep all the way home!:g_zzz:
